I don't know why this place has such a bad Yelp rep! I'm here to fix it. Lemme lay it on the line for you: 1. Delicious homemade cornbread. When you eat here, you get a coupon to come in and get a free loaf of cornbread to take away the next time you come. That's almost worth 5 stars right there! 2. Huge breakfast menu, huge portions, and huge amount of seating. The menu includes several dishes that incorporate asparagus and looked freakin' good, and "spicy" (but good) chorizo sausage (or chourico, as they call it). They also have crepes and quiche in addition to all the other breakfast likelies. 3. Nice clean but cozy atmosphere, no diner smell (just something I noticed which is nice) and friendly servers. I don't know what else I can say to convince the world that they're not the worst place ever except that I got a Portuguese Breakfast Scramble: "three" (more like 5) scrambled eggs with cubes of their chourico mixed in and some melted cheese on top. I got crispy hash browns as one side which could have been crispier but were still good, and black beans which I promptly mixed all into my scramble with a liberal dose of jalapeño hot sauce. They have like, 3 different hot sauces per table, which, as a spice-dependent person was both convenient and delicious for me. Anyway this place is good. Come here. Eat here. I was greeted by a friendly waitress and the aroma is amazing... upbeat music and delicious flavored coffee to start. Tiffany was my waitress and she was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the French Toast sampler and the portions were more than gracious. The fresh fruit was delightful and the food was hot and fresh. This place USED TO BE good now its awful. They turned the waiting area into a cheesy gift shop, an obvious marketing ploy to get you to spend cash on junk. With all these renovations, they should have redone the bathrooms which are shabby. The food has also gone downhill. The eggs are runny, the potatoes seem like yesterday's. Even the cornbread that used to be decent was just so-so. The coffee is mediocre, was lukewarm. The bacon was good, extra-crispy just the way I like it. Also like another reviewer said, the service at the hostess area was not warm and welcoming as it once was, it seemed more like a hangout for young teens. Our waitress was pleasant but took forever to refill our coffee. It's sad because we used to come here all the time but will not be back. Eh, I don't know. I need to say this: "Largest Breakfast Menu in New England"? How does one know that, I hardly think they surveyed every place. With that being said, I think The Friendly Toast in Cambridge / Portsmouth, NH has a larger menu... but hey, this review is about their food, not about what they claim to be true. I've been to Persey's Place (PP) a few times before, but my last experience wasn't awesome. I'll start with the positives: * I really like the decor and how the restaurant is set up. You can tell there was a lot of thought and reasoning behind the artifacts (can I say that? I feel like "artifacts" describes museums), colors, and layout. * (I went on a Sunday morning) and the restaurant was well staffed (but the extent to which they worked well/hard is debatable) * There was ample parking (but leaving the parking lot can be tricky, especially if you're headed towards Buzzard's Bay) So, as I mentioned, I went here on a Sunday morning (we beat the church crowd, woo!) and I was so excited for a damn good breakfast. The restaurant was a bit busy, but we got seated right away (perfect!) Our waitress came by, took our drink order, and came back quickly (however, that was the last time she was sharp enough / quick enough). I will say, although PP was rather busy, there were so many people working. One would have expected quicker service -- but that wasn't the case. Anyways, 20 - 30 minutes after we ordered, we finally got our food (but the kicker: the waitress dropped mine, gah!) Instead of saying sorry and stuff, she went on to make a joke about how I probably don't want to eat food that fell on the ground (which, being a younger lad, that may have been a decent retraction... except I would've rather heard "I am so sorry about that, the chef is working on yours right now, give him a few more moments"). When She finally brought my food back, she said "Here you go, enjoy" ... Maybe because I've worked in the service industry before, I know how much a sincere sorry goes. We got the check and I would've expected some more "sorry" or whatever. I don't know, I didn't love it. I probably won't be coming back to PP as there are other options out there. read more

Every time I go to persys the service has been awesome, my waitress is always pleasant and attentive to all my family's and my needs(we can definitely be high maintenance). The restaurant has a nice homey feel to it making it so comfortable. When I went last I ordered the Cuban Benedict ohhh my it was soooo goood not to mention I got to choose 2 sides! So I ordered the cornbread and hash browns I was stuffed, but ate almost all of it because it tasted so goood and it was a cheat day lol. I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try my family and I love it and Regularly dine here! read more

Long time customers - not coming back. First the good: nice waitress. One dish was warm. Hash and home fries were amazing. Now the bad: it looks like it has an identity crisis. They have removed many booths and replaced them with ticky-tacky tourist trap crap, which they have seen fit to line the walls and windows with as well. Think confused Cracker Barrel. At least there, the retail is in one place and the dining another. I ordered the Portuguese Scrambler. The chourice was under cooked and bland. My wife ordered the Hash Bomb. Eggs were cold, cornbread cold and soggy and the worst was the 'crispy' hash browns. They were white, cold, with one or two traces of brown. The server realized this and put in another order. These came out with four or five traces of brown. Nasty! We left here sad, ironically with our 10% coupon for merchandise and unless we hear epic changes have been made we won't be back. Simply put: This place has jumped the shark. Walking in yesterday, I was shocked to see that the entire middle of the restaurant has been taken over by a gift shop FULl with Cape Cod paraphernalia, miscellaneous chotchkies, random shot glasses...what does all of this have to do with breakfast?! We stood there for a good 10 minutes before I thought to walk around and take in the renovations, and discovered 3 empty tables. I told one of the waitresses about the open tables, but without an official hostess keeping track, it still took us another 10 minutes to be seated. Normally I'd say the food is worth the wait, and the corn bread has consistently been a good choice, but the rest of our order was just ok. The proportion of reheated hash browns was totally off (3 spoonfuls for BF, 1/2 cup for me), so the corn bread felt like an apology. We'll be looking for a new breakfast place on the Cape in the future. It's just not worth it. read more

First off, if I could give 0 stars I would. Let's start with the beginning of our adventure. If you want to feel like you've aged 50 years prior to being sat, this is the place for you. Don't be fooled, the place will have a line out the door yet the dining room will be empty. Please also don't be fooled when they tell you "it's only a 20 minute wait." We arrived at about 1045am and didn't get sat till probably 1145am. We had a 1 year old with us and had a constant feeling we should run for the hills but we said, "we've waited this long, we must be next!" We literally had a bet if one of the dirty tables we were watching would ever get cleaned for more guests and guess what, it never was cleaned in the time we were waiting. Side note: We watched a staff member mop a 4 × 4 area for about 25 minutes then the waitstaff ended up using paper towels to finish up the job. It kept us entertained. Eventually we got sat and walked through a maze of a restaurant which was mostly empty although there had to be at least 20 more people waiting behind us. We got sat at the back of the restaurant at grimy table that felt like it had been wiped down by the same water that was just used for the 4 × 4 spot mentioned above. We were eventually greeted by a nice young lady and took our drink order. Drinks came pretty quickly and got decent coffee. A few minutes later she returned for our order. Another side note: We kept looking for a manager. The closest person we saw to a manager was a young looking lady probably in her late teens to early 20s. I gotta say, with a lot of experience in the restaurant industry, I have never seen a more laxed manager and mismanaged style in my life. Not much happening. Another side note: The 1 year old is allergic to dairy and butter. We had ordered her eggs and told our waitress. About 10 minutes after we ordered, the waitress came and asked us "how allergic is she?" We asked why... Her response was, "well our pan we use for eggs has butter on it from prior orders" then looked at us for our response to her first question. I almost fell out of my seat at this point. We asked her to wash the pan prior to cooking these eggs. She responded they couldn't because certain pans are only for eggs. Crazy! After about 30 more minutes we get our food. The nice waitress asked if there was anything else that she could get us and we responded "yes, the rest of the food..." Oh, the rest was on its way... When we got the rest, 3 out of 4 meals were fine. My meal however had cold pancakes and eggs plus a side of seared undercooked hash browns. My wife had a side of very yummy corned beef hash though. Another one of us never got their side of bacon which specifically asked for again and eventually gave up. Had to beg to get refills of coffee. Before we were done eating our bill arrived. It came with a coupon for a free loaf of bread at our next visit. We all looked at each other and couldn't help but laugh. We are never coming back... As far as cost goes it was $75 for four adults one child. And yes we still gave 20% as a tip since we all did this line of work. When we left, the dining room was still empty and yet there was still a line of people waiting to get sat... We got out of there in a record time of 2 hours 15 minutes. Some one liners we thought of after we left and were driving: - If you like missing lunch at the same time you are waiting for breakfast, this is the place for you. - If you want to find a dirtier place than your local strip joint, this is the place for you. - If you have almost as much patience than Jesus, this is the place for you. - If you do not know how to tell time, this is the place for you. - If you want to test the limits of a child, this is place for you. - If you don't have a clue how to run a restaurant and are wondering why you're not making any money, you must be the owner.... We went to Percy's because we heard they had biscuits with sausage gravy, which is difficult to find in the Northeast. They indeed have it, but the experience was a real disappointment. Like others have said, it's got a nice homey, cozy log cabin feel, and it was close to capacity on a Saturday morning. I got scrambled eggs w/ biscuits & sausage gravy w/ coffee and OJ and my teen daughter got a broccoli quiche, wife got hash with poached eggs and homefries. On the positive side: - The OJ was excellent, tasted close to fresh squeezed. - The poached eggs were nicely prepared and tasty On the negative side: - The coffee had nasty, burnt taste. - The biscuits were on the dry, chalky side, and there was only a few tablespoons of gravy on the biscuits. But perhaps that was a good thing, as the gravy was a bit thin and had a slightly off taste. - The scrambled eggs were prepared well, but had a strange off taste also. We were guessing perhaps some kind of industrial food release was sprayed on the griddle instead of using a decent quality oil, since the home fries on my wife's plate had the same off flavor as well (she took one bite). - My daughters broccoli quiche was rubbery, and had a sour flavor. We all tried it and agreed with her she should send it back (and we almost never send anything back). She got a belgian waffle instead, and it tasted okay, but clearly a pancake/waffle mix waffle, not a true belgian yeast-risen batter. All it all, we were greatly disappointed, which is unusual for us at a breakfast joint. Really too bad, because they've got a great looking menu and atmosphere. read more

We stopped for breakfast recently. The breakfast menu is extensive, probably more combinations that I've seen anywhere. I had a short-stack of blueberry pancakes that were supposed to be "loaded" with blueberries. They were okay, not loaded by any means. The pancakes themselves had a raw taste and were kind of tough to chew. My spouse had a scrambled eggs and hash browns. I tasted the eggs and found them a bit to hard and rather tepid. The hash browns were the palest hash browns I had ever seen. They, too, were barely warm. When hungry, the eyes can be bigger than the stomach. Persy's portions are generous, and they expect you to eat all of it yourself. They are clear about no sharing and that they don't give doggie bags. Since eating here, I've learned that there are plenty of places to eat in this area. Take a look at the ratings before you choose because somewhere else might have a better breakfast. read more

We were looking for a sit down breakfast place and decided to try Persy's Place. The interior is very simple and we were greeted by very friendly staff. As we were seated we glanced over a very ambitious menu that gave many breakfast options. We were served coffee which was good and then we ordered. I ordered the Egg Benedict omelette and my husband ordered the buffalo chicken omelette. They both were very tasty and sides were very fresh. It was the off-season and the level of food and service was spot on. A very family friendly , affordable establishment that I would recommend. read more

My husband and his PMC team had a great breakfast at Percy's the first weekend in Aug. They opened early for the whole team of 50 or so riders and made their day so much brighter by starting off with a great breakfast! They all raved about the great food and awesome service. An hour or so later I joined some team wives for breakfast at Percy's and we too had great meals and wonderful service. A lot of the older reviews on here pretty harsh, guessing I missed the "bad times". Since I've moved back to the local area I've visited maybe a dozen times or so ... service has been amazing, you'll struggle to get half a cup of coffee down before they're rushing to refill it. The food is good quality, very generous portions, and like others have mentioned, don't miss the grilled cornbread. I typically don't like cornbread but theirs is on another level. Most of the egg orders are endless, meaning you'll never leave hungry here. The only thing I can come up with - if I *really* wanted to nitpick, was the last visit the home fries were a bit hard/burnt, like they got left on one side far too long. Food quality - **** Service - ***** Portions - ***** Price - **** Decor/Seating - *** *edit* All of my visits have been off-season, will have to see if things change once the tourists and day trippers fill the place to the brim. ;) read more

I too, like Abby R., am a bit surprised by the low ratings for Persy's. I'm not completely well-versed to the Cape crowds in the summer, so perhaps the environment here in the summer is different because it's always so packed? I don't know... All I know is that every time I've come here, the place has been pretty solid. I've been here four times. The first time I got the Monte Christo - because every time I see it on any menu anywhere I have to get it because it is such a great sandwich. The second time I came here I had to get the Monte Christo again because it was so good the first time. The next time I came I had a meat loaf special they were having. It was really good. A huge serving of meat loaf. Lots of gravy. The mashed potatoes were nice, and to my surprise, the corn bread was great as it was grilled and had buttery goodness to it. I'm not a big corn bread fan by any means, but being able to sop up the corn bread with the rest of that gravy as well was a treat. I came here last Sunday morning and it was the first time I had breakfast at Persy's. I got...an "egg bomb"? I think that's what it was called...it was a croissant with corn beef hash, scrambled eggs and processed cheese all over it (hence the "bomb" name). The processed cheese was the only thing I didn't like, but mixed in with everything, it wasn't enough to ruin the meal. I would've paid extra for real cheese, though (really, processed cheese oughta be against the law). The dish came with two "sunrise sides" - I chose two pancakes (each one counts as one side), which was just fine. I left that table satisfied and stuffed. The hubby had the "endless eggs" dish, not a bad thing. Edith Massey surely would've had a field day here. The orange juice was freshly squeezed...and very good! But a bit expensive ($4, but hey, it's the Cape...you're going to pay Cape prices). Also, a shout out to Heather. She was our server for that Sunday breakfast and she was great! Friendly, personality plus and very efficient. And those little "IQ Test" game on the tables while you are waiting for the food to come out are fun, too. Although I'm with an earlier reviewer here about the "country kitsch". All that twanging music...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH MY EARS!!!!!! A good stop for us when we're in the area. read more

So, I've never had a bad experience here. I LOVE LOVE LOVE breakfast more than any meal! And this place has so many options I literally have to review the menu the night before to be able to make any sort of decision. Home town feel, although this is a small restaurant chain as they have a few different locations. They give you MONSTER portions of everything! The grilled corn bread is SO FLIPPING GOOD. Not a huge fan of baked beans, but they come with the meal as well. I really love the corned beef hash here, it's home made. HUGE pancakes and I have to say their lunch isn't bad either. I didn't have it personally, my friend had a sandwich that was also huge and the french fries were awesome. I am also addicted to french fries so I know when they are quality haha... I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or a Sunday brunch. read more

Went in today to enjoy breakfast. My friends and I had a great server named Ashlyn. We over heard the manager swearing at her as we went up to the front desk to pay. It is not professional for a manager to start screaming at the poor server. I don't know who would want to go to this establishment with a mean manager. It seems that this establishment does not care to treat their employees with respect. The hash browns were left over from who knows when. had bits of burned to a crisp grill junk mixed in that tasted like straight charcoal.
