What a FIND!!!! What started as a simple little search for breakfast one morning turned into a "life-altering" experience. Oh my goodness.... the flavors that this place turns out in what is simple hometown goodness for breakfast is amazing. Steak and eggs is what I ordered and Lord God almighty... they actually gave a STEAK on my plate. Not some poor grade little medallion of meat. No no no... a full-sized caveman slice of beef that was cooked to perfection. Now hold on to your hairpieces, ladies and gentlemen. THEY ACTUALLY SEASONED THE MEAT!!!!! BEAUTIFULLY!!!! So so good. The staff was beyond helpful and courteous and I just cannot wait till I get the chance to go back to this wonderful establishment. read more

Great homestyle cooking with excellent customer service! We ordered the strawberry waffle special, the kids silver dollar pancake plate, and the steak and eggs. All the steak was cooked to perfection. We were taken care of like we were family. Definitely a place you'll want to visit. read more

The food was about 7 out of 10. Our waitress and services were very good but they upset me because the meal I ordered was supposed to come with biscuits and gravy. Which is made well and taste great but because the COOK (not management) said it don't come with that. They charged me. I'm not cool with fuckery. I will never come back and advise others not to. My daughter had 2 soccer games and I was looking for protein intake for her. From where we are I found Applebee's and Pepper Steak. Major chain restaurant vs Mom/Pop shop. I'm familiar with Applebee's, but I wanted to try something better. I checked out Pepper Steak online, but Google+ and Yelp. It was promising, so I decided to check it out. From outside, it looks like the shop needs some renovation, but I kinda liked it that way. Staff greets us and seeing that I was on crutches, Brenda(?) found a seat close to the front door. "Thanks!". We go straight to steak menu. We're not sure the difference between New York steak, Rib-eye and others.. Brenda explained pleasantly. "By the way, we have roast beef just out of oven!". Oh well, thanks for making decision easy. "Roast Beef for my daughter please!". I went ahead and order not healthy, Chicken Fried Steak. Roast Beef was excellent. It was exactly how I thought it was going to be. We finished off with home made Cheesecake. Tip: Try Zucchini appetizer, you won't regret. read more

As everyone knows, cheap bastards like me hate to pay for expensive meals at restaurants in a casino. It doesn't much matter which restaurant inside the casino you go to - you'll pretty much end up paying the same amount. So I cruised down Victoria which leads to the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino. I saw a large, brightly lit sign in the evening that screamed Pepper Steak. Hell, give me large and give me bright and I'm pretty much like a moth to a candle. It was pretty quiet since I'd come in around 9pm and the waitress noticed I was a little unsure. She simply explained that they were a little busier just a bit earlier and that the crowd had moved on. Whether that was true or not didn't really matter to me because she was the kind of waitress that really seemed to like her job. She took extra care to let me know what the specials were, always said "you're welcome" after my "thank yous" and had just the right amount of eye contact to make me wonder if she was a little hussy when she was younger. After looking through the menu and not finding the classic combo that usually resembles the name of the restaurant, she explained that the owners were of Greek decent so they had a lot of their culture kind of mixed into their meals. Since one of the specials was a gyro and since cheap bastards like me love specials, I went with it. It came pretty quickly with a choice of a side (I chose onion rings). The rings were pretty standard for a diner, most like frozen and fried. I wasn't impressed, but the thinly sliced, highly seasoned steak that was stuffed inside the pan-fried pita, along with the usual chopped onions and tomatoes with tzatziki sauce on the side made for such delicious eating. However, cheap bastards expect to pay much less than $7 for a meal like this, regardless of how delicious it is. With tax and tip, the meal came close to $10 and for a single cheap bastard, that's just astronomical. Considering I could have spent something similar inside the poker room, I would return only to flirt with the waitresses. read more

It's good diner food, but it didn't blow my hair back the first 2 times I dined in. The inside decor is very homey. The waitresses are good. My most recent visit, the dining area could have used a good sweeping. Not a visible mess, but I could feel dirt & sand under my feet as I walked to the table. They have an indor/outdoor patio where they allow smokers. The cigarette smoke lingered into the dinning area, which I wasn't thrilled about. I haven't given up pepper steak yet. I love that they have the classic bendy straws for your soda pop. Also, the all u can eat fish & chips on Friday for 9.99! I think It's great that they have a drive-thru, it has come in handy recently. read more

The Pepper Steak Restaurant has existed in Highland since I was in Middle School back in the 1980's - but oddly enough we only recently started eating here... and it was on a whim! Sometimes, whims pay off. This one certainly did! The place is ran by a greek family; and it shows in little touches here and there in the menu (the Greek Salad Dressing, for instance, is wonderful). We've eaten there 4 times now - and each time the service was great! In fact - one time when I ordered a particular dessert - it turned out later on they were out of it - so the waitress *comped* my wife and I whatever dessert we wanted! That kind of service, hell.. that kind of politeness, doesn't exist much anymore. Their food is a couple steps above diner food, but it's all great quality and the portions are generous. Breakfast is served all day, too! The place is both roomy and cozy at the same time, if that makes any sense. And they have a spacious covered outside patio for smokers or just those who may wish to enjoy the balmy California weather. The prices are reasonable. Certainly more than your average "coffee shop" would be - but nothing outrageous. I think the most expesive dish topped out at $16 dollars or so. Oh, and their Signature dish - Pepper Steak - is pretty darn good, and I'm very picky about my steaks. Overall I'd say a great place to enjoy and come back to; especially if you are in town visiting the Casino. Granted they don't have the massive options the Casino's Buffet may have - but its a pleasant, smoke free establishment and the food, coupled with the great service, really make it stand out! read more

This gets four stars for being good at what it is, a comfort food restaurant who serves a decent meal at a good price. There isn't anything fancy about it. But if you're looking for friendly service and tasty food you won't be disappointed. There is even outdoor seating and a drive up window. Not sure if I would ever use the drive up window though. It's more of the kind of place you want to sit down and enjoy your meal. read more

Street view is tacky, but inside is light, clean, and comfortable. Server efficient and helpful. Food slow, but well done. Fresh salad, hot soup, order correct. I liked it. Nearby San Manuel Casino has some fairly good, but not great eating establishments, so I thought I would give this hole in the wall a fair shake. The service was extremely friendly and you get a 'sweetheart' label from the waitress. The place was a dive, but the value was pretty good. Nothing special in here or to brag home about it. It was just good basic food with friendly service. The flies here also appreciated the service as well. They are big and annoying. Because of that, I probably won't return but it won't be as a result of the service or the food. read more

Alma the morning waitress is amazing!! surprisingly adorable restaurant, it's very diner style and the food is good as you may suspect. My gf. Had French toast and we shared the biscuits and gravy which was quite yummy. I had the breakfast burrito, this could have fed a family of 4 it was so big. After our bad experience at AppleBees, we came here as I needed something to eat fast. We seated pretty quick and had drinks within minutes. Our server was awesome as we never had to ask for a refill, they just showed up. I ordered the Philly Pepper Steak sandwich with fries. When it cam to our table the food was hot and delicious. One of my daughters ordered the fruit salad, and the other ordered the BLT. The fruit salad came with plenty of fruit and cottage cheese, the BLT came stacked with bacon. My wife ordered the bacon cheeseburger with zucchini sticks, no complaints. The restraunt itself had a B rating on the window, and it's a little dated, but clean. Won't be a place I'd ever go back to or recommend to family or friends. To start my husband and I walked in, we were not greeted, instead we stood behind a waitress who had her back to us and was talking to another waitress at the register. They both knew we were just standing there but that didn't stop their conversation. Finally another waitress saw us and took us to a table. It took forever for anyone to ask what we wanted to drink. Seems like the waitresses there cater more to their regulars than they do anyone new. We finally got tended to and the food was not all that great. I had a chicken salad sandwich and the house soup. The bread didn't seem fresh. The soup was okay but the sandwich not so good. It's just one of those places you go to because you've passed it 100 times but never noticed it but it turned out to be a disappointing experience. read more

I have been enjoying the food at Pepper Steak for several years. It's a must stop whenever I'm visiting family in the area. Their pepper steak sandwich is always hot and delicious! I highly recommend it! Also, they have terrific fried zucchini! It come in spears, not your typical rounds, which adds a little unexpected difference to them. I have eaten at Pepper Steak for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and have never been disappointed. Additionally, I'd rather eat at a locally owned restaurant than a chain. Pepper Steak recently remodeled the inside of their restaurant and it looks great!!!! read more

Very disappointed. We have gone here multiple times and have never been ignored like we were this time. We stood waiting to be seated and two servers who also do the seating walked by us multiple times and didn't acknowledged us once. Let me start with the wait staff was great, they were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Sadly besides that, there isnt much else that is great. The place could definitely use better decorations or look less warn-down and dusty, and the toilets were gross. When it comes to the food, the price is average for a cheap family diner, about $12, but the food is undoubtedly bad. I didnt even want to finish my meal, just spaghetti and meatballs, and my friend felt the same. The meatballs were over salty, and the pasta sauce was extremely mediocre. We go here from time to time . . . usually in search of comfort food. Gorgeous loves the Hot Turkey Sandwich. I like the Chicken Fried Steak. They actually serve a heated, canned vegetable with their dinners. I mean, how 50's is that? OK, OK . . . it's not haute cuisine, but it's always hot, flavorful and brings on the memories of diners and road houses in the midwest. The waitresses are friendly and not adverse to a bit of chatter and good-natured kidding if you've a mind to. There's a huge, shaded patio if you like to sit outside.
