Don't go here if you care about your animal. I'm only talking about the grooming portion of my visit. I took my dog in there and I like to watch the groomers sometimes and my dog is a very calm, older Shih Tzu. Well he wasn't acting up or anything and they just manhandled him. They tugged him and made him cry, which he never does. His groom never looked right either. I usually bought the TopDog treatment which ended up being around $70. I'll never go to another PetSmart for grooming. A local grooming shop usually has less patients and takes more care of the animals. I pay less for more services at a local grooming shop too. read more

I have always taken my dogs to Pet Smart in another location. The service was acceptable. I tecently too them to the one in Dana Point and was not overly pleased because they missed things. Once I specifically wanted the hair on my dogs face cut back out of her eyes and when I picked her up it was as if they hsdn't touched her face. Then when my husband picked up my other dog, who is 8 yrs old, but very shy and skittish, the groomer told him in a rude tone that she needs trainer. Then the last visit, I specifically asked that my little dog's hair on her tail be trimmed and washed. When I picked her up, it was the same matted mess as when I brought her in. Did they even bathe her? Finally, to add insult to injury, I went to enter their ladies room to wash my hands, and it was locked with a key pad. I asked two people if they could give me the code and both rudely told me no. I would have to get the manager's permission. He was busy checking people out, so I left. I just spent $70 dollars for a bad service and couldn't even use their facilities. So I've also stopped bringing my dogs and buying my food there. read more

Yolanda, the store's dog trainer is literally the best. We have taken every class at least once and have such a great time we have actually taken most classes 3 times. Our dog,Jordan absolutely loves her and Yolanda knows exactly how to motivate and communicate with her. I highly recommend Yolanda Freeman and her classes. read more

I always go to this petsmart and normally have no problems. Today I asked an employee If I can house a male and female betta together and she said based on the size of my tank it's totally fine. I didn't leave them together but basically the male tried to kill the female. I read in other threads from petsmart they advise multiple leopard geckos can be housed together which is also not true. This information is dangerous to animals and if you don't know an answer to something it's better to not say anything at all. This petsmart is a great place for pet to get groomed, and fancyed up. They got a large selection on fish. The birds and hamsters are well kept. The bathtoom are for customers only. I was made very clear of this after the cart person told me he would call the shriff after going in trying to buy friskey turkey shredded giblets for my cat. I went to another store. They wouldnt let me even say what I was there for. They said "this is the end of our conversation" and kicked me out. I would have tryed to buy the cat food but I dont think they would let me back in. So I review this store 1 star read more

Dog grooming... I rescued a dog from San Clemente Animal Shelter. I then took him to PetSmart so I could find out how much to groom him and make an appointment. They asked me his breed.. I told them mixed and he weighs 30#s. They kept asking me the breed! I kid you not, this went on for sometime when I finally said you need to change your sign to "purebred" only. I went back to speak to the manager about this he told me "they have to know the breed so they can charge accordingly ! " What? WORST experience of my entire life, i left this place crying. never once have i gone out of my way to leave a bad review, however i am so heartbroken i felt the need to share. my boyfriend and i have been looking to adopt a kitty and went in to this location because they were hosting a cat adoption event on 5/26/21. upon entering we filled out an application to be approved for adoption. the lady that was "helping" us proceeded to read every question on the application out loud for everyone to hear and then condescendingly asked multiple ENTIRELY unrelated questions about our personal lives, my guess was because of our age (my boyfriend wanted to surprise me with a cat for my 21st birthday) because the mother next to us with several screaming children walked out the door behind us with a cat in her arms!! this woman was ageist, disrespectful, discriminatory and straight up F***ING RUDE. it breaks my heart that people like her get paid to work with animals. if you're looking to give a furry friend a new home, please check your local shelter first, there are so many animals that need loving homes and kind souls that would welcome you with open arms! read more

We will be taking a stray cat to be neutered next week, and went to PetSmart in SJC to see about getting a crate to try and make taking him to the vet somewhat easier. I mean, have you ever tried getting a TAME cat into a carrier? Now.. imagine a rather feral kitty. Not pretty .. right? Anyhow... I had seen that some of their crates were on sale and while looking for them, a young man and woman asked if I was finding what I needed. I mentioned what I was needing and that I had seen they were on sale and I was assured the online price would be met at the register. Then the young woman, (Susan I believe was her name) did her own price check and came up with an even better price! She accompanied us to the checkout, gave the cashier the price, wished us a good day and left. What a GREAT experience! I am really really upset at how I was just treated. I accidentally went to Petco down the street from this Petsmart for my dogs appointment to have a haircut. By the time I showed up I was 21 minutes late. Instead of calling me to find out if I was still coming, the girl informed me they called two other dogs to take my appointment. They were not polite or apologetic. I will take my business now to Petco. Really poor customer service. What a huge waste of time! read more

My husband and I had the absolute worst experience here. We came in at 8 am for a nail trim for our 1 year old dog. We've been here a couple times before and have had good experiences but this time was different. When we first got there, there were 2 girls gossiping about another customer. It wasn't a huge deal but it just didn't give us a good impression because my husband and I had been waiting a while and they continued their gossip openly while we were sitting there waiting. We then proceeded with the nail trim and then one of the employees let us know that they were under staffed and couldn't do a nail trim at the moment. We said okay and she told us to come back at 9 and then changed it to 9:15 because she said that the Employee that was coming at 9 had to "check her dog in" and needed some time to do so. Not a huge deal. We got there around 9:20 as we stalled for about an hour and a half and no one was on the floor. The girl, that I guess got there at 9 and was supposed to do the nail trim for our pup, rudely stuck her head out the back door and told us that she had just started grooming her own dog and needed 20 more minutes. She told us to write our name and number down (we had already done this at 8 am) and that she would call when she was ready. She said it with a very rude attitude like we were inconveniencing her. We were absolutely appalled. My husband and I are in our mid 20's and truly aren't hard to please. But we will never be back. I hope there is improvement moving forward. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. MAJOR ANIMAL CRUELTY GOING ON HERE. They returned my puppy traumatized. She has been to grooming at Petco before and they are patient and kind with her she always walks out happy from there but I was stupid enough to take her to PET SMART!!! They traumatized her she didn't eat for almost a week, she didn't want to walk or leave her bed she would pee on her bed. If we raised our voice even the slightest she began to shake. She cried almost all week. They returned her saying she was not having it and was making all the other dog's nervous... ummm I've seen her get groomed before at Petco she doesn't seem to cry or get crazy maybe a bit of nibbling but they mange to get the job done with love and distracting her and talking to her sweetly. I have no idea what they did to her but she is not the same anymore. Don't waste your money, and do research on the grooming place you wish to take your dog to. Even the staff seemed judgmental, from the minute I walked in there the cashier kept an eye on me as if I were going to steal something, I realized she did that to everyone. She didn't even receive customers with a smile!!! There is something going on at that PET SMART. Nothing good that's for sure. And from the other reviews I can see these people may not even love dogs they just work for the money, who treats poor dogs like that? She came back with a lot of little cuts on her body. This is the closest Pet Smart location to my home and I have had no problems whatsoever. Staff is helpful, the store is clean, and I can always find what I'm looking for (not to mention I get to pet a puppy or two any time I come in!). I can't speak for the grooming portion since I bathe my own dog and there's no need for a haircut on a Chocolate Lab... But, reading the other Yelp reviews, and seeing how there are only extremely bad reviews and good ones (the bad reviews are mostly related to grooming) I am getting the idea that some customers are just a bit pretentious. All in all, if you are looking for a Pet store, this one isn't the devil; everyone chill out and cut your dogs hair yourself, see how that goes before blaming a human being who's just trying to do their job. ‍ read more

Just did a curbside pick up of an online order I made late last night. They were the only store in the area that had items I needed in stock. We pulled out front, opened our trunk, called the store and they quickly found our order and came outside and put it in our trunk. We asked the guy to not close the tailgate since it's on a remote. Order was complete and receipt was stapled to the bag. Never got closer that 10 ft from each other...perfect!!! Great experience, will be doing this again. read more

I took my dog to this location after having positive experiences at the petsmart grooming salons up in NorCal. First red flag when I got in, his groomer Jenn was brushing out/finishing with another dog who was barking and she was telling him to shut up and seemed super annoyed. She then asked coworkers if she could muzzle him and they all said no. Dogs bark, you should especially know this when working with them. Despite my gut feeling I dropped my pup off. I came back to pick him up and his eyes hadn't been wiped, he had hair/shedding everywhere on him (even though I paid for the furminator?). And his nails looked like they were grinded at just the tips not shortened at all. Super disappointed and won't be coming back. Also might wanna give jenn some more training not only on grooming but how to properly interact/ handle dogs. read more

Been taking Walt here for nearly two years and haven't had an issue. Staff are nice and friendly and remember Walt when we bring him in. They do have a new policy where scrunch face dogs need to have an express service which is a little more but they are in and out within an hour. I love this grooming salon! They are inexpensive and do a better job than the high priced grooming salons I have tsken my fogs to in the past. Mark Carroll groomed both of our Newfoundlands in one afternoon and did the most beautiful job on them. I was shocked when I picked them up because they were in bad shape when I brought them in. I just love this store. The employees are professional and extremely knowledgeable. Once I went in there and asked to buy some fish and supplies. The girl helping me asked me many questions to make sure I bought the right fish and the right tank e.g. Size, type of food, water composition, etc. my fish probably would have died had I not spoken to this employee...keep up the great work! I've read negative reviews where some customers display their ignorance thinking they know better than employees trained to carefully look out for the health and well being of the animals. We bought a big bag yesterday and opened it to find a lot of stuff growing inside bag, looked at expiration date and it was August 2017. Finally got to my dog after 5 hours but insist on reminding me that I can't leave him for longer than 6 hours. Still waiting in the store while they finish up after 5 hours and 50 minutes now. I was bringing my dog there for awhile for grooming then his groomer left to go to college. I made an appointment with another groomer, and arrived early to my appointment. I waited outside...I am glad I did cause what I saw and heard I left with my dog. Two groomers were taking care of one little dog and were yelling at the poor dog who was already scared to death... they continued to yell at the poor thing and they were laughing right after yelling at the dog. Very, very unprofessional, abusive and unacceptable behavior. I wish I knew whose dog was being abused as I would of called the owner. read more

Grooming! Don't go there!!! Cruelty is ok :( Grooming manager Elaine, groomer (dark haired female, in her 30's) no name tag, and store manager Mark, all thought it was ok to let the groomer hold a dog by her ear, and using a comb, rip the matted hair out of the dog! This was done in a harsh and rushed manner. There was nothing gentle not caring in this treatment. After going inside to talk about the treatment and receiving a "oh, I've got it handled" response from Elaine, I went to find the store manager. The store manager Mark said sometimes that's necessary! I've owned dogs for 29 years and even if there was a mat, would NEVER RIP THE FUR OUT LIKE THIS GROOMER WAS DOING! Detangler, scissors, and even the razor would be alternatives! The poor dog had her tail under and for the life of me, I don't know why she tolerated this. The dog had long fur on her head (4-5 inches) and this has to hurt. I wish I could have waited for her owner to appear. Not one care was given by the three. I'm confident that if the the owner saw this, they would never bring the dog back. Go somewhere else!!! Marcia and Anna at Petco are a good choice - they won't hurt your dog! This is the only place I take my dogs to get groomed. An 11 year old dachshund and 8 month poodle. The staff is good. The new manager Shana is amazing and really cares about the animals and the quality of the grooming her staff gives. My dogs never loved getting groomed but with Shana they go right in to start their baths. They also took very good care and were very gentle with my recently passed, blind, 14 year old poodle who had a lot of eye issues. Been going here 7 years and won't go anywhere else. I went to get my puppy her first bath and made an appointment. When I got there they checked her in and told me it would take an hour. I came back an hour later and they hadn't even started!!! They said they had a walk-in and for some reason walk ins get priority!!? This makes no sense! Why even make an appointment! They had no answer for me! I recently took my German Shepherd to get some grooming services. I was told about the "Furminator" by the staff. This service has completely changed our lives! Liam used to shed non stop, I would vacuum and sweep daily just to keep the hair under control. With this procedure I notice when I sweep that there isn't much hair. I even noticed my allergies have gotten better! I plan on bringing him again. The staff was so nice and the groomer "VALERIA" did an amazing job. read more

We used to live right on the border of SJC and Dana Point; and we love this place. I greatly miss Stephanie, but man is Ryan a fantastic trainer. And all the staff are so friendly and always remember my dogs. And they are genuinely interested in what we have to say.
