I'm not rating the whole Petco - just the grooming section. And this is based off of 2 visits, for 2 separate dogs, in 1 weekend. Saturday, brought my dog in for his 11:30am appt. Had to walk around the store for a little bit, as the groomer didn't arrive to work yet. Paperwork went smoothly, transition from me to groomer went smoothly - all was good. I was told the appt would take 1 hr. Great! 12:30pm comes along - no phone call. But that's fine, because I know sometimes appt run longer. 1pm comes along - no phone call. 1:30pm comes along - no phone call, so I decided to call and inquire if my dog was done with his grooming appt. Person who answered said my dog was done. When I went in to pick up my dog, the groomer said that she tried to call but that it went straight to voicemail. Claimed she left a message...riiiight. It's the next day later...and I don't see a voice message from PC petco?! Hmm... interesting. Today (Sunday), brought my other dog for her 1:30pm appointment. First red flag - the groomer gave me SOMEONE's ELSE's document to sign (Suzanne? Shelby? With a dog named Destiny. They gave me your paperwork :/). I only realized it was the wrong paper when I wrote a different number for them to contact me (since yesterday, the groomer claimed they called me but it went straight to vm). Transition from me to groomer went smoothly. This time, she didn't tell me how long it would take. I assumed it'd take just as long as yesterday, so I anticipated 2hrs - but because I gave a different number, this time I thought I'd get a phone call. 2:30pm came along - no phone call. 3:30pm came along - no phone call. Went in around 3:45pm. Saw the groomer servicing another dog (cute brindle frenchie), so she sent out another groomer to "relay the message" to me, which was "come back at 4:15pm." So I requested that she call me when my dog was ready and left to go wait in my car. 4:20pm came along - no phone call. I went inside to see what was going on and what did I see? The groomer servicing my dog - looking like she's rushing, at that. 4:26pm, I got a call, "your dog is done *click*." I went to retrieve my dog and was taken aback by what I saw. Where the hell is the hair on my dog's ears?! What happened to her face?! She doesn't look like the cute puppy dog that I gave at 1:30. I was so stunned, I forgot I was supposed to put her harness on, i was too busy looking at her. Once I snapped out of my shock, I didn't how to respond, so I uncomfortably asked, "why did it take 3hrs?" The groomer said, "I had 7 dogs. Sunday is our busiest day. If you need your dog done faster, you should schedule your dog on a week day." To which I replied with, "okay, thank you." Then Kaci unleashed her blue leash and walked away. I can definitely say I will not return to this Petco grooming in PC. It was just a month where our main groomer at another location was totally busy so I had to schedule at the PC location. Kaci had serviced one of my dogs in March, and I wrote (in my personal notes about groomers) that she was friendly and did my dog's nails well. That's why I chose her service both my dogs this weekend. Disappointing, Kaci did not live up to my positive notes this time around. She didn't do my dog's nails well yesterday, as they were barely buffed. And today, she wasn't professional in keeping communication with me in a span of 3 hrs - but more than that, she completely changed the look of my dog's puppy face. Most importantly, the intake desk really needs to get their sh*t together, because their paperwork is literally in a messy pile on the table. If I wanted to take a paper (with someone's contact info on it), I totally could. Heck, I was given someone else's paper today by the groomer!! I'm so glad I was able to schedule with our regular groomer at another location for next month. Never again, PC Petco. Never again. read more

They had a woman that was a great groomer and ran into other people that would take their dogs here specifically for this woman. She quit cutting large dogs Abe this place fell way off. Last time I took my dog here he came home with multiple razor burn marks. I decided to cut his hair after that and tried to buy clipper coolant and the staff couldn't be bothered to get it out of the locked glass. Just find another pet store! read more

My family & I bring our dog simba here to get groomed a couple times a year. Tiffany, one of the groomers has been doing an amazing job cutting his long fur, nails and cleaning his ears/ teeth! I brought him here the other day & it took about an 1hr & half for him to be taken care of. He has some moles on his body but that isn't an issue for Tiffany. She does a great job going around them. I'm grateful that he does not come home traumatized like he has in the past from a previous groomer. Simba will definitely be back ! read more

I heard a lot of this product and was pleased to have found it at this store. Pricey but well worth it for my fur child. I was looking for some dog food that will help my senior dog to gain weight. A girl was very helpful to show me what they have in stock. Very helpful and nice. I was still disappointed they didn't have what I was lookIng for. I am very happy with my golden doodle grooming done by Christina. My dog is always so beautiful and loves it there. Christina has been grooming my dog since she was a puppy. I've loved every style she does. Also want to mention Leonard who always helps me with what dog food I need and now helping me get a traveling crate to fit my big dog for her airplane ride. I have taken one of my dogs there to get groomed multiple times, and just about 95% of the time i go online it doesn't let me book an appointment for either dog. Not sure if they just don't need the business or so badly need the business that their it department is short staffed it cant fix bugs. While the associates are pleasant and helpful, I can bring my pet to the store with me or I can bring her in for grooming, I can actually save enough by buying on line to pay the groomer of my choice. This is one place I will not be buying locally. Also shows by doing your homework in advance you can save quite a bit of money. BTW the prices are prime membership pricing with no shipping. I also purchase Nature Made Pet pads at Amazon for much less than locally. In case you can't tell, I will not be back to shop here. I went with my mom to Petco at the Pearl City Gateway Shopping Center. We walked it from her apartment behind the police station to across the street of WalMart. We entered the pet store during a semi hot day. It felt really comfortable walking into the air conditioned shop. Mom and I browsed around the store until she walked straight to the dog food section. Mom grabbed a small bag of dog food for her little Chihuahua. We also walked towards the doggie treat aisle. I ended up bagging some cookie shaped treats for mom's pet. Mom and I then proceeded to the checkout counter. Mom showed her Petco rewards card to the friendly female employee. I ended up paying for the items with my credit card. As we were heading towards sliding doors I noticed two dogs were getting groomed by the employees in the pet grooming room. Made a visit to the Pearl City Petco for a plastic terrarium that I needed. I had gone to the store in Waikele, first time there, but the store was VERY small. The only fish tanks they had were made of glass and quite expensive. So, instead of driving to Pearl City, I called them and asked if they had what I needed. I was put on hold for a minute, and they said they had it. So I went over, and they had quite a selection of what I needed. I chose what I needed and went my way. I had been to that location before and they had such a large selection of everything that was pet related. The live animals they sold were fishes for fresh and saltwater, guinea pigs, chinchillas, cats for adoption, tortoises, and even live plants for aquariums. I think if I ever need more pet stuff, I'll just go straight to the Pearl City location instead of Waikele. read more

DO NOT bring pet to be groomed here and DO NOT see Christina! I had a first time appointment with the groomers for 4 PM. I got a call at 7:30 in the morning from the groomer (not friendly at all) asking if I can come in earlier. I explain I don't have a car but I can come in at 3. I take my Shih Tzu in who is matted here and there but nothing out of the ordinary. She takes a look at him and says that he's too severe she's going to have to ask her manager. The manager comes and I know she told him that she just didn't want to do it because she wanted to go home. So they advised me to call my vet to have him sedated to get groomed. Such bad energy at this place. I took him to Petsmart and they did it with absolutely no issue and he was done within the hour. And they charged $20 less than the quote I was given at this company. read more

Absolutely ridiculous. I took my Pom in for his grooming appointment and ended up waiting 20+ mins just to check him in. We booked him for a bath, deshedding, nail trim and a haircut. They told us it was gonna be max of 4 hours. Understandable. But Samantha called us after 3 hours saying she couldn't really do anything because he was being to jumpy. I was extremely upset because he's gotten haircuts before and never had a problem. The only thing she did was a bath, nails and a choppy cut underneath. There is no reason to wait 3 hours to tell us she couldn't really do anything. A bath and sloppy work doesn't take 3 hours. They did give us a refund! And I'm thankful for that but I don't recommend for grooming! We ended up calling petco in Kaneohe to get his haircut the next day and Cheryl did amazing with him! read more

I was on this side of the island to pick up my daughter and had to stop by the store to get my pup's very specific brand of food (said my sons). I didn't know what I was looking for since I'm not used to the store nor am I familiar with the dog food brand so a very sweet manager? who saw that I was seemingly lost offered to help me find everything I needed. He grabbed a wagon, and walked with me and my daughter through the store to get everything we needed for my pup. He even opened up the dry shampoos for dogs so I could smell them before I bought anything! When I was done browsing, he walked me and my daughter to the register and when I was done paying he also walked us to our car and put the items in my car! Can you say grade A service?! I had a very upsetting experience here. I ordered a crate online for in store pickup. I had the email confirmation that showed how and how much I paid, but no physical receipt. Because of this, their system was showing a much lower price for my refund even though they agreed that I had evidence of the price I paid. I had to call their national customer care line to be issued the refund in store. So frustrating. No one seemed interested in helping me, in fact, they were far more interested in helping those in line behind me than helping me navigate their convoluted system. While I'm grateful that petco exists (I have 3 dogs!!!) they need to work on their customer service-or is this just the Sign of the post-covid times? I had excellent customer service at the Beretainia location for both purchase and return. Kaneohe location leaves a lot to be desired. read more

This was my first time ever taking a dog to the groomers so I was quite unfamiliar with everything. I was booking an appointment through the Petco app for my 3 month old Shih Tzu puppy when it alerted me to call the store instead to discuss the appointment according to my dog's breed. So I called and I was assisted on the phone by Vanessia. She was very kind with me and took the time to answer my questions regarding my puppy for her first time visit and I was also able to get an estimate. Thankfully the appointment we ended up scheduling was booked with her. I just wanna commend Vanessia for the wonderful customer service she provided me with and for the work and care she did with my puppy. Unfortunately my puppy wasn't able to get fully groomed because she was too scared. I was very grateful when Vanessia called updating me regarding the situation. She explained that my puppy was too scared and moving too much on the table. She didn't want to send her home with a bad haircut because of it nor did she want to traumatize her. However, my puppy was able to let her do certain things like trimming her face, paws, and clean up around her sanitation area. I'm so thankful that Vanessia didn't try to force a cut regardless of how much my puppy was probably squirming. When I went to pick up my puppy, she looked even cuter than when we first came in. Though she wasn't able to get a full groom, she was looking so clean and smelled so, so good. Though she wasn't able to get a full cut, I was so glad that Vanessia was able to trim her face because my puppy's eyes were more visible, her paws looked neat, and her sanitation area was cut and cleaned. We got the holiday spa package along with our session so she came out with a bow, a bandana, and a bag of treats. After the appointment, Vanessia discussed with me about trying another visit so that my puppy will get used to grooming. And I agree, I'll definitely be back for sure. After this experience, I totally felt at ease because I was a little anxious because I didn't know what to expect. I have to admit, prior to bringing my puppy here I read an article of a few horror stories of dogs that were groomed at PetSmart in the mainland and it recommended not bringing your dog grooming to chain stores like Petco or PetSmart, so I was a little skeptical. But Vanessia made me feel assured that I left my puppy in good hands and was receiving quality care. I will definitely be back for another attempt to get my puppy groomed and I'll make sure to book her session with Vanessia! Much mahalos to her! read more

Aw man, this is going pretty awful for me to start writing.. I actually am going to state what I like about Petco. I ... LOVE... PETCO. Done. Said and done. I've gone here to get dog food, (Science Diet), greenies, shampoo, leashes, collars, dog toys!, treats, kennels, grooming, beds you name it! I WOULD LITERALLY GET OFF OF WORK, a very very long day of work, just to walk around petco, look at stuff, dogs, cats, fishes, animals. I love the fact that Petco has workers who greet you when you come in with your puppies, they have a free puppy play time clinic to socialize dogs. Anywho... my heart fell when I decided I wanted to try the petco treats! They were so affordable! and you get so much! And are "labeled" individually the benefits and ingredients of each treat. (I.E. joint help) The first time around, I went happy go lucky with the scooper, I got everything on the menu. Lol! The second time around, I found that my puppies liked the turkey and carob chips. So I intentionally got those that time around. I like to save, so I decided to snap one of the turkey flavored bones in half.... and found it hanging on one end! I pulled it out further and found a rather long PLASTIC strip.. floss like thing baked into the treat! went on tuesday to look for a pet with my wife. as we passed the live birds and tropical fish section, we were greeted by Kawika. He was very friendly and explained how to care for tropical fishes and parakeets. We came back to him several times to ask him questions. He answered each time with such patience and courtesy. We were very impressed with him and his expertise. 6/30/21 Very disappointed with Petco Pharmacy! This review is not specific to the Pearl City location. I purchased for the first time, a heartworm and flea topical for my kitty. I decided to go through Petco as I love their products. I cannot believe Petco Pharmacy has an additional surcharge after taxes of $11.26 (not shipping) when ordering through their Pet pharmacy. I did more research and discovered ordering through 1800PetMeds who "live chatted" with me to confirm they do not have a surcharge. So, all you pay for is the product + taxes. Shipping is free if over $49.00, before taxes. Learned my lesson! read more

I bought some guppies here and by the time I walked out to my car one of them was upside down on the fresher side of death. When i took it back they asked me if I wanted to switch one out and I said sure. As I was leaving the worker said, you picked one that is $4.99 but the one you returned was $4.39 but for your inconvenience we'll just let you have the sixty cents. I thanked him for his generosity. Or so I thought. Later when I went back and checked the receipt the offending DOA fish was indeed already $4.99. Ya know...It's not the money that bugs me it's the fact that you sold me a dying fish which is kinda understandable (but troubling) but then you unapologetically tried to pitch it to me as if you were doing me a favor which ended up being no favor at all, just an inconvenience. Maybe for other stuff they're fine but perhaps be vigilant if you do consider buying fish here as there were TWO OTHER dying fish that i saw when I was picking the replacement for my original fish. read more

Needed to buy a lot of canned dog food for my senior (16 yr) canine, and this was one of the few local stores that carries the Solid Gold Leaping Waters food. Petco offered the best price, availability, and location for pickup, so I ordered 2 cases of food online. I was happy to see that they offer curbside pickup since it's such a hassle to bring my baby and toddler out of their car seats. The associate who brought out my order was kind and courteous. At the time I was feeling stressed out because my dog wasn't eating, but the experience really helped to reduce my stress and I'm happy to report that my dog is doing much better with her canned food. read more

Dropped my dog off at 11:15 per my appt. Got a phone call at 2:00 pm, Petco was performing construction on the roof that brought chemical scents into the grooming salon. I was told to pick my dog up asap. Picked her up and in 2 hour 45 minutes being there, all my dog got was a bath. Funny how I saw two dogs being worked on in the salon when I arrived. I talked to the manager and he repeated the standard line "safety for animals and staff" line. That's it. I walked away. Other businesses would at least try to make it right with a small discount voucher for inconvenience. I won't be back. read more

Occasionally get my dogs groomed here. They do everything head to tail here, from washes and cuts to anal gland expressions (lol). They're fairly priced. I brought in one of my dogs and he has never been groomed so he got a little snippy (I swear, he's not usually like this; don't judge me lol), but they stopped and didn't charge me for what they were able to do. Really appreciated this and left a tip for the groomer. They have a wide selection of dog foods, treats, and toys - well, for all animals, actually. They have clean up stations with napkins, bags, cleaning spray, and a trash bin set-up through out the store. Really appreciate this. You can make dog tags here! They even do pet adoptions here from time to time. And they have classes you can bring your animals too. read more

I wanted to share about one of the reasons why I continue to shop at Petco for my dog's needs. I usually my go to the Kaneohe and Pearl City for my pet's food, toys & treats. On 6/4/21 I had decided that I would visit the Pearl City location after work to look for a toy for my dog as she would have her 1st birthday the following day. Had to send a few texts before going in and while waiting for replies I shopped on the Petco app and found a few items I wanted. I decided to place the order since I had it in my basket. I went in and shopped around knowing that I would have to wait for the sales team to pick my order. That wasn't a problem because I always enjoy just browsing in the store. I found a few items and went to checkout with Cece who was so friendly and welcoming, he greeted with a nice smile in her eyes. I mentioned to Cece that I was also waiting on an order to be picked and so she went ahead to check on it. She got ahold of Tanya who had just started on the order. Tanya came over to talk to me and assured that she will make it a priority. Tanya finished up picking my order and was waiting for it to process. She knew that I had was headed somewhere after this so she took some information and said I could leave and she will ensure that the order is processed. This got my attention as it showed Tanya listened while talking to her customer! These two employees provided me with an outstanding experience and solidified why I choose Petco as my go to place for my dog's needs. I hope that this will be passed on to their supervisors so that they may be recognized for their excellent service and attitude. read more

This store is always clean and has ample parking. I like that there are cats you can adopt, even kittens sometimes. They have both fresh & salt water fish, turtles tortoises; and a bunch of tanks for beginners as well as tanks for more advanced fish owners, along with tons of accessories. I don't have any furry pets but I love to come here and look at everyone else's pets that come in for grooming or the cats up for adoption. The only thing I thought was a little weird, was a few months ago I came in and was telling a worker about all the dead fish in the tanks (there's always a few dead ones, no matter what pet store you go to), and he just stuck his hand in and started pulling them out. I have no idea what the protocol is for dead fish but that was the first I've seen . read more

Petco is awesome. Lots of things in here to buy for your little pet. It can get a little busy in here, with people running around with their pet and all the little kids coming in here to check out the pets for sale. Bought some dental stuff, collar, harness and snacks for my dog, I was scared the total was gonna come out to $100. I saw they have a program where you can sign up and get rewards, so I signed up. The clerk that had checked us out gave us a coupon book for their store, and helped us cut out a couple coupons for our items that we had purchased. To top it off, petco even takes military discount. My total came out under $60 and I could not be happier. I'm so happy the workers here are very friendly and very helpful. I love this Petco and I wouldn't go to any other Petco! Definitely going to look into take my dog to this Petco for a nail trim in the future :-) read more

When it's time for us to cut Ginger's nails we always go to Pearl City Petco even though Petco Kalihi is probably closer because we're located over at Salt Lake area. The service in this Petco is outstanding. We always get Ginger's nails done from Leilani and she does a marvelous job each time. Some people don't cut Ginger's nails enough and just buff it but she really makes sure they're cut properly. She also cleans her ears very thoroughly! Last time we got her ears cleaned with someone else, her ears were still dirty. Their whole staff is always nice and helpful. We've never been here on a Sunday so we were not ready for how busy it was. We usually go on weekdays so heads up if you're going on a Sunday! read more

I've been a loyal customer for over a decade, and I'm very disappointed to your workers not taking any actions regarding senior dogs' wellness certification. Back in June of this year, I brought 2 certificates for 2 dogs. The fur doctors released a certificate that 2 of my pups are okay for full grooming. On June 28th, the groomers apparently didn't update my pups profile, ages of the dogs especially, and didn't make a copy of the certificate as such. When I made my appt for my pups, they should at least remind me to bring the certificate again. I'm very disappointed about your service. I called to speak to the manager, but the cashier replied that the manager was busy taking my call. Instead, he talked to me instead, but we didn't resolve anything. No manager has called me back since then. We'll, you all just lost the service for years and to coming years. Communication ppl....that's all. Good Service makes customers come back. read more

Faith in Petco grooming has been restored all because of Christina A.!!! We used to go to the one in town because that's where we lived. Now that we live in Makaha, the search for even a decent groomer seemed impossible. My pup was traumatized with a 5 and a half hour endeavor at a different groomer so he hadn't been to a professional since December. I was going to attempt to groom him myself but having a delicate surgery was around the corner, so I thought "ok, we'll give the Pearl City location a go." Malu is a pure bred shih tzu, complete with hidden matts and skin allergies. I brush his hair and wash his face every day but he manages to knot up his man bun and chew the base of his tail- even got his face stuck in a bush of pokeys as I took him out to relieve himself before we got in the car for his appointment I guess he knew we were going to the groomers and got really nervous so he went #2 in the car ride there, not once, TWICE! I had to pull over on the hwy to clean up that mess(thank goodness I had put a blanket over the seat prior and had poop bags and wet ones on hand). It was a very stressful morning for both of us Christina was so gracious to listen to me ramble on about our journey and was empathetic. She gave Malu the works and completed EVERYTHING within 1 and a half hours. She even addressed the dreads growing out of his ears. That's unheard of! The last place wouldn't even go near his ears! He has never been out of grooming in less than 3 and a half hours let a alone 1 1/2. I was not expecting a job well done, I was excepting the lack of service and lack of expertise as I got the last two times elsewhere. Christina was up against some pretty crappy odds but she went above and beyond and did an AMAZING job!!! She was really friendly, personable and professional. Malu did not try to run away from her when she presented him to me which was a huge sign of how she handled him and I'm so grateful to her. Job well done Christina! 20 stars if a rating could go that high I hope she sticks around 'cause a good groomer is hard to find and because of Christina, we will be going back to Pearl City Petco for sure! read more

Petco is located near my house and they carry the limited ingredient brand of food I get for my cat due to her allergies although they do not offer the most competitive prices. Although I do not use grooming services at Petco, the grooming station is located at the entrance so it is inevitable that customers pass it on their way in and out of the store. The groomers who work at the station frequently stare and/or give dirty looks when we (my sister has noticed this too) pass on different occasions, which is unnecessary, rude, and definitely a deterrent to customers. If I could avoid walking past them to enter the store I would, but it is unavoidable. On one occasion we had an online order for pick-up when COVID restrictions were first put in place. We were told to pick up our items at the front of the store, but we didn't see any employees other than the ones at the grooming station there so we went to the register and they irritably directed us back to the front of the store and we still didn't notice anyone but the groomers at the front so we asked them about picking up online orders. Even before we approached them we noticed them staring at us irritably and the same attitude was maintained throughout our brief interaction with them. They then pointed at an employee walking near the front of the store and directed us to ask him. I am glad I am not in need of grooming for our cat and if I am I would not come to this location. read more
