Extremely disappointed. I've had Persian food from numerous Persian restaurants on the East and West coasts. Unfortunately, this one in Seattle thinks they are fooling everyone with "authentic" Persian food. We ordered through Postmates. The koobideh kabobs we ordered were extremely undercooked- never seen anything like this before. I had to question whether it was even cooked!! The boneless chicken skewers we ordered had the same story- undercooked. Absolutely disgusting and never returning. Flavors were very mild and was a bit lacking. We ordered the hummus, the lamb feast, and the barg (spicy). Hummus was very bland, barely tasted the cumin, garlic and tahini and needed salt. I had heard of this place from Iranians, so wanted to check it out . I ordered the marinated turmeric chicken kabobs, which were some of the best I've ever eaten and I lived in Morocco for two years! The rice was seasoned with fresh dill and came with lima beans and a whole grilled tomato. There are enough differences from Greek or Arabic food, like the thin bread, which comes soon after you sit, with fresh parsley and basil, an onion and butter. It made for a refreshing appetizer preceding your meal. The service was excellent and friendly and I will definitely return...which I rarely do in Seattle because of the choices. read more

Cliffs notes version: mediocre Persian food, well priced, good service. I have to start by saying the owners here are such delightful people and the service is really quite good and friendly. It's a shame though that the food gives Persian grub a bad name. Let's start with the appetizers: - I opted for the tahdig with fessenjoon The tahdig was insulting. It was clear that it had been reheated, and reheating tahdig is a cardinal sin. It was chewy and soft, not crunchy, and extra greasy from the reheat. Tahdig should crunch and be crunchy...this felt like silly putty in my mouth. The fessenjoon was actually tasty. Great balance of sweet and sour and the proper consistency. Tahdig gets a 1/5, fessenjoon gets a 4/5 - The kotlet was awesome. Probably the best thing on the menu I've tried from all my visits here. I should've just gotten like 5 of them and had that as my meal. 5/5 - The complimentary sabzi plate has a nice selection of herbs, a generous helping of onion and a radish. Main course: - The gheimeh bademjoon is just ok. The gheimeh is mild in flavor and doesn't really have the proper flavor profile that the stew is supposed to have. It's clear the eggplants are never cooked in with the stew and are just added on top. They were undercooked and didn't have a chance to absorb any of the tomato base of the stew. Gheimeh gets a 2.5/5 and the eggplant (bademjoon) gets a 2/5. - The rice. Boy oh boy the rice (no this is not going in a good direction...keep reading). A good delicious basmati rice is the staple of all Persian food. How did they get it so wrong?? Persian rice is supposed to have an incredible aroma and be so good that you can eat it by the spoonful. This was just not good. It was dry and smelled old. On a positive note, I didn't binge on rice and then feel guilty about breaking my diet--one spoonful was more than enough. If 0/5 were a legitimate rating, that's what the rice would get - Kubideh. I was pleasantly surprised. It was fresh and juicy, the meat wasn't too fatty to the point that it smelled gross, it tasted really good, and the single skewer serving was a good sized portion. This gets a 4/5. Dessert: - The tea. I'm a (self proclaimed) tea connoisseur and man I gotta say that they nailed this. Really delicious blend of tea served just right. Not too bitter and dark, not too light. Served with sugar cubes and nabat (rock candy). If this place was solely a tea restaurant, I'd be here every day. - Faloodeh. Their presentation of this was awesome. It was covered in just the right amount of sour cherry syrup and had some delicious little Persian limes on the side. The flavors are good and the noodles are a great consistency. A solid 4/5 all day long. Overall I'll reiterate that the owners are so pleasant and very delightful. I can't believe this place opened up just after I graduated! The new and very friendly owners replaced the terribly overpriced and underwhelming Caspian - also a Persian (Iranian) restaurant. This place is absolutely fantastic. I'm Afghan, and Persian food is quite close in many ways. This place compares wonderfully to Kabul restaurant in Wallingford, though a bit less elegant, more relaxed atmosphere, and not as overpriced. Expect large portions, great service, and a sort of slow family feel to the meal. I felt like I was eating at my Iranian family friend's home. We came as a party of five and shared everything. We had spiced black tea to start, along with kashk-e-bademjan (grilled eggplant) and borani yogurt. Both were delicious for dipping the flatbread (think lavash). My only complaint was that the borani, in my opinion, was a bit too garlick-y but to each their own. The kashk-e-bademjan was a highlight of the meal. Delicious and smoky, it's a classic Iranian dish, even for people who think they don't like eggplant. For the main course, we had a lot of carnivores in our group, so we got a koobideh (ground beef), spicy barg (chunks of marinated beef), and chicken breast kabobs, along with zereshk pilau and ghormeh sabzi. All around delicious, but if you're new to Iranian food, the latter two dishes provide the most unique representation of Iranian cuisine. We chose to get the vegetarian option for the zereshk pilau, which was a great choice - more kashk-e-bademjan and (suprise!) AMAZING dolmas. These are the best I've had anywhere - the grape leaves were perfectly tender, and the whole dish very nice and tart. We also picked up a salad shirazi - a great tart salad relish to go with everything. However, you wouldn't want to miss on at least one skewer of the kabobs. They are all fantastic, very tender and flavorful, but my favorite was the koobideh. It's bursting with flavor. They give a LOT of rice with each dish, so keep that in mind - we came home with a box full of it. But it's wonderful basmati rice, so no one is complaining. The total damage - only $85 before tip, for five very stuffed 20-something guys. And a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere to boot. It's not mind-blowing - there is nothing special or innovative on the menu. But I appreciate the simplicity. They have selected the best and most popular Iranian dishes to prepare and they do them all (it seems) with grace and without breaking the bank. I'll be back very, very soon. So will my Iranian buddy who came with us, and felt like he was back at home! And for the picky eaters - remind them that standard Persian food here has nothing "weird" for the Western palate. It's just yummy. Vegetarians should find a lot to love- just skip the kabobs and most of the menu is yours! I'm coming back here very soon with my girlfriend for a date! I ordered take-out for my five family members and was told my order would be ready at 6:30. When my husband arrives at 6:30, he was told it will be much longer. Finally, at 7:30, our food was prepared. Before he leaves, the woman in the kitchen offers an expression of regret and says to him that "There may be more or less food than normal" since they were so busy. We paid over $70!! I have feasted at some delightful Persian restaurants and have become skilled at the fine art of Persian cuisine and have even taught Persian cooking classes. Let me break down the troubles with this hole-in-the-wall eatery........... 1. First off, don't present my take-out in shoddy Styrofoam containers. I think those were banned in Seattle! Upgrade to some aluminum containers or a similar eco-friendly option!!! 2. Basmati rice is supposed to be aromatic, fluffy , have a delicious flavor to it and be gently kissed with a touch of saffron infusion. The rice we got was hard, parboiled, tasteless and saffron-less! 3. Joojeh Kebab(marinated/grilled chicken) should be marinated for many hours in a savory blend of spices, onions, lemon juice etc. The chicken should then be grilled just until "done" while it is still juicy. The Joojeh Kebab we received tasted as if it was submerged in some unsavory spices, placed on the grill and then disremembered for too long. It was unpalatably parched and flavorless. We could not finish it. 4. Kebab needs to be made of the highest quality meat and grilled to juicy perfection. I am going to guess that the meat they use is of much, much lower quality than we are accustomed to as we were unable to finish it. My seven year old loves Kebab and he only ate one bite. 5. Don't cut an onion into careless quarters and place it in your much-loved sytrofoam containers on top of the bread and butter as it imparts a very offensive flavor to them. 6. Your grilled Roma tomatoes need to be charred on the outside and tender on the inside. The ones they provided were only just held to a flame and were not cooked tender at all. Dear Persopolis, you really need to sit down and reconsider if you should be in the restaurant business! You need to figure out how Persian food is believed to be properly prepared and incorporate higher quality ingredients, even if it means raising your prices. You need to hire someone that can articulate in English when answering the phone. When a customer calls to express his unhappiness with your food, don't come up with justifications about how inundated you are or that you are short-staffed. I don't really care! Don't offend me by stating that "You will take care of me next time". Next time will not come much longer, especially when folks start reading these reviews posted by folks like me who feel that your food and service is significantly less than stellar!!!! read more

Can there be a six star option please?! Five stars isn't good enough for this amazing restaurant. There are always fresh cut flowers decorating the entrance, the tables are immaculately set, and it is always extremely clean and well decorated. The ambiance of this place is crazy good. From date night, to a big table of coworkers, this place is perfect for any occasion. This place is authentic as it gets, and by that I do NOT mean that if you are not Persian you are unwelcome. Every table is treated the same, no matter what language you speak. There were people of all cultures sitting and enjoying their meal. Our appetizers were panir and sabze (feta cheese and veggies) with warm lavash (bread), salad shirazi, and mast o mousir (yogurt and shallots). We ate the Joojeh (chicken) Barg (steak) and Koobideh (ground beef) kabob plate. The chicken is so tender it made me look at it twice like "are you really chicken"? The Barg was perfectly cooked and seasoned and the Koobideh had just the right amount of spices! The rice with saffron on top is amazingly buttery. The grilled tomatoes on the rice with the kabob is soooooo good! Don't be scared! Try it! Dessert was bastani (ice cream) creamy, sweet pistachio flavors and perfectly portioned. The flavors of the food are so authentic, the service is patient, kind, and I feel like I am sitting in my family's house. The kind and wonderful people that own the restaurant are constantly walking around making sure you are enjoying the food and just to ask you how things are. NO ONE else in Seattle will give you this experience. Hands down one of my favorite spots. Come here when you need a home away from home or to impress a date! read more

Their Iranian grill are amazing and delicious and then you pay less than same Middel Eastern resturants anywhere else. I went to several Iranian resturants in the West coast and Vancouver but among those, Perspolis's Lamb Shank is the best one I have ever had. Why do all Persian restaurants have to look so horrifically stereotypically down and out and full of gack that most Iranians wouldn't have in their houses? Decor issues aside, this place is just awful. I have given it two tries and I am not ready to go for the third. Last night, the meat seemed off. How? Let's see - I feel awful today. Out of a party of ten, about two people finished their dinners to completion. My joojeh kabab seemed a little soft and not very cooked for being all cooked through - spongy would be a nice way to put it. My mom didn't eat her beef kabab (barg) I think. My TH said hers was okay (cornish game hen). The salad dressing, served on the side was redolent of a Kraft Ranch I had in summer camp in 1979. I ordered maste-khiar to use instead of dressing, but it was also off. Yogurt can stand up to anything, right? I have driven through Iceland with yogurt in my car for days and eaten it later and survived. This concoction tasted oddly fermented. The yoghurt was fine, but perhaps the cucumber was going off. Needless to say, I didn't have any after the first taste and no one else seemed to eat any of it. The rice wasn't so great either and the taddigh was very oily. The bread was okay. That is basically what I ended up eating. I have heard that this place treats different groups of people differently. Recently a family friend ate there and had a bad experience. They went to a table of someone they knew and saw that table's food was superior e.g. better rice, kabab meat and overall presentation. When our friend asked, why the food was different, the server said that the other guests were VIPs. Seriously. Avoid. read more

Please don't eat here! I've been here several times for family events, most recently my cousins 30th birthday. If you are having a big group come to eat, DO NOT let them charge a set amount for all your guests... We had about 17 of us at a big table. They said $20 each for everything. Didn't know this only included entrees and appetizers. Ended up being charge $65 dollars for my girlfriend and I for a shared meal. Eye balling it, it seemed like they had maybe 7 or 8 entrees and about the same amount for appetizers. $20 dollars each quickly turned to $20 plus gratuity, plus tax AND the beer we ordered... All in all they should have received $400 from us and they still charged my cousin an extra $270 on top of that because some how all of us pitching in $25 each or more in my case for a shared meal wasn't enough. To make it better when it was my turn to pay I asked for the total just so I felt better about the outrageous amount I was paying, for what could have been much cheaper if we had ordered our own meal separately. The woman who was speaking to us earlier all the sudden had forgotten how to speak English. We got ripped off. Besides this horrible experience, we have never really enjoyed their food or service. Spend the little extra and go to Caspian in Bellevue, where the original owners moved to for some much tastier persian food. You will not be disappointed. read more

I had to call the police because of the way that the owner was taking with us. The Food was not clean and a small stone was in the rise. We we call the waiter, he literary said "SO what, this is normal". I told him to call the owner and surprisingly the owner was as rude as the waiter. This place is so delicious. I'm half Assyrian and my father is from Iran so I'd like to think I know a thing or two about authentic Iranian food. The price is actually "cheap" in comparison to the former overpriced Caspian Grill and most other Persian restaurants. The food is authentic and flavorful. I love this place. Being half-Persian myself, I give kudos to the restaurant for being so authentic and making me feel like I'm eating a family dinner. Great bang for your buck, and everything is delicious! The Vaziri plate ($13) is my Go To -- one skewer of ground beef and one skewer of juicy chicken with a little zesty lemon. It's served with a heaping portion of rice and a barbequed tomato. (Makin' my mouth water just thinking about it!) For starters, I recommend the Kashk-e-Bademjan ($6), an eggplant 'spread' you eat with the appetizer bread (thin Pita). The Mast-o-Moosir ($4) is a thick garlicky yogurt eaten with appetizers or dinner. The Shirazi Salad ($5) is a lemon juice-based cucumber and tomato salad. I love it. Service here has always been decent, tables are clean, ambiance is average. I eat my fill and always have leftovers, without breaking the bank. I LOVE persian food! I have eaten at persian restaurants all over the world. Mostly Dubai where I lived for four years. Persepolis Grill is truly the best I have been to. I know that's a big statement but its really true. I have been here 4 times and have never had a meal when I didn't say... "Oh this is so good!"(followed by eating way too much). If people don't like their food maybe they're just not a fan of persian food. The staff are composed and friendly. I feel like as a family run staff they really care about how you like your food and that you are comfortable. Very typical of persian culture. Kashk e badenjoon is so flavorful and amazing! It's my favorite thing on the menu. The lamb dish (I forgot the menu name) And the skewers are a solid choice, joonjeh and khoobideh. Get the Fesenjan if you want to try something new it's made with pomegranate molasses. It's awesome! If your debating on going, just go. The food will speak for itself. My tip? Stick with the chicken koobideh. It is by far the best meat on the menu. The reason I docked two stars is that I'm pretty sure that this place does not use real saffron on their rice. When I tasted the rice I was pretty surprised at how flavorless it was. I tasted the yellow rice, expecting that saffron flavor, and found it completely absent. I asked a friend if she tasted any saffron and she also said no. I finally asked my mother if she tasted any saffron and she also said no. My guess is that they used yellow food coloring. What a disappointment. Other than that, the doogh was good and the portions are large. Beef and a chicken kabob with saffron rice, roasted tomato. I love to use the somagg spice on the food. It comes with lavash bread, fresh herbs, fresh onion, butter, and radishes! Yummy! I went to Persepolis Grill for the first time tonight with a huge group of friends, and I loved everything about this place! The owner/employees were SO accommodating despite our last minute reservation for 15 people-- and even more of our friends showed up than expected but they just happily added a table for us. FOOD (everything was delicious): Mast-o-moosir: A savory creamy yogurt with garlic-- it was great to spread on the free house flatbread that they provided along with some fresh herbs (basil + parsley), slices of red radish, and onions. [maybe not the best thing to eat if you're on a first date/care about how your breath smells...but you'd be missing out!]. or you could go with the mast-o-khiar, a yogurt with cucumber and mint that was a little lighter and more refreshing, and equally delicious. Tadig + gheimeh: A crispy rice crust with a bean stew + saffron rice on top -- this reminded us of a persian style nachos-- the rice was perfectly crispy (similar to the way rice gets crispy at the bottom of korean stone pot bibimbaps) and perfect for holding up the savory stew on top, and it was cut into nacho-size pieces that were easy to share (and definitely top it with some of the mast-o-moosir, somewhat like sour cream on nachos!). YUM. BEST PART OF THE MEAL-- the kebabs. Persepolis Soltani: I ordered this combo that came with one koobideh (ground beef) kebab, and one barg (tenderloin) kebab. but after trying my friends chicken kebab, i decided they're all amazing no matter which one you order. The tenderloin seemed to be the most popular, but i thought they all had great flavor & chicken was the juiciest chicken i've ever eaten! I only stopped eating cause the portions were huge, as the meat kebabs come with a giant pile of rice (or half salad/half rice if you want some variety, or all salad if you wanna be healthy/boring). If you wanna try all three types of kebabs, get the king's choice, but be prepared to be stuffed to the max (or end up with leftovers).
