My family has been coming here for about 50 years. The food is great & the service is awesome however, last night, my car WAS BROKEN INTO IN THE PARKING LOT. So this review is to warn other consumers about the break ins. 1. There is a sign on the door warning to not leave valuables in the car. 2. There was only a purse in the car that was well concealed. 3. We were parked RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE RESTAURANT. 4. When my car was broken into, I told the server that I would only come here during the day & she laughed a bit and said "They do it in the daytime too". I was very turned off by that response because it must happen often for them to know that. I would think that they would be concerned about the safety of their customers and either install MORE LIGHTING, CAMERAS or HIRE A SECURITY GUARD. I have been a loyal customer to this restaurant but after last night, I will not be returning to this restaurant unless I am taking the train or bart which would be close to never. I truly hope that they take this review and solutions into consideration because break-ins will overall hurt the business in the long run. read more

This place is amazing. The menu is huge & there is lots to choose from, including some Hawaiian favorites. The staff is friendly and very attentive. I had the tuna melt which was delicious, and we also ordered the apple popover (they call it a German pancake I think) and it was amazing - make sure to ask for some maple syrup with it. But take into account that it's huge, so it's good to share. It also has a great diner feel with pleather booths & countertop seats. I highly recommend this place if you haven't yet been there - and I will definitely be back! read more

This is a solid joint, man. We came here because MPH was taking FOREVER to call our number. Did a little quick search of the area for a breakfast/brunch spot and Peter's popped up! I loved the old school diner feel. Not trying to be a Denny's or an IHOP. Unapologetically doing its own thang and I'm here for it. We got a myriad of things. All yummy. No complaints. And I don't know if this is weird, but I totally judge a place by the taste of their ranch and this place has some bomb a$$ ranch. Very Wingstop-ish. I'm all about it. I selected this diner based on Yelp reviews and am so glad I did! The first thing that stands out is their extensive menu. They really have it all, here. The diner feel is wonderful if you're into that. Yay for the awesome service, too! The fried prawns and cocktail sauce were delicious. I hadn't had prawns in 20 years and had forgotten how much I like them. The mashed potatoes and gravy were wonderfully homemade, so different from any I'd ever been served in a restaurant. The veggies were cooked perfectly (broccoli, carrots, and squash). I also loved the salad. My sweetheart got a grilled cheese sandwich, fries, and garlic bread. He enjoyed all of it. The bread was light on the garlic. Our guest got an omelette, with which he was very happy. The ladies' room was perfectly acceptable, well stocked. Don't know about the men's room. Our servers were really nice. Very attentive, quick, helpful, and generous (took pictures for us that came out great). We already want to go back. What an ideal place for near an airport: lots of choices and on an obvious corner; so easy to find. It's not glamorous but who the heck feels glamorous when they're just getting off a plane or heading to the airport in their casual travel gear. Twenty stars seems appropriate for Peters. The service truly rocks these people are so pleasant and wow the food came out fast. When a place leaves a pot of coffee on the table you know this place is going to be good. I came back two days later after my amazing breakfast to try lunch. Everything is super fresh, the first time I ordered an omelette which had this delicious sausage, mushrooms, onions, cheese and home fries which had onions and peppers...It's only breakfast but damn tasty and you know why? They season the food! They have moco-loco on the menu the Hawaiian vibe is alive! Our waitresses on both visits were so cheerful and tentative it made this cafe dining experience quite literally superb. Second visit the chef salad was a two day eating experience, the size that is meant for one can appropriately described as "family style" very fresh and also delicious. My dining companion's devoured their bacon cheeseburgers which looked epic...Btw they skimp on nothing including the bacon! Loved this place, the old school vibe, the amazing people, and the inspired food...If you haven't tried it stop in and see for yourself. read more

Well, it didn't happen. One of my daughter's friends stayed over night, and they didn't get to sleep until 4am. We let them sleep, as a result, we did leave the house until it was 11:30AM. We asked where they wanted to go for breakfast/lunch, but they couldn't make up their minds. Since we haven't been to Peter's in a while, we decided to come here. As I mentioned in my earlier review of this place, the location used to be Ken's House of Pancakes, one of my late night post party/concert/movie stops when I was in high school and college. An old interior stuck in the '70's with Formica tops, booths, vinyl seats, and counters. Their menu is huge. Lot of choices for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In addition to their regular menu, they also have specials written on a white board near the cash register. Specials such as crab cake benedict, Hawaiian short ribs and eggs, or liver, onions, and eggs may be offered any particular day. After we were seated, and studied our menus, the friendly and attentive waitress took our orders: -Kids spaghetti: My oldest daughter and her friend each ordered this. This came with garlic bread and choice of ice cream. For a kids's menu, the portions were huge, but they managed to finish it. -Kids waffles, eggs, and sausage: This was suppose to be for my youngest, but she ended up eating something else (see below). My wife ended up eating this. Again, a very generous serving for a kid's menu. -Rice and brown gravy (special request for the Youngest): This was a side order. On our last trip to Oahu, my daughter missed having rice and gravy with her eggs. She was in heaven when this arrived at the table, and she ate most of the gravy. -Spam Omelette: fluffy eggs with lots of diced spam, topped with brown gravy. Choice of hash browns, home fries, or my choice, rice. Also choice of bread for toast, or pancakes. Feeling a little daring after last night's pizza, went for the pancakes. Didn't think I would finish it, but I did, and it took care of me for the rest of the day. I felt the effects of this meal and from Rainbow for the entire weekend. Overall, service is attentive and friendly from both the waitresses and the bussers. Food is OK, and the quantities are large. This is really comfort food, and I'll be back if I'm looking for some stick-to-the-ribs dining. read more

Lovie's birthday today! Being spontaneous, I took the day off from school and called him to ask, "When's your morning break?" He said, "I'll be off in 30 minutes." "Oh okay," I said. To his surprise, I was there to greet him at his work. I can tell just by the look of his face that I had made his day. I treated him to breakfast at one of our favorite Millbrae breakfast spots. Conveniently located near Bart, I've been here many times to escape the cold Bart curbs and warmed up with a hot coco or coffee. Lovie indulged in the Spanish omelet while I had the special - two eggs, two sausage, two pancakes, and choice of fruit, toast, or hash brown. All of which was cooked to satisfaction. Overall, a fairly good experience. Lovie and I were able to share a few laughs about random stuff. That paired with a good breakfast made for a good beginning to my lovie's birthday. read more

I think I dined here late nite once a very long time ago. I think I remember it not being very tasty & overpriced. After having Sunday brunch here recently, I now know for certain -- overpriced, mediocre food with a spaz of a waitress equals a 2-star experience. I know it's ironic that I'm complaining about an $82 bill for five people (considering we'll pay $300/per person at other restaurants) but this was not worth $16/per person. I ordered a "big 5" omelet ($12.95) which allows you 5 toppings...I chose cheddar, tomatoes, green onions, avocado, & salsa...eggs were a bit overcooked & too firm, but I enjoyed my pick of ingredients, along with the toasted rye (overloaded with butter, so ask for it on the side.) We ended up here because Millbrae Pancake House (MPH) had a super long wait; the fam we were with were on a time crunch. At one point, the waitress knocked over my niece's OJ when setting down a plate, then proceeded to mop up the spill with a filthy-ass rag. Really?! Next time we'll wait for MPH. Omgosh. I am horrified. This review is currently being written while I am glued to my toilet as I have been for the past hour with terrible stomach pains. After a failed crabbing adventure, i turned to yelp to help us find a place that was still serving (almost 10 pm on a sunday, EASTER night) with decent ratings. I ran into Peters Cafe. It was on the way, so we decided to make a pitstop to "somewhere new." Upon arrival, my boyfriend and his friend joked about how this place needed some rescueing. We went ahead and ordered anyway. Bf ordered the double cheeseburger with bacon added, side of fries and a house salad. I ordered the fried clams appetizer as I wasnt that hungry. Our friends ordered the crabcakes appetizer, the eggs and bacon platter with a side of french toast, and the double cheeseburger. We all finished our food and agreed it was ok, nothing to write home about. The only cool thing was that their burger patties were pretty thick in size, and so were their bacon slices. My fried clam tasted really chewy, and the breading was overcooked, making it super hard. I finished what i could. Ive been home about 2 hours now, with an upset stomach about half an hour after. When i first felt it, i was having severe cramps and had a horrible urge to puke. I have a pretty strong stomach, and almost never, ever throw up. I was able to hold it down, but the stomach pains continued. I then realized i needed to run to the bathroom immediately, where ive been for the past hour. .... Horrible case of bubbleguts. Tmi. .but quite frankly I believe i have some type of food poisoning. Im only being nice and giving this establishment 2 stars because the older asian lady serving us was genuinely nice and tried her best to be attentive. Regardless, i think i was served bad seafood. Either that or their kitchen is toxic. My stomach wouldnt be acting this way for no reason. This worries me because i am pregnant and scared whatever bad food i just ate got passed onto my vulnerable baby:(. hope im the only one feeling this way. ... Never coming back here again. ... I've always driven by this cafe, but never tried it. We were feeling a bit hungry at 2am after two rounds of Settlers, and Pete's was the only thing open 24 hours up in the 94030, or so I imagine. We arrived to a few police cars, and an ambulance. Hmm.. midnight snack? I think not.. We walked in to find a broken window, and splatters of blood! Apparently, a fight had broken out and they were just starting to clean up. We hopped over the splatters of blood, broken glass, and were seated promptly. They had a couple of tables, but were pretty intent on getting our order quickly. It's a quirky place and hey.. a cafe with a bar.. you can't really go too wrong with that. The menu is extensive, and has the basic breakfast, burger, pasta types. They also have a few hawaiian items.. I didn't get to try those, but if I ever go back, I'll give it a go. I had the banana walnut waffle. Not what I expected, so I was a bit disappointed. However, Companions K, P, and H ordered omelets that looked freakin amazing. No, no, no. No. Not again. I watched the CalTrain doors shut tight as I was flying down the stairs. Oh, well - a burger and fries from Peter's Cafe will cheer me up. Burgers and fries are what diners do best, and I had fond memories of late night eats at Peter's Cafe. Maybe the place has changed management. I was so disappointed with this latest visit that I never want to eat here again. Wasting my money at Peter's Cafe was more depressing than waiting on the platform in the cold and rain for the next train. If you have a choice, any fast food place would be better! I have walked out of Peter's Cafe before because no one was willing to acknowledge my existence at the counter and I had a train to catch. Now I have to say the food stinks as badly as the service. I ordered a three cheese burger. The burger was as thin as a McDonald's burger and was at room temperature. The cheese-food slices (not even real cheese) were only melted at the very tips of the corners. C'mon, that fake cheese is made to melt - was this burger microwaved? The fries were still frozen at their centers. The bun was the cheapest, plainest supermarket bun you can get. The "food" was all so lousy I ate only two fries and one bite of burger. Did they offer to take the plate back? No. Did they offer to make me something else? No. Did they take my money? Oh, yeah. And, when I said that that meal was the worst, the cashier said "thank you." I have one good thing to say: the waitress who took my order was bright and cheerful. I hope she finds a job at a better place. read more

This is a throwback kind of diner that offers all the classic American favorites and standard breakfast fare. When I lived in Millbrae, I always passed by but never once stopped in... until recently. My husband and I were staying in a nearby hotel and decided to get breakfast here one morning. Upon walking in and getting seated, the clientele seemed to consist of regulars and people en route to the airport. 90s R&B music played overhead, which was kind of odd but funny. Hearing Keith Sweat's "Twisted" playing while eating eggs, surrounded by old white people and businessmen was just slightly bizarre to me lol. Service was prompt and friendly. The food here is excellent. So, why am I giving Peter's 1 star? Because my buddy and I went to Peter's for lunch one day, got chicken noodle soup poured on us, because one of the jackass waiters was playing a joke on another, and nobody even bothered to apologize or acknowledge in any way that what had happened was perhaps not what you would expect in a typical dining experience. What happened? We were sitting at the counter, enjoying our steak and eggs, when one of the waiters picked up a bowl of soup, his co-worker came up behind him, and as a joke pushed his arm forcefully... you get where this is going? The soup bowl flew out of his hands, and landed on my buddy. My buddy is a doctor. He had to go back to the hospital to take care of patients in the ICU. He didn't have time to drive home for a change of clothes. So, he's covered in chicken noodle soup, and ends up having to go back to work covered in noodles and chicken broth. What does the waiter do? He kind of laughs and gives a half-hearted apology and walks off. I go to talk to the manager / owner, and she kind of laughs, like, "Oh, those crazy guys! There's no telling what they'll be up to next!" Now, I suspect the manager / owner acted this way as an attempt to diffuse the situation. Maybe she's afraid that there's going to be a scene in her restaurant. Maybe she's furious at her jackass waiters deep down inside, but can't show it, because she's gotta put on an act in front of her customers, so as to not lose control of the situation? I have no idea. But, I would submit that from a customer experience point of view, our lunch at Peter's was sub-optimal. So, the next time you want to have soup poured all over you, because some jackass waiter likes to play jokes on his co-workers, and then have the waiters laugh in your face about it, please go to Peter's! If I could give zero stars, I would. I can't rate the food as the service was so off-putting that I cancelled my order and left. Since the owners don't have a sign saying so at the front door, let me tell fellow Yelpers that "YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE IF YOU WANT TO SIT DOWN AND DRINK A CUP OF COFFEE." Odd policy for a "cafe." No one informed me of this until the third wait person I encountered. They will charge you $1.50 as a "service charge" if you do not order food to eat while sitting down. Supposedly this policy is on the menu but I don't go to restarurants to read fine print -- I retain a lawyer as needed for those purposes. In this case, I was waiting for the BART with my mom and ordered a latte to drink there and chili to go. My mother had just eaten and didn't want to order anything. All the cafes and diners I have gone to in my life have never charged extra for service even with a small order like this. There are well-regarded cafes/ diners all over the country who, as a large part of their business, have "regulars" who just come in to chat and have a cup of coffee. These "regulars" sometimes order something to eat but not always. There are cafes which limit time that customers can spend there and I can see that happening as customers take up seats but Pete's was not crowded and I would have been there for only 30 minutes. By not treating customers similar to myself well, you can guarantee I will never be back to your business, even though I am a fan of diners, cafes, and brunches. It's not the cost of the service, it's the principle. The owners have a right a set any policy they want but as a customers who live in the area, my mom and I have an equal right to not patronize their business and to tell our friends and family never to come here. Pete's has earned their name on our blacklist. I really like their deals they have here. The team are very nice and even like to make each customer feel special. Like when I went with my boyfriend I ordered the spaghetti plate and for my garlic bread they cut it into a heart. They have a counter. Nice spacious place, kinda cozy. Bathroom is clean. Food wise I would have to say decent but that's just my plate, and first time going there. I really like how they give you the whole coffee pot when you order coffee. Peter's Cafe is one of those more homey places to plop down read the newspaper and have a cup of joe. It's a local Millbrae version of Denny's or IHOP, but they have better food, huge quantities of it, and their friendly employees have been there for years. It's a quaint place near the BART/Caltrain station. It's an old looking diner though. The decor probably hasn't been changed for some time. The restaurant has about a 180 degree view of the intersection on the El Camino that it sits on. It's a good back drop for sitting and chatting with friends or breakfast on the go. The parking lot is big, so parking shouldn't be a problem at all although it does get busier as the morning progresses. If you're looking for good old American diner cafe style food and the ambiance to go with it, then this is your place. read more

The best thing about this place is that they serve food and they are open 24 hours! I was happy that they had a vegetarian (avocado, lettuce and tomato) sandwich. It was pretty plain, but not bad, and it came with yummy french fries, all for $6.75. Stopped in here after running errands in Burlingame. Me and the bf had never been, my stomach felt like it was eating itself..so we stopped in for a quick bite. Inside is not much, looked like an old school diner type place, bustling with peeps. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, the bf had a grilled chicken sandwich & we shared some fried clams. The fried clams were hecka good, as was my burger...the bf enjoyed his sandwich.. The food was pretty good, our bill came and it was a tad pricey then what we usually would spend on an early lunch..so that's my only gripe. I first came to Peter's Cafe in high school since my cousin used to live there. They have the best Chili Cheese Fries there and the Turkey Eggs Benedict is the best I've ever eaten. Yum yum yum! I've been coming here since u was a kid, and I love this place, everyone who works here are all so nice!! The food is always so good, and I love the atmosphere :3 But right now, I want to tell you what I just saw at Peter's cafe. I was sitting down at a booth right next to the counter,waiting for my food, and a homeless, run-down looking man comes in and sits at the counter and asks, extremely quietly, if he could have a cup a coffee, and Betty, the waitress, asks if he's hungry, and he nods and again, very quietly says yes. Betty goes over to the kitchen, grabs a bowl, and proceeds to serve a huge bowl of hot oatmeal, with milk, Brown sugar, etc. And a thing of fruit and a glass of milk. That is why I love this place!!! We come here for breakfast almost every week after church (have come here for dinner a time or two with friends as well). This is a mom and pop type place.. Peter and his wife Tiffany run a well oiled machine. Their niece Christine is our favorite waitress however she's only in on the occassional sunday now that she's out of college and in the career world. My favorites are the diced ham scramble and the spam and eggs. my mom loves the bacon waffle, the swedish pancakes..and who can go wrong with the German Pancake. My dad switches around withe the Milano (spicy sausage definitly the way to go), the farmer, or the corned beef hash. The evening sandwiches are pretty good..and well the onion rings..we've even ordered them at breakfast..Yum O! Dont knowt his place because it's 1970's blue. For those that have said it's expensive..you know it's almost 2010, correct? The prices reflect most restaurants (other than mcdonalds) in the area for the same food! read more

The food is horrible, the service is horrible and above all that it's too expensive! $11 for Mushroom and Cheese Omelet that is plain horrible. $5.95 for corned beef hash out of a can that is horrible. I first found Peter's cafe when I was having a somewhat stressful time, back in March '08. I had spent several weeks prior to this traveling around the bay area trying to determine whether to stay in the states or return to family in England. By the time I reached Millbrae, after traveling all afternoon from Santa Cruz, I was still no closer to deciding whether to take Bart one station further and return to england (my visa had expired two weeks earlier). Feeling totally stressed out, I decided to stay in Millbrae overnight, and noticing the diner decided to spend a few hours procrastinating. (somehow the pastel 50's colors adorning the diner helped lull my anxiety and eased away the stress of my decision). I ended up spending a whole night at the place being lavished with refills of coffee, and warm comments from the waitress, after ordering a plate of egg, avocado and baked potato. They did not even glance twice as I sat intently reading my Foucault book all evening, trying to divert my attention from the decision that would have to be made the next morning. At 4am they even made me a custom baked potato, with a side of the most soul calming whipped cream I have ever eaten. In the end, that was enough to give me the strength to get on that plane, and not make my immigration violation get completely out of hand. read more

Ok, so seeing as how i lived for several years on Long Island I grew accustomed to having 24 hour diners around. I have searched and searched and have not found a good diner. Pete's Cafe in Millbrae is close enough i suppose. It's open 24 hours, the service is bad enough to be diner quality and the food is typically expensive. The plus side to this place is that they have a vegetarian sandwhich and they don't skimp on the avocado. Another plus was watching my BF eat the Challenger Burger.
