I am shocked that this restaurant stays open much less generates any positive reviews. My brother and I had not spent a New Year's Eve together in over 30 years. Last New Year's Eve he came into town and he and I and his girlfriend friend and a friend of mine went for dinner. We waited an hour in the bar even though we had reservations. To be fair, the bar is relatively comfortable and attractive and the people we talked to who were also waiting were pleasant. After an hour I went to ask the hostess how much longer and was told that she was about to seat us. We paid the bar bill and followed her back through several rooms that were strewn with unbussed tables. Now, keep in mind that I worked in Food and Beverage for Marriott for 15 years. My brother is in wholesale foods and thus his clients are restaurants, goumet shops with prepared foods, shops like Alons and his girlfriend is an executive chef. No professional restaurant leaves unbussed tables just sitting there with dirty dishes and classes. Then we sat and waited and waited and waited. Finally my brother got up, grabbed an empty water pitcher and went to the bar to fill it so the four of us could have some water. That shamed the waiter into coming to offer us bread. My brother in all sincerity told the restaurant manager who was ensconced behind the bar that we would all be happy to help clear tables. We also made the same offer to the waiter as we were really embarrassed for them. They weren't interested but didn't seem to mind what the restaurant looked like. Our order was finally taken about 30 minutes - a conservative estimate - after we had been seated. The food that came out was mediocre at best. I can cook better and I am not a professional. My brother's girlfriend's meat was so tough she couldn't chew it. It was certainly not the cut of meat one would have expected given the description on the menu. The rest of the food was passable but not professional restaurant quality in any sense and certainly not in any way exceptional. We asked the waiter what the hell was up. He flatly stated that they were under-staffed. They knew going into the night they were under-staffed and not only did nothing to staff up but really did not care. It became clear to us they did not care about anything - the appearance of the restaurant, timely or efficient service, the quality of the food nor their diners' overall experience. If you are looking for a special event place - and again my brother and i Hadn't spent an New Year's Eve together in over 30 years - this is not the place. I wouldn't recommend it for holidays either. You couldn't pay me to darken their door again. read more

I've driven past Petite Violette innumerable times, been curious, never stopped in until a coupkle months ago - now? It's a favorite!! The complimentary bread is outstanding-crisp exterior, chewy airy interior, and a hint of sourdough. And served with butter at precisely correct temperature. Starters are divine (all the ones I've tried). The charcuterie and cheese board is monumental - make sure you have enough hungry people here! The Brussels sprouts? Out of this world!! And the accompanying sauce? Just the right amount of bite. I've had the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and a green veg - They know exactly how to prepare everything, from the beef to the asparagus. The saumon grille is a special treat as well. Tonight, I tried the pasta dish and added salmon to it - brilliant choice! Likewise, all the desserts I've tried, I've enjoyed immensely - I always take home at least half my meal, but the dessert always gets finished. I tried this place once. The location looked nice. But... it was just lacking. I love French food. But nothing about this place made me think of France. The food was mediocore. Nothing was not edible nothing like that it was just a place I don't plan on going back to. Nothing really impressed me there. Which is a shame since it is so close to where I live. The best meal I've had this year by a mile. Violette has been intriguing me more and more as I pass by it during my daily travels and always seeing the parking nothing less than full. Last night I didn't want to venture out too far and told my SO it was time we go. Were both shocked when we saw the decor inside and size it looks much smaller inside. First we started with a few drinks I had a Lemon Drop great drink. For an appetizer I did the Mussels in white wine and consumed 75% of it myself. For my entree I had Confit de Canard which was cooked to perfection and the sides didn't fall short carrots plus mash potatoes. The starter salad with the meal wasn't too shabby either. We had a Chardonnay that I didn't care for but that was the least of my worries. I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

Love the happy hour here! 5:00 - 6:30 is Violette's happy hour, which features 4 wines by the glass(a chardonnay, pinot grigio, pinot noir, and cab sav), a few beers, and some spirits - all for $3. No jokes - what an awesome special! There is also a happy hour menu, which features a killer bruschetta for $3.95. My only criticism is that the bruschetta bread is a bit hard and cold - it would be awesome if they served this with their regular, warm soft french bread. Yummity. We also dined on the pate appetizer, which was plenty of food for 3 girls to share, but OMG, heaven. I loved the pate - perfect texture and taste, and surprisingly awesome when paired with a tinge of mustard. Their cornichons - I could totally eat a bowl full of these and would pay $$$ to find out where they get them. Such yummy food! Happy hour specials are only good at the bar so be sure to sit there to score the deal. Besides, Violette's real gem is Shahid, who is truly one of the most pleasant, jovial bartenders I have ever encountered. 5 stars to him! And did I mention the live music? Went for our anniversary after having wanted to go for a long time. Our plan was to spend hours eating and drinking and we did just that! The crab cake starters were delicious, the muscles were just ok however the mains were incredible. The beef Wellington was out of this world. It literally metered in my mouth! The sea bass was cooked beautifully and that too melted like butter in your mouth. Our cocktails and wine that ensued were all top notch. We had an excellent waiter and enjoyed every minute of our beautiful evening. We ended with the bread pudding and managed to slide it in with all the other deliciousness that we ate. Food is very tasty. It was Prix fixe, which was fine. The other times I have been, the menu selection gives you lots of choices. All the dishes I have tried have been very good. Oh & save room for dessert, something chocolatey is the key! Portion sizes are larger than most expensive french restaurants. So you don't leave hungry! Prices are moderate. Don't go there for Sunday lunch buffet because when we got there there were not so much food on the food warmer. And when they were filled thee were only boring omlette, some sausage, greasy bacon, some beef stew and rice. Some smoochy veggies and not even fresh nor green. We had to serve ourselves and got our own coffee or tea. The only thing they brought to us was the cuttery and water and they never came to refil or check on us. When we asked for the bill they charged 15% for service charge!!! The jazz music was too loud for a conversation, we were seated farther away and that meant we had to walked a long way to get our food and coffee! We'll never go back there again. They have valet parking but I didn't like it. The conclusion is the choice for buffet is very limited. There's nothing but bacon, egg and beef. No chicken nor fish nor seafood. OHMYGAWD! This was simply incredible! Ok... the bad: I ordered the duck (Canard à la Lavande). It was a little dry but on the upside the sauce served with it was OUTSTANDING! Now for the good: EVERYTHING ELSE! The service was fantastic. Our waitress was there whenever we needed her but didn't hover. I had the Pâté Campagnard . It was fabulous. It was gentle, the salad with it was awesome and the dijon mustard was divine! My companion had the Escargot. This was his 2nd visit to a french restaurant. There were 6 small escargot swimming in a divine white wine butter garlic sauce! His entree was Entrecôte (Grilled New York Strip). His was served Maître d'Hôtel Café de Paris (Herb butter, garlic, capers, Dijon mustard seed). He had it medium rare and would have ordered another if we had the time... it was THAT good (he's a steak purist who doesn't like sauces on meat but raved about this steak several hours later!) We had two guest with us. For appetizers one had French Onion Soup. He (his FIRST visit to a French restaurant) LOVES french onion soup! He has french onion soup in EVERY city he visits and NOW he knows what REAL french onion soup tastes like! The other friend had Salade aux Betteraves (Sliced beets, goat cheese, mixed greens, orange vinaigrette). He has attended culinary school and is my favorite home cook! He LOVED this salad! For entrees they had Risotto de la Mer (Risotto in truffle oil with crawfish, shrimp & crabmeat) & the Steak Au Poivre. Again... nothing but raves for these dinners! We ended our evening with desserts: I had the most divine bread pudding ever! My companion had Mango sorbet and wished he could have taken a gallon home! This place was so good that we went there two nights in a row. The staff was amazing both nights and very accommodating. Our waitress Kristen was also awesome both nights with our kids too. The food was spectacular! So delicious. First time eating French food, so I am not sure about authenticity, however I can say it was delicious. I had the BOEUF BOURGUIGNON, Braised Beef Short Rib, Pommes Puree, Carrots, Pearl Onion, Mushroom in a Burgundy Wine Sauce. The meat was super tender and the sauce was to die for. I've been dining at Violette since they were in the little house on the other side of 85. The food had pretty much stayed at a consistently good quality over the years, but service just seems to get worse and worse to the point where I have to have an overwhelming craving for something to make me go there. I too have had 2+ hour long dinners that felt a lot longer. In fact, the last time I went, I re-filled the water glasses at our table and the one next to us when our server would just disappear for 15-20 minutes at a time. However, there are menu items here that you can't get anywhere else. I always start with the delicious fried potatoes, the pommes de terre a l'alsacienne, dipped in a creamy herb sauce. Of course that leads to third degree burns in my mouth because I can never wait to dig in. My favorite entree is the confit de porc, which comes with decent mashed potatoes and sometimes mushy vegetable medley. You can't go wrong with any of the desserts, but my weakness is the crepes Milton - their choc mousse is to die for! One other note, despite being in Dekalb County, they have allowed customers to light up several times while I have been there, which can be really less than pleasant. read more

Excellent duck, great wine list and huge portions! We happened on this place in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and decided French sounded excellent. I always will try Duck and this preparation with a light orange glaze was exceptional. Warning: The cheese plate is huge and we probably had too much cheese prior to eating to fully appreciate our dinners. That's polite speak for me fessing up to "not cleaning my plate". The ambiance was excellent as there was live jazz music which is wonderful. Great service as our server let us catch up on conversation without "pushing us" to quickly order. I had such high expectations for this place, and ended up sorely disappointed. Does Petite Auberge have better reviews? That might be why. I have been looking for delicious Beef Wellington in Atlanta forever, and was so excited that they had it! Turns out, they barely season the freaking steak. It was so bland, it literally tasted like cardboard. Boyfriend got the Cordon Bleu and it was dry as hell. The waitress was mediocre. The restaurant is kind of hidden, and the interior would benefit from a major remodeling. Not impressed with the ambience at all. I went on a Thursday and the place was not crowded. The service was good overall. I ordered onion soup and crepes. I was pleased with both although the soup could be improved with a little extra salt. For the last twenty-eight years I have worked in the fine dining sector of the restaurant business in Atlanta, first as a waiter then as a manager. One thing I insist on for people I work with and myself is that the goal is guest satisfaction. I find that the only way to achieve that is that you have made the guest know that you love what you are doing. Last night my boyfriend and I decided to go to Petite Violette for our twenty-sixth anniversary because we had such a great experience when the restaurant was located in Toco Hills under the name Petite Auberge. We didn't think think it would it would be much better than last time, but it was. The minute we walked in Jess, one of the managers, greeted us like an old friend. Our waitress Miranda, was energetic and made us know she was glad to be taking care of us. All in all, the staff, the service and the wonderful food made our anniversary special, because everyone involved truly care. We will be back. read more

Great intimate restaurant with wonderful service...our wine group met there for our annual wine lunch and they were very accommodating with corkage...I had the steak frites, which was prepared perfectly, tender and delicious....also had the roasted Brussels sprouts, one of my favorite apps...the special was the foie Gras, however, it was over cooked and not flavorful as it usually is....others had the salmon and beef bourguignon, which were also perfectly prepared and presented ...desserts were great! I was so looking forward to a birthday dinner in this fabulous neighborhood French restaurant but I was sorely disappointed. The first dismay was no french bread. Literally they used parker house dinner rolls from Krogers. Two on the plate were drizzled with garlic and butter but were so dry and old. Too bad. The next item I splurged on was the foi gras which was served stone cold. When my table mate got up to complain,, the management whisked the plate away. The second serving was hot but plated very differently than the first. Don't rely on the pictures on this site, everything is plated at the whim of who is cooking that night. Our waiter was not attentive so we had to circumvent when we asked for ice, hot food,extra butter, Bearnaise sauce( which was printed on the menu as sauce for the filet mignon.) My salad was dressed properly and chilled. Most of the menu items had the sides for each entree in the description, but the rack of lamb had none. When I asked if it came with sides, our waiter said that everything comes with the sides of the night. My rack was filling enough even if a tad too under cooked which was still okay until I tried to cut into and chew the tough sinews. My table mates filet was cooked perfectly but it too was tough and dry. She got a scoop of mashed potatoes and asparagus. I got fingerling potatoes and asparagus. Her mashed potatoes were not hot and quite dry. We ordered the pot du creme with Grand Marnier and it was very tasty. The $3.00 cup of so-so coffee was the last straw. Perhaps we ordered the wrong food, or the baker was out sick,or the expediter had gone for a cigarette, or I am just too picky but for a $100.00 bill and no apologies for the cold liver, and no acknowledgement of the birthday I clearly included in my Open table reservation, i'd rather spend my money and birthday elswhere. read more

Oh, mon ami, Violette. I come here for a regular meeting, so I am along for the ride with regards to picking you as a restaurant. Knowing what I have experienced I don't think I'd visit you on my own, as there is no single outstanding quality that could bring me back. That said, the service is very good, and prices are very reasonable with the most expensive item as the Filet at $32. That's the good news. The food is decidedly average to just above average, however, with said Filet perhaps the best thing on the menu. Formerly called the Petite Auberge, Violette (or Petite Violette) could use an cosmetic update, too. When I think "French" I think romantic, perhaps trendy and luxurious. At best Violette is a local, casual bistro, IMOHO. Valet parking is available at the door. With my review as a backdrop, and with reasonable expectations, Violette offers decent French food at reasonable prices in a casual environment. Perhaps new ownership will perform a makeover on the space, and I look forward to updating this review describing Violette as the destination French restaurant in the ATL. read more

Stopped in for a classic taste of fine dining. Jazz trio provided live music, white linen french dining in a classic setting. No trendy bs, just well prepared food with exceptional service at a great value. Dinner for two, app, soup, salad, entree course, and one dessert came to 112. Escargot was awesome, and presentation was classically attractive. We were under dressed in polos and shorts, but were welcomed anyway. Nice spot. read more

We used this restaurant for our reshearsal dinner for our wedding, and we were so pleased that we did! The restaurant provided a private room for us to use. For big parties/events, there is a set menu. It's a choice between a set salad, 3 entrees, 2 desserts, and 2 wines. The service was impeccable and the food totally blew everyone away. Words can not express the hospitality and warmness in which Violette's entire Team greeted me and members of my organization during our most recent visit and event. It was the best service we have received of all the places we hold monthly events throughout the city!! Whatever the women owners of this establishment are communicating, paying and training their people....keep doing, it's working very well. From the valet parking to the inside servers we were treated like royalty!!! I am still beaming from this experience that occurred 3 days ago. Members of my organization went to another restaurant today and while the food was great, no one mentioned anything about the service...meaning it was nothing to talk about, not bad, but nothing great. This restaurant is really nice. The people are friendly and they have a great wine selection. Compared to other restaurants  in this part of town, the price is fair and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a a good time with friends or on a date night.  The staff came around and asked us if we needed anything and took care of us and checking up on us every 15 min. The only thing I would like to see an improvement on is the bathrooms. I feel like they could have been kept a little more clean. read more

Very, very poor quality. We ordered Beef Bourguignon y what was in the plate was a cube of beef extremely overcooked on top of mash potatoes. In reality, this is made with small pieces of beef in a stew with vegetables and served with potatoes or dumplings. Whoever is doing this in Violette has never been in a French restaurant. Held a wedding rehearsal dinner on 4/20/18 for 27 people. We had a private area and the service and food was excellent. Highly recommend. Only downside is the non valet parking lot is adjacent to the restaurant and was dirt/gravel and not well lit. I would opt for the valet next time. All in all a wonderful evening and would highly recommend to anyone hosting an event. I will definitely go back to have dinner there again. read more
