When I first moved to Huntington Beach, a friend warned me: Don't go to DTHB on Fri and Sat nights. A lot of people from 909 come to escape the heat, they can't handle their liquor and they start fights. I had to check this out for myself. I found out most of the idiots were from 714 and 949, and surprisingly right from Huntington Beach. I still don't hang out in DTHB much on Fri and Sat night, but at least I know its the locals who actually cause the trouble and blame it on a few of the out of the area peeps. Perq's is usually one of the stops for me and my friends in DTHB. We prefer it here compared to Fred's or some of the other "bro" bars. Although, you can find another type of clientele that rhymes w/ "bro" here too - LOL!!! The bartenders and servers are nice. The ambiance is pretty basic: A bar on the left, tables on the right and a floor in the back for the band. The bathrooms are also clean: 3 Stars for both. Bartender "J" or Jay... Asian lady who thinks is the best looking in the world is rude AF. I come here for Tim the bartender. He is a friend but every time I come he has the worst attitude. I just over heard her say something nasty about me and my friend and said "I'm don't play games". Too bad, Because I am a great tipper. Women like her need to be checked. Killed my happy mood just with one little word of hers. She knows who we are and cards us every single time. I never argue, I am happy to prove I'm of age... I am a woman in my thirties. Perqs is your standard dive bar. It is probably the diviest bar on Main St. During the day you'll find the older regulars sitting at the window watching the passers-by. They often have a live band performing at night, and when they don't you can use the modern jukebox to choose your own tunes. The good is that the drinks are really reasonably priced. I ordered a Titos and soda and it was only $7. They do have TVs and it is almost always really loud inside. Happy Hour runs M-F, 3-6pm, and all day on Wednesdays. Domestic pints are $3, premium pints are $4, and all liquor is $2 off. Not a bad deal! read more

My boyfriend and I met up with a few of his friends the last Saturday of February to celebrate his birthday. They had a live band for the evening, which was nice. I would say it's a bit of an older crowd. I'm pretty sure our group was the youngest there, but that was fine. We got there at about 9ish and it was already pretty packed, so we weren't able to get a table or anything. They were having some sort of going away shindig, which took up a corner of the bar. I don't remember the bartenders name, but they were all pretty friendly and quick with their service, despite the busy night. For being our first time there, it was pretty chill. The guys enjoyed their time, the beer, and the music, so I can definitely say I would make a second visit. read more

So I came in with my pit bull because it used to be one of my favorite places to go On Main Street the guy bar tender was completely f***ing rude and disrespectful. Told me that I had to leave because me dog was off leash ..... though she was in my lap ? When I went Up to the bar to order all the customers were happy to see my pet and wanted to pet her but the male bartender told me I had to leave because she was "off leash " But happy to see small dog owners are perfectly welcomed to have their dog off leash and walk around . So it's clearly a breed discrimination got it . But it's fine to take pictures with the small dogs behind the bar but pit bulls clearly are not welcomed got it . Mind you my dog is a service animal . I did not feel the need to even argue this point because I would not want to continue spending money in a place like this . read more

They have a small food menu of snacks. Not a full menu, but enough to get you by if you were wanting to munch while you drink. This is a really cool little bar! The service is good compared to other bars around the area. The prices are not bad for a 4th of July weekend. We got great seats at the front window to people watch a while. The drinks were great and the funny people walking by made for a good evening. The bar tenders are super rude, when I asked the african American bar tender why it smelled so bad she was really incredibly rude, and called me entitled. This is a 2 part review. 1 part in honor of Gary the previous owner of Perq's and 1 part for the band Liquor Bachs, the reason I went. It has been 20+ years since I had frequented Perq's back in the 80's. I was pretty much a summer regular. I spent my summers in Seal beach with my grandparents who were neighbors and close friends with Gary. Gary often invited me over to Perq's, where I always felt like I was part of his family. He took care of my drinks and always made sure I made it home safely. from then to now the environment has changed much. With the exception that I now buy my own drinks and have to get my own ride home. :) It has a close neighborhood feel and the night I went was very nostalgic for me. the staff is friendly and attentive as always and the customers are fun and engaging. If your in the neighborhood, stop by and have a brew, say hello and enjoy! Part 2: Liquor Bachs a 3 man band, Mike, Dean and Salvatore. Once again they pulled out all the stops, lit up the stage and had everyone dancing. I hadn't seen them since November, but had seen a few other coverbands (not much worth mentioning) and was very happy to hear some great live music! Arrived just in time to catch the 49ers finish off the Packers during the playoffs. My friends know one of the band members of Soul Fresh who was performing that evening and this was another reason why we visited Perq's. We parked in public parking lot which set us back $14.00 for a few hours. You know I despise paying for parking! We arrived before 9:00 pm and secured a table. Drinks were reasonably priced and the band played jazz and Motown hits. The crowd enjoyed the sounds and the dance floor was shaking. We only stayed for a couple of sessions but enjoyed the band and the friendly bartenders and patrons. Perq's has live bands on weekends and was a cool place to hang. We stopped in a couple times over our weekend in Huntington Beach and had a great experience every time. This is a down-to-earth bar we were surprised to find 10 steps off the PCH. The ONLY frustrating thing about Perqs is that their karaoke nights (Thursday's) is honestly...so lame. Reason being is that it's always the same 5 people who have seniority & do like 3 songs each. I'm assuming it's because they're regulars & they tip well but like...I will get there early & put my suggestion in AND throw in a nice tip & I'll still have to sit through the regulars' songs (3 times over) until I MAYBE get a chance to do one song. The general manager of this place is extremely unprofessional and rude. She lets "her friends" cut the line and does not care that people have been waiting 40+ minutes to get in. She yells and gets into customers faces when she's questioned to why she's allowing her friends cut the line. I felt sorry for the security to have to deal with her attitude.
