I normally bring my dog here for grooming and have ever since i got her less than a year ago. They were always very good with her and she was never nervous to go. Shes not even a year old so she is a fiesty little thing. I dropped her off today, then got a phone call an hour later saying "your dogs behavior was unexceptable and we will be charging you a fee"... Im sorry, is my dog a child in elementary school? Does she need detention? What??? I was so pissed. On top of it, i get there, and she is completely butchered! Worst haircut ever! If you cant handle a fiesty dog than why are you in this profession?? Isnt that what you're trained to do? If i didnt recieve those ignorant comments on the phone i probably wouldnt be too upset about the haircut. But the lady was so rude. Now i have to take my dog to another groomer tomorrow to fix their mess and put her through more of this crap. Needless to say i will not be returning. Also the little tiny girl who works the front desk is beyond rude. No personality, not friendly. Great first impression when you walk through the door...NOT! read more

The actual store is clean and well kept. The problem here is the staff seems to be non existent and when you actually get help they seem to be bothered. Most petcos are filled with friendly pet lover staff however this one is pretty awful. read more

This place is horrible. Deserves NO stars!!!!! Went to get my dog groomed here, and he came out looking like a cat. I have a pomeranian and you absolutely can not cut their hair too short or it messes up their coat. This exactly what I told the lady before they took him from me. And I get him back and they completely shaved him!!!! All except his little bushy tail. I was horrified. And now after two months, his hair still has not grown back. They have ruined my pets coat and are inexperienced!!!!!! I will never go here again... read more

I have gone to petco with a puppy I had purchased whom I made sure he was the right age to not be in need of his maternal mother. As I was looking around asking for help some of the employees were helpful but a trainer decided to assume without asking and started bashing me about buying a dog "too young" when clearly the dog was about to be 8 weeks old. Definitely will not come back to this location unless necessary,I'd rather drive to the one by River Forest where they know how to talk and help to a person without being disrespectful; especially the trainer who I just wished I had known her name. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. Each and every time I come to this PetCo there is one problem or another. Dead fish , reptiles, birds. Snotty , ignorant and unhelpful "team" members and uncaring managers. Even their VetCo ( pop up wellness clinics) are not exempt. One time you may get a really good vet who actually does all the things they are supposed to like listen to their heart, lungs etc and most times the vets seem so oblivious as to why they are there, it makes me wonder if they really are a vet. The store is filthy and now since they have expanded online, you mostly get people on the phone to whom English is not well spoken or understood nor do they have any idea what a pop up VetCo clinic is. I just spent 30 minutes trying to explain what this man could not understand.. that THEIR vet had prescribed for my dog and he kept saying we have to contact your vet to verify he wrote the order. NO! it's YOUR Petco vet.. he responds, we don't have vets. I miss Drs Foster and Smith so much. All their good hard, honest work and effort may end up being in vain since people are tired of the rude, inconsiderate, expensive and shoddy experiences they get from PetCo and will find other places to go. The store was somewhat well kept and the advice seemed knowledgeable but as my sister was looking for a hamster and I was looking for a guinea pig, the associate gave us an offer on his own ferrite that he was trying to sell. Though the advice for care was practical that interaction felt wrong ever since. But what are you going to do? That's north Riverside for you. read more

Never again, they have a new Salon manager named Melissa or Melinda, not sure of the last name but...she cut my dog, not once but twice! In the same day I might add. Also very rude, and said it was my fault. My dog was groomed there for years before by Kathy and never had a problem, ever.She was not knotted up, she gets groomed every 6 weeks and she is an easy groom, no biting or pulling. At least she always had been. I think a dog can sense when somebody is hurried and harassed. I am going to Kathy again, found her here through yelp. The staff is very well trained in every aspect of the business, very knowledgeable, & very friendly. We have bearded dragons, fish, dogs (a puppy included) & a dwarf hamster. They've helped us in all aspects, best food options for all pets, training, best tank options & setup for freshwater & salt water, & best cage option for specific dog breeds. The staff is always friendly and informative. Located in a very busy area, the store is always hopping but the workers manage to keep being helpful and pleasant, sometimes looking a bit frazzled but nice to customers. Take your business elsewhere. I brought my dog in to get her nails clipped and I'll never take her back again. The lady up front was not friendly at all and it was just the beginning of the day. When she finally did take my dog after taking care of two other customers even though I was there first, she acted all annoyed because my dog was barking. When she was all done she told me that my dog was a handful and there would be an extra "handling" charge next time. WHATEVER! My dog was probably moving and it wasn't like she was acting aggressive towards the lady. In all of these years that was the first time I was told that about my dog (and I been to many places)... good thing there are plenty of experienced dog handlers at other places that know how to handle dogs on the difficult end (and won't complain about it). read more

I have come to this location strictly for dog grooming for years. This last time I went, I took my brand new fur baby. Their computers were down, so they couldn't check us in for my dog's scheduled grooming. Before I left, I asked for my dog to be shaved down for the summer, and to have his tail kept long. When I came back, I was blown away with how adorable he looked! She even put a little bow tie on him. Despite the stress of dealing with their computers, they still did a wonderful job. I've been buying live food for my snake here for 10 years, only because the PetSmart in Broadview doesn't carry feeder rodents. I've seen generations of employees come and go. This has consistently been the worst shopping experience of any retailer I frequent. All employees are poorly trained, unmotivated, and rude. I do not overstate the case. They seem to delight in refusing to help customers. For the love of God, Broadview PetSmart, please start carrying live feeder rodents so I can buy all my pet supplies from you and never, ever enter the store again. I'm more than happy to drive the extra 3.5 miles for my dog supplies and everything other than food for my snake. read more

I take my dogs to get their shots here, it's only $55 and the vet and their assistants are real nice. It's one of the few places that are low cost and the people are kind to the animals. Other low cost vet places like Paws mistreat animals. Very grateful that this store allows these types of services in this area. read more

horrible groomers!!!!! they messed up my toy poodles ears. according to the groomers she had to shaved off all of my dogs hair from her ears because it was matted (and it wasnt) she upsetted my dog. my dog had horrible cuts on the bottom of her ears. i took her to the vet because she had been acting weird since i picked her up from the groomer and now her ears were bleeding!! the vet bill wasnt PRETTY!!!!! ughhhhhh horrible horrilbe groomers!!!! and of course if i call and complain they wont do anything but blame the owner because they know everything!!! I used to take my dog to get groomed by the manager. I loved her and came from a distance and paid the high price cause I trusted her. So in the middle of grooming my dog they pull her into the office and force her to retire in the middle of grooming my dog. So she left and they are scrambling to finish my dog who looked bad. Management does not even offer me an explanation when I see someone else touching my dog they made an associate tell me. They offered me no discount either my dog spent over 6 hrs there. I complained cooperate and have been waiting now 4 days no call back. This is the exact reason I go to petsmart, petco is outrageous on prices, clueless and down right rude! Come to find out my groomer was backed into a corner because she is in her 60's gets paid more then the other managers cause she has been there 15 years and they are revamping their salon, I guess the saying goes out with the old in with the new... Right before Xmas good luck to the other employes in this horrible economy petco doesn't care about the employees or their customers. I never had any trouble with my old Petco in Skokie but when I moved to Berwyn and went to this location, they were refusing to take my dog saying I needed to show proof of vaccinations. I explained that I went to another Petco previous times and they never asked for his records. She stated it has been a Petco policy for years. This was the first I heard of this. (That's fine, if it is but the other store never made me bring in paperwork.) When I finally convinced her that my dog was in the Petco system she looked it up and was obviously quite annoyed by it and said "well, i guess we can do it." She took my dog and put him on the table. She was rather rough with him after I told her that he gets nervous with getting his nails clipped (he doesn't bite or bark, just shakes a bit) and my dog started freaking out trying to get off the table displaying the worst behavior I've ever seen from my mild mannered little dog. I was then told that I'm the reason he was freaking out and demanded to leave the grooming area because "I'm making it worse." I definitely did not feel good about leaving or wanted to leave after seeing how rough they were with my dog. They then paged me to come back when they were done and commented on how bad my dog was with getting his nails done. I stated that he never had a problem before with anyone and I would not be coming back. I will now drive an extra 10 minutes to go to Petsmart in Bridgeview because this place is not worth my time and frustration. read more

i think the petco dog salon is a great place to bring your dog to get groomed. the salon mgr. is very caring to the dogs and really friendly . you can tell she loves taking care of the dogs. my yellow lab loves going there. read more
