I waited for help by the groomers today and was pushed aside 4 different times for them just to help other customers. I have patience and understanding in most cases when people are short staffed, but this was terrible customer service. Petco clearly needs more staff and to train their employees better. I won't be returning as customer to Petco after my experience, and I've been a loyal customer for over 10 years now. Do better. read more

The people at this store absolutely refused to help me. I know it was 10 minutes to close when i came in looking for an albino Cory and an amono shrimp that the Petsmart across the street didn't have. All the tanks were dark and I couldn't see if they had any. When I asked at the register for help she said she would get someone over there but then came over about a minute later and said they couldn't because there were only 2 people working there and I should come back the following day. They were still open for 5 more minutes and she couldn't even look to see if there were any. Petcos services have been steadily declining for years but as someone who has worked in retail for 20 years, 6 of them at Petco, they are no longer worth going to. Very sad read more

I hate having to write this, that said beware, we own a Papillon and had him groomed to our satisfaction on our first visit. I went over detailed instructions with our groomer whom I don't even know his name because he didn't offer it to leave hair length 1/2" Top Dog Grooming, that was the first time. We scheduled another appointment with same groomer same cut Top Dog Treatment only to have him returned as you will see shaved to nearly his skin. Papillons are known for their coats well after this I will not be returning and expect management to address as we paid $69 dollars for this! We came to get some supplies for lizard, chinchillas, and fish. They were out of almost everything. We were literally in there for less than 5 mins total. It was near closing they kept following us and everyone else in the store around raising their voices that it was 5mins unto close. The girl at the register was rushing us and rude. I was in the store for over 15 minutes. One gal was evidently on hold when I walked in, so I asked where the product category was that I was looking for and went to that aisle. I was unable to find it and when I went back to the front to ask for assistance, both registers were busy helping customers and another was waiting for assistance along with me. Another employer clocked in and then disappeared to the back of the store. I left without purchasing anything, but not before bringing a step stool that had been left in the aisle up to the front. I had backed into it when I was looking for product and almost fell. I told the employee I handed it to that it was a trip hazard left in the aisle and walked out. read more

we have been taking our dog pepper to this petco for grooming for 15 years. he's always had a bit of anxiety but it's never been an issue until recently, especially now that he is a senior dog. Vicky, who has been the one cutting our dogs hair for 15 years always praises pepper when we come to pick him up and tells us what a good boy he is. however, twice now we've received a call for us to come pick him up after he pooped in the tub while getting washed. the first time was a few months ago, and then again today. embarrassing for sure, but understandable considering his age. when my mother went to pick pepper up, they told her that he is no longer ALLOWED to get his haircut there. if this has happened more than the two times that we are aware of, no one has informed us. if he had ever been aggressive with them (which he never has, at least to our knowledge) i would understand this more. when my mom went to go pick up pepper today, Vicky would not come outside and explain her reasoning to her as to why she won't see our dog anymore. for all these years, we have really enjoyed Vicky and she has always done a great job but this seems unreasonable and extremely disrespectful to not even come out and face my mother and explain why. now after 15 years, we have to find somewhere else to take him. very very upsetting. read more

So I've been really busy lately.... the overwhelmed kinda busy. I have to say these guys are great... while I firmly believe in "over the top customer service," it's hard to impress me. The second day in a row that I was out of dog food. I have a purebred yellow American Labrador, "Sawyer". He is highly sensitive in the allergy department..lol. It was 5 minutes to 9:00 pm The store closes at 9, so I called and "begged them to stay open. The agreed, I went in and they were ah- mazin!! Thanks Ladies! Sayer and I sure appreciate it! Petco in Menifee now charges a "materials fee" of $0.99 + tax on dog nail trimming and buffing. There are no "materials" used for the service. As such, the fee is bogus. To charge a "materials fee," a "material" must be used and diminished during its use. I sent an email to Petco for an explanation and the corporate office said my concern would be sent to the Menifee store for a response. It's been three weeks and I have not received an explanation. It should be noted the groomers were excellent; however, an extra dollar for nothing is a problem. read more

I arrived at the groomers around 3:45pm for my dog's routine nail trim and buffer. I had one lady take my dog over to the back room for the trim. Like usual, my dog is a bit anxious about going in. I was looking from the cash register and see how she started with the hind legs, then as she proceeded to the front legs she started to bite the worker. I can be empathetic about how she doesn't want to be bit, but she only finished ONE LEG! Then she told me my dog cannot comeback. As a result the job was left unfinished. Here is my takeaway from all this, if you're going to run an operation, you want to make sure your costumers comeback, which I have before up until now. However to keep your costumers, you need to equip your staff with preventative gear to make sure nothing goes wrong. Instead of banning your loyal costumers, how about your attach the dogs with MUZZLES?! otherwise this is just grounds for chapter 11. I will never give this Petco my business again. I tried to get my dogs groomed there today. I made the appointment about six weeks ago because it is very difficult to find anywhere that has openings right now. I have two young kids at home and could barely get the dogs here by myself so I had a family member go out of his way to come help me bring my dogs there early, so that my kids could get down in time for their nap and I could bring the dogs to their appointment. One of my dogs Chester, is a very anxious dog and he was yelping and whining when we got to Petco... They tell me that they can't bring him back early because He is an anxious dog. And this is something they did not tell me ahead of time would be a problem. So they turn us away and tell us that we have to come back at our designated appointment time of 1 o'clock instead of early at 11:45. They took my other dog in but wouldn't take my anxious dog. They also said they would not put the two of them in the same cage which I know would help Chester calm down. They weren't even willing to give it a try. So my family member offers to stay for another hour so that I can go home drop off my 2year old for her nap, feed my 5 month old, then turn around and come back to Petco and try and drop off my dog cHester again... I also decided to give him some hemp oil for dogs so that it would calm him A little bit and help everybody out. So when I get there at 1 o'clock they are about to take him back and I make the comment, " I even gave him some hemp oil to help him calm down for you guys." They take him back, and then they start talking to each other and within five minutes they bring him back out to me and tell me that because I told them that he's on hemp oil they can no longer groom him because legally they're not allowed to groom a dog that's on some thing even though they sell hemp oil in their store. It's a corporate policy. So not only was I unable to bring my dog the first time but then they turned me away the second time and I lost my appointment which I've been waiting to get into for six weeks. I was so unbelievably upset and I will never give them my business again. If I didn't so desperately need my other dog groomed, I would've taken her back as well, and not giving them a dime. And I think it should be mentioned that my dog is the friendliest and sweetest dog ever... He just is a talker when he gets nervous. read more

One of the staff members claimed that my dog supposably tried to bite her and I know that's complete BS, because I've been getting my dog groomed for the past 6 years every summer and sometimes twice a year and have never ever had one complaint from any other groomers. As a result, they asked me not to return. Which is okay, PetSmart is way better and right across the street. read more

I haven't had the best experiences with Petco grooming in the past, but Petco Menifee really changed that for me. We have been taking our two dogs to Christine C. for a few months now and it is very clear that she cares deeply about animals and their well being, especially when they come to her for grooming. Our dogs are very cautious/timid at the groomers but Christine has helped change that. She is very patient and will not rush your dog into the grooming experience if they are scared. She always takes a few minutes before each appointment to greet our dogs, examine their coat/nails, and love on them before taking them off our hands. Our dogs love seeing Christine every month and I definitely trust her to keep our dogs safe while in her care! read more

Walked in looking for veterinary food for my dog only after they didn't answer the phone. Once there M.. helped me, I showed him my veterinary card for my dog. I was able to find what I needed and got into checkout. Tried to pay and they refused my veterinary card because it wasn't their vet, which just closed. He said it was company policy to refuse it. ... ... If I present a valid card I would think they should be able to except it. ... I was only asking for one can of food. read more

It's a great place to take for the vet or food, toy, or snacks(never any issues there). But as a groomer, they have no idea what customer service is. Took my wife's maultice and my melinois puppy to get groomed. The maultice was simply shaved any nailed trimmed. Face and tail weren't touched. Still had tear stains and long straggly hairs. The melinois still felt greasy and smelled dirty. Non of their ears were cleaned. Overall horrible job for what I paid. Will never go back for the grooming. read more

I adopted a dog, purchased a conure an Expensive bird & Lg cage, as well as a Guinea pig & cage. All the thousands of dollars on their food over the yrs & that includes a 2nd dog. 4 animals now. They recently opened Thrive, a vet's office inside. I even began to use the devices. I'm All Petco All The Time, that is until today. I brought my chihuahua in to get his nails clipped a $10 charge at all the places that I have gone. That includes PetSmart. I handed over my chi & when he was given back to me their cost was $34.50!!! Wth? I was shocked because a vet only adds another $12-$15 at a visit to clip their nails! I paid as I protested (their so-called low fees). I told them I was shocked that they'd be charging such a rediculous price per toenail as well as never shopping there Ever again. But they could not care any less! I'm not done with my complaining yet! I will be using any & all platforms for their selfish act of gouging while our country is in crises mode!!! Worse grooming ever!!! My two maltipoo's look like they were only brushed. I asked for feet, face, and fanny with a bath for my puppies that are less than 6 months old, and was charged adult price which I was ok with. Their bottoms don't look like they were touched and the faces look even worse. I should have read the reviews here before taking them!! I wish I could give less than 1 star because I could've done a better job myself, actually my teenage daughters did a better job! What a waste!!! PETCO IS LIKE TOYS R US FOR OUR BULLDOGS!! Our Mini Bulldog Kaya and her Mom Chloe love Petco. I usually only bring Kaya because Chloe is a big chicken to be around other dogs. We go in once a month to buy new toys for them and Kaya just loved all the attention she gets. Customer service is always nice. I've never got my girls groomed because I feel I do a better job myself but every time I come in here I see people picking up and dropping off. Never any unhappy customers and actually a really calm store. TIPS: As a breeder, I recommend Taste of the Wild for Bulldogs but Petco don't carry it. The closest they to it is Blue Buffalo which is the genetic brand for it. If you want to try it we have it delivered to our home from Chewy.com which is cheaper then blue buffalo at Petco.. Check it out.. Don't have to lug a huge bag of dog food around. Always get grain free treats for your loved ones. Be sure to get a Petco card because reward points add up to free gifts!! read more

Took in my little girl Sepia for a bath and cut with Amanda and upon picking her up found that Amanda had done an absolutely perfect job! She was cut to the exact length we had discussed and I still can't get over how even her coat is. I will post pictures with the review to show a before and after. Don't come here to get your dog groomed. I came in for an appointment in the morning and they told me it would take 2 hours.... 3 and a half hours they took, so I sat waiting for him in my car for another hour and a half. I come in to pick my dog up and he looked so bad... long whiskers uneven cut...His face looks so weird!! I look at his nails and they are split! And most importantly his ears (he is a poodle and poodles need their ears cleaned and hair plucked out) they didn't even touch his ears and I paid for that. I went back in and I saw two girls rushing with his nails almost brutually! A dog groomer is supposed to be gentle and take their time. I look at his ears and they look exactly the same. Terrible service. Online scheduling for grooming has been discontinued. When you call the message says they will return your call within a few hours. Nope. They don't return calls at all. The only way to make an apt is to stand in line... which I did for 30 minutes. Then, I was told that they discontinued their nail trimming service... you have to schedule a complete bath for that now. It would have been nice to have a sign telling what they had discontinued. I've had it. Pet Smart... here I come! They answered my call, and scheduled me for the service I wanted with fast friendly service. I recommend Pet Smart. read more

I bought a dog bed last month from them. Yesterday, stuffing was coming out of the sides. Of course, I didn't think to save my $40 receipt. I brought the bed back, and asked for a refund. They refused, since I didn't have a receipt. Well the price, and the name of the store was still hanging on tags hanging from underneath the dog bed. So, it wasn't like I was fraudulently returning some other store's merchandise without a receipt. They offered me only a store credit on a plastic card. Well, I have a policy of not buying more crap from the store that sold me crap to begin with, and simply wanted my money back. Nope. So, I accepted the store credit, and traded for a sturdier-looking bed that was also five dollars cheaper. They rang up the return, and I asked that they return the five dollar balance to me in cash. Nope. So, I asked for the manager. No manager. I asked when the manager was coming back. "In ten minutes." I said, "I'll wait." I waited twenty minutes. Sat on the cash register counter the whole time, until this short, squatty, homosexual man threatened to call security (adding the turkey-neck shrug routine on me) if I didn't move, so they could help other customers. I said, "I'm still being helped, I'm not moving." "Sir, you can sit in our pet washing area if you like, or we're calling security." "Call security" I said, while scooching my fat butt down off their counter top and moving away so they could help one of their other customers. Manager shows up approximately five minutes after that. Has no idea what my problem is. I give her my spiel, and as soon as she responded, I realized I'm talking to a store drone with no authority, nor ability to give me what I'm asking for. However, this wasn't her first 'return problem' rodeo. No, she's got her response memorized and I can forget getting a cash refund without a receipt, regardless of the fact that she's speaking to one of God's holiest children. Well, after all was said and done, I was roped, tied, and cowed into taking my five dollar credit with me, out the door, until such a time comes that I need something that costs at least five dollars at Petco. Do I feel ashamed at my smallness? Yes, but I've already lost the credit card, and so now I've paid $40 for a $35 dog bed anyway. Just moved to Wichestser from Murrieta. Set an app. We arrived a little early & waited for Kimberly to arrive. When she did she was not very friendly. She began and kept proding/polking at him around his feet and we saw Toby did not like that or her. Kimberly told us that she cannot do his appointment because he snipped her when she polked/proded at him. It was their policy crap. I said So different locations have different policies? NO! "Then get me someone who can " I Told the manager that our pet does not know her and she did not even try and be friendly first. "try & greet him" , Toby is almost ten years old and he has always had groomers. This has never happened before & my husband became extremely upset and walked out! I tried talking with a manager But the damage was done. BIG FAIL KIMBERLY!! with your bad attitude and Bad Vibe now we don't want you touching our pet ever! This location lost a client. I'll start with, I like this petco much better than others I've been into. Everyone seems to be nice, and although they seem to be understaffed sometimes, it seems they're doing a decent job. I've had one problem and that was 2 years ago after my dog had puppies. I had just weaned them and there were 10 so I asked advice about food aggression and the lady gave an ok answer but one I had read is not effective. When I told her how I was trying to take care of it (which worked) she got all upset and told me everything I was doing was wrong and they're going to turn out bad etc. This lady doesn't know me and she doesn't know dogs well either. All those puppies turned out to be very loving and sweet, I still get updates on half of them. If I ask for advice that's cool, but I didn't ask for your opinion on how to raise my dogs and I certainly didn't ask for your misguided judgement. Other than that, I've had good experiences here. I love their clearance section and so do my babies! I take them on birthdays to get a toy and a treat. That's probably the most I go here anymore. They are pricey but how I look at it is petco is like a Nordstrom. Most people don't buy everything at Nordstrom, it's only for special occasions or to spoil yourself a little, it's the same for petco. I don't buy my dog food from their anymore but they get treats and toys every once in awhile. I did get a baby chinchilla 5 years ago! I think she was too young to be taken from her mother but she is the sweetest chinchilla I've owned! The only thing I hate is how small the cage is that they keep their chillas in. They need more room than that. And the birds need to be moved out from under the vents. read more

I am writing this review because this location sells unhealthy animals. My 11 yr old daughter bought a hamster at this location around Easter time with her birthday money. Today we noticed suddenly the hamster developed a very large, grotesque red bump on it's chest and could not use it's front legs. (A few weeks after we bought it a black spot developed on its back which we thought was skin color but it got progressively darker). My daughter was having a hard time. She was upset and kept talking about how she was responsible. She was actually brainstorming different ways to humanly "take care" of the situation, it was awful! We decided to bring it back just to avoid dealing with the sick animal. Ashley, the manager was cold. She did acknowledge it was an animal that they sell at their store and finally agreed to take it in. We donated back the cage, toys, bowls, food and everything that my daughter bought there. Ashley said that we didn't get a refund because it was over the 3 mos. but we didn't expect a refund. It would have been nice if Ashley had said a kind word or was at all warm. Instead I got a kind of feeling from her for some reason, completely rude attitude and seemingly unaware of what was really going on. My daughter witnessed this and left even more upset. Also, I have owned birds all my life and I have to say, the majority of the birds at this store are sickly. read more

I am not usually one to review businesses, but I had a frustrating experience here this past weekend. I had an appointment scheduled to get both of my Huskies groomed and de-shed treatment. After getting the dogs down to the Petco groomers for our appointment, I provided the staff with the current shot records for both dogs. Then they continued collecting information from me, contact, Vet, all the standard stuff. This all took over a half hour because it was our first visit to this groomer, which Is to be expected. After completing the paperwork and turning over both dogs, the staff asked me if either of them are on medication or have any medical conditions, thinking they just needed to know in case of emergency I disclosed that one of them has epilepsy and has been on medication with no seizures for years. At that point the staff rudely told me "sorry we can't groom your dog because she has a medical condition, store policy". If that's the stores policy, they should ask those questions first when making the appointments. Not after wasting someone's time dragging their dogs down there and filling out paperwork. Both of my dogs have been groomed several times before and had no issues. In the future I will be going to a private groomer. read more
