We used to live right on the border of SJC and Dana Point; and we love this place. I greatly miss Stephanie, but man is Ryan a fantastic trainer. And all the staff are so friendly and always remember my dogs. And they are genuinely interested in what we have to say. I don't usually write bad reviews but today's incident takes the cake. I came here to purchase 3 fish for my 10 gallon tank. Apparently they have a policy about 1" of fish to 1 gallon of water. When the fish sales girl found out I have 3 fish currently in my tank, she said she would only sell me 1 fish! What? These are small fish: zebra, neon tetras, schooling fish. Then the young female store manger started with the same dialog. I've kept healthy tropical fish for 40 years. These employees need to get a better attitude toward customers. Maybe Petsmart employees are trying to do good for their pets, and that's a good thing, but customers are their livelihood & most customers care about their pets more than the employees may! read more

Not so great experience here. I called this place to get a quote on how much it would cost for them to bathe my puppy. They told me 10.99 which is a great price for nails, ears, anal glands, and a bath. I also decided to ask about teeth which the woman on the phone informed me that it was 6 dollars extra. Not too bad. So I scheduled an appointment for that day for one of the two open spots left. When we arrived it appeared that no one was in the groomers and when someone did see us we weren't even greeted. Finally a girl came up front and asked if we had an appointment and what time. She searched the system everywhere and couldn't find our name. I was so irritated, what's the point of making an appointment if it doesn't even go through. After telling them I called earlier that day they found us written down on a notepad, but they misspelled our last name. OK, simple mistake that's fine. So I handed her the leash and was told it would be 2-3 hours to wash my 4 month old pup. That's fine, I drove my butt back home and received a call 3.5 hours later. When I came to pick him up I was greeted and handed the receipt to checkout.. so I went to pay for him, came back and was immediately given his leash. I asked how he was they said good and then I asked who the person was that groomed him and gave her a tip.. I couldn't believe how soft he was and he smelt like cookies. Simply amazing! :) Once we got home he began playing and running around, scratching everyone including a girl about to be married in a week.. I decided to call the groomers to see if they could fix his nails.. they said they can but it's twelve dollars extra and suggested going to a tennis court to wear down the tips. The tennis court is a great idea, but what's the point of even taking him to the groomers if you'd do a better job at home. A week later I got tired of looking at the spots in his ears and cleaned them myself. Lots of brown and black guck in them. Poor baby! His breed is notorious for getting ear mites. I also decided to clean his teeth everyday. Doubt they could even do that right. Honestly, don't waste your time and money here. My parents take their dog to a petsmart in another state, and always receive a report on how the grooming went; information on who the groomer is, products used, any problems or concerns, and how the dog did. Obviously, this one does not do that. I will take him to a local groomer next time. read more

I honestly don't understand the negative reviews. Seems like someone with an axe to grind, maybe? My Shi Tzu and I have been going to this Petsmart grooming salon for over 6 months now and we've always been very pleased. In fact the manager, Elaine, is one of the sweetest people I've ever met. She sang to my dog the first time she met him because he was scared about being there. It relaxed him and now he's always happy to see her. My Shi Tzu and I know for sure that the staff here care about pets and their owners. read more

My friends in grooming and the Pets Hotel KNOW how much I think of them. They take such GOOD care of my fur kids. Cowboy Cody has been grooming them for years. If there is ever a problem I know that it will be corrected fast. If you are going on a trip or just want a day to treat your dogs to a "day with other dogs," PetHotel and/or Doggy Day Care and Doggy Day Camp are WONDERFUL for them. They get tired in a good way. I am a huge fan of PetSmart. Chris, the PatsHotel Manager has been a friend to me and doggies Oreo and Linus. I am very happy to have this Petsmart close to me. I have a 7 year old cat and a young bullmastiff. I want the best for my pets, and I feel that Petsmart offers great products for a very fair price. For example, my husband and I prefer to feed our pets Blue Buffalo cat and dog food which can be on the more expensive side. Our dog will eventually be well over 100 lbs, and will eat a lot. I appreciate that this particular brand runs about $10 cheaper (for a 30lb bag) at Petsmart than at other pet stores. Also, I have called several times to ask about product availability and prices. Each time I have called an associate has promptly picked up the phone and has been very helpful. In addition to being helpful, they are also polite and patient while listening to my questions. For this reason, I believe they have fantastic customer service. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is due to their dog training. Please let me say that I did not put my dog through their training. However, I did notice very large classes, and in my opinion they should be significantly smaller. read more

I made an appointment last week for our two animals (dogs) to be bathed and nails trim. Come to find they didn't even trim either of our animals nails and I paid for the service. I specifically brought our bigger dog in to get her nails trimmed and when asked their response was "oh her nails didn't need to be trimmed". Her nails most certainly need to be trimmed because they touch our hard wood floors. We have been long time customers and always had great experiences. This pet smart is terrible and an embarrassment to the company. read more

I'm just so upset, disappointed and let down by the way my puppy was treated. I dropped him off and they sort of took him out of my hands, he's only 9 lbs so it rubbed me weird when they did. They put the orange leash on him and as they were walking him back I could see him hesitate a little as she dragged him. I gave a look to the other groomer who witnessed the same thing and she assured me "he's just fine, all the puppies do that". Not wanting to be overprotective, I didn't speak up. I adopted my MaltiPoo when he was just a little guy and have taken care of him.. he's a cuddlier and such a lover! I'm usually the one that give him a bath and he enjoys it every time, let's me towel off his little ears and paws and the whole thing he never minds. When I picked up my shaved pup, he was shaking uncontrollably, after the "bath" he got and I paid for, he had tears his eyes and nose. They cleaned some of it off, and there were new tears there he got just that day. He had new knots in his hair and long pieces of fur they didn't groom, trim or even cut out on his ears, face, body, tail and paws. He's all white with pink skin and his ears were bright red and he wouldn't even let me touch his head. He also was now terrified to let me touch his belly, lay him on his back, touch his ears, tails and back legs.. all things I have done his whole life when scratching his belly and petting my sweetheart of a pup. I don't know what kind of abuse and mishandling they did with him but it has to have been awful, to frighten him so badly. I will never, ever trust these people to care for my puppy and you shouldn't either. You can't imagine how terrible it is to drop your amazingly, happy puppy off to get a bath and trim and get back a terrified, scared puppy! read more

I brought my German Shepherd to the SJC Petsmart for the first time and Val did a great job. I will definitely bring my dog back again.

I took my dog Bella in to get bathed and groomed. I brought her in at 3 pm, they said it would take approximately 4 hrs. She is a 21 lb cocker spaniel and this is appropriate timing. I have had her groomed and bathed since she was a pup. I knew they closed at 7pm and at approximately 6:30pm when I hadn't her if she was near ready yet I decided to just go get her as I assumed she would be ready. As I walked in and glanced in the glass enclosure I saw her abruptly being shoved upon the grooming table and aggressively being "shaved" I was appalled and alarmed, it dawned on me that after being there almost 4 hours they had just begun the grooming process! My baby looked terrified. I immediately asked for the store manager (the grooming salon manager had already gone home for the day) and demanded her to be taken off the table and I refused to pay!! She was never actually groomed! The "store manager" honored my non payment. When I got home I have never seen my dog so thirsty! I know my dog and I guarantee that within a 4 hour time frame she had most likely not gotten any water!! I called (Shannon) the salon manager the next morning. She asked me to come in so she could take some photos of my dog. When I went in the next day I had to wait for Shannon the salon manager. She then came out and told me it just looked like a bad haircut and that they would fix her up! I have since found a local salon calle Zuri pet salon. They have taken care of my dogs needs and I am more than happy! read more

VERY UNPROFESSIONAL behavior + awful attitude from an employee named Andrea who works with FISH. She would not sell us a small fish (balloon molly) to go with our ONE other fish for a 5.5 Gal tank, because she said our tank wasn't large enough for TWO FISH! She was defensive and trying to control the conversation and then said, "you can just talk to my manager". She has a negative attitude, she's never on the floor unless paged, then when she comes out she looks and talks like she's been taking a nap in the back room. She always seems to be tired, crabby, and just plain rude. read more

This review is for dog grooming only. TERRIBLE. They will go through a full consultation on how you would like to see your dog groomed, you explain specifics as to how you like him, etc., and they smile and nod. And then turn around and SHAVE him within an inch of his life! Terrible. To the point that they dog had razor burn on his rear end and proceeded to 'scooch' along the floor (no he does not have worms). He has visible shearing marks on his rear and is miserable. Ended up going back in and consulting with the manager and he then proceeded to refund the money. They were way over priced in comparison to what actual specialty dog groomers do. Avoid getting your pooch groomed here at all cost. In fact, go around the corner to the horse feed store on Doheny and use their do-it-yourself bathtub/shower for dogs. $10 bucks and you don't have to worry about breaking your back as its raised for your convenience. And you don't have to clean up afterward! read more

To be honest, I'm not sure I want to give any stars. I haven't had the best experience with any of their services. The grooming is my last straw. My dogs name has been in the system wrong since day 1, I have asked them to change it FOUR times. She probably won't respond to you if you don't call her by her name- that all started in the bandied portion. Now, I am currently waiting for my puppy who had a grooming appt at 2, was told I would be called between 5:30 and 6 because they closed at 6. I did not receive a call so I drove down to see if I had missed something. It's 6 pm and they have yet to even take her back! I wonder if they at least changed her name in the system? What is the point of a freaking appointment! read more

I typically don't give bad reviews but after today's experience, I felt inclined. Took my dog in to get his nails grinded. Walked in to an empty grooming department. Place was filthy, dog hair everywhere as if no one had bother to sweep any station. Waited 5 minutes for someone to come out of the back and acknowledge me. I could see them standing in the back and heard multiple times that they had a client waiting (me) yet still waited 5 mins. Finally was asked if I had an appointment, no but needed his nails grinded. Told her that more than likely he will express his anal glands. She did a quick job (which was nice) but nails don't look all that great, still sharp and not very short. She told me that he did express his glands and no kidding, my dog smelled terrible. Typically Petsmart employees will clean up the dog after that but she didn't feel the need... I cleaned him up in the car, poor thing. I gave 2 stars because the rest of the place was fine, nice enough employees. Super disappointed in the treatment my dog and I received. Might give them another shot, maybe a different employee.... read more

I usually love this place, but after this last experience I am boycotting :( I got my autistic son a bearded dragon ...when we got it the gentleman helping us tried his best but ended up ( we found out later) giving us ALL the wrong info on lighting, food etc. cut to the chase, the bearded dragon failed to thrive after 17 days and passed away...after day 10 we even made a trip to the store to discuss what we could do( smaller crickets?) hand picked.. failed also. went back to store on day 18 they would not credit us the $$ ( 14 day policy) my son was devastated! we even went back to discuss food, lighting etc before this all happened, my son did EVERYTHING right. the dragon was either #1 sick or we were misinformed. either way only 4 days past return "policy" they let us eat the $60 for the dragon.. this is SO wrong. maybe I should return all the $400 worth of things we got to go with the dragon? yup, that is what we will do read more

I am very disappointed in the management and corporate offices of PetSmart I took my yellow lab in for a bath and nail clipping. They did a very good job. but on our way out a little dog jumped out and snapped at my dog so I pulled my dog out the door...when we got to the car I noticed she had a big open bite wound above her eye...I went back in and they said they couldn't do anything and that i should get her to the vet. My vet bill ended up being $160. I have talked to store managers and the corporate office a total of 9 times filing a report each time and every time they say a report wasn't filed...and each time telling me someone will get back to me in 3-5 business days. I have not heard from anyone. One of the time i went in to take them my vet bill another dog snapped at me...I really hope someone from Petsmart that has any authority will contact me to resolve this issue. Needless to say I will not be using PetSmart store or grooming services anymore. read more

We have been taking our two dogs to Shana at the grooming salon since they were puppies; about 4 years now. She is always full of sunshine, calls them "her boys", and has even called when she hadn't seen them in a while to make sure they were okay. My dogs are skittish and have both tried to nip at her at drop off, so to be so nice to them shows incredible patience and grace. They always look beautiful when she is done with them. read more

The staff here is very friendly and personable. They really take time to help you find what you need and are very honest about what you DON'T need. The groomer that does my dog seems fine but she works very few hours a week and appointments must be made well ahead of time. That's not how I bath my dog, I do it when he needs it. Apart from her, I find the grooming salon to be poorly run, the phone system directs you to the website. Appointments made on the website are not honored because it apparently over books the groomer. Calling in you get put on hold and when the guy answers its like you just called in, it just leaves a bad taste. I think I will find another grooming salon to cultivate a relationship with! read more

I tried to utilize the walk in service on Friday to have my dogs nails cut around 6pm and they ended up closing early with no notice. I then tried to make an appointment for his nails on Wednesday and they informed me that nail cutting is only a walk in service. I informed the woman on the phone about my situation from my previous attempt and she contacted the groomer and informed me that they will be closing early again tonight at 5:30. Since I couldn't make it after work again, I ended up going there on my lunch break. Upon arrival, I was informed that I would have to wait a half hour so I politely asked if I would be able to have him seen sooner since I was on my lunch break and I had to go back to work. Another woman, older with brassy hair, cut into my conversation and gave me an attitude that it was a walk in service and I had to wait. I turned around and left and will never go back there. I used this groomer all of the time and have never been treated the way I was treated today - after that, I would never let that rude old lady touch my dog. read more

The managers at this location are wonderful Gerald and Kayla go out of their way to help you with anything you need and are very knowledgeable. They have a beautiful cattery in their store with great rescue cats from The Ark of San Juan. Their dog trainer Ryan is the best a round. read more

I have been going to this store since it's been there. If I had any complaint, it would be that they tend to run out of the prescription food my dog needs and they often don't have it when I go there. But that is only on occasion and I'm not going to ding the store for that. As for the grooming, my little Diamond loves getting her bath there. She hates getting her toenails clipped, but that's not their fault. Overall, I'm glad this store is in our neighborood! I also go to the private pet stores for stuff, but they don't carry the prescription food. read more
