Don't be fooled by the location or the bars on the windows. This place is legit. Their lomo saltado is one of the best ive had. And I got the the arroz con mariscos....deeeelishus. Small place and the owner is super nice. The only thing to be warned about is the wait can be excruciating. It was 55 minutes before I got my food....but again they were pretty packed on a Friday night. Also, my waiter seemed to have a hard time identifying my ordering lomo saltado....weird for a peruvian place. Other than that, this place is awesome. We tried Peru Gourmet based on a friends recommend. We had the ceviche, empanadas and the combo platter in the pic, sorry can't remember the name. Had we know ceviche came on the platter we wouldn't have ordered it separately. The platter is $38 - we didn't see the value in it and would not order it again. The chef was nice enough to replace the ceviche, which ended up being fried rice (random but it was pretty good). If we were to go back we would order the empanadas (menu says $3 and shows 2 but they are $3 each), plantains and ceviche. It is BYOB and they provide wine glasses. read more

Went here for lunch on Saturday. We had the shrimp soup and yuca fries. Both dishes were very nice. I really enjoyed the shrimp soup which had a good amount of shrimp and potatoes. I only wish it was less salty. I also enjoyed the yuca, but the cheese sauce should be warm and not cold. Also, it's expensive for yuca fries. I look forward to trying more dishes there. read more

Oh my this place really hit the spot! My hubby and I visited this place within the first week of moving to the area! The atmosphere is no frills cafe style. Their was one serve for the whole place which has about 10-15 tables. It wasn't busy when we came in. We were given chips and salsa, I loved the thicker cut tortilla chips and the salsa had a different and savory type of flavor. My husband ordered their ceviche which is on a whole different level than what I've ever seen before and so delicious! Apparently the Peruvians are well-known for their seafood! I loved it! I got the Shrimp Chupe which blew my socks off! It was perfectly balanced flavor... the creaminess, the depth of flavor from the spices and the contents.... It was a new experience for me that I just loved! Something so simple as soup but it wasn't like any soup I ever had before. Try this place out, it's a hidden gem... *UPDATE! I don't know much about Peruvian food but if this experience is indication, it's now one of my favorite cuisines. We had empanadas and chicharrons. So good! They also have different types of stir fry. Lots of root veggies, fish and lime juice in the cuisine. We also had some kind of bistecca something but we weRe too full from appetizers so we took it home. Anything with an egg on top is a winner for me so I'm looking forward to dinner. The waiters are all very friendly and helpful. Great experience. Loses a star for location. Tiny place in a strip mall with bars on Windows. Don't let this deter you though. read more

My family loves this place. All three of my kids will eat here. My husband loves the tri tip beef sandwich, I love their shrimp ceviche, and my kids all love the stir fried rice. The empanadas are tasty as well. Oh and the chips and salsa they give you are unique and delicious. The people who work there are also very friendly. We decided to try this new little restaurant last night and fell in love!! The food is uniquely delicious!! (See the attached pics). The owner, Franco, is very attentive. It does take a little while to get your food, but it is well worth the wait. I had the shredded chicken dish. It was fantastic!!! My friend had the stir fry filet mignon. It was incredible, too!! There is no alcohol license but Franco said that you are allowed to BYOB. I will definitely be back and will recommend this place to friends and family. It's nice to have a new restaurant in the neighborhood. I'm very much in favor of supporting local businesses and this one is definitely worth supporting. read more

Holy cow...this place is amazing. Now, it's better to do take-out, in my opinion, as it's a true hole in the wall with little ambience. Still, it is worth any drive. (Lucky for me, I'm 1.5 miles away!) The Lomo Saltado is wonderful: tender meat, veggies cooked just right, and even the rice is tasty on its own. This small quaint restaurant transports you to Peru and makes you feel like you're sharing a meal at home. The menu features so many delicious dishes. I had Aji de Gallina which just sent me to heaven! My boyfriend had the chicken fried rice and just lived it. On Thursdays they have a special rotisserie chicken family deal that is so popular they suggest you call ahead to see if there's anything left! Found out about it on the Nextdoor neighborhood web site, all are raving how delicious the food is so we tried it tonight and it was all they said it was. i was expecting better from all the reviews. ...authentic? i very much disagree the food was not bad but very far from the peruvian authentic taste. they started out with chips and salsa but the taste was sweet not spicy , thats a first sign i should had left right there but i couldnt judge just yet as soon as we got the chiken and ceviche we knew it missed the spots that make peruvian food what it is. I tasted no garlic or spice the aji was as sweet as bbq sauce . the chicken had too much soy sauce and it missed many of the peruvian attributes . no thanks i rather eat pollo loco at least there i know im getting tortillas ..... read more

Everything was good, seasonings, lots of food, good prices - we ordered 1/2 chicken w rice, beans, chips and homemade sweet spicy sauce $13.99 for the two of us to share, even brought some home. Yum! This place is definitely added to our rotation of local restaurants. My husband and I live in the area and decided to try it based on the Yelp reviews (thanks yelp!). I wish I could tell you the names of the dishes, but I can't remember what they were called. Our appetizer was #4 - a pork dish. It was HUGE; along with the meat (which had an amazing flavor, fall-apart tender, little bit of crisp on the edge) was served bread, yucca fries, and tasty marinated sliced purple onions. Also they had a mound of french fries, of which we weren't a fan, but we boxed the fries and took them to our daughter, who is a fan. For our entree, we got a combo for 2 (because we couldn't make up our minds). It came with Cerviche (yum!), Seafood stir fried rice, yucca, beef cubes, and a chicken dish. Each bite we just said "Yum!" over and over. Tons of food, so we boxed the rest for the next day (which I got to enjoy again!) The place is BYOB, which in our world is an added bonus. Walked down to Foodarama and got a bottle (yes, we found a decent bottle of wine at Foodarama). All in, with tip, was about $50. Like other reviews, don't be turned off by the location. Be willing to venture into the area and enjoy some amazing food. Don't be in a hurry; just relax, enjoy your beverage, the chips and yummy salsa. Wow! This place is awesome! Finally a great restaurant in the Willowbend/Meyerland area! We had the lomo salteado (best we've ever had outside of Peru) and the arroz chaufa for entrees and thd yuca frita and beef empanadas for appetizers. All were super authentic and home-made. The owner even gave us these Peruvian sweets that literally melt in your mouth! The service was also great and fast. The place is little and in the Foodarama strip center, but don't let that dissuade you from trying out this new place. After just one try, my family and I are sure to become regulars! read more

The food was very flavorful and had a delicious taste. We got the empendas. I guess I've never had real empenadas, it was soft and the meat was flavor and soft enough for my baby to it. Other places the crust is usually hard. The fish soup was delicious I enjoyed it immensely. A little pricey but the serving is large and is a shareable dish so I guess it's worth it. The chicken wasn't that great. It tasted a little charred. However the fried rice was delicious. It was full of flavor and can beat a lot of these so called Chinese rice at other restaurants. The service was excellent. The waiter gave us a history of the restaurant and the owner came out to greet and thank us. We will be back and highly recommend this little gem to others. read more
