We had the opportunity to dine at Elise last night. Everything was excellent. The food was superb. Every dish was packed with flavor and fit the vibe and culture of the ambiance of the design. The staff was incredible and more great recommendations to help guide us through a great dinner experience. Our server Olivia showed us some of her favorites and even let us try a couple of pasta dishes that we were considering trying. Over the service, we ordered charred cucumbers, the bread service, braised beef and smoked ricotta raviolis, the chili sauce halibut, and petit filet with mushroom reduction sauce. 10/10 on all fronts. First time dining here, so we parked at Colony Square and walked to the restaurant. We used Google Maps and didn't realize the restaurant is located right inside the High Museum of Art area. Parking around this area is always expensive and hectic, especially on weekends. The place definitely has an "old money" aesthetic with velvet seating, curtains, and white tablecloths. Their logo and menu are also very well designed. We made reservations in advance for a birthday dinner. Somehow, the receptionist took quite a while to find our reservation, and even after we were halfway inside, he stopped us again and asked us to wait while he double-checked. Aside from that small hiccup at the beginning, everything else was good. The highlight of my experience was definitely our server, Luke. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, super friendly, attentive, and thoughtful. She made sure I had a good birthday experience by offering to remake my mocktail when she noticed I didn't enjoy the honey syrup in it, even though I was too shy to ask for a change myself. We ordered: - Sourdough and Cornbread: not complimentary, this is a menu item by itself, and it tasted good. - Smoked oysters: The oysters were fresh with no shell fragments, and they tasted good. - Anchovies & sherry butter: The anchovies were a bit too salty and sour for my taste, and the bread was slightly soggy instead of toasty and crisp. This dish didn't suit my preference. If you've ever had Thai canned sardines in tomato sauce, the anchovies tasted similar, just without the tomato sauce. - Steelhead trout: The fish itself was good, but I wasn't a fan of the black-eyed pea sauce. The caviar was mixed in, so I couldn't really taste it either. This was my second time having steelhead trout, and it really looks a lot like salmon. - Roast chicken: A solid roast chicken, simple and well done. - Chocolate mousse: The mousse itself was good, but it had za'atar on top, which tasted like black pepper to me. It gave the chocolate a slightly strange flavor, not bad, just not our preference. If we had known beforehand, we probably wouldn't have ordered it. - Lemon tart: I liked the meringue, but the tart filling was a bit too sour for me. The flavor itself was good; I'm just not very used to strongly lemon-forward desserts. The savory food was good, but the desserts were a bit of a miss for us. What a lovely place to spend an evening. We enjoyed the girls night here because it was quiet, intimate, and we could actually hear each other speak. Do I sound old yet? All the food was great. We enjoyed the tempura veggies and salad, and the trout and chicken dishes were phenomenal. The smoked cheese tortellini was a little too smoky for our liking, but I'm sure others would love it. The chocolate mousse was excellent, but I'm a purist and could have done without the healthy amount of olive oil on top. Our server was remarkable - so conversational and helpful and patient. It felt like such a treat dining here. If you go on a night when there aren't any shows at Woodruff, you can snag street parking. read more

We were introduced to Elise on Wednesday as a Tasting Collective event. Chef Richards served a 5-course tasting menu, following: 1. Summer Squash Carpaccio: 2. Risotto Cacio e Pepe 3. Smoked Ricotta Ravioli 4. Pork Medallions 5. Chocolate Mousse & Comté Cheese We returned yesterday (Saturday, four days later) for the tasting menu. 1. Tuna crudo 2. Beef carpaccio 3. Squid ink cavatelli with rock shrimp 4. Pork medallions with fig gastrique, Jerusalem artichoke 2-ways, and chanterelles 5. Peach tart with salted caramel and ginger crumble Service: Outstanding. The servers are knowledable, helpful, and attentive without being too attentive. Chef Richards actually remembered me from the Tasting Collective event and personally served a couple of courses. Food: I'm not going to write a boring commentary on all 10 dishes. They all share outstanding execution and spot-on seasoning and ingredient choices (exception, not sure about Comte and chocolate). The two outstanding dishes for me were the risotto and cavatelli. The risotto was perfectly cooked, slightly al dente with a perfect emulsion of the pecorino and stock or water used to cook the dish. Perfect use of pepper as well. The cavatelli were also well cooked but the shrimp were the star of that dish. Very fresh and sweet with excellent pop. Really enjoyed my time at Elise! A pretty penny but would recommend for an elevated date night before heading to the high museum or going to see a show at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The decor is elegant, minimal, and chic. I enjoyed the smoked oysters, clam and linguine, and the halibut. Everything I ordered I shared with a friend. They also do the simple things well. I enjoyed their bread service and their water menu. Cocktails were pretty good including color theory and the green curve with gin. Didn't have any issues with service, they were attentive but we did have to rush things along at the end so if you're in a rush - I'd keep that in mind. read more

My wife and I visited Elise on a Wednesday evening and had a wonderful experience at this elegant spot in the Woodruff Arts Center. The location across from the High Museum is fantastic--we love this area of Atlanta. The space itself is stunning: airy, white, and simply designed with an elegance that carries through to their plating. Everything about the atmosphere feels refined without being stuffy. Our server was excellent and clearly knowledgeable about the menu. When he wasn't sure about something, he checked directly with the chef, which we really appreciated--especially since my wife has a gluten allergy. His accommodation and attention to her dietary needs were top-notch. We shared the risotto and duck breast, both of which were quite good and exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The risotto was excellent. The duck breast was prepared well, though it came a bit more rare than I personally prefer. I was particularly impressed by their creative cocktail menu, especially the vermouth selections. On our server's recommendation, I tried one with scotch, and it was fantastic--really well-balanced and interesting. My only minor critique would be that the service, while friendly and attentive, felt slightly over-attentive at times. A few too many check-ins interrupted the flow of our conversation. Just went to Elise for the first time last night and it was fantastic. I'm not sure what those two negative reviews are talking about. First, the ambience was simple but elegant, red drapes over the window's and dark lighting gave the place an almost gothic mood. Second, the food was incredible, I wish I took more pictures. We started with a sourdough which had a wonderful finishing salt and a lightly whipped butter. Then we tried this mixed gazpacho with parmesan ice cream (I know it sounds strange), but it had such a unique flavor and felt so novel, a must try. Finally, I finished with the duck breast in the picture, which was one of the most delicious things I've had in a long time. The blackberry reduction it came in was absolutely incredible. This is fine dining, so do expect the cost to match, but for a special night give this place a try! read more

Horrible, we specifically asked to be served before our concert at Atlanta Symphony. Almost an hour wait for food . Zero follow up . Made a specific reservation at 530 and we're close to missing our show . Never got our meal! When we complained we were accused of being rude. Which we were not!! Manager was mean and rude . For all the things that are praise worthy in this place, the service nearly ruined the entire experience for me. In a place so beautiful and with such a reputation of excellence, a sarcastic and often neglectful waiter feels so out of place. We spent half the dinner asking for water. And when the server would take an order he would quickly turn around and leave before the other person could tell him their order. So everything came out at different times. He must of had a lot of other table because he just seemed rushed and careless. He seemed to also lack wine knowledge and didn't know the wines by the glass, (there are only two reds). I've heard the rumors of bad service in Atlanta. But to have even the manager be dismissive of our concerns is a new low. I don't know why a place so fine would allow the most based and rude people be the face of their brand. For food the tuna carpaccio was a little underwhelming for me. The aioli was flavorless. But it was beautifully plated. The beef Bourgogne was very dry, perhaps overcooked? But flavorful. I wish one dish was executed perfectly for the price of the experience read more

Last night we celebrated our anniversary at Elise, Craig Richards's newest jewel welded onto the side of the Woodruff Arts Center. The place is split in two, like it couldn't quite decide on a personality. There's the red room, which feels like someone shrank a theatre dressing room and lined it with draped blinds so you can pretend you're important. Then there's the green room a little farther in, larger, brighter, the sort of place where you might go if you want to be seen. The service works the same way it does at Lyla Lila: not so much attentive as clairvoyant. They materialize the moment you begin to wonder whether you've been abandoned, and then vanish like accomplices in a jewel heist. While present, they are charming. When not present, you feel blessedly left alone. The food was obscene in the best possible way. I ordered the rabbit tagliatelle, which sounds rustic until you see what they've done to it, and my wife had the snapper, a dish they recently reworked because apparently "already delicious" wasn't quite cutting it. The sauces were the stars. The sommelier gave recommendations that made me feel like I'd been ordering wine incorrectly my entire adult life. I don't mind paying good money for a dinner that feels like an experience, especially when the dishes are things I could never dream up, much less cook. And then came the lemon-curd tart: a quiet little thing dusted with blueberry and peppercorn, as if the pastry chef had simply decided that logic was for amateurs. It shouldn't have worked, but it did, and now I'll be suspicious of all desserts that show up without pepper. We'll absolutely go back. Cocktails were spot on and waitress did an excellent job helping us weigh our options. This was extremely DISAPPOINTING. I've been to restaurants all over this city, and this was by far the worst meal I've had. The seafood pasta was covered in oil/butter. You can see it pooling in the bottom of the dish. And the gnocchi was super bland....no flavor. Waste of money. read more

A truly excellent dining experience. The ambience and service was warm and friendly and the food was outstanding. Omah, my server, and Brandon, the Maître D, truly made me feel at home. The seasonal Scottish trout they were serving was amazing and the pistachio gelato was to die for. If I'm ever back in Atlanta, I would surely return. I attempted to create a reservation as soon as the reservation system opened but I was unable to change the number of diners from 2 to 1. I often go by myself on nights when I have a ticket to the Symphony. I tried calling several times but I was never able to reach anyone. I decided I would walk up and the hostesses informed me that the restaurant was fully booked, which I expected, but they also told me I could not sit at the bar. I would have left a message about this on the restaurant's website but there is no option for feedback. Pretty lousy. I was looking forward to trying this place but I will make no further attempt. read more
