I purchased 4 new tires and when my car was done I checked the new tires before I left. I noticed they broke 1 of the wheel covers. Mechanic didn't even have decency to tell me about it. They just hope you will not notice and leave. I went inside to tell them and they told me the part is like 10$ in Toyota and they will reimburse me. Went to get my car aligned today, an the alignment rack was occupied, which isn't a big deal other then that it was an employee doing work ON HIS OWN CAR, not even in uniform! This looks so unprofessional when a customer is trying to pay for a service, yet employees are doing it on their own vehicles for free. Sears was bad so I went to Pep Boys across the street. They gave me better tires, free install, better warranty, and all for $200 less. Plus, they checked my brakes free of charge because I wanted to know how long until the pads needed replacing. They also agreed to mount my tire on a rim for a spare when I bring it in next time, free of charge. Pep Boys was good overall. read more

I just went to Pep Boys at Smithridge for my 8:00 am appointment, which was made a week ago. The shop opens at 7:30 so there was someone to receive me, but guess what, their technicians don't show up until 9:00 am! So why did I have an 8 o'clock appointment??? Receptionist did not say "sorry" or anything!!! Not only was I going to switch from my dealer and have all my future service performed here, now I will never set foot in the store to even buy wiper blades. I mostly go to Pep Boys for auto parts, I have no idea about their auto service because I do my own work except tires, and they are too far from Carson City to work on my Tires. I like Pep Boys because of the size of their retail store (wide selection of items and lots of space to walk around). Pep Boys is also just about the only place I know where you can get Purolator Pure One oil filters off the shelf. These seem to be the best value for the money of any oil filter out there. They have great store hours, too. I usually pop into this store even if I don't need anything big, just to perform scouting missions and make sure I am updated on everything they have. read more

Wish i could put 0 stars...So I went to change my oil and the drain plug was extremely overtightened, spent about half an hour trying to get it loose. My wife said she had the oil changed here so I had her bring the car back to get the bolt loosened. They had horrible customer service and would not squeeze her in to loosen the bolt after 45 minutes..something that would take less than five minutes. Horrible service, I will never let my wife bring the car here again. There is absolutely no reason to over torque an oil drain plug like that...I've had difficulty getting plugs loose after going to other shops but not like this. I have a suspicion that some of the mechanics here are extremely negligent workers and I wouldn't let them touch your cars either. read more

After spending almost 1.5 hours getting an oil change they forgot to reset my oil gauge. I fidnt figure it out until i got home. I called and they said it was because they are short staffed and trying to rush. Doesnt give me confidence with the job. They took over an hour and there were only 3 cars in the bays. I made an appointment yesterday to have my oil changed and tires rotated. I was barely greeted by the gal at the front desk, she just asked for my keys, to sign this paper and told me "that's all I need from you". While I was sitting in the waiting room a very nice mechanic came in and asked me if I was being helped, and educated me about tire rotations, which was very helpful. I waited awhile ( which happens with car service). The front desk gal came out and told me my car was ready. I paid, and asked if my tires were rotated, she said "no the front ones are too low". I was really frustrated and walked to my car, then got out and went into the garage and asked the mechanic what's going on- he was again really informative and said he probably would have rotated my tires if he been working on it. I'm very frustrated & upset for a few reasons, the customer service. And the fact that the mechanic that worked on my car didn't tell me ANYthing about what he did to it, what's going on, why he didn't rotate my tires or explain ANYthing about my visit today. As a customer who owns a car and wants to learn more and take care of it, I am trusting the service company to let me know what's going on and inform me. read more

I was about to walk out when I realized they charged me $20 as a restocking fee. Wow seriously? You would think for spending 800.00 on tires the person helping you would have a good attitude and not act like a jerk. He didn't offer to order tires I had to ask him if they could order them. Perhaps the single worst experience i've ever had with auto repair and service? The kindest thing I could say about Tony and his crew at the store is that they are inept. There are significant challenges with scheduling, communication, honoring commitments, and the quality of care that they provide their customers. We took my daughter's car in for a misfire problem which was fixed with an overpriced coil pack (at least 3 times what others charge). They called my daughter and told her they were also going to do a tune up which we never requested. Her engine light came back on with a missfire code. She took her car back to Pep boys and was told that the remaining coil packs were bad and needed to be replaced along with a laundry list of sensors. The coil packs were obviously damaged during the unrequested tune up and the employee not only refused to take responsibility for the damage but then tried to scam my daughter into even more services. read more

Just got my alternator replaced by an independent mechanic and turns out my intake tube at the MAF sensor was either loose or not fully connected causing my check engine light to pop my enigine too lean codes. Took my vehicle to Pep Boys at Smithridge in Reno, NV and they managed to isolate the problem based on what I told them might have happened. The didn't charge me the full diagnostic fee under those circumstances and only charged me a reduced fee of $50 since the solution was pretty simplified and they gave my vehicle a once over with a multi-point inspection before releasing it back to me. By isolating the problem no major vacuum test for leaking hoses was required. The intake hose was something that was not noticeable but did explain a lot especially after just having new alternator installed. Nothing else was pushed on me that day and I wonder had I gone to an independent in town or another garage if I would've been charged more. I felt the lower diagnositic fee and another once over was well worth it because I didn't want to be driving with any major issues. I feel the staff at Pep Boys was quite professional in this instance and I'd recommend them again in the future. read more

They wanted over $1125 to replace an ignition switch. I had the switch replaced for $245 at another local shop. Pep boys wanted to sell me an entire steering wheel column to replace a single ignition switch rod. This was after 4 days and multiple calls requesting a quote. They failed to return my calls. Originally they wanted me to just drop the car off before giving me an estimate. I am glad I didn't, and that I went to another shop for a second opinion. I also want to point out that at no point did Pep boys make any offer to resolve this situation. read more

I could not be happier with the service I received from there today. I needed front and rear brakes and rotors, plus all new tires. Not only did they make sure that we had full communication during the service but they also let me know what was wearing down and might need replacing. The customer service was amazing. Poor service, wanted to charge me $82 dollars for an oil change, and wouldn't accept a coupon I just recieved in the mail. Wal-mart and the dealership wanted $40 for the same oil change. My car does require synthetic oil (which really does not make sense). Walk-mart even said they would do the cheap oil change if I wanted which cost $20. I've never experienced worse customer service and have never taken my car from one shop to another until now. First of all, Sarah at the service desk was extremely rude and instantly made me feel uncomfortable and very unwelcome. Steven was clearly in training, and was asking questions seeking guidance from Sarah, who was NO help at all. She seemed as though she could care less about the job, her service, or training a new employee on the procedures of the job. Neither one of them actually listened to me when I tried to explain what car troubles I was having, and just acted as though I was wasting their time trying to explain what was going on. They did not ask any additional questions, or try to have a simple conversation with me to try to get more detail about what could possibly be wrong with it. I would have been better off talking to a brick wall. Sarah did mumble to Steven that it's probably coolant, even though I had already explained that was not the case. After they took some time to look at the car, they called me with their diagnostic. After that, the quoted me THREE different prices for the same thing, and could not answer any of the questions I was asking. I ended up taking my car somewhere else because I did not trust their judgement and felt as though I was not going to get quality service, especially after how I was treated when I first walked in. I do NOT recommend this place and would advise against anyone going there in the futur read more

Not happy with these guys... I took my Jeep in to have an electrical assessment, because my blinkers/hazards were out. It's a common problem in Jeeps like mine. I looked on YouTube to see how others had fixed the problem, and it was a simple fix. The problem resides in the flasher relay, and can be fixed by doing a quick solder job or simply replacing the relay. In any case, I was needing to get out of town the next day and decided I might as well have professionals do it for me while I was at work and just pay for labor. So I took it in for an assessment before work. Pep Boys called me towards the end of the work day and said I would need a new relay as well as a multifunction switch (the actual lever that controls the blinkers, headlamps, etc). Suspicious. They told me it would cost me $670 to fix the problem. ABSURD. I told them I would give them a call back. When I looked online, the average price for a relay was around $30 and the switch was around $70. Needless to say, I opted out of paying Pep Boys $570 for labor. While I was I was on the phone with them, I asked if the multifunction switch replacement was absolutely needed for the blinkers/hazards to work. After a slight hesitation, they told me yes. When my buddy and I opened up the panels to look at the relay, the relay was nowhere to be found. They must have scrapped it! This left me with no chance of soldering it if a broken connection was the problem. We ended up paying just $50 at Napa for a new relay and it fixed the problem completely. A new multifunction switch was not needed. Altogether, in taking off panels, replacing the relay, and replacing the panels it probably took all of 20 minutes. So unless you want to labor pay rates somewhere in the ball park of $1710/hour ($570/a third of an hour) for a similar problem, take your business somewhere else or do the job yourself. Personally, I'll never step foot in this Pep Boys again. read more

If I could give 1/4 star I would. We brought our Cadillac Escalade on Monday, today is Friday afternoon and we still have no diagnoses or repair done for a slow coolant leak. We have contacted Andy the acting store manager for the automotive repair department each day for five consecutive days and he has given no apologies continues to say some sort of excuse. After getting fed up with this situation, I decided to contact the regional manager, which Andy said he didn't have. When I called Andy back to tell him of my calls, if said that it wasn't repaired because it was dropped off. I explained we had an appointment and his answer was yes, but you dropped it off. Not certain how others get their cars there, but apparently making an appointment, arriving at scheduled time puts you at the end of the line continually. I even asked if other cars that came in after had been diagnosed and fixed and he said yes. The store manager over retail told me this has been a huge problem for some time. So my message to you, don't bring your car here. Went to Pep Boys at Smithridge yesterday looking for a bolt/nut for the part that holds the car battery down. When we walked in the place was empty except for the employees standing around doing nothing except one employee was cleaning the popcorn machine. We asked her where we could find a bolt/nut for this part. She said all the way back by the wall. We walked there and there must have been thousands of bolts/nuts there but we couldn't find what we wanted. We then asked another employee passing by that aisle. He said it should be in Aisle 12A. We looked there and again couldn't find it amongst thousands of bolts/nuts. We gave up and walked out. We then went to O'Reilly Auto Parts and the employee there took the time out and helped us find the part we were looking for and even opened up the package to see if it fit onto the car battery holder. We were out of there in a few minutes. We will never go back to Pep Boys. read more

I bought a used car and wanted to have new tires installed. went to pep boys. they installed the tires at about a cost of 350+ for 60,000 mile tires. Six months later I thought I would have my oil changed and get a tire rotation at the same time I don't drive alot). I took my car to a place closer to where I lived. While waiting for the work to be done the mechanic comes out and tells me that one of my lug nuts is stripped as well as the bolt that holds it. They told me who ever put the lug nut on last stripped it and the bolt. I thought.. the only place to last work on this car was PEP BOYS! So, I drove the car to pep boys and informed them of the problem. They said that it was not covered under their warranty. I was pissed! the other place said they would replace it for about $100. I passed on the replacement and now drive around with one lug nut missing. Pep boys sucks in my eyes due to this crappy job. I will never go back their again!!! and suggest you all stay away from them too! also, they had a 4th tire free rebate which I sent in and never got my rebate another $57 ripped off from me.
