Petco really needs to step up their game across LA and this one is no exception. It's not a bad store for the most part and they have most of the things I need in stock. However, the parking. It's not a big lot and it's angled weird too and for some inexplicable reason they are ALWAYS blocking the main entrance on Doheny. Be it with a bunch of pallets (why why why) or a delivery truck. It's insanely annoying. Like your parking lot blows to begin with and then you basically drive customers away by doing a shitty job of organizing your deliveries. I almost always go after work at around 5PM and that seems to be the time where they love to block the parking lot. So stupid. So yeah, basically screw this location. It's not worth the traffic and the hassle of even getting into the lot. Frankly, now that Petsmart has started carrying the brands I like, I much more inclined to go to them. The stores are cleaner and newer and I feel like they try harder for the customers. read more

After I made my purchase the guy at the cash register just gives me a blank stare as though I'm bothering him?!?!?! The people that work her are always very friendly and helpful. There's a small parking lot that is difficult to get in and out of, and they don't have the best selection because it's a smaller store. However, they do have a grooming department, and a pretty decent aquatic section. I have now purchased three fish from them. We won't talk about the sad fate that met Little Richard and Kamikazi, but I'm sure my brand new beta, Balthazar will fare better. UPDATE: ok so Balthazar is now dead, and this has completely devestated my faith in purchasing fish at this Petco. So very sad. RIP Balthazar. read more

Were not coming back here for grooming anymore, which is a shame because the location is so convenient. They're unprofessional and it's like they don't even care about animals. Made an appointment for full grooming, I bring in my dog any they tell me they only booked ten minutes for a nail trim but I could leave him there and they could get to him in a few hours. No, I don't want my dog barking in a kennel for hours so we'll go somewhere else. Mistakes happen, so we come back two weeks later for a nail trim. An hour later I'm still sitting in the store waiting for a call or then to announce my dog is ready on the intercom, like they do every time. No call, no intercom announcement, so I go in to see why it's taking so long. My dogs been sitting in a kennel waiting for me, barking his cute little head off. They said they didn't have my number even though it's his 10th nail trim and we come every two weeks, and they always call. Even if they didn't have my number they could announce on the intercom like they always do. Some people might be fine to have their dog sit miserable barking in a kennel but not me. All I can say is, DON'T DO IT. I've used their grooming department before, when a girl was there that had an older dog, as do I. But I made the mistake of leaving two of my dogs there for most of the day, even though there was no sight of the same girl. My normally über happy indefatigable 9 year old dog was severely depressed for about 18 hours after her session. My 11 y/o Chow Chow came home with the same tangles in her tail and oily hair on her shoulders. And they told me they would use a rinse for any dead undercoat, but they failed to tell me that rinse would cost me an additional $28!!!! Nothing is worth the sadness my dogs exhibited after their bath!!! I will never go back. read more

Great location but otherwise, this place is a total mess. Literally, as it's cluttered and dirty, the back part of the store looks like a serial killer's garage. Usually, the treats are picked clean but other times they are overflowing with no prices. The grooming area is cramped. Most of the time it looks like the inexperienced groomers are afraid of the dogs. They don't want you to watch them groom. I've seen several dogs fall off the tables with the restraints around their necks. The parking kit is helter skelter too, with cars coming from all directions and poor space markings. Its also a mess due to some of the most unhelpful staff around. They all act like deeer in headlights - like they are filling in for someone and don't want to be bothered before they are back. It's unfortunate that a major chain like this lets the WeHo location resemble something out of the third world. We have only been in the city for over a year now and are now looking for other options. read more

To get the groomers at this place to spruce up my dog seems to be a bigger chore than actually bathing and clipping the dog myself. You may think you were asking the people at the grooming department to be exposed to Polonium poisoning or, the Ebola virus. It does not matter that management can't keep anyone working in there long enough for you to get to know and be appreciative of their work. The only thing that seems to remain consistent is their reluctance to work in anything bigger than a toy poodle. My dog is a sweetheart who loves to be groomed, fully cooperative and tame. On 11/14/20 I took my dog for grooming perfectly healthy, they took more than four hours to finish it, but then I found out why, before they let me see my dog, they send me to pay the bill, ever I tip them in cash, but when I saw my dog the grooming was very bad, I have a cock-a-tzu, but that was not the worst, my dog was not able to open his eyes!! and literally he has his eyes very bumpy like a frog, all red, watering and unable to open it, my dog was in pain, I understand than eventualities might happen during the grooming, but they are required to notify the owner immediately if something goes wrong and stop the grooming or ask authorization to continue, they did not, and now even that they tried to hide it from me, they do not even comment me a word about what was happening, I came back from their parking to the salon in a few minutes and I notice thru the window that even some employees went to the back area when they saw me approaching towards the store again, unprofessional and cowardly, I inquired about situation and I was told that maybe only an eyelash in his eyes, I took my dog and started find vet help, was Saturday night, by 6 pm my dog was in terrible pain, looking terrible, he is usually very energetic but he laid down looking miserable and sad and he just wanted to be with his eyes closed, the emergency Vet told us my dog has terrible ulcers in his eyes and now he has to be under treatment and wearing collar all the time, I spent already $360 in Vet and prescriptions for my dog, plus their "grooming" service and tips, until now I am not sure yet if my pet will be fine, Petco treated my dog just like easy money, I have not idea what they did, but obviously they did not treat my pet with care, so I repeat, I know events can happen, but being so unprofessional and unsensitive and coward and not reporting the issue to me as soon as they noticed it, trying to hide the circumstances, don't being honest, inviting me to pay first and do not tell me anything, is making me pass as an idiot and I am not. not even an apology for their terrible service, I will use your services NEVER again, I am already telling some people I know that uses your services my experience. read more

Andrew Ramirez is the MANAGER of this store and i came home to my poor aunt extremely upset due to interactions with this man along with another woman who seemed to be working as his assistant. My aunt was on time for an apppointment she confirmed THREE times via text email and phone call..however when she arrived the employees were close to 45 minutes LATE. Only for Andrew the MANAGER to scream at her that he drove all the way from Lancaster.. While my aunt didn't fight with him to begin with- she expressed that she understood he came a long way but maybe should work closer to home so it's not such an inconvenience and suggested they calm down before handing her beloved rescue dog to have him groomed- which at that point Andrew refused to service her at all. This is honestly unfathomable and completely unprofessional, disrespectful and incomprehensible that a business in one of the biggest cities that especially caters to dogs would allow such management to ensue. My aunt is writing a letter to the president of the company but I wanted to make sure no other locals have the same traumatizing and nasty experience with Andrew or his assistant who furthermore also played a roll in making this situation one of the worst she's ever had as a customer in any industry. read more

Then the older short hair woman with glasses is always rude or cold. She has horrible customer service skills and very little knowledge of the products in her store. STORE: This store has a good selection. Although some common items that you can get at a Target or a Ralphs is pricier here, going to this store is necessary to get less common stuff. Other positives about this location is that the employees are friendly and the store hosts pet adoption fairs on the weekends. GROOMING: When I used to live nearby, I would take my cat here to get her claws trimmed. It cost $10 and they always did a good job. One time my cat soiled herself so I brought her here for a cat bath, which cost $60. I thought the price was high, but Petco did a great job so I was happy in the end and really, who wants to wash a poopy cat? read more

I continue to come here since it's close to my house and it seems to be worse with almost every visit. I have a toad that has some pretty simple demands, he wants crickets. Petco sometimes has the crickets in a box which you have to inspect closely because most of the time they are all dead or very close to dead. Most other pet stores put a date in permanent market noted the day they arrived so you can know how fresh your food is. Petco clearly doesn't because they would be a month old I fear. The next struggle poses a bigger problem at this place, I need a retail associate to *gasp* do some work for me. The other way to get food for my poor toad is to ask them to bag some crickets for me in the back room. Other pet stores allow you to do this in the retail lobby but Petco has deemed this too hard for Beverly Hills intellects. I have waited 10 minutes, 20+ minutes, and left after 20 minutes before getting my bag of 20 crickets. My best approach is to now just head to the cashier and ask for the item. They yell on the microphone and maybe someone will do it, normally them putting in the request via radio takes 3-6 times before someone shows up. The act of doing the work takes 5 seconds at best, come on people. Every employee on the floor I ever asked would tell me okay and then go do something else. It's frustrating and at least reading the other negative reviews of this place I know they just don't hate me, they suck all around. read more

Having two large dogs, I need a place with good selection and competitive prices is priority one. For this Petco is a good place to find the essentials. Here's why... 1) Petco is registered with most scanning apps for your smartphone. If you scan the product, it will show you the best prices in the area 2) While prices may not be the cheapest at Petco, they remain competitive through coupons and their customer loyalty program (after buying 10 bags of food, the 11th is free!) 3) Petco has decent customer service - when I've called asking if they have something, they gladly check and will even hold it for me at the front of the store 4) Even though I haven't had to use the other services, it's nice to know they're there in a bind 5) Location, location, location - they're located at Santa Monica and Doheny - a main thoroughfare that makes it convenient if you happen to pass by often Like other big-box stores, this one makes shopping for basic pet supplies fairly effortless, convenient, and competitive. I've been shopping here for years. Most of the folks working here are pleasant and helpful. One older woman, though, is always incredibly rude. I'm polite and friendly, I'm organised at checkout (Petco card & payment in my hand, purchases organised, reusable bag ready). There's no reason why she has to bark at me EVERY TIME I come in. She did it again today. There were 2 checkers, one was helping a customer, she was in front of the counter talking to the other checker. I wasn't sure if that checker was on duty or not due to that. Rude woman yells at me 'are you ready?' (I'm the ONLY PERSON IN LINE!) 'Then come on!' Unbelievably hostile. I should say, she treats everyone this way. I've never seen her be polite to any customer. First of all let me start by saying that I love Petco and everything for my pets come from Petco, food for our fishes, we bought our fishes there 1 yr ago and they are still here, we buy dog food for 2 dogs we buy treats, basically anything we need BUT it's usually from La Brea store or Beverly. At La Brea store we have a groomer for our blue nose/lab and Ernesto is fond of her as much as she is of him she's always treated nicely, I mean you can tell. And I can't complain about his customer service. Then it's my poodle, he's a miniature he's only 6 months old, this is were things get real, he has his groomer at the Beverly store Chris, he's a nice human he's a caring professional for dogs and his customer service is A+, but he had called off on our appt and I needed them to both get groomer that same Wednesday (we have kids and a busy schedule) so la Brea was booked and I wasn't trying to go back home with 2 dogs and 3 kids and had accomplished nothing, this store on Doheny was taking in more dogs. So we go to this store. I walked in a little earlier than my appointment, ok they say it's ok as what kind of cut for my poodle I said half off is fine. They take him and take my big dog in too. There was no how are you? No hey dogs blah blah blah it was simply and basic they didn't ask any thing about the dogs. One of the guys took him in the other checked the signature and I was the one to ask, hey do you guys shave his private area? And will you cut his - cut me off and said we will take care of your pup. I immediately got a weird vibe, I'm very attached to my poodle as he is a puppy still.... I had this feeling I couldn't help, but maybe I was being dramatic.... They call me 1 hour and 45 mins later to tell me they're done I was like what! No way that was fast it's usually 2 hours or 2 1/2 ok cool. I go with my husband he gets the dogs I go pay they told us that my poodle was not letting himself get groomed and he was complicated. Again a little off because the previous time with Chris my poodle did just fine. The strangest thing was that my dog kept crying as I was trying to find him a harness my poodle never does that. And our big dog is always so playful and on the ride home she just looked sad .. what dog looks sad when out for a ride? I get on the car I check my poodle his ears are dirty! His extra nail wasn't cute maybe because rude boy didn't hear me and he missed it. And his face hair was chopped off.. maybe they just used a clipper but it was chopped off. And he had an uneven cut on the top of his head. His ears still had long uneven hair. I should have complained or taken him back but the environment there told me it's not worth my time. I regret to have taken my dogs there. I don't ever wanna go back I need to learn to be patient I guess. Lesson well learned I ended up taking Miloh back to Christopher on Thursday I told him our story and he spoke to his manager, he wanted to bath him and all but I was pleased with a simple fix. Chris is so nice and even if I annoy him with my requests he plays it off well because I could never tell, he genuinely cares about dogs and the dogs owners comfort. And that to me is a plus. He took Miloh and he fixed his uneven hairs and his face hairs also cleaned his ears and cut his extra nail and filed him down for me. Not to forget Chris actually did the 7 point check I think it's called that. So all I'm saying is if my dog was hard to control and all why is it that Christopher cleaned his ears plucked his hairs in his ears and cut his face hairs all in 30 minutes? read more

Here to update on this experience. I did receive a call from the GM, not sure if they saw the survey I completed or my yelp review. She was very nice and understanding. It seemed like she actually care and didn't just call because she had to. She offered a full refund, which I told her I didn't need, because my pup looks great and the money wasn't the problem. She insisted, though. She said she was going to handle the situation and call me back to see what they could do for me. I never heard back, but just the fact that I was called and actually listened to was all I really wanted. Hopefully they corrected the employees behavior. I won't return back to this location while he is still there, but I don't hold it against the company as a whole. read more

My wife and I have been Petco customers for years and they have always been great. However, this weekend was our dogs birthday and the grooming department really went above and beyond. I just wanted to say thank you and make it known that these guys really kick ass and Love what they do. I just need to make a comment as to a miracle product that all cat owners should buy for indoor cats. I bought munchkin - my crazy little kitty - a collar at petco with a bell on it because she loves to hide and this way I can always hear her. One day after moving to a new place munchkin gets outside and doesn't come home for 4 days. On day 4 I am a complete mess. I go to kinkos to make flyers, and before I post them I have one cigarette and tell myself if kitty comes home i'll never have another one. I begin posting and all the sudden I hear the little bell.
