Hit or miss with inventory. They often run out of things. Puppy play on Sunday at 2pm is great. Avoid going on sunday between 2-3pm if you have a dog not in puppy play, one of the other dogs lunged at my dog. read more

Took my 2 small dogs in at 9 am and learned I would not have 2 groomers as promised when I booked the appointment. When I returned at 2:30 only 1 dog was ready for pick up. 'Brunhilda' needed another hour for the 2nd dog. Neither dog had a complete haircut. It was all uneven and no way symmetrical. (I had to spend another 1.5 hours repairing what I had just paid $116.00 for Petco to do)! When I picked up my 2nd dog both dogs cowarded in Brunhilda's presence. Her larger than life dominance of the small space made them uneasy. Rescue dogs are easily intimidated. Her loud voice and actions made the dogs nervous. They won't be subjected to that atmosphere again. read more

We just had our best grooming yet with Julia. We have worked with this Petco for years now, and have had great experiences but this is the best to date. Julia took an immense amount of care with our Shih Tzu, Bella. She was thorough and very patient with our dog, who often gets very nervous with groomers. She turned out a fantastic hair cut even though it was her first time with our pup. We are very grateful and look forward to working with her in the future! read more

This location is not the one to support. The dog training is not worthwhile. Jimi does not follow Petco's POSITIVE training methods. The methods used are aversive, controversial, and detrimental to your dog. It is worth your time and money to go elsewhere for training or puppy socials. read more

The store has a good selection of pet care products, fish and other tank or cage critters. However, the place is perpetually understaffed so getting help selecting food or buying pets is quite a battle. There is a filtered water store 1 lot down and a dog groomer on-site. They carry fish, the occasional shrimp, aquarium plants, birds, mice, ferrets, guinea pigs, hermit crabs, snakes, tarantulas and lizards, among other things. There is also a dog and cat "snack bar" where you can get interesting treats. read more

I stopped by this Petco, close to my house, and bought a couple of things for my Grand Doggy. Dog training was going on at the time by a women trainer. It was very disturbing to watch. She picked them up by the leash, swung them around, practically in the air and used her knee to hit them on the side. It was crazy. I'm not sure this kind of training works, but there is no way I would bring my dog here. I'm all for training, but I felt sorry for these dogs & the owners. read more

Had a terrible experience with Jimi the trainer. Brought my 12 week old pup into the socialization class. There was a lot of people and dogs and my pup was excited so he started to bark a lot. The first thing Jimi, the behavioralist, called my dog was "psycho" then proceeded to put him in with another dog 3 times his size. When she set him in the pen, she said under her breath, "come here dummy". I was willing to get past the bad attitude for a pleasant puppy experience. However, The large dog, was too big and continued to overpower mine. Mine was in defense bearing his teeth and trying to get away. When I mentioned that I thought it was a miss-match, Jimi was quite defensive stating that "she was the trainer" totally dismissing the fact that I have seen my dog in positive playgroups and never has he needed to bear his teeth and run away. She then grabbed my dog and put him in with dogs 3 times SMALLER than mine. After a minute, said, "See your dog does the same thing!" and handed him back to me. Of course, he was AGAIN miss-matched!! I feel she did it to try to prove her point and was angry that I would even challenge her. All in all, a horrible experience. read more

Ginger is an angel! Everytime I walk into the store her whole staff treats me and my pups like family. She is so well educated and polite, I go out of my way to go to her Petco. She helped me figure out what kind of training I needed for my adult rescue, and pick out the best food for her diet. read more

I tried to return an item bought at another Petco and the assistant manager was rude and told me she didn't have to take the return because it was not part of her inventory. She did eventually take it back but not without making a big deal of it and making me feel like she was doing a favor. I will never go back to that store again. read more

I'm giving Petco 5 stars because the difference in service and experience from my last visit to this one is so extraordinary, the team deserves 5 stars. I'm not going to go into detail about my last visit, because I came away today a believer! I didn't know anyone thought about kitty litter as much as me, but I found someone who understood my dilemma.... Actually multiple dilemmas.... Tracking litter, odor, small apartment, too much fragrance, too heavy to carry... The list goes on! But leave it to Julie at the register to spot a customer who needed some TLC. She flagged down Cheryl, the store manager who then took as much time as I needed to answer all my questions and help me find light at the end of the tunnel regarding my search for the perfect litter. I'm amazed and so grateful. So thank you, Team Petco.... It's days and experiences like this that remind me to shop local and give my merchants another chance. read more

This review is for Jimi and Patty, who are two of the dog trainers at this site. I took my Lab/Mastiff mix here for puppy classes and was really impressed with these two ladies. Both have a no-nonsense, straightforward approach which was an eye opening and very beneficial experience for me. Jimi is the head trainer and will give you undivided attention if needed, even when there is a group of people there for class. When that would happen, Patty would take over and direct the rest of the group, teamwork that I thought was really effective. They both offered hands on demonstration. A lot of time was spent observing how you interacted and dealt with your dog and the consequences of your actions. I think one of the most interesting things was the free socialization hour Petco offers for puppies under 6 months old. The pups are allowed free play to learn how to deal with their own species, something that is absolutely necessary for every dog. Jimi and Patty would navigate all the dogs interactions, all the while explaining the dogs' behavior, what to look out for, what was acceptable, and how to deal with it. It was truly amazing watching them put the training into action. Some days it was chaos if there were a lot of animals, yet you always felt like your dog was being watched out for and was safe. I learned so much from them and would highly recommend their expertise. read more

This is for Dog Training because my dog needed training, behavior modification & social therapy. My dog is a high anxiety 15 lb. untrained shelter dog. I'm told he was born in the shelter, then was raised in an unstructured foster home. Everyone told me he shook because he is part Chihuahua and its normal. I felt badly for him and coddled him too much. I adopted him when he was 2 and for 2 years I had him enrolled in social groups. When I first adopted him he sat shaking in the corner. I met Jimi, the Dog trainer while shopping for dog supplies. Well, what a difference a few weeks makes. I took responsibility for the dog's behavior, as I learned its me, the owner for allowing "misbehavior". At first its cute but becomes a problem later. Jimi is straightforward and tells you like it is. She in essence has been training me, not the dog. Being consistent, patient, following through and practicing after the class has helped reinforce the lessons. My dog no longer uses a harness and doesn't pull me when heading home. I never thought it was possible but outside the home, he sits, lies down and is eager to be trained. He participates during the class instead of cowering & shaking in the corner, as I expected he would be. She's an amazing, trainer, experienced & effective. Every week, I see improvement. He isn't snapping, biting or showing his teeth at other dogs anymore unless they are being the aggressor. One month later, he is still improving. i'm not usually a petco person - i go to small dog stores for supplies etc. and finding a place to go is hard since reviews often vary so widely. but jesse was recommended by a trusted friend, so i tried it out, and i'm glad i did! I'm so happy with the grooming my little cavalier king charles spaniel received here today! jesse did her hair and did such a wonderful job. she looks and feels just beautiful! my little pup has dry eye and even though i didn't ask them to, they kept her eyes washed out throughout the cut. i'll definitely be back. :) read more

Unfortunately, Sarah in grooming has gone to a petco in San Jose, and the groomers who are there now have twice caused my cat's nails to bleed by clipping too low. And this is the sweet cat who is easy to handle! However, somehow they still valiantly manage to handle my other (feisty) cat, so I'll still give this store 4 stars - plus the store overall is a nice one and the staff, including the groomers, are friendly. read more

Don't go to Jasmine for your dog's haircut! My yorkie was supposed to have a 'teddy bear' cut around his face, but it turned out to be more rat-like instead. The cut was uneven and the poor little guy looks just awful! I'll never go there again. read more

First of all I really trust Jess in the grooming with my new pug puppy pork chops she is always ready to help take care of him when I call to get him groomed the same day but the only downside is I bought a bag of Purina puppy chow the blue bag and when I opened it it had worms tons of worms it was disgusting the manager ginger apologized and gave me and new bag of something better to feed my dog. She told me never to buy any bags that are glued and not plastic because the packaging has holes in it causing worms I'm there at least 2 times a week and everyone knows pork chop when he walks in the door this is a good place read more

They have everything I need for my cat and dog. It isnt usually crowded, but the cashiers and sales help are slow at the check out counter and do not seem very motivated to find you items or get you moving quickly. They have good hours and the parking is excellent. read more

We are going to have a new kitten soon and the staff here were super nice. Since it was our first time, they tried using as many coupons as possible. The four starts is for the service we got. We bought a Guinea pig from the store two years ago which was clearly labelled a female, and then later bought two more females. After adequate socialization we put all three guineas together. Turns out the first was not a female and both of the other guineas got pregnant and had 8 pups between them resulting in the need many additional cage and copious quantities of food and bedding. When I ask the store for help with this they were largely unsupportive (except for one employee). Particularly the store manager Ginger, she was quite rude and told us that they had no responsibility whatsoever 30 days after purchase. When I told her about the company policy to do the right thing, she refused to listen. Also I echo the concerns of another reviewer of the in inhuman conditions the Guineas and hamster are kept in including small cages with glaring lights. Never never buy any pet here as this store not care about their pets or their costumers and refuses to take responsibility for their actions and is rude to the customer in the process. read more

We bought a Guinea pig from there and it died 3 weeks later. When we got it home the first day, we realized it had ringworm in patches and on his ears. We went in to talk to the assistant manager and she assured us his health was fine and to spray Tinactin all over the little guy and it would go away. It never went away. He is dead!! My son is 12 and took excellent care of him and provided him with all the necessary nutrients. The woman also mentioned to us, while laughing, that she gets ring worm from the Guinea pigs there all of the time!!! The animals are not healthy and the employees all tell you different ways to care for him. Our heads were spinning with misinformation! read more

I have been shopping at this Petco for 5 years . I buy all my pet supplies there (dog food, fish food, etc) the service is excellent and prices are reasonable. However, every time I have purchased an animal it dies within 2-3 weeks. Bought several fish and most recently a hamster. Now, before you all assume I'm just a horrible pet parent know I have purchased other small pets elsewhere and thy have remained alive and healthy for many, many years. The hamster died after 4 days... 4 days! Will continue purchasing out supplies there but think will look elsewhere for the live critters. read more

I have been getting my dog groomed at Petco in Mountain View for several months now. Normally his grooming has been wonderful and the customer service equally great. This time, however, I had an extremely unpleasing experience. My Pekapoo's haircut was barely a haircut. He was dematted well but his hair was barely touched. Since he has a very thick, course coat, any groomer would know that at least an inch should be taken off. Alejandro said we agreed on half an inch to 3/4 of an inch should be removed when we very clearly agreed on at least 1 inch. Now Petco won't fix my dog's hair, which is so long he can still barely see and his hair is already getting matted again. Petco's grooming manager was 'out to lunch' and couldn't speak with me. They did call me back and offer me an $8 coupon to then pay another $40 for a new cut. HORRIBLE customer service and I will be brining my dog back to a boutique groomer. Yet another reason not to go to big box, corporate stores. Don't go here if you want great groomers and strong customer service! read more
