Still 5 stars. Fast service/delivery, excellent food. Can't wait to check out the new party room when it is open.

We fired our other neighborhood pizza spot that's just steps from Phil's, so decided to try Phil's Pizza. We've been in the neighborhood for 4 years now and now I'm mad we haven't tried Phil's sooner! I was pleasantly surprised by the menu! There were a lot of things that I definitely have to try on future orders. What I did get a chance to try was a deep dish. We did half sausage and half onion/green peppers. My husband brought the pizza home and that boy was a thicky. It weighed like 20 pounds lol. I actually had quite a hard time getting that first slice onto my plate because the cheese was so cheesy! What a good problem to have, but it did stress me out, not gonna lie lol! I actually went and got a pair of scissors to "cut the cheese." The tomato sauce was bombbbb. Sometimes you get a pizza and the sauce is just meh, you know? Well, it wasn't the case here. It had just the right amount of saltiness. The green peppers and onions had just the right amount of crunch. Ugh- so good! I really enjoyed my slice! Leftovers were really good (heated in the air fryer). I really hope food and service won't disappoint in the future. I will surely edit my review after trying more food from Phil's!

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. You can find all kinds of things for the house or to gift someone whether it's food, a cookie jar, something imported from Italy, or a homemade meal. You'll find something for everyone.

The selection of shelved goods, many many many imported, is delightful and I really love shopping there. (Sorry, no pictures this time! I was enjoying my food so much that I completely forgot.) The ambiance is welcoming, bright, and modern, and the restaurant is much larger than I expected. Everything was clean, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. I ordered the Lox Plate, and it was outstanding. The salmon had the perfect texture and seasoning, the cucumbers and bagel were fresh, and all of the flavors paired together beautifully. I love seeing lox on a menu, but many restaurants either don't do it well or serve portions that are too small. Here, everything was spot on, and the portion was generous enough that I left completely satisfied. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal, and my husband and I have already said we'll be back very soon. This restaurant is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood, especially since there aren't many local breakfast spots nearby that aren't part of a chain. Highly recommend!

That said, there are so many options, particularly for this vegetarian and egg hater. Pro tip: Make a reservation! The place had a solid wait from the time we arrived until we left. Service was ok, spotty at bits, but I also attribute it to the place being busy. We had to ask a second time for some missing items. To eat, I got the berry crepes and a side of hash browns with cheese. My friend got the eggs Benedict with a side of pancakes. The crepes were very good, but I preferred the bites without the berry mascarpone filling. The side of pancakes my friend got was huge, this would be plenty as a main. They are very good at accommodating larger parties, but do wait to seat you until your party is all there.

I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.
