Small, friendly cafe with big flavors and platters of food. The staff are warm and kind, and the atmosphere is lovely and comforting. The food is absolutely amazing in terms of taste and quality of the fresh ingredients. Arroz con Masriscos is best compared to a seafood paella for a bargain price. The Fried Seafood Platter is perfect with a light breading fried to a golden crunch, with mussels, shrimp, squid, fish, imitation crab and yucca, accompanied by fresh lime and a nice tartar sauce. The Pollo Saltado has flavors of Chinese and South American cuisine in the chicken, soy, tomatoes and onions over rice and French fries. The side salad is fresh and plentiful with a light vinaigrette dressing. We were too full to try the dessert, as we had to take leftovers home. Peru Cafe Express is a wonderful experience that you must enjoy yourself.

Great service and food. If you're looking for a solid Peruvian spot try this place. They were very attentive, would come back again.

My wife and I loved Peru Cafe Express. The Empanadas were tasty and we loved all of them. Tried a chicken, a beef and a cheese empanada.... they were gone before we knew it. They brought us a small plate with a small salt and pepper shaker and a red and green sauce with tiny spoons. The red had some serious heat, the green was a little milder, both were great. The chicken and rice soup was savory but the rice and chicken were sparse, the broth was stellar. The Tallarin Verde Con Bisteck/ Pesto Fettucine with flat steak was my favorite.....8 stars! I've never tried this particular Peruvian dish before, it's my new favorite! We'll be back for more of these goodies!

Not my favorite Peruvian place in Houston unfortunately. I've tried Peru Gourmet recently and wanted to compare it to another Peruvian restaurant and chose this place since I've heard good things! Hours are a bit odd since they close at 7p. I ordered the fish ceviche while my friend ordered the lomo saltado. I felt like my fish could have been fresher- it was a little chewy. The portion was definitely generous but I do think I prefer Peru Gourmet's in terms of flavor and freshness. I also wish they had baked the sweet potato so it was softer. I tried my friend's lomo saltado- I felt like they didn't put enough beef. The beef itself was a bit tough and chewy, I thought the flavor was decent but not remarkable. He requested fried rice instead of white rice which was an extra $2. Service was great! The staff came up to check on us multiple times. Prices are reasonable.

Yummy!! Today I was starving and I got the chicken cilantro rice soup, Chicken empanada Fried plantain side Yucca huancaina style appetizer. Everything was delicious! I didn't feel heavy or bad after I ate. I wasn't able to eat all the plantain but I'll get to it. No pictures this time. Customer service is the best. Great people working there.

A small and cozy restaurant serving delicious Peruvian food. We had the causa and fish ceviche. The causa was better than the ceviche, the empanadas de ají de gallina were very tasty too. (I'd recommend going for the hot foods)

Food is amazing, I never try CHOROS A LA CHALACA steamed mussels on a lime juice and pico de gallo omg. Was amazing, but the ceviche misto is the best thing I ever had is just perfect in every sense Amazing

Very good Peruvian food. I came here with my friend whose mother is Peruvian so he had high expectations. The plantains are DELICIOUS. I would say the ceviche was not that good and didn't taste that fresh, but you have to consider that Houston is not that coastal. The arroz con pescado however was delicious and packed with flavor. Would recommend this place and excited to check it out again!

This little quaint restaurant offers an authentic taste of Peru for a modest price. The walls are covered with art from around Peru and the service is quick and friendly. The business appears to be family owned which gives the food an extra layer of deliciousness!

I believe the chef also cooks for the Peruvian embassy here sometimes in Houston. The inside of their restaurant is decorated in a very intimate way with cultural aspects from the two countries. You already know I HAD to get ceviche when coming to a Peruvian restaurant. I got the ceviche chalaco, which includes mahi-mahi, octopus, shrimp, racoto-aji leche de Tigre, choclo, sweet potato puree, cancha, topped with fried cuttlefish. It has a nice citrus flavor and the leche de Tigre base is soo good. I actually really liked the mahi-mahi, and the fried cuttlefish was fried to perfection with the fish inside still being soft and delicious. That sweet potato puree really elevates the dish as well, it helps counter the citrus flavor but adds another dimension of flavor. My friend got the lomo saltado and it was so so good. The beef was so tender and easy to chew. The soy-oyster sauce they use makes this dish soooo so good. I love the steak fries drenched with the sauce too. I got the arroz con Mariscos. I remember they used to put squid ink in the rice back then. They infuse the rice with aji Amarillo (green pepper sauce?) and top it with shrimp, clams, mussels, octopus, cod, and sarza criolla (vinegar onions). It's basically a seafood paella. This was actually pretty mild in flavor compared to the lomo saltado. The rice was good and almost creamy like but I don't think I was a fan of the corn/bean like pieces in the rice? The seafood itself was good as well, especially the shrimp. If you come here you need to for sure get the ceviche and lomo saltado. They also have sushi rolls that you can order as well, they seem like very unique ones too

This time I called in an order for tallarines saltados and two whole chickens for my family. They told me it would be ready in an hour, which was fine. When I arrived to pick it up, the owner handed me the food and casually said he replaced my tallarines with lomo saltado -- without asking me first. He said it was "a better choice" and that they were out of tallarines. I told him clearly that I did not want lomo saltado, but he kept insisting, so I just took it to avoid arguing. When we got home, the real problem started -- both chickens were undercooked, tough, and hard to chew. It was so bad that I told my kids and family not to eat any of it, and I ended up throwing everything in the trash. I paid good money for this meal, and we didn't get to eat at all. Changing an order without consent and serving raw chicken is not acceptable. I won't be coming back.

Why it took me so long to get here however is a mystery to me because it's a lovely restaurant. I don't mean by that the ambience it's actually rather plain however the service and the food is absolutely spectacular. I'm by no means an expert in Peruvian food however the patrons were buying for Peruvian hence I'm going to take their presence as a statement about authenticity of the food and a 12 year history. They don't sell alcohol so all of their profits are from dishes, which are absolutely spectacular. We had something a kin to an empanada, which was made with beef deep fried, but the crust was very white and very flavorful. The server gave me a side dip which added some spice to the meal however, before putting it on, I ate some without the dip and it was very flavorful. Potatoes, rice and beans are a large part of Peruvian cuisine all of which I tasted here all of which were very, very good. We got basically a sampler tray which included ceviche beef, chicken, and a potato bean combination, which was just wonderful. The waiter was kind enough to point it out to us and I'm glad he did because it was a great overview of what Peruvian food is. Since I'm not familiar with the cuisine rather than spend a great deal of time addressing it what I'm going to tell you is, it is a wonderful restaurant, the service is equally wonderful, BYOB and enjoy yourself. I will not let so much time go again before I revisit this fine Restaurant. It was a pleasure.
