This Petsmart is one of the only 2 locations near San Diego that has a pet hotel service (the other one is in El Cajon). My husband and I decided to pick this location to drop our beloved girl dog at the pet hotel since this location was closer to the San Diego Airport.
On Labor Day Monday, early in the morning, we dropped our little girl off at the pet hotel. We were greeted by a young male employee, after waiting 10 minutes since no one else was at the front desk.
We left our little girl here at this pet hotel for 10 days (We went to Maui to celebrate our wedding anniversary and sadly Hawaii makes it so difficult to bring a dog into their state... I really wished I had just brought her anyway). Since we had never dropped her off this pet hotel location before (we usually use the location in Monrovia, where she knows the employees and the layout there), I called once to see how she was doing. I was really annoyed with the employee who finally spoke to me (was placed on hold forever to get someone to talk to me). She told me that my dog was shy but eventually warmed up to the place as he has finally got used to the place. Also my dog really loved this one particular employee, etc. I corrected this employee right away and told her that my dog is a girl and that I wanted to make sure that she was telling me about the right dog. She just said it is the right dog and just kept on referring to her as "he".
Anyways, when we finally came to pick up my little girl, we waited 15 minutes for someone to finally come to the front desk to help us. We arrived this past Wednesday morning around 9:30 am. There were employees walking around, escorting the dogs to the restroom. I understand that we had come during their busy time, but someone should have came out and told us that someone would be with us shortly. These employees clearly saw us but did not bother to acknowledge us, which was rude and annoying.
Anyways, when an employee finally came, this female employee brought out our little girl. Then she read off of the "paw-gress report" about how she was doing. She basically told me the exact same thing the employee on the phone had told me, also referring to my dog as a "he". In fact, I have a feeling this was the same employee whom I spoke to on the phone because her voice sounded very familiar. Again, I corrected her to tell her that my dog is a girl and not a boy, to make sure she has the right dog. She just replied "same thing"..... :/ last time I checked, a male and female animal (or human) is not the same thing (at least biologically).
I have a feeling that the employees here have a generic script that they follow when reporting to their owners how their pet did, thus referring to my dog as a "he".
But the other thing that really bothered me about this pet hotel location was that when they brought us her toy and her blanket, the blanket was wet. This employee offered to wash it, but when we asked how long that would take, she said it would be "several hours". We declined and just took our wet blanket (why was it wet anyway? My little girl is very well trained and only goes to the restroom outside. Possibly wet from her water bowl?). She gave us a bag to put everything in (but not the original reusable bag that I had placed her belongings in when we first dropped her off).
I really dislike our experience with this pet hotel location. Our usual location we go to always returns our items in the same bag that we drop off her stuff when we check her in. They also are better organized and know my pet by name and recognize us whenever we stop by (before my husband and I started to travel with my little girl 2 years ago, we would always drop her off at the pet hotel... and we travel a lot throughout the year). I don't know why this particular location cannot be as organized as the location in Monrovia. I would hesitate to check in my little girl here again at this location in the future. read more
