Petco sucks!!!! Bought online for in store pick up. Did it when there was a good discount going on. Ordered it on Monday. I had 5 days to pick it up. When there on Friday 1/03/2020 which was my last day before they would cancel my order to pick it up but they had a blackout and couldn't do anything. A worker told me to call customer service to get an extension which the worker said they would do. Called customer service and they told me to call the store and they should give me an extension. Every time I called they kept telling me to call the other. I'm done with that sh*t. F**k you to the workers at Pearlcity Petco and F**k you to petco customer service. You all can s**k my d**k. Not much to say. It's a clean store and helpful staff. The only thing I didn't like is the grooming department does not allow nail trim appointments first thing in the morning like the other one we used to go to on the other side of the island as well as San Diego. Overall, their staff tries to be friendly. Which is good I guess. The only real issue I have constantly, (which I brought up on more than one occasion) is that their crickets are counted incorrectly. I bought 2 plastic containers of crickets, both saying there was 40 in each. Ok 80 total right? WRONG. I only had 52 crickets total. TOTAL. They have really good deals for crickets at other businesses, like Moanalua Pets. And the Hawaii Feed store, so I started going there instead. Cause at least they know how to count to 100! I don't come here as often as I used to only because my dog is on a holistic diet due to a medical condition, but several years back I frequented Petco to buy anything from dog food to toys. Because of the potential hurricane headed to the Islands, I decided to get a dog tag with our cell phone numbers on it even though our dog is already microchipped. If I hadn't procrastinated then I probably would've been able to buy a cute dog tag online but oh well. Thanks to Yelp, I discovered that Petco had custom dog tags. I purchased a dog tag with the ability to engrave on both sides (~$9 & comes with a ring to attach it) and followed the machines instructions to engrave. It took less than 10 minutes! Unfortunately, the tag I purchased only had one font option but apparently certain tags have more font options. The sales associate informed me that you won't know the options until you purchase the tag and put it in the engraving machine. Petco is willing to return the tag if you don't like the fonts offered. I'm satisfied with my self service, customized dog tag - it serves its purpose! Another reason why I like Petco is because they price match their online website! About a week ago, I had bought a booster seat for my pup from Petco Kapolei. Unfortunately, not all of the parts were provided in the box & it obviously did not work properly. I did not want to drive back to Kapolei to exchange the seat for a new one, so I decided to give the Pearl City location a call. I didn't have as much hope from the start due to the fact that I lost my receipt and did not have a Petco account to have a digital copy. I took my dog to the Petco groomers in Pearl City yesterday. I felt more sad & sorry for my dog than anger. But now, it's starting to settle in and I feel so upset that I am writing this review for everyone. Do not take your dogs to this grooming service. Yes, I've heard a lot of horror stories but still gave Petco the benefit of the doubt because the first time we went, I thought they did a good job n they were nice. This time was our 2nd time. And look what they've done to my dog!! I received a phone call about 2 hrs into grooming informing me that they have "scratched" him. She wanted to know if I want to come in and take a look before she continues. It did not sound like a big deal so I told her to finish up and I'll take a look at it then. When she was done, she called me and told me now that "scratch" is opening up and that I'll need to take him to the vet. I could not grasp the severity of it b/c she sounded like it wasn't a big deal. I finally get there to see that his skin was cut/shaven off! I could see flesh! Again, she continues to describe like it's no big deal, that the vet will probably just put some glue on it and it'll be ok. Another petco worker (not a groomer), must have been the store manager, was there also apologizing n giving me info about their vet. Im trying to get directions and/or the address so he brings out the vets business card which wasn't for me to keep but just to show me. That card was soooo worn! Makes me think, how many times have they had to refer their clients to the vet?! My grooming fee was waived n took my dog to their vet (Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital) which the bill will be billed directly to Petco. Finally saw the vet n my poor dog, he had to get stitches! Stitches!!! After having to put neosporin on him 2x a day, and seeing him flinch, whimper, cry, and in pain, it just breaks my heart and makes me sooo upset that this even happened! Never again will we be taking our dog to ANY of the petco grooming services. We normally shop here for our dog's food, toys, shampoo, essentials, etc. But we will not be shopping here either. I need some time to figure out Petco.......... First of all, it is a national chain of stores. Ok, I get that. So why are all the products (besides the sale items) inflated in price? I really don't understand that at all. Second, there seems to be some kind of coldness about the place. I am not sure if it is the utter HUGE size of the store, the few employees, or the Wal-de-mart feel of it but there is a certain cold feeling there. Third, there is a special club called the "Petco Pals". Which the employees say is absolutely free. For some reason, I don't believe them, but when I went to the website it says free. I dunno cause the offers that they give you cannot be overall "free". Nothing is free. Fourth, which is their saving grace, they have some very good deals on tropical freshwater fish. If you are interested in the "regular" fare of fish, then you are in luck. They also have a large selection of dog toys and other things that you may not find at every pet store. Anyways, the jury is still somewhat out Petco. I will be back to find some way to give you more stars. After my first 5 visits, you are an A-OK to me. read more

We whole heartedly recommend the free puppy playtime socializing sessions Petco offers just not at Pearl city. We owe a lot of our dog's incredible socializing progress to their quality Puppy Playtime sessions at the Kapolei location, so due to this week's cancellations at Kapolei we decided to try Pearl City. The trainer handling the session, Aurora, did not give the quality attention or expertise that we were used to. She wasn't engaging or giving positive reinforcement and didn't step in to separate engagements where the other location would have to help not just the dogs to feel safe but their owners as well. There was a vaccination event taking up the space it's supposed to be held in, so the playtime setup was moved into a much smaller confined space that doesn't allow the safe breathing room dogs need to disengage bad interactions. Although this should have been made up by the trainer intervening, we almost never saw her get in between the pups to give them breaks as necessary resulting in much more aggressive and defensive behavior that could have been remedied. The circumstances were not ideal and you would expect a greater effort to compensate. It would have been a better call to cancel the session instead of allowing for poor conditions and an equally poor effort. We've frequented Puppy Playtime at the Kapolei location where the trainers ensure the pups are safe and comfortable in their environment before letting them interact. They are incredibly attentive to stopping detrimental interactions while explaining what makes the behaviors appropriate or inappropriate. read more

I just became a mommy :) to my cavalier king charles spaniel and i just love him to death!!!! I never expected myself to be those pet lovers who spoils their dog rotten but don't judge me until you get your own four legged child then you will know exactly what I'm talking about... So moving on ( I know i got side tracked) when I first went to PETCO I adored how they had these little mini carts for your pet to sit in while you shop around, believe me I have lots of pictures of my little one in that cart :) What really won be over was how friendly the staff were and how easy it was to look for merchandise. I have a slight case of germaphobia but being there I didn't feel out of my element, the isle were clean and stocked and it was just a breeze shopping there. I also have to give praise to their Grooming service because they handled my furry son very well, when I took him to get his nails cut he wasn't really cooperating and I went in after 5 so there were only one groomer left for the day and she was the sweetest person and my little fella was not having it so she had to call for backup and it ended up being the store manager helping her. After they cut his nails I could see the store managers whole arm was scratched up, poor thing despite all his tattoos I could see the reams of scratches on his arms, I was shocked and felt embarrassed but they reassured me that it was okay, the groomer and the manager still treated my doggie like their own despite the incident and suggested that I come in before 5 when they have a full staff because of how anxious he gets. If you are really looking for great customer service and you don't have time to spend all day at a pet store you need to go to PETCO Pearl City where everything is easy to find and NEAT!!!! and did I mention it doesn't have that stinky smell like how other pet shops have! read more

Sometimes I get a negative vibe at the one in town. Anyway, my mom brings her dog here a lot to get groomed and she never had a complaint once & her dog always seems to like it as well. Which is saying something because he doesn't really like strangers. This location is a perfect distance from my house & I always find exactly what I need. I usually don't need help because I've been here so many times I know where everything is but I once asked for advice on dog food for my puppy ( who is now 1 year old) and the sales worker was very informative &et me know which was best for my dog because she was a larger breed. They're always looking for stuff like bleach, Clorox wipes, paper towels, diswashing soap, laundry detergent. Their "luxury wish list" includes cat scratching posts, kitty condos & kitty towers. JFF has its main shelter/cattery in Kane'ohe which has about 300 other popoki (cats & kittens) available for adoption as well. ------------ I'm a huge proponent of "buying local" and supporting kama'aina businesses, but I give MAJOR, MAJOR props to PETCO for providing local no-kill organizations with the opportunity to set up these small adoption centers in their stores in Pearl City & Kapolei. I am glad that a big pet center opened up in Hawaii, we were way overdue for one. As a big animal lover, I've had about every pet that is legal to have here in Hawaii. When I tell my little guy, Muppet, that we are going to PETCO to buy dog food, he gets very very excited. He gets a lot of attention when he comes, and he gets to sniff all kinds of trees outside and comes in to have a few samples at the bark snack bar. PETCO offers foods for many varieties of animals. There are so many brands of dog food here too. I buy a grain free brand for Muppet since he gets itchy sometimes. I have also bought his shampoos, collars, leashes, toys and a set of buzz clippers for him here. I like to look at the turtles and parrots when I'm here. I wish I had time for a parrot. When I first got Muppet from the shelter, we came here to get cleaned up at the groomers. They are kind of pricey, hence the clippers purchase. I've been grooming him myself ever since. Tiffany is our groomer and she does an exceptional job in all areas from customer service to the way she takes care of our dog Teddy from head to tail. She is friendly, kind, patient and understanding when Teddy is afraid to go inside. I make an appointment monthly and have been sending out 1 year old Bassett Hound for about 8 months now and have always received outstanding service from Tiffany and the groomers at Pearl City Petco. He goes for a bath, nail trimming, brushing and ear cleaning all of which have been done safely and without any problems or concerns. Sending your dog to Tiffany is like sending him/her to a family member and you can have peace of mind that your dog will be treated that way. Petco is a great place to buy things for your pets. Food, toys, shampoo, everything. Why only 2 stars you may ask. Petco has a grooming center for people who don't want to/have no time to/can't physically clean their pets. Usually it's very good. A little back story: My dog is a very sweet and friendly dog. He is very playful and always has a smile on his face. He used to like being scratched around his ears. However, he is very shy and timid around people he doesn't know. Basically, if you weren't around him as he grew up, he wasn't comfortable around you. We took him to petco several times. Obviously, he was nervous. My family took him more than I did. I only took him twice. The first time I went, he had gone several times. I dropped him off and (he's still nervous to go) he was dragging himself to not to in the room. The girl who took him in was really tugging him. But I'm not a professional so who am I to say anything? I picked him up later that day and I saw the same girl with this "I hate my job" angry look on her face. Everything she did, she did aggressively. My dog ran to me as soon as she opened the door and she basically tossed me his leash. That was some time ago. Now-a-days, he's aggressive to people he doesn't know (VERY heard to introduce new people to him), he gets made at me sometimes and every time I scratch his ears he lets out a loud cry. Like I just hit him or something. The second and last time I went I found out he was "black-listed" (my term not theirs) and couldn't go again. I think that girl really messed up my dog. If those are the kind of people they hire to take care of other peoples pets, then I'd rather wash my dog myself and save $40. They are lucky they even got 2 stars. read more

Ordered an item online with pickup in store. This item was easy to order and ordering online means a 10% discount! But then it went downhill after that. There were two more items that I wanted to order. One said it wasn't available at this location. The other said "low availability" and call to check. Since it was easier to just look for the items, I got in the car when my online order item was ready (early the next day). There were two of the "not available" items and SIX of the "low availability" item!!!! So I tried to order the low availability item on my phone right there in the store. Nope the Petco app wouldn't let me. I grabbed the items and went to pay for them. I explained the situation and the person at the register nonchalantly said "the inventory is off and you can't order low availability items on the app." I mentioned that I can't get the online discount because of the "inventory being off" and he just shrugged his shoulders. Try prancing your friends they might think its stale and if they ask where you bought it just say from a bakery shop and lie about it. If they ask how you made it and you lied you made it they might never come to your house again to eat with you. The cat adoption is from 1 to 6 on Saturdays and 1 to 4 on Sundays. Not on weekends because you can be a assistant there. A lady there is one she is great! Gives you good expiations about where the cat was found. The dog adoptions is from 12 to 4 or 5. Good people but bad at what personalities the dogs are. I asked a question about the dog they gave me a wrong answer. We retuned that dog I was so sad couldn't say by to her she was cheerful but she pees all over the house when she's to excited! She told me she wouldn't groom based on my fur baby's nails and that her paw fir was long. She told me to go to a vet. I have brought Shih Tsu's to Petco for over 10 years. Yeah, they're kinda pricey on certain items, but they also carry only the best of the best for your pet (if you can afford it, otherwise you can buy the worst of the worst for cheap)! Their selection of toys are proven not to be harmful and they even have food that is guaranteed organic, natural, and/or grain-free for your pet. I also love the wide variety of pet treats they carry, it's like a never-ending conveyor belt of sushi! Just when you think there couldn't possibly be more possibilities, they throw a live orca at you! Because my landlord/roomy's dog has skin issues (and I'm taking care of them while she's gone), I get grain-free food for her since it is proven to cause less skin irritation. And since my landlord/roomy's bird needs specific toys to prevent him choking on small objects, I know that I can trust Petco to provide me with safe toys (although he broke a mirror toy once and kept picking up the shards cause he thought they were pretty, ugh). They also have great programs here for adoptions and other services. They let Joey's Feline Friends set up house in the front with 15 cages for their adoptable kitties (and for which I am a volunteer of every Sunday morning! Come 'round and visit me and the kitties!), they let the Hawaii Dog Foundation set up an adoption table every Sunday from 12-2pm, they have Petco Obedience Training in the back of the store at designated times throughout the week, they have the grooming service up front that you must make an appointment for, and they even offer pet photography...whatever that means. Haha, better go get your pet their HEADSHOTS for Glamour Magazine! Their hours are Mon-Sat 9am-9pm, and then Sunday 10am-7pm. If you would like to get your doggie a little treat before you leave the store, then I would definitely recommend the "choose-your-own" treats by the cash registers. You can get as many as you want (meaning if you don't want a giant bag of expensive treats you can buy just one instead) and it will literally be less then a quarter. I bought two little, green "good for teeth" treats once and the total was 21 cents. 21 cents! Now where else in the world are you gonna find anything for less then a quarter!? I will only take my dog to get groomed and his nails cut at this location now! The workers are so kind and welcoming. We live in mililani and we've tried petsmart in mililani and they were EXTREMELY rude. The kapolei petco location was our go to because SOME workers were nice on SOME days. But the workers were ALL so sweet at this location! Vanessia especially! She was patient with our scaredy cat dog. He kept trying to run away and he cries like a baby. But she never shown any irritation, she was amazing! I would've like his nails buffed a little more but my dog is pretty difficult so it's probably hard to get them extremely smooth. But the customer service was so great here, this will be our go to! read more

Although this place can be a little expensive, it's a good place to go for quality dog toys (toys that can survive a year old dog - toy destroyer) and dog treats. My dog has food allergies and can, so far, only eat Science Diet food and treats. The location is very convenient and it's nice to know you can bring your dog inside (since there really no stores that allow dogs elsewhere). The staff is really nice and always come over and asks if you need help looking for something. They offer to give your pets a snack and are really nice about when your dog has an accident on the floor. Bring a reusable bag when you're shopping as they don't give bags here, which is fine, saves the planet. The 2 for $5 toys are surprisingly durable and so far have lasted the longest with my dog. GROOMING: I would give 0 stars if I could. First, I showed up to the 6pm appointment with my dog and child after battling H1 traffic. Come to find out, the groomer assigned to my dog failed to call me that she wasn't coming to work that day. They literally had all day to notify me. Second, they required me to get vet approval due to my dogs age (she's 14 but in extremely good health) so I did and came with all paperwork in hand. One lady leaned across the check in desk to tell me how energetic my dog looked, but was "so sorry" that they actually can not reschedule me solely due to my dogs age and the mild arthritis in one hip (she can run, walk, jump, sit lay.. everything required for grooming). Wasted my time waiting weeks for this apt when my dog could have gotten groomed elsewhere AND it was my sweet doggies birthday. Thanks Petco. read more

First of all how can you take appointments over the phone and then to be turned away at the door after I drove from Mililani to come here. They said it's cuz I wrapped her head and they are taking precautions. They didn't even look at the ear where she scratched herself!!! Bought a cat tree for our two cats. We felt the younger one was depressed after we got rid of an old rickety one about a year ago. We weren't sure whether she would like this one or not. The sale went smoothly. We asked someone for help and three service people showed up to take the box down from the high shelf! We actually saw this one that wasn't displayed and we're glad we did. It was on sale for $259 too. They loaded into our car. I set it up very quickly. Just twist the parts on and insert some screws. Took about a half hour. All the tools (2) are included. Horrible customer service today as I tried to take my Pomeranian in for her usual furcut. First off, the worker insisted that I re-schedule because my dog was whining. I insisted it was fine (she always whines before furcuts, so a reschedule due to that reason would be pointless). She told the groomer that her next dog was there, but the groomer was clearly still working with another dog and appeared stressed. The front desk worker asked me what I want. I wanted a shorter, teddy bear cut and she said my dog needed "scissor-work" done. After showing her a picture of the teddy bear furcut, she said it would be clippers with attachments. I said that was fine. She came around and put her choker harness on my Pom. After she (not a groomer) examined my dog, I was told my Pom would need to be shaved, which would risk damaging her undercoat. And this would cost me an additional $7/15 minutes on top of the already pricey services I scheduled online. At this point I got frustrated and told her I would reschedule (I probably won't). She immediately took her choker harness off my Pom before I even had the chance to grab her or put my harness on her. My fast little Pom almost escaped! I had to ask her not to remove her harness before I had ahold of my dog. On my way out, she mentioned that when I reschedule, the next person will probably tell me the same thing about the undercoat. So for this frustrating, waste-of-time experience, I give my grooming experience today one star. I'd give zero if I could do that on Yelp. Last time I came here, the worker was incredibly kind, professional, well-educated on the Pomeranian undercoat, and an overall talented groomer. I give her and my last experience five stars. I really wish I got her name and schedule so I could only have her as a groomer. I also wish I could give more stars, but my average rating is three stars. read more

Brought the dog I was fostering in for a cut. He got the okay from the vets and has been on meds for over a week. I told Kaci not to touch his ears, they've already been cut. She then went on to let me know that they don't take dogs that have any redness or infections. I wouldn't have wasted my time if this was something that was written during the process of booking. I dropped off my dog and got the same cut and buff as usual. Only thing different this time is there was a staff member yelling at a barking dog to shut up. She then turns and yells at my dog right in her face. She wasn't even barking! She was crying because she hates getting her nails done. I always had great experiences with Petco all these years, but today changed that. I called this morning to see if I could bring my chihuahua in for a nail clipping. She was hesitant so I said she's been there many times before and it's just for a nail clipping (5 minutes tops). She then said, we're booked for today, can you come tomorrow? I said no I work tomorrow. She said sorry. I said thank you and hung up. I have never experienced such poor service and her unwillingness to try to accommodate. I could have come in at anytime, even later in the day or evening. They don't close until 7:00. I'm looking for another pet groomer. I wish I had gotten her name. read more

If you want to look for a cat house, DON'T GO HERE. I went to this store an hour before closing just to look for the perfect house. And when I found one, it was up on the top shelf. A worker in a blue shirt passed by; but when I tried to walk after him and ask for his help, he kept walking while being on his phone. I looked all around inside of the store for somebody to assist me, but nobody else except a worker in a red shirt. I asked her for help and in response she said she will have someone else to help me with that. 5 minutes passed by and nobody came. The woman in red saw us still waiting but still walked past behind us. That was when me and my partner had to get it ourselves with one of the bird toys. We used to go here more than once, but now that will be our last time to shop at that store. Unhelpful customer service. There was no assistance when a customer needed it. read more

Petco Pearl City is my go to place for pot grooming. Erisa at the grooming center has taken care of my 2 dogs for 4 years now. They absolutely adore her and look forward to every visit. They come home smelling wonderful and full of excitement. Not only does it help with your animals overall appearance, but it also mitigates the amount of cleaning you have to do around your house. The staff at Petco is always ready and willing to help. I'm not a shopper, but can honestly say I dont hesitate to visit any Petco.
