Tonight's experience was fantastic! They had the large crickets in stock which is fantastic!! Their large crickets are the perfect size for my tarantula! The pet supplies plus just East in Arlington heights has the worst cricket selection, it's like asking the budtender for some indoor and you get grimy outdoor small buds for indoor quality weed. Petco has better crickets than pet supplies plus and buddy who drives a blue Tc coupe and complained about no one answering the phone, I wouldn't answer the phone if you were on the other line. You old geezer gave me the creeps! Heads up management don't keep young attractive women alone up front with creepy single old men! Buddy waited for the cashier after work I bet. read more

Do NOT take your dog here for grooming if they have curly fur. The groomers here are exceptionally lazy and will SHAVE your dog practically down to the bone if they have any tangles in their hair which are common with poodles and poodle mixes. My dog looked RIDICULOUS when I picked him up. He is regularly getting laughed and pointed at on the street now because he is patchy and feral looking after getting "groomed" at this establishment. He was sulking around our house looking very depressed once he came home from this hack job. I suspect the groomer was rough and manhandling him given my dogs mood and the fact that the groomer was giving us quite the attitude and telling us doodles should be kept shaved (insane lie) at all times. The groomer expressed much frustration with us when we stated that we didn't want to shave our dog. He clearly just doesn't want to do his job and has an anti doodle bias because curly haired dogs take more care to groom. If you don't want to deal with all fur textures maybe you shouldn't be a groomer! read more

I can't stop thinking about the poor cats in the adoption area. There were two cats in each small cubbie, and the smell of urine so terribly strong. I can't imagine how bad it was for them inside that glass enclosure. The cashier said the rescue org is responsible for cleaning them. I think I'll go back tomorrow to check on them. And ask about what the rescue org is. Those poor cats. :-( read more

This store is very clean, and the employees are so kind and helpful!! I love their fish section! Especially the bettas, the bettas look well cared for and I love that they don't have the bright lights under the cups like a certain nearby store has. They used to sell plants near the reptiles, which is a nice idea until i realized those plants were not pet friendly (I hope the company can correct that in the future because it is a pretty cool idea!) I brought my dog in for a bath. A BATH only. Three hours later I picked up an animal that was nervous and scared and shaven in random places to the point where he looked like he was MAMED. Look at these before and after photos. He looks like he just had surgery! My dog was sulking and sad for three days after we left this place. I complained to management and they did nothing. They even overcharged me for things I never agreed to. They didn't cut his nails, and I can tell by the way he was cut that ZERO care or effort was put into his grooming. Instead of brushing and trimming out the matts like other groomers, they just shaved giant patches out of him haphazardly. There are a lot of rumors out there of groomers that hate doodles. Nick from Petco is definitely one of those people. He insisted that I shave my dog when I brought him there. That should have been my red flag. Any groomer that tells you to shave your doodle doesn't know what they're doing or they're just lazy. Doodles get knots. Knots are easy to cut out without shaving the area completely. I've taken him to one other groomer and she cared for him and brushed out his matts and he left there so fluffy and happy! I was so wrong to expect that kind of treatment from Petco. I don't know what went on at that place but my dog was NOT the same after. Look at how sad he was on the car ride home!!! I've never seen him not happy. I can't tell you how upset it makes me that choosing Petco lead to this happy animal being depressed for three days straight. This place should not be allowed to be responsible for your animal. We appreciate your time, talent, and especially the care you took with Ringo. While there I saw you showing various dogs, even those you weren't immediately working on, kindness and calm. After exiting the store I turned around, as I forgot something. Ringo was pulling to get back inside. Apparently he wasn't done thanking y'all. I have used the grooming dept at this location twice, and will not return. The guy who groomed my dogs was nice, and did his best. My problem comes with the women (I guess she is in charge back there) she is rude, and was rudely correcting him front of me. She was not nice about it. Complained about him using expensive wipes on my dogs paws. Why would you have them, and why would you have available to use? Made be feel like my pets don't matter. If your employee does something that needs corrections don't do it in front of customers. He looked embarrassed, and and I was embarrassed for him. I am not returning. There is a bunch of little details that you should consider, in order to get a proper fish for certain environment conditions. This is a small Petco that opened about a year ago in the plaza on Palatine Road in Hoffman Estates where the Jewel/Osco is. It is not a full Petco, but they do have all of the necessities. The day we stopped in, they had rescue cats available. We didn't think our dog would be particularly happy if we brought one home, so we didn't. None the less, we found what we were looking for. 7/2021 Stopped in for dog food. Found the staff to be very kind and helpful. Store was clean and the price was right.

I am 59 and have had many adult dogs but no puppy. I rescued all my dogs including the current puppy. I was required to provide training. I went to 2 other training facilities in Palatine, one of which I felt was too permissive and the other I felt was outright abusive. Eric at Petco in Palatine was recommended to me, which was a surprise because I have overheard other big box trainers training, and cringed. Eric is phenomenal with dogs. #1, he loves them all. He revels in meeting them, knowing them, understanding them, training them, rewarding them, and knows clearly and appropriately when and how to reward and discipline them. No jerking on choke collars and prong collars here. My dog and 6 others under the age of 6 months were in play group together and the benefit to each dog was clear and obvious after one hour. The Saturday 3pm puppy play time is free; the lessons , priceless. I recommend Eric to anyone who wants a POSITIVE training experience with their dog. He is extremely knowledgeable, sincerely interested and joyfully engaged in what he provides for our dogs..and us! read more

This Palatine PETCO is a hidden gem in this busy plaza. I have to give a shout out to their amazing employees. Paige is a wealth of knowledge and kindly took her time with me. I have a 6 month old MaltiPoo that was recently neutered. I was concerned about the healing process in that area and the continuous licking by my pup. Paige explained the redness and recommended a healing balm which made a world of difference in less than 24 hours. I also learned about dog food and what the ingredients REALLY are. This is a brief overview of my time spent at Petco with Paige learning so much more than my veterinarian has ever shared with me. Nick and Brianna in grooming were also helpful in cleaning up my pups itchy area. I scheduled a grooming appointment with them as soon as the 14 days of healing has ended. This is by far the smallest Petco I have ever been in. It is also the smelliest. From the moment you walk by the store you are greeted with this pungent odor that was a fragrant blend of animal dander and feces with a subtle hint of chlorine. They do have a large aquatic area and a few reptiles. There are also some cats up front for adaption. Based on the reviews it seems like there are a few helpful staff, but since I don't even have a pet, I was just there to peruse the isles of the store. read more

Not really my favorite place to go but it's the closest pet store to my place. However, they've been out of crickets a couple times, and when they do have them, it's $.14 a cricket (as compared to $.10 at Petsmart), which gets pricey. Cat food and litter os also more expensive here. The store aisles are too close together and cramped. I just feel really overwhelmed when I come here. The staff has been nothing but helpful, though. I just went into the store today to buy Frontline for my dog after seeing the price online of $48.99. At the store I was charged $63.99 - a difference of $15.00!!! I asked the cashier if they would match the online price. He was very polite while telling me store policy is to not match any price. But he directed me to the customer service number on the receipt. Upon calling the customer service number provided on the receipt, for a explanation I am left even more disgusted. I received a Petco customer service representative in a foreign land who kept reading the same statement over and over - "the price difference is due to an agreement between Petco and Petco.com". The Grooming is wonderful! My parents' 13 yr old Shih Tzu- Poodle Abby looks like half of her age. They used to take her elsewhere to get groomed and that place would just shave her and not bother to untangle her long silky fur. But PETCO did an AMAZING JOB grooming her, the length and style is perfect and my mom was delighted. She couldn't stop holding her. They are SO HAPPY with the grooming, thank you!!!!!!!! read more

I give this 1 star for their grooming service. I don't know what their deal is but they can never keep an appt you make. My dog always has to be rescheduled for a different day or time even though I make my appts for my dog 8 weeks in advance! After a year of having every single appt adjusted due to their lack of ability to not overbook themselves, I am finished with this groomer. I do not deserve to have my dog treated like the redhead stepchild because of the incompetence of scheduling on their part! read more

my husband i got our first puppy together and came to this petco for dog training. We cannot say enough good things about Eric as a trainer. It's great to meet someone who truly loves what they do and Eric is one of those people. From day 1 he helped us feel comfortable by shaping his training to our dog's personality, rather than just attempting a '1 size fits all' textbook approach. He was flexible to work around our schedule when needed, and made an amazing effort to make sure we were satisfied with the training classes (as well as equipping us to continue training at home with our Aussiedoodle Annie). We have been using Eric as our dog trainer for a while now. Our dog (shepherd/hound mix) has some issues (territorial, herding, barking, etc), and Eric has been great in terms of helping us work though them. Used to cringe at the thought of taking my dog to public places, or having people over, as the dog has a bark that sounds intimidating. Eric has helped us to correct this, and now has us on the path to completing Good Citizenship training. 4 stars, at least for their aquatic department. I am very surprised to find Brett here, who is the manager. He is actually very experienced as a fish and live aquatic plants person. He is nice, helpful and very patient. You are in luck if you bump into him. Apparently Brett also trained another person to be an aquatic specialist, after he got promoted. Long story short, I am surprised and grateful that I can actually find people with expertise here. Because at the Vernon Hills petco,they literally just hire people who are flimsy and have no knowledge of animal. Pretty good selection of betta. And was informed that they actually have the right to deny selling people fish if they do not think that they will be treated properly, PROPS! Quite an extensive selection of aquatic plants.
