PetSmart? More like PetSHART. I purchased a few betta fish from Petsmart and after several months decided I would rather not have them. Called up the Petsmart phone number for this location, and I believe the line for fish specifically, and some guy told they don't accept fish back at all. I tried to ask if he knew of any facilities that accept unwanted fish and this half-wit told me I should "Google" it. Talk about an ignorant and unhelpful staff member. If your job is to provide information about fish care and ownership, you should at least know of a few places to bring unwanted fish, or have a few names on hand to refer pet owners to. Imagine if I got lazy or frustrated and just killed my fish because I couldn't think of any other ways to get rid of them and the staff couldn't provide useful insight. Petsmart - please fire this guy or demote him to being on the janitorial staff. Luckily, this story has a good ending - I called PETCO in Irvine and they immediately told me they were willing to accept any unwanted fish. I brought them in and they put them up for adoption. Because guess what, PETCO is a real professional pet store that doesn't operate strictly on making profits and actually cares about your pets and giving people a humane option for getting rid of your fish. PetSmart thinks they are above that. Oh and another note - a few of the other staff members come across like they belong more in a Hot Topic than a pet store. We just had finished the puppy classes with her and it was one of the most informative and entertaining classes ever ! The hour goes by so fast and you learn so much from her! Ariel is also super flexible if you cant make it to all the classes! She is one of the most positive and energetic individuals that I have ever met! 3.5 stars With these big chain stores, it really comes down to mainly location and service since the consistency of the store itself should be pretty universal. Well, if they aren't even that, that's another story. But have no fear! This PetSmart delivers. Came in for a drop off of a grooming appointment and everything went fine. We were gone all day and told them we'd be late picking them up but assured them we'd be back before closing. They proceeded to give us a reminder call as well, which was nice. Otherwise, the store was well stocked, well lit and organized. The manager reminded us that with a grooming appointment a free squeaky toy was available to us which was a fun freebie. She helped me pick out the perfect fish for our office fish tank. Petsmart is an enormous store where you can pretty much find anything for your pets that you're looking for. I've purchased food, toys and bedding here and we've also used their grooming services for our 3 small dogs. Although I do like to support my locally owned petshop, I do go to Petsmart to buy the things that the smaller shop doesn't carry. read more

Big, spacious, but they haven't re-stocked on new doggie harnesses or leashes in a long time. I like that you can make your doggie tags right in the store and all the employees are very helpful! We've been coming here ever since we decided to buy an aquarium, with an intent to substitute for a puppy and we've always been able to find cool looking fish, decorations, gravel, and different food for them. Pets mart is the worst place as customer service their stuff might be 50 cents or 1 dollar cheaper than the other pets shop but its not worth of customer service for return and etc, specially this location, they hire either handy cap people or too old who doesn't know computer stuff, 6 months a go they had some one she had flue and keep coughing too infant of all customers, im not sure if the management was the same before or the same one but still there is so much problem here, even the one in el camino real is similar to here. I've been to this Petsmart a few times now. The employees seem like they don't like their jobs or don't get paid enough to care. I asked a simple question about dog food and they didn't really bother to check to see if they had it. The response was "Umm I don't think so?" I also asked a question about vaccinations and what days they had the pet clinic available. Again... the response was "I'm not quite sure, I think maybe Thursday?" As an employee I feel they should be more knowledgeable about the products and events that their store provides. I just feel as though I shouldn't have to ask them to double check things to get the correct information out of them. Well this is a first. I was denied a purchase today of a red devil cichlid because I have a 35 gallon and not a 40. You do know they grow into tanks it's does not automatically need a 40 gallon tank. I like walking my dog here. My dog has a habit of picking up random twigs, rocks, leaves, etc. when we go on regular walks so at least here, there's nothing to find on the floor. There's a good selection of goods here. They told us once that this was the district store so it's supposed to be fabulous. We always get a toy when we're here. The fish seem fairly okay. At least the Oranda fish I got is holding up well. Which brings me to another thought. I think it's funny that every Petsmart checks to see how many gallons your tank is and how many fishies are in there before they'll sell you a fish. You see, when you're like me and you already know they'll ask, you lie, lie, lie. My tank is not a 30 gallon, and I have more than one fish in my tank. Ha! I've outwitted the Petsmart. Oh, and no, I don't want to enroll my dog in dog training as we're already enrolled in another store. That bugs me because I feel like everytime I go to a Petsmart and an employee greets my dog, it's really to sell me training, grooming or daycare. She should wear a shirt, "I'm already enrolled in your class!" But that said, this store is quite clean and the selection is great, in terms of toys. The people are usually friendly and they're pretty good about getting more cashiers when it's busy. read more

I'm not into salt water aquariums yet (but I may want to in the future), but they don't have much of a salt water tank setup besides some salt mixtures. My gf is a fan of the doggy day care area where you can see all the dogs run around. It is a shame not all locations have this. The strange thing is the prices here are typically cheaper than the same store in the Tustin Marketplace. You would assume the computer systems are linked, but they are not. Just today I went to the Tustin Marketplace location to look for a Fluval Spec 5 fish tank. It was there for about $80. I showed them a photo of the price tag from the District location indicating $50. No go, they said it was an expired tag. Fine, I'll just drive the 5 minutes to the District location. Please note this review is for Grooming! The store and the training are fabulous, and I am still really upset about my grooming experience! I asked about the puppy cut for my Pom and clipping I didn't know anything and clearly the gal behind the desk didn't either!!! Now I know you aren't supposed to clip Poms because of their double coat ( you would think you would be told that and if I was I never would have had it done) now my poor baby is all patchy I have been working hard to get his coat back but I am doubting it ever will. Also, I asked the gal to speak to the groomer as he wasn't there yet she said she would have him call me ( he didn't ). The grooming is usually a hit or miss. My dogs usually look great and the staff make bows for their hair. Twice they shaved too much hair on my dog they made her look like a rat dog. I had to recut her hair another time because they forgot some spots. I also hate how they charge me an extra $10 for matted hair when my dogs don't have that much matting. They should say it upfront when they're checking the dogs out instead of leaving me with a surprise on the bill. read more

I have been going to this Petsmart for their grooming service mainly because its a mile away from me. And lately, I only use Maribel because Bronx is always happy and excited when I pick him up. She does a great job and he always looks cute. I have had others groomed him and when i pick him up, he's tired and just wants to sleep. How much do you love your dog? If you love them and care for them DO NOT BRING THEM IN TO THE GROOMERS!!! To begin with they take hours in having your dog ready and not only that they mistreat the dogs pulling them yelling at them I have witnessed them mistreating the dogs. And i always hope that they never mistreat my dog. Well that day has come took my dog in today and Alberto was the one who was going to groom my baby and well Alberto doesn't know what he's doing and cut my dogs ear! And saying that my dog got distracted and moved his head. I'm mean first of all obviously he's a dog they moves around. You just need to be extra careful and make sure your not the one distracted and cut the dog. I know accidents happen but it shouldn't be to this extent so I advise you guys to Not bring your dog here and especially do not book with Alberto! read more

I do like this pet store. I think the only thing I have noticed consistently is that it takes a while to check out. As in, it takes a while for me to get up to the front of the line, & then I see why because my transaction, although only a couple things, still takes a little longer than other stores. Not necessarily other PetSmart LOCATIONS, but more time that other pet stores I frequent. I usually go to the Pestmart at the Marketplace in Tustin, but this place was so close to my office, I figured I'd just go to this one, and I was WOW'd! I came in, initially not so wow'd (it looked almost identical to the El Camino Real location) so I picked up the treats and collar, after a pleasant 'Hi! How are you?' by the cashier. Usually, when I stop by Petsmart, the people look MISERABLE, but this lady was very friendly. So I conitnued on my journey to check out, and I asked her what her return policy was, and she clearly explained it to me in lamen's terms. And I had a couple more questions about the gentle leader I wanted to buy. She was so informative without being pushy. She seemed like she really wanted to help. (Who wouldn't want to help a little puppy?) And I got a nice training flyer. (They offer training@petsmart) I'd definetly come back to this one. This lady was mighty nice and knowledgable! read more

PLEASE ADOPT A CAT! i volunteer at the pet adoption center there once a week and my heart breaks when i see the kitties for more than a month. they don't have much space to move around and it's hard for them to play with their toys inside their cages. i don't know what the circumstances are so i shouldn't judge, but i wish they had more room. i mean, the dog grooming area is pretty huge! of course, any space is better than no space at all so i think petsmart is great for at least giving up the space. i've never shopped there but i had to get my cat some kitty litter one day, and since i was there i figured i'd pick some up. maybe i didn't look around enough but all i could find was big, bulky bags of litter. i use the one time bags because we don't have room to store those huge bags. i ended up having to go to ralph's instead. but they do have a nice toy selection! read more

This review is for the grooming. 5 stars for petsmart store, 4 for grooming. **review for grooming** Afrer having so much trouble at the other Petsmart at the marketplace, I decided to take Bosley here for his grooming. The groomer who ended up taking Bosley named Oscar, was super attentive and actually seemed to care about what I wanted with Bosley's haircut. I specifically told him that I did not want Bosley shaved and he understood and decided to just do scissor work on him instead of using a clipper. When I came back to pick him up, he looked FANTASTIC! Bosley was ecstatic and seemed to be in a great mood after his grooming session. Oscar did exactly what I told him and I was super satisfied with his work. if you want your pet groomed by Petsmart, DO NOT GO TO THE ONE IN THE MARKETPLACE! The groomers there are all so rude and unattentive. Instead, just make the extra 5 minute drive here to the Tustin District and leave your dog in the hands of groomers who actually care. The second time I took Bos here to get groomed, Oscar was unfortunately off but a new groomer named Shaila ended up taking him and she did great work and was so attentive. She was super sweet and really listened to what I wanted. Thanks for making Bos look so handsome! I'll definitely be back! read more

This place is great, I always come here to buy food toys etc for my two dogs, they always are having some kind of sale so I save some money every time I come here. I also take my pets here to the vet at banfield, it's great I pay 40 dollars a month and my dogs shots are cover and check ups are covered too and I get discounts on flea medications. The only thing I don't like about petsmart is their grooming, it's overpriced and it's not al that good, other than that this store is awesome lol read more

My pet list includes: Betas Turtles Hamster Dog And I've been able to get supplies for all of those pets at this Petsmart. Currently I have no pets. Although a bird looks interesting. My kids love coming here just to look at the pets. I am not ready to commit to one yet, not even a Beta at the moment. Plus my kids aren't old enough to ask for one yet. I fear that day. Wow, this place is huge! I came here because my friend asked me to get her a plant for her fishtank. The moment I walked in, I was blown away. There's so much stuff here! I was in the fish section and there was just so much in stock. I walked around for a little bit and I noticed that, for a store that allows pets, it's a super clean and well-kept place. They seem to have quality pet supplies at a decent price. Some of the employees here seemed bored with their jobs, but others seemed happy. I don't know, maybe some of them are just having bad days. I loove this Petsmart. All the workers here are soo nice and they always have what I want, which is usually just the cat litter and cat food that I get every 1.5 months-2months. I started coming to Petsmart because Petco is ridiculously overpriced. Petco sold a 30lb thing of cat litter for $16.99 with the Petco Pet pals card while Petsmart sold it for $6.99 with the Pet Perks card. RIDICULOUS! Everything at Petco seems to be $10-$15 more expensive! The great thing about Petsmart is that they take expired coupons as well as competitor coupons. I just bring the Petco coupons I get in the mail to Petsmart. I've never had a problem with it. This location is the best. It's clean and doesn't smell like animals all day even though they have cats available for adoption. read more

Didn't get the name of the lady but she had pink hair and she was quick and efficient and was able to process the refund with no problem. I had gone to the location on El Camino but the supervisor there told me he couldn't refund it for me. This Petsmart definitely follows through in the quality that I've known for many years. Their staff is always friendly (you get greeted immediately by anyone (even the cashier who could be ringing a customer up) standing near the entrance when you walk in this particular one...kinda Walmart like but it's nice) and always helpful. And it's fully staffed as has been any other Petsmart I've been. This Petsmart is super clean as are the others and very well stocked. They have some specialty aquarium items I would usually have to buy online but Petsmart carries it. Their prices are unbeatable. Once in awhile someone else has it cheaper but usually Petsmart beats them all in price. I'm giving this Petsmart major props because they have the most amazing fish guy. Can't remember his name but he's the black haired gentleman in the fish area. He's the one who helped save some of my fish from the dreaded Ich because of the infection I got from the Petco at Irvine Center Drive/Culver Drive. And he's probably the most knowledgeable fish person I've ever encountered at a pet store chain. Their cat food supply variety could be better. I don't know if it's a contractual thing but I wish they carried more high end cat foods. Centinela in Costa Mesa on Harbor is fabulous for that. Sorry to read about the grooming department. That sucks. I also don't really trust the Banfields inside either. But Petsmart as a supply facility rules! read more

Wow. I was completely blown away by the knowledge of the staff on cat food. The manager here is doing a really good job of finding knowledgeable staff. To be honest, I spoke with a store clerk first, and she went and got an animal trainer. The trainer, though, she knew everything! She knew which brands had low fiber, the difference between soluble and insoluble fiber, which brands had small amounts of fish in the chicken flavored food, that raw food had psyllium in it, the different theories on diet for cats with certain afflictions. The only bad thing I noticed about Petsmart is that they tend to carry more low- to medium-grade food. Petco carries higher end stuff. This is not a complaint about this specific Petsmart, though. It is like that across all Petsmarts, as they cater more to the average pet owner's budget. read more

Really disappointing visit. After having an excellent experience at the Lake Forest store this was less than desirable. Very abrupt cashier experience, no "hello" just "phone number". Wanted to buy a dog harness which had no tag or packaging, it was priced at $26 so i decided not to buy and after looking at the website it was actually on clearance for $13..Disappointed as i would have purchased it. Just had an extremely odd, unprofessional experience. Had a pick up order and was told to go to the cashier and NOT to wait in line. This particular cashier asked me to turn an alarm off another register, which was very bizarre. After a few more customers were helped I chimed in and asked if I should be standing in line since I was being ignored. She gave a snarky response that she had to help other customers. That's fine, but then why am I just standing here when I paid for it to be ready. Isn't it for people in a rush? Went back to the original employee in the reptile section and they were very apologetic and nice. Said a manager was coming up and I should tell them about the alarm thing. Finally someone was willing to help me,but showed no interest in the weird pick up situation. This isn't the first time the customer service has been below standards at this location. Think I will be doing my future purchases on Chewy or Petco. Suggestion: work on your order pick ups. That's the way of the future.
