This place has the best vanilla latte I've ever had. It tastes like a cupcake. They only charge 35 cents for alternative milks. The vibe is regal but relaxed. Perfect spot for studying. Even when it's packed it stays pretty quiet. read more

I came in for a special event and I don't know why I haven't been here before! It could be because it's hard to park near here on a busy day or night but that shouldn't stop you from giving it a try. I ordered their chamomile tea that comes in a tea pot and is enough for two people to share. It was the perfect remedy for a cold evening. I love their cute sparkly lights in the window and the cozy atmosphere. The staff was really nice while we ordered and I loved their selection of herbal teas. I've become unsure of my own opinions in my old age. As I sit aboard the commuter train, Vitamin Water and bran muffin in hand, I contemplate the venue at which I purchased said muffin, and my pending country club membership on my 55th birthday. Perugino has a "nice" ambiance. It's not "bad". It's not too "pricey". It's the kind of place where people that use extraneous quotation marks "go". On numerous occasions I have popped in to use their wireless (especially when it means going here or an Allann Bros. establishment, icky poo), and sometime I've had a beer with Tatiana M., or indulged in a fiber-rich oldmansnack™ (read: previous muffin mention). But nothing has really ever made me just "need" to "go" "here". I pass by it every time I walk to the train station. And, being a Portland weekender for the past year, that's quite often. But I've only stopped in two times. One to get an iced coffee ("bitter"), and today, when I got a muffin to ward off the chill of what I'm sure will become Freezedeath™ 2010 if the "news" stations have anything to say about "it". Oftentimes the service is just "so-so" and the coffee "is" OK. And sometimes the coffee is real bad and the staff are "rude". And sometimes they are "jolly" and I get a beer instead of a coffee. But back to my previous "point". I'm unsure. I don't know if I just don't "get it" or if there "isn't" anything to "get". A "50/50". "Non-Committal". Stop in if you want "an" alright pastry and some coffee to get "you" by. Or if you need to study/work and don't mind the "chattering" of "people" who "throw up" "air quotes" at all "times" to "emphasize" their conversation. read more

I really love the atmosphere of this place, which is why I forgave the leathery chocolate croissant (perhaps the baker was having an offday and took it out on the dough - because I could tell it was homemade, having been a former croissant maker). At any rate, the music, the staff, the airy feeling in this brick and art-lined building was the perfect spot to concentrate on homework. You don't feel like you're packed in like sardines. Also they have a couple big tables for people to spread out and actually meet other like minded individuals. The cappucino was ok - I liked the flavor of the espresso but it was more like a mini latte with barely a hint of foam (perhaps a barista in training, since I noticed one helping the other). Overall, very friendly staff though, and decent coffee. I will be back, perhaps for a glass of wine and a panini! read more

When I couldn't get work done, this is where I went. Perugino is at the top of the cafe experience in Eugene, and there are a couple of really nice twists that you don't find elsewhere. 1) Wine and a selection that is intelligent and not static. 2) Gelato. Delicious stuff and made like it should be. Free Wi-Fi is a plus, and it's got enough bandwidth that the place can be full and you're not stuck waiting for five minutes for a page to load. Structurally, they could use a few more outlets, but people are generally pretty friendly with each other when needing to share space or move a little to allow you access to what's there. The drinks are top notch, and the barristas know what they're doing. The coffee is solid, delicious and consistent. The pastries are a little too spendy for me, but they look delicious. Same with the food in general. Basically, I never ate there because I didn't think it was worth it to me. Everything else is worth it though, big time. The best part? It's far enough from campus and isolated enough that the people who are there really want to be there and didn't just stumble in or follow the trend. It's one of the places in Eugene where I felt like I wasn't in Eugene, and while I love Eugene for what it is...it's nice to get out and remember the rest of the world from time to time. read more

I moved to Yewjean for graduate school, and made haste to find a good coffee shop in town. Having just come from the land of milk and honey that is the greater Portland area, and then Corvallis, I expected to find a similar array of independent coffee shops with free wi-fi and ample study space. Boy was I surprised to find the large number of chain stores (*bucks!), and noisy, uncomfortable-chair-loving cafe stands. Enter Perugino. Although certainly not a lunch spot (go down the hall to the Park Street Cafe for that), Perugino's gets the win in my book for having created a wonderful, quiet, comfortable space for college students to study, business suits to negotiate, and our local ruffians to ... do whatever it is they do. Also, the coffee is great. Perugino's gets a bonus point for being a wonderful, under-the-radar spot for a casual get-together. I have now reserved "those big tables in the back" to celebrate a handful of successful dissertation defenses, and a recent business acquisition. The hors d'œuvres have been really special, and they have a decent selection of champagne, too. However, 'gino's promptly loses said point for no longer offering gelato AND for telling me that the closest place to get it is the Price Chopper (aka Market of Choice) on 29th and Willamette. This is my kind of place!... the closest thing to a European experience I've yet come across in Eugene. Excellent cafe fare like quiche, panini, bruschetta, and a passionate borsht that insists on appreciation from each one of the senses! A beautiful place to gather with a group, or to pensively ponder the world over a hot cup of tea or espresso cozied into your own small corner... Framed in a rustic architecture updated to the modern metropolitan experience, and staffed by a friendly and clever clan of baristas. This place has it all! As I sit here typing my review over Perugino's free Wi Fi connection, gentle and friendly conversations dance through the air over a musical backdrop that isn't afraid to be interesting. There's a group nearby that has gathered to learn Italian, and when people arrive at the espresso bar to collect their orders simultaneously, strangers inevitably share a friendly exchange. Every element harmonizes into warmth, comfort, and a peaceful enthusiasm here. An easy five stars if only there was an equally vibrant veranda to add some sunshine to the mix... but the indoor experience is almost perfect! read more

Coffee and Wine bar? Yes, please! Your staff has been incredibly helpful every time I've gone in on my little adventure roadtrip, and for that I am grateful. Also grateful for wonderful homemade sorbettos and gelatos, as well as yummy coffee and the best smelling paninis and salads. You tempted me to eat wheat and damn the consequences. If you are searching for a place to enjoy a great cup of coffee and some lovely art, this is your spot. The food can sometimes be questionable, as servers change a bit more often than other places that I frequent. However, that being said, the consistency of the coffee seems to be right on no matter whom is behind the counter. This is one of my favorite places to go to meet with clients. The environment is very comfortable, "classy," and accommodating. Beautifully decorated. Happy hour wine for $3 a glass and a variety of goodies to eat. I work downtown and have been gOing to Perugino for awhile now and felt I should write a review. They have great pastries. The blueberry cheese danish is hands down my favorite. I Aalto love their coffee and this might sound wired but I'm really picky about my foam and Perugino has the best foam on their lattes! I always get a nonfat white mocha and the foam is always perfect and fluffy. I don't know if it's their machine or what but it's delicious and I've become very judgmental of all other coffee shops now. Lol the place is also super chill and cute inside. I stop by this little café when I happen to be in the area. I only get a latte and its ok. I'm a Stumptown trained barista, I take coffee seriously and expect other baristas to do the same. If you don't take pride in what you do as a barista, I can taste it in your drinks. When I walk up to the counter to order, I'm greeted by a stoned faced, monotone employee. They need to perk up especially in a customer service based job. In my opinion there are no good coffee shops here in Eugene. read more

The ambiance is different from anywhere else in Eugene: old-world with a bit of class. I've had my bosses request to meet here, in part because it's not grody and in part because it's pretty quiet. I generally don't drink coffee or espresso so I can't accurately comment about Perugino's handling of either. I occasionally get food but can't say I've been impressed by it... for example, panini are small (but tasty). Everything is expensive. Service is seldom with a smile. The register person usually stares at me, as though they have no idea why I am standing there staring at them. It also takes a while to get drinks. I ordered an iced tea after other people had ordered espresso drinks, and each and every espresso drink was made before I received my iced tea some ten minutes later. A little strange. Priorities seem to be a bit off - when I was a barista I was told to get the fast and easy things out of the way. Overall, not a terrible place to sit for a while. Just don't come on an empty stomach expecting to buy reasonably priced food. read more

My latte was flat, which if I wanted a flat latte I'd go to Starbucks. Not to mention, the milk was steamed too long so it was too hot to drink, which is a no-no for lattes. Service was less than friendly. The cashier didn't seem to want to be there...I guess I can't blame her. The barista was nice, but couldn't make a drink to save her life. The poor soul before me got a latte made of screaming milk...those of you who know anything about steaming milk know what I'm talking about. They had free wifi, but it lagged because a lot of people where there studying and using it. Atmosphere is nice, but the tables are really small. I probably won't be back. They have great latte. The vegetable quiche is very delicious. The tea, however, is a bit heavy. The inferior environment is really nice. The light, painting, and seat setting just make me feel calm. It's a good place to do my own work or have a little chat with my friends. One little thing is that there is usually one person serving at morning. So the waiting is pretty long. OK coffee in small cups. Good baked stuff, but they're from elsewhere. "Where do you get your coffee?" I asked the friendly barista. "Um, Cafe Zoka." "From Seattle?" I ask, a bit incredulous that with many really excellent local roasters, this place chooses coffee from Seattle. I'm used to Portland snobbishness (esp here on Yelp!) but this takes it a step further. As others have said, a nice place to look at and hang out in while using wifi, or if you're with someone and you want to actually be able to talk to each other. I've had two coffees here. The first time, it was delicious. (I believe it was a mocha, no problem with the verbiage there.) The ambiance was great, the barista girls are always classically beautiful, (not your boobs out, super-tanned dutch bro's girls looking for tips) and they have awesome, secluded window seating. The second time I had a coffee there I asked for a borgia. They didn't have oranges, but she said she could make me a mocha with orange flavor. She must have forgotten the orange, because I ended up with just a mocha. (And it had been to go, so no chance of righting it.) Not a bad experience though, the mocha was still good. read more

Perugino's has quite a few good things going for it: 1) Nice building. I mean high ceilings and exposed brick with a long axial layout downtown? This is what you look for in coffee shop decor. I think the interiors deptartment at the UO architecture takes a tour of this place every year. 2) Mitch is slanging some of the best gelato you are going to find. He is all about the flavors and doesn't hesitate to go over the top decadence. 3) Free wi-fi is a must in the modern slacker, hipster cafe. I admit to partaking in said freebie more than once here. 4) Nice selection of wines on glass pour just in case caffeine ain't your kick at the end of the night. By the glass is cheap but they do offer bottles as well. No matter how you slice it, Perugino is a good stop for lounging and sipping. read more

Great pastries, nice coffee, and I enjoy the Caprese. I've used a few Groupons for this place lately, and I was happy with what I got and the price I paid for it. Service can be a little slow, but nothing terrible. Fresh food selection is limited and doesn't seem to change. Yet despite my reasonable satisfaction with the food, I'm still somewhere between a 3 and a 4 star review. Something about this place just doesn't draw me in. This is never a place I think about for studying (don't think they have WiFi either?). I can't quite put my finger on it, but I feel like it ought to be more inviting, comfortable. Yes, it has a nice atmosphere. It feels like a proper cosmopolitan cafe, they have a nice wine selection and a good set of different seating options for groups/couples/individual/laptops. BUT... and this kills this place for me... I have NEVER had a properly pulled espresso here. Not once. It has always been bitter and with very little, if any crema. To the point of undrinkability. I've returned almost every espresso I've gotten here. Now if you drink latte's or mocha's or whatnot you may not notice, but a straight shot or macchiato is a disaster here. It's fine that the Philip Johnson glasses wearing owner only hires cute girls who look good in black shirts and skirts, but please give them some proper espresso training! read more

I've been a couple of times. Either on my own because I had to duck in out of the rain, or with a group of friends. I found the service to be friendly, sometimes you have to be the one to strike a conversation. The food is pretty good, a bit pricey in my opinion, normally I just get a coffee. Lovely latte art, I think it's required that baristas can do it or they are taught. The atmosphere is a very peaceful, classical music is always playing, it has a great location. I clearly stated that my order was "for here" so I don't understand why I didn't get my coffee in a ceramic cup. I come here to work once a week. The baristas are wonderful. So are the soy chai lattes! They have two vegan muffins and both are good, but I would love more vegan options. Though I come here to work with a friend every week it really isn't a good work space unless you happen upon the one table with 4 chairs next to a power outlet. Right to the point... They don't have gelato anymore! Don't be like me and walk across town from the "line out the door" Sweet Life in heels hoping for gelato. They supposedly got rid of the gelato machine because it was too noisy. The barista was pretty nice about explaining the situation and even admitted that the chocolate cake in the bakery case was from Costco. Hmmm... There were also signs saying "new lower prices". This place is really pretty and once upon a time, had a nice night scene. I've been here for wine, live music, dessert (not from Costco), and sniff-sniff, gelato.
