We stopped by before a concert in The Woodlands for a late lunch/early dinner. It's a pretty massive space inside with lots of tables and probably a good spot for large groups/events if they allow. In terms of the service, the person waiting our table was very friendly and provided recommendations on dishes we should try and what the restaurant was known for. However, the quality of the food was lackluster for the price. The roti chanai was a decent starter - warm, able to pull apart nicely with your hands and dip in the curry sauce, and not overly pricey. Just enough for two people to enjoy as well. The Ck Teow stir fried noodle dish was the highlight of the meal for me. It came in a large portion - more than enough for two people to share and have leftovers. The noodles were cooked well and came with shrimp, squid, sausage, and bean sprouts. The squid wasn't my favorite due to its rubbery texture, but it could just be my personal preference. The flavor of the dish was also pretty smoky, which can become a bit overpowering the more you eat it. The Hainanese chicken (with a side of rice not pictured) was a big letdown. It came out lukewarm and lacked flavor. The rice, which had a lovely aroma from the spices used, was equally lacking in taste and needed more salt. My reason for a 3 rating is primarily because the price for everything between 2 people was steep for the quality of the food on this day. read more

A group of neighbors decided to eat at Phat Eatery because several raved about it at the time of it's opening months ago. The food was delicious and unique. We enjoyed the steak and refried rice with shrimp! The service was very good and we all believed the prices were reasonable. We will definitely be returning to enjoy it again. read more

This place has it all... service, style, and, most importantly, incredibly creative and delicious food. Service: everyone from the hostess team to the servers was warm, and genuinely welcoming. The servers were polished, efficient, and anticipatory, which really is rare outside of Michelin starred restaurants. Our party of 8 1/2 ordered several appetizers: Roti with Curry Chicken Dip, Roti Canai, Satay Beef Skewers, Salt and Pepper Calamari, and Cold Shrimp with Shredded Papaya and Mango. Oohs and ahhhs abounded as we tore through every delicious bite. For entrees, we tried the Award Winning Beef Rendang, Sizzling Beef with Black Pepper, Curry Vegetable Casserole, Snow Pea Tips and Spinach with Garlic, and Pineapple Fried Rice. With the exception of the fried rice (which was vastly under seasoned,) every dish was delicious. Standouts were the Famous Beef - oh so tender and flavorful with a unique spice profile - and the Vegetable Casserole whose textures were meaty and substantial, each bite enrobed in a silky sublime curry sauce. The atmosphere was very cool! The lit signs and dark soaring ceilings lend to an air of dining outdoors on a bustling Malaysian street at night. We were disappointed that there was no dim sum on the menu, but that just gives us a reason to return. And we WILL return. read more

I would like to highlight my positive experiences as a repeated customer here. I appreciate the exceptional service and quality of food offered at this restaurant. My favorite drink is the lychee margarita and my favorite dishes are the beef rendang and CK Teow, which has always been consistent. In addition, the staff have all been very friendly with a positive attitude. The addition of this Asian establishment in the area has enhanced the local dining options because it contributes to a more diverse culinary scene, which can be beneficial for the community here in Spring/Woodlands. The dishes were delicious. We started with the Roti Canai and salt & pepper calamari. Both were very good. We ordered 2 noodle dishes. The Mee Goreng and Hokkien Mee. Both noodle dishes were very good. I liked the Mee Goreng a little better but I would order both. We ordered the mango chicken and sizzling beef. Both entrees were very good. The mango chicken was a little spicier. The service was okay. We thought we had a good waiter but he sort of forgot a few things after taking things from the table such as rice, iced tea, and large bottle of water. Not sure if it became too busy for him. Easy parking at lunchtime, and the place was nicer and larger than expected. We are familiar with Malaysian food and ordered the chicken satay, mee goreng and nasi lemak. The satay and sauce were quite good. Nasi Lemak - the rice and ikan bilis tasted authentic but the chicken tasted dry and stale. Mee Goreng was disappointing - again, the chicken tasted stale and inedible, the noodles were quite tasty but the dish was a departure from what we had in Malaysia. Some of THE BEST food I have ever had! Everything was new and interesting and absolutely delicious! Great margarita and appetizer Roti with Curry Chicken Dip - Roti is like eating delicious air and the Curry Chicken incredibly flavorful. While we all tasted each other's main courses, the Chili Prawn was almost too good to share, and you could turn up the heat if you like spice. Honestly, this place is going to do well. Don't pay attention to the one-star reviews, as they've been open for less than a week at this location and there are always minor issues that need to be addressed with ANY new establishment - anyone who says different has not worked the service industry before and it comes off as a little entitled to those of us who have. We ordered 5 dishes (hainanese chicken, char kway teow, sizzling beef, belacan kang kung/water spinach, and roti canai) and a handful of drinks amongst our party and everything was on par with their original location - great! It was my first time visiting Phat Eatery and it definitely won't be my last. Everything was wonderful from the restaurant's decor to the food itself. Kirby was my server and she spent several minutes with me running down what was on the menu. She gave me many good suggestions on what to get and we had some lovely conversations. The Roti Canai was great. However the Mee Goreng absolute disaster. By far the worst Meegoreng I have had. Smelled atrocious and tasted just like the smell. Mushy noodles, no sauce or seasoning, and the waiter took 20 min to check on us therefore I could not even reorder. I wanted to like it but even the flies didn't like it. This is in the old Fuddrucker's building in the under renovation Grogan's Mill Shopping Village. They did an EXCELLENT job at totally gutting the place and redoing the exterior as well. Plus repaving parking lot near restaurant. Inside bar on right with open kitchen on left greets you as you walk back to your table. We went early midweek. Started with two all natural (no sugar added ) juices over ice in a pint Mason jar. The Passion Fruit/Pineapple one and the Watermelon/Pear one. They both were excellent. The natural fruit flavors shown through. Well balanced too. Waitress informed us that they are bought from vendor. Not made in house. Waitress was very casually friendly/chit chatty. I get the impression that is the atmosphere they are training for. While helpful, unfortunately she hasn't eaten any of the dishes. Management needs to offer full menu tasting with training in order to help those not overly familiar with cuisine. The paper menus are stamped "draft" because even though opened for two months. They are still considering this a "soft opening ". They do not have the full menu implemented yet. Missing Dim Sum. She did inform us that nothing was really Chile hot spicy (including those labeled so). But they offer 5 different heat levels. Take them at their word and order desired heat accordingly. We chose not to add any heat as our first time to our own disappointment. Also accurately informed us that most dishes are sized for two people. Food here is served SE Asian style. Meaning not only to be shared but food brought out as prepared . In no particular order either. So you should Start eating as soon as first dish arrives. Do not wait until everything gets there. It doesn't work that way! It doesn't really work if each individual orders their own dish either. While they have metal chop sticks (short and heavy like fancy Chinese. Not long and thin like Korean). I found it best to eat with silverware. And I'm pretty good with chopsticks too. Now for the food we ordered. Roti Canai. This is a MUST ORDER DISH FOR EVERYONE. ROLLED AND FOLDED AND ROLLED AGAIN then bunched up into a "flower" before baking. This is puffy, light soft interior. Mildly crunchy chewy exterior. Freshly made piping hot. Dipped into the herbal green room temperature curry sauce. Divine. Sitting at the bar, this could become addictive snack. Award winning Beef Rendang. And yes it deserves that label. Fork tender moist beef cubes braised in a coconut milk curry. Curry is cooked down until "dry". Coating beef. Fried cubes of potatoes in dish as well. This is another dish EVERYONE should order. Personally I would not add any heat to this dish A tin of plain jasmine rice accompanies meal for free. Goes well with beef. Kang Kung. Water Spinach sautéed in a Belacan sauce (contains dried fermented shrimp). Sauce was not as strong/funky as I prefer. I think most of menu is somewhat "Americanized tastes". While cooked well and tender. I was disappointed in quality of the water spinach produce itself. Lots of larger stems, not many leaves. I've had better at many places in BellIaire Asia Town as this is my go to Chinese vegetable. Perhaps it's the weather or August growing season? I will give it a second try. But ask for level 2 heat next time. CK Teow. I was very disappointed in this dish. Mostly very chewy (rubber erasers) very large chunks of calamari (not the thin tender sautéed calamari one finds in Rhode Island/CT). I counted just two baby shrimp. The Malaysian sausage is a thinly sliced dried sausage with a sweet taste. Very good. Would have liked a little more. Overall. Way way too much squid. Virtually no shrimp. Needs more noodles and sausage to bring into better balance. Also need to order Level 1 added heat. The house made wide. But short noodles are excellent. I will try a different noodle dish on my next visit. Table next to us ordered Sizzlingly beef which smelled and looked great! Glad this new establishment is here in The Woodlands as it fills a cuisine void. Not only will I definitely come back to try the sizzling tofu, Nasi Lemak, Malay Hor Fun, Award Winning Kerrabu Prawn, Dim Sum. But I can see this on my regular rotation of restaurants here in The Woodlands. Finally, the waitress took the food away to be boxed. Loved the ambiance! Super upbeat! Sat on the enclosed in door patio. My boyfriend had the the Phat Old Fashioned and I had the L.A.X. They did not last long! The L.A.X. Was amazing.... Loved the exotic flavors and it was not too sweet....simply refreshing and delicious! Moved on from there to the Chicken Roti which was absolutely delicious! If you like curry it's a must try! The main entrees arrived which was sweet basil beef. I would say a little heavy on what I think might have been oyster sauce. Not a fan of this one. The beef was tender though. Then there was the coconut shrimp. Not what most are used to but so good! They are coated which what I would describe as a funnel cake dust as a topping. The snow pea leaves which is one of my favorite veggies were amazingly fresh and sautéed perfectly with a subtle garlic flavor. Super savor and good! Lastly we ordered their version of coconut rice. It was very tasty and a little spicy in flavor. It looked like a deconstructed fried rice. All in all very good food! The service was also great.
