PETCO north riverside. I would not trust there vet service. They made to manny critical errors witch compound problems. The counter person Danial is also horable. Just talked to him was told to come down and pick up a dewormer. I get there the vet has no time to authorize it. Come back in a day or 2. Store assistant manager Shanon talked to Danial. Danial called me back and responded he never said what he did. I told him he was a lier. He responded telling me to pick up my records for the dog and not to come back to PETCO. I just got my dog back from the groomer. He's so stressed. He has cut is patchy. And I requested they don't use scents because he's got a lot of allergies. They sprayed him with strong cologne anyway and he's sneezing and scratching his face so I'll ha to give him another bat when I get home. Not great. read more

Employee stopped what he was doing to help me find some dog food and he was super nice however i wouldn't have needed his help if the store wasn't a complete disaster. Every isle had huge carts full of product blocking shelves and walkways, it was a headache pushing my cart through. You could also see customers and employees stumbling over eachother and the mountains of stock just left everywhere. I usually send my boyfriend in to grab the food real quick so I had no idea the condition of the store, but he says it's a regular occurrence. If you plan on bringing your pets here or just want to shop around, I'd advise against it as it is a hazard of how much bulk product is just laid around everywhere. Awful customer service! I asked if they had any more of the 26 lb cat litter I had in my cart, as I prefer to get 26 instead of 13 lb bags of which I had both in my cart. The kid who came to " help" said it only comes in one size. So I pointed out that I had 2 sizes in my cart right in front of him, he then copped an attitude and walked off. I see a lot of bad reviews here, a couple weeks ago I took my dog to buy food, I received nothing but compliments and good attitude towards me and my girl by the staff, a team member working in the dog food section was really nice, wish I remembered his name. But, he helped me find a breed specific dog food for my girl and he seemed well informed on it. however, my word cannot speak for other departments of the store for I have no need to be in them. I wish I could give this ZERO stars! They had FOUR guinea pigs to a 2 sq ft cage. This is just inhumane. I mentioned it to the cashier, and he was receptive. He called for the animal handler to come take a look. The animal handler assured me that this was "totally within policy" and that they would be separated once they "reach a certain age." Two of the four were essentially full grown. Also, I'm 100% sure that the guinea pigs are infected with lice; my husband saw one crawling in the hair (yes, guinea pig lice is visible to the naked eye.) I mentioned this to the animal handler, but I highly doubt anything will come of it. Treating guinea pigs for lice and mites is easy and cheap, and it makes so much difference for the health of a guinea pig. Maybe the Petco employees at this store are following "policy." Returned some expired Raw Frozen food in exchange for another bag and at least a courtesy gift card for selling food that is not expired. I wouldn't have asked for the gift card IF the food was at a minimum of 7 days old but this food expired exactly on Oct 29, 2016 and I bought it Dec 20, 2016. That is almost two months old. I wouldn't call that a mistake but that just pure neglect. As I searched to find a fresh bag, I found another expired bag in the front ready to be sold as fresh food. That tells me no one has checked this machine in over a month. My dog has to eat raw foods due to Allergies so it needs to be fresh at all times. (Back to the story) The manager was nonchalant about the situation when presented with two bags of expired food and the cashier seemed as though he was too timid to ask for the gift card. He told me to ask and I politely told him that I was the customer. In the end, he gave me a "Be my guest" 5 dollar coupon and said thats all can give. No apology or ill make sure the machine has fresh foods. Terrible. I will just get the food at my local small pet store. Fresh frozen food and better service. I will never step foot in the store again. The guinea pigs, first of all looked ill. They are all cramped in tiny tanks. I bought one of my guinea pigs there she had scurvy when i got her =( poor thing almost passed away. I also adopted a guinea pig from them. Was told she had NO health problems. Very wrong. I spend over 300 bucks in vet bills and ended up having to put her down. it was awful. I spoke with the head honco of petco about it but it still doesn't change my opinion. Not very happy with my grooming experience. I brought my dog in for a bath and brush. The sign said 28.99 for Australian Cattle Dogs but I was charged 32.99 with no explanation. I would have refused to pay it, but my husband picked him up and didn't know about the listed price. When I dropped him off the groomer (who was also the salon manager) acted like she was unsure of how to approach or handle animals. She asked me to stand outside out of his view while she tried to put him in the cage. He was hesitant , but no where near aggressive. She came out from the back and said " He didn't want to go, but I just shoved him in..." Like that was supposed to make me feel comfortable leaving my pet with her. When I picked him up, I was not impressed. Floral scent (that lasted 2 days), nails clipped (but very frayed, like they needed to be filed) and he layed around for the rest off the day, like he was depressed. I am very happy with my experience with the grooming salon today. My sweet baby had Lulu as his groomer and she did a wonderful job on him. She gladly took the time out to look at a photo of how I wanted him to look. I have to say he looked great, smelled very clean and was so soft when he was done. He had some difficult matting around the ears and tail and she was able to get all of that out without making him bald. The staff was helpful and polite and the price was quite fair. read more

Petco has a lot of high priced pet food for dogs and cats, as well as other animals. Over many years I have purchased food for snakes, lizards, turtles, iguanas, birds, fish, etc. Fortunately, I have a Petco Card and usually get a coupon each month for $5 off. The staff at this store is helpful when they can be found. This is a frequent problem. If you choose to go to Petco, get a Petco Card. There fish department is one of the dirtiest I've seen in my opinion dead fish all over every time I go. There's one lady there who's rude and is always on her phone. She'll ask which fish we want we show her and she'll grab anyone and say "they're all the same anyways" why even ask them. If she's there I won't even go near the fish department I'll buy somewhere else for fish stuff just to not deal with her as far as the store itself aside from the fish department it's well organized and clean. read more

The only reason I'm giving Petco 2 stars is because I buy rope toys and food for my dog when they are on sale and on average save maybe 80 bucks on dog food a year. I don't want anyone to read this review and think that this particular Petco is super terrible because all of these pet stores are pretty shitty in my opinion. The big bone (no pun intended) I have to pick with Petco is their care of their reptiles. I have gone in there on multiple occasions and have heard employees giving out false information on animal care, feeding improper prey items to animals (sorry to tell you this but crickets are not good snake food) and housing way too many animals in one tank. In the last few months, I have seen a savannah monitor that looked very sickly, a dead corn snake being eaten by a cricket and 10 boa constrictor hatchlings housed in one tank! For those of you reading this who want to buy any animal for the love of god do your research online and buy from a reputable breeder (or ask the staff about their adoption programs for their sick reptiles if you are an experienced keeper). And even if you do buy an animal from Petco, go home and google that animal's care requirements. You'll find out many things that their staff won't tell you. read more

Wow, tons of negative reviews for this place, can't understand exactly why because every single time I've gone to this location, I've had a great experience. Some of the highlights of why I love this place: 1. They have a pet nutritionist on staff! Thats friggin' awesome! 2. Everyone is super polite and helpful. 3. They host the monthly annual pet shots for dogs+ kitties for under $100.00, so 4 for the price of 1, basically. 4. You can enter any type of animal into their Halloween contest...I entered my cat and she won 3rd place amongst the pups. 5. Its clean, organized, and well laid out. 6. When I talk to the store associates, even the GM, they are always interested in my pet stories. 7. The same cashier has been there forever - dark red gothic hair, face piercings. She is uber friendly! I can't comment about the grooming because they don't except cats, which doesn't bother me the slightest...I have "care" kitties that require lots of, hmmm....shall we say temperament and patience. The pet cages here are pretty clean and they just started selling kitties! I think my only qualm about the cat adoption is that the prices are so expensive! I sincerely always look forward to my trips here? Did I also mention that there are some handsome men that work there. I won't name names, but there are at least 3! read more

I came in to this location to get turtle supplies for my pet turtles new home that I just got. I asked the guy if he could help with finding aquatic turtle supplies (we were already in the reptile aisle)? When I asked, he acted like I was bothering him. I've been to this location before, the employees were super helpful & if I ever said I needed something for a pet they would show me whatever they feel I needed (usually their entire selection for that animal). With this guy it was like pulling teeth! I told him what I was interested in buying (a heating lamp, something for them to hide under, a filter and accessories)... he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about but still showed me some varieties of the items that they had. Being unsatisfied with their service, I left the store with nothing, went home & ordered everything off Amazon. I gave this location 2 stars because in the past they were nice but this guy definitely would be a reason to rate them 1 Star. Beware of the grooming Salon. I took my dog there on 02/17/2017 and within 4 hours I got call that stated my dog was ready to be picked up. When I arrived my dog was brought out from the back room with a cut on her knew and a piece of her skin hanging off. I immediately said omg what happened why didn't you notify me there was an accident. The manager Victoria said well its not a big deal!!! Immediately 2 store managers walked in stating that I could take my dog to the vet and they would cover the cost. They immediately tried to hush up the grooming salon manager (Victoria) and not allow her to tell me how they sliced a piece of my dogs skin off.The manager then said maybe you're dog moved. Okay so let's blame it on the 12 pound maltese. Victoria showed no remorse and seemed annoyed with the fact that she had extra work to do. I saved the voice mail for corporate and they were offended by the fact that I was never notified of the accident amd could not be provided of what happened to the dog either the groomer herself was so careless that she didn't notice what she did and someone else caught the injury before i arrived or they are protecting themselves from the liability. The store also seemed to try and bargain with me to avoid filling an incident report. So beware. The mangers name is Victoria and the actually groomer that injured my dog is named Amanda. My dog is now on 2 meds to avoid the infection of the wound! Look at the pictures! I understand accidents happen but they had a total disregard for my dog's well being!!! I went here because I was looking to adopt a cat and I had my kids pick the one they liked when we got home I filled out all the paper work online Lana called me the next day and also called my references She told me she would bring the cat to my house so that we can meet him. She never made it to my house and then had the nerve to email me saying we were not a good fit?!?!? How would she know we are not a good fit if she never even met us! After the awful experiences I've had at this location, I will never purchase anything from Petco again. I work nearby, and I would stop in frequently after work to pick up food for my 5 month old kittens. I can't buy their food at the grocery store, I feed them Blue Buffalo Wilderness, so despite the bad vibes I've gotten from their night time employees, I'd keep going back- the location is super convenient. Their shelves are always half empty, and honestly I never complained. I work in retail, I get it. I don't mind when a store is running behind or shelves aren't crazy full. BUT, when I get attitude from your employees, just for asking if you have an item in the back? That's a huge problem. Or when I was accused of reading a tag or sign wrong for a sale price. I was purchasing 3 variety packs of expensive kitten food, and the tag said it's on sale for 7.99. It rings up 8.99. I was super nice about it, I just politely let them know that it's supposed to be 7.99. A guy came over and said, you didn't read the sign correctly. I said, I'm sorry but I did..... it's a sale tag. He's like ok so show me, if you're right, I will honor it. I literally had to walk him over to the item and show him the tag. Before we even reached the tag, he's like you see this sign doesn't apply to what you are purchasing. I said that's not what I'm talking about, and showed him the tag. He's like OH. Ok. I guess I have to honor the price, it's an expired tag. And he like rolled his eyes. Again, I work retail, so the fact that he was acting annoyed at ME, for a mistake they made, was quite off putting. My most recent experience was the absolute worst. This time, they were running a buy 20 cans, save 20% sale. On the shelf were only 6 cans of the kitten food I buy. I wasn't being picky about flavors, there was only 6 cans total. Mind you, blue buffalo wilderness only comes in 2 flavors of kitten food, so you would think at least one of them would be in stock at all times. So I search the shelves, trying to see if I can find more cans hidden behind the other packages. I was trying SO HARD to not have to ask the people who work there, if there are more in the back. Finally, I told myself F this I'm a customer I can't feel like I'm bothering them. I couldn't find anyone working on the floor. So I got in line and waited my turn. The cashier was speaking Spanish to the customer she was ringing up, and she seemed very friendly! I was like wow, maybe for once they will be nice. When it was my turn, I let her know the shelf only had 6 cans of kitten food. I asked if there were more in the back. She said, oh I'm sure there are, but. There isn't anyone stocking until overnight. You can come back in the morning. I was like, I'm not able to come back. I said can you open the variety packs since it's the same thing and just scan the cans individually So I can get the sale price? She gave me a snobby look and said No. we can't. I was like it's the same item.... she's like well I'll ask, but they're gonna say no. We're not allowed to. She ran over to a door that says employees only and knocked on it. I can hear the conversation she's having with the guy behind the door (The same guy who gave me a hard time about his expired price tags last week). She was like, can we open these packs so she can get the sale price? Since we are out of cans on the shelf. He's like, no, absolutely not. They don't have the same bar code. She came back and told me, she was like yep, I told you we can't. :) She seriously looked so happy to tell me no! And if the bar code thing is true, couldn't they just scan the ones they have on the shelf or substitute them? I work in retail! I make exceptions all the time. You are supposed to take care of the customer. This store failed at taking care of the customer. I will NEVER return. And it's YOUR loss, because I have TWO 5 month old kittens, who I only buy top quality items for. You could've had a customer for the next 15-20 years. Never again. read more
