Their Greek calzone and jalapeño bites are absolutely amazing. The service is always really great too!

I grew up in Spokane and then moved to Portland, Chicago and now NYC. PDX, Chicago and NYC are all known for being food cities with great pizza so I think I have a pretty decent palette at this point. In fact, I can tell you the best pizza restaurants in every city I've lived in but I will always tell everyone that Pete's has the best Calzone of all. On my most recent trip to Spokane, I made Pete's my first stop. I was hoping they had kept the same recipe since the last visit and I was happy to find that it is the same exact recipe they have had since I first starting eating Pete's when I was 5 years old. They have gone through several managers but the recipe has always stayed the same - you can't say that for many restaurants. If you're going for the ambiance: forget about it. You're in a college neighborhood with some of the best tasting calzone in the world. You can get it for take out and eat it at your place if you don't like the junky-look-of-the-week. The funny thing about Pete's is that they change the interior of the restaurant about once every 2 years but they ALWAYS keep the PacMan machine in the hallway exactly where it is. My suggestion is to try the Original Calzone. It's a million pounds of cheese, a gob of pepperoni, some black olives, mushrooms and really great sauce all with a crispy top shell and that yummy doughy corners. mmmmm..... They have a decent beer selection, otherwise you can finish your pizza then walk to Jack & Dan's or Bulldog for pool. One thing to note: it takes a while for the order to come through. It usually takes 25 minutes but sometimes longer. That's just how it is. You're getting the best calzone on the planet so give them some time to do their magic... Best calzone EVER. PERIOD. I won't order calzone anywhere else as I know I'll only be disappointed -- no one can match Pizza Pete's. Friendly, cheerful staff. Ask for the punchcard -- it's free, and you get a free calzone after 10 punches. Calling ahead by 15 minutes virtually eliminates any wait. So, I have been on a, thus far, futile search for amazing pizza since I moved to Spokane nearly a year ago. I had hope for Pete's after reading good reviews and hearing good things in general from locals. Sadly, my hopes were wasted. We went pretty simple with the pizza and ordered a large with pepperoni, sausage and onions. The guy at the register was friendly and professional. The service in all was pretty good. The wait for the pizza seemed a little lengthy for as slow as they were, but good pizza deserves patience, right? Once we got our pizza, it was obvious that they over cheesed the hell out of it. Pizza is the one exception to my rule "you can never have too much cheese". Why? Because it makes the pizza heavy and soggy with grease. It compromises its entire structural integrity, for the love of God!!!! Anyhow, that was just the case with this pizza. Really, REALLY soggy and greasy. I was only able to stomach 2 pieces before calling it quits. As badly as i wanted to like Pete's, its just not worth a return trip. read more

The pizza is $20 for a large. I thought if it's that expensive it must be pretty good. Not true. The pizza was so salty. It tastes like there was triple the salt content as in a normal pizza. I thought this may have been just one bad batch but all three of our pizzas were just so salty. Not worth the money at all. read more

This place is the pinnacle of calzones! Super stuffed with great fresh ingredients and cooked upon order. It can take a while, but the vibe in the place is cool. Juke box with Bon Jovi hits, and some Ms. PacMan should tide you over. My grandma demands my dad arrive with a Pete's calzone if/when he ever visits her in Spokane. One time he brought calzones for everyone and left his on table while getting napkins. Gma's dog hopped up on the table and ate his. Tried this place out and it was pretty good. The service was awesome. We ordered the antipasto salad. It was pretty good except I wish there were some Italian peppercinis in it and a little more on the Italian side instead of just adding some pepperonis in it. We ordered 2 calzones and they were both delicious and huge however one of them was just a tad bit runny and I wish there was a bit more inside. I still think this place is worth the try. Remember that the calzones takes a while to make and cook so get a salad or appetizer first while they are cooking it. read more

Star 1 is for the food quality. I came here as a kid and didn't remember it being this good but the calzone was amazing from the delicious crust to the garlicky tomato sauce to the savory sausage and pepperoni. It all just went together so well. Star 2 is for the service. Although the calzone took about 20 minutes once ordered, which was expected, the people working here were great. Star 3 is for the atmosphere. It is so cool how this pizza place is in an old house-like building downtown. I think it also has like an old arcade game down the back hallway but not 100% on that. Star 4 is for the food being worth the price. We got a full calzone for like 10 bucks and shared it. Star 5 is for the WOW factor. Made or order - don't come here expecting you're food in 5-10 minutes. It will likely be a 30ish minute wait. They have a sign right up front clearly explaining this yet I constantly hear people complain about how long it takes to get their food. Anywaayyyy... Their calzones are actually the best. Meat lovers, Greek, or anything else, it will be delicious. The calzones are gigantic and it is totally reasonable to split one between two people. I'm very disappointed! me & my husband have been going to Pete's Pizza for many years. This particular location was very slow and our calazones were skimpy. For the price we paid and the long time we waited I figured they would make up in quality...WRONG! After waiting over 45 minutes, we finally got the worst calazone I've ever eaten! The crust was thin, the toppings were scarce....in fact, I didn't see any ricota cheese at all! Honestly, I would've been better off getting a Hot Pocket for $2.00!! I won't go back to this place. Why I go to Pete's: A nearby sit-down pizza place that is at an affordable price especially for poor and starving engineering students. If the TV is off, not a bad place to get some reading done. I grew up in Spokane and completely took this place for granted! I think I just assumed that all calazones were as good as Pete's. But the truth is, Pete's Pizza has the BEST CALAZONE IN THE WORLD! At every other place I've tried the crust is overcooked or there's too much cheese, or not enough cheese...etc, etc. etc. But Pete's cooks it perfectly! The calzones are good, but not worth the horrible service. Because they had just one cash register and one person dealing with customers, I had to wait in line for twenty minutes just to pick up something I had called in thirty minutes before arriving. Their approach to customer service leaves much to be desired. They are strictly a volume business that can't be bothered with paltry things like customer experience. Add to that the extremely loud and obnoxious person behind the counter wasting significant time with small talk and suggestions that customers already (finally) at the counter order two alcoholic beverages at once because they'll have to wait in the mounting line (cluster) to get another. Pete's was once a community icon. AFAIC, it's now just another make-a-buck operation that thinks the customers will keep coming no matter how badly they treat them. read more

Pretty good calzone but seems like they almost used puff pastry versus pizza dough. Very "lite" dough which does make it nice that it's not like you are stuffed from a heavy calzone. The light dough means you get a giant hole of air in the calzone; they look pretty but you cut in and it deflates to about an inch thick. I came to Spokane in 1995 and had a Pete's Calzone sometime not long thereafter. What a treat to have yet again for dinner this evening. Over the years they have maintained a consistency and quality that is extremely hard to achieve in the restaurant business. If you are looking for terrific calzone this is the place. I came into Spokane for just the day on business and one of my coworkers raved about how the calzones are beyond good here. Being optimistic we came here for lunch and I ordered the chicken bacon ranch full size thinking I would be taking half back to the hotel. The next thing you know my plate was empty and I'm left thinking WOW!!!! That was the BEST calzone I've ever eaten!!!!!! That they have been making calzones since '72 and this was The Calzone King gave me some real hope. All in all, I would say the calzone was soft and wet. Calzone crust should be baked and a bit stiff so you can easily eat it with your hands. The ricotta just made things wet. The red sauce didn't add much. Overall, bland. Maybe if you got one with a bunch of Italian meats it could compensate. I saw their pizza and it looked like it had a nice thin crust, though a ton of cheese, so I think I will give them another go. Besides, I don't think anyone else is making calzones so I'll probably make due with another one. read more

If I could leave a 0 star review I would. Walked in, ordered and tipped at 7:34. The "so called" shift manager misplaced everyone's orders. Table of 5, 4 calzones and 2 salads. After an hour we had to tell them we hadn't gotten anything yet, the shift manager who was the employee who took our order told us she had already given us our food. Which none of the 5 of us had. After about 35 more minutes of waiting she brought out one salad at time with an outrageous attitude. Then we finally got 2 calzones and they weren't even the right ones our table ordered. Later, at 9, customers who had ordered before us at 7 were still waiting. Asked for a refund, for which we had already paid for the food we had not received, and the "shift manager" developed an even worse attitude with our table. So no refund and no food. Also to mention I had never been to this establishment and after tonight, I never will again. After asking for someone else we could speak to another day, they refused to give us any contact information or names of anyone else in the company. read more

A 30 year customer. Will not return. Called order in at 410pm. Drove from Otis Orchards just for PETES. We know the food here isn't fast food. We walked in to only ONE other customer who was served within minutes of us arriving. We waited patiently until 5pm WITH NO EXPLANATION from staff regarding the delay. At 505 pm we approached the counter n expressed we needed to leave, the female employee snapped at me that it was only going to be 5 or 10 more minutes. With that I found it inexcusable that our order would take OVER an hour at a slow time. With no apologies either. It was obvious our order was forgotten. . So come tell us that.. I would have been less mad if you were honest and apologetic. We received neither. Huge disappointment. No longer making that drive to support rude incompetent staff. I went to Gonzaga. I went to Gonzaga-in-Florence (Italy). This is the best outside of Italy. And better than some in Italy. We are full-time RVers. I make sure to swing by Spokane whenever possible - my wife knows it's so I can go to Pete's. And she loves it, too. If you want the pure Gonzaga experience, have a beer or two at the Bulldog (next door), call Pete's and place your order for your wonderful Calzone, then bring it back to the Bulldog and eat at the bar. It's a great time. The calzone is amazing. it's just plain perfect. It's large, tasty, hot, with a wonderful crust. The sauce isn't just a boring tomato sauce, they crafted a tasty complement to that wonderful crust. Did I mention the crust is wonderful? It's what I dream of when going to other pizza places. It's what I strive for when I make my own pizza. This isn't your chi-chi California Pizza Kitchen pizza with arugula, goat cheese, etc. This is the standard calzone/pizza done to perfection. This will ruin you for pizza the rest of your life. You will always say, "it's good, but it's not Pete's." People will hate you for that.
