Who doesn't love a good treat on sunny days? I stopped in here to try the Dubai Gelato. They were advertising it with a huge sign outside. I ordered it but they were out of strawberries. So, I used the black berry sorbet as a substitute. Customer service was basic. I would've have expected them to offer the desert with some sort of discount since technically they didn't have all the ingredients. Nevertheless, it was still tasteful. I also liked the complimentary chocolate covered popcorn. They offer an array of treats but are very pricey. The "non" experimental Dubai Gelato (calling it that because it was missing the real ingredient) was $16 alone. I don't recall seeing prices listed and hasn't prepared for that. Gelato means frozen in Italian and it was somewhat a hot afternoon so I got myself a chocolate dipped cone with 2 scoops of chocolate and coffee flavored ice cream for $8.50 and it is so delicious! Parking was easy, the store very organized and very chill environment with the awesome service from Olivia-I bet it is tough working here with all the sweet treats :) read more

Thanks to Peterbrooke I saved Valentine's Day. My mom really wanted some chocolate-covered strawberries but the ones she bought for herself last year ended up being soggy and mushy inside and ended up throwing them away disappointingly. This year I wanted to get her some different ones that aren't trash. Enter Peterbrooke. I heard people saying how their strawberries were the best and also read news stories about how they start dipping them 5:30 in the morning specifically for Valentines Day customers. Wow. I had to go. I pulled up and stepped inside and sure enough, the place was busy and lotsa guys buying the strawberries. I grabbed some dark chocolate ones and looked around the shop: Chocolate letters, dipped Oreos, even sugar free chocolate and chocolate wine bottles. I also grabbed a pail of dark chocolate items for my mother and checked out. My mother was excited to receive the strawberries and tried one, much to her delight. I was happy she enjoyed it and I will definitely consider them for all my chocolate needs in the future. read more

There are many Peterbrooke Chocolatier stores in town (10, I believe?) but this one is my favorite. It's tucked into downtown San Marco into a small storefront, but don't let the size deceive you. They have so many things in here! First off, when you walk in the door, you encounter a lovely smell of chocolate. It's not strong, it's more like the lingering perfume of a scent you never want to go away. It's not enough to make your stomach growl (thankfully) but it does whet ones appetite. Secondly, after that first whiff of heaven, you are greeted by one of the workers. Everyone that I have encountered at this store has been very pleasant, helpful, and never overbearing. While I love the high quality chocolate here, I'm a bigger fan of their caramel corn. I don't know exactly what is in it that makes it so fantastic, but it is the best in the whole wide world. I should mention that the prices are premium, but with the fabulous quality here, it is literally worth every penny. These are not grocery store chocolates, they are some of the best in the world! read more

Three cheers for Andi and Melissa who fixed my [Peterbrooke] life today! The hubs and I sauntered in to stock up on chocolate covered popcorn (of course) gifts for his players in Arkansas. The girls took great care of us per usual! As with every visit, the experience was a customer service WIN, but today, I was catapulted into a new level of fandom! Yes, I am a Peterbrooke fan and loyalist, however in all my shopping, I'd never come across the knowledge of their rewards program that allows you to earn points for each dollar spent and redeem them (once you hit 50) on free items! Andi (store manager) put me in the game today, and not only that, she made up for my last two visits! I just love it when customer service is KING! A great chocolate shop. Friendly service and yummy products. I was particularly impressed by their signature chocolate popcorn. It's almost covered in chocolate, not just drizzled on. Peterbrooke is by far Jacksonville's best chocolatier, hands down. The chocolate is simultaneously creamy and smooth and sweet and rich and light and all in all delicious. They have many locations all over town, but this location in particular is great for its proximity to many restaurants and shops in San Marco Square. Go catch a movie at the San Marco Theater and dip into Peterbrooke [if you see a movie early enough before they close!] and have some chocolate covered popcorn with your movie! The chocolate covered popcorn is BY FAR the most amazing thing they offer. Everything is delicious, but this popcorn... is in a world all it's own. It pairs the saltiness of and airiness of the popcorn with the rich and creamy milk chocolate and the result is to die for. I have even known people to try and replicate this dish in their own kitchens and it is just never the same. Peterbrooke's chocolate pairs so well with the popcorn in a way that is hard to replicate, if not impossible! I have even heard of celebrities who have tried the chocolate covered popcorn and actually get it shipped all over the world. It is that addicting! Peterbrooke single handedly saved the day trip from being a complete disaster. I walked in and thought -ugh- don't make the same mistake. Yes, the atmosphere resembles walking into a catalogue (and nearly had me turning around boy am I glad I didn't) The service was better than wonderful. The idea of chocolate and popcorn didn't appeal to me until about 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. One sample and I was hooked. I ended up buying a rather large bag and spending the rest of the day rationing myself. Dayum that stuff was good. I picked up a catalogue and have already bookmarked their site. I honestly do not understand the rave reviews for Peterbrooke. The chocolate is not bad at all, but it isn't special either. I honestly cannot tell the difference between a Hershey's bar or a Peterbrooke bar. If you are interested in quality chocolate, I suggest buying a five dollar Callebaut block from Whole Foods instead. The only item they offer that stands out is the chocolate popcorn, but I think you could make the exact item delicious with a Hershey's bar. At a co-workers request, we stopped by for some gelato (well, Peterbrooke's version of it) and I couldn't even finish it. Have you ever left ice cream out for too long then put it in the freezer and forgot about it? That is a perfect description. The "gelato" was covered in ice and chewy, yes chewy! Sorry, Peterbrooke. Cute chocolate shop. Very friendly and helpful staff. Interesting assortment of all things covered in chocolate. They even have sugar free but some of the things in sugar free they don't make w/sugar (the coconut candy bar was what I wanted but I don't want artificial sweetners). So that was disappointing. The nice young girl in the store said I could try the factory and maybe they would have it. My only other complaint is they tend to use a lot of partially hydronated oils in the candy w/caramels. But if I'm eating candy I shouldn't think about my diet much...!! I loved that they make their own chocolate chips. I bought so many bags to take home. Love that it had the cocoa content (64%)! I also got the drinking chocolate. It make a very rich hot chocolate and it's cute so I plan to use it for decorating. My husband liked the chocolate covered popcorn. Jag paws were pretty good as well, as were the solid chocolate bars. Great little place! The chocolate is somehow different for the popcorn v. the other products in the store. Of course all Peterbrookes taste delicious and have the same large variety of snacks. This location, however, lacks friendly customer service from what I've experienced the last several (early afternoon) visits I've had. It's a shame when you come in planning to spend $20-50 on chocolate goodies and leave spending nothing because of the mood-killing staff that mope around. Also this location is the only one that doesn't keep their samples filled. Avondale always has a full container of popcorn and a full tray of random treats. Hopefully next time i can make an employee crack a smile or at least want to acknowledge me :-) read more

The chocolate is average at best. But they have good packaging for the holiday and everyone loves chocolate. However , the past few years the service has gone way down hill. Last year I ordered a large number of gift baskets for Christmas. All of the deliveries were screwed up. However, things happen and I thought I would try them again. I order a $150.00 basket to be delivered on a specific day as a surprise. Major screw up again. Totally ruined the surprise for a very special person. Never again!!!!! read more

We have been longtime customers of Peterbrooke since they opened their first store in San Marco. Always LOVED their goodies and purchased many gifts to share their awesomeness! And an annual Christmas tradition at our house was the large tub of chocolate covered popcorn for the kids and guests. After living in Jacksonville for 35 years we relocated to NC 4 years ago but we continued the tradition of buying gifts to share with friends here and also for the traditional tub for the house. I must say the last three years we have grown more and more disappointed. This year was the most disappointing....the tub of chocolate covered popcorn was not the large chunks we have enjoyed so many years....they were nothing but small pieces of popcorn with an occasional tiny chunk. I understand that there may be some settling during shipping but this was nothing more than tiny pieces. Very disappointed.....the price was always worth it for what you received but not any longer.
