The vibe is cute spacious open. Great for working/studying. My personal experience has been that the service is off and on, and therefore the drinks are off and on.. the afternoon crew for whatever reason just seems more outgoing and relaxed maybe because they're not as busy with the morning rush. I tested a theory out. I've bought multiple drink drinks where I've tipped.... And I'm a usual tipper. And then I had a few times where I didn't tip just to see if the drinks were made differently. Sure as shit they were loaded up with ice to the top, very heavy and you only get a few sips of the drink... so I'm paying almost 8 dollars for ice. I told myself I was gonna try their entire menu because for the first time in years I actually fell in love with some of their coffee. But after having now six terribly made drinks and three perfectly made drinks. I think I know that the bad out weighs the good and I'm gonna become a once in a rare moment customer. They don't need me clearly they have enough people craving their addictions. Lol. It's just disappointing when you find a place that you enjoy going. But you keep feeling ripped off every time you order. I tipped 6 out of the 9 times just to see about the ice and I don't know if I can chalk it up to coincidence any more. Anyway, I guess it's a blessing in disguise to save money and go back to making my coffee at home. I will say Philz has good marketing though. The way their menu presents. Their drinks is nearly exactly what you get which I love visually. I think the brown cups are perfect because you can't see the coffee or the ice inside of the cup. Places like Starbucks have these extravagant photos, but you never get a drink that looks like a photo. I don't know if you have but I never have. I usually go here for good coffee made well by their baristas. I've written it before and I'll write it again - "not all baristas are made equal". We dropped by on a Friday and the staff was getting ready to close shop. There was no other customer in sight. It was my first time to encounter this barista. She was in such in a hurry and never even asked if my coffee was okay in case it needed some revisions. This time, the taste of my coffee was so disappointing and sad. We stopped on our way to Santa Cruz and as usual, a perfect cup of coffee. This location has excellent shopping center parking, easy to get to from the hwy, and is a bright, spacious place to sit and enjoy before hitting the road again. The cafe itself is a good size with decent amount of seating for people studying or just enjoying a cup of coffee. The drink tastes wonderful, but when I went to go pay, she said that they no longer accept cash. And I was taken back. But I still purchased what I came here to purchase. I work for a small business. Highly recommend ordering ahead on their mobile app. I always order an iced philtered haze extra sweet and extra creamy! I love me some Philz Coffee. They have some really nice drinks and their burritos are pretty good too. It's also convenient that it's a 2 min drive away from my job, so it's nice to get a coffee before my shift starts. The inside is very nice, and pretty huge for a cafe. I even like the metal wall decoration they have on there, it makes it look fancy. So why the 3 stars? I usually order through their app, but it takes forever for the app to load, and ordering it through the website makes it a little more pricey than it's supposed to. And to make matters worse, you have to pay for parking, and if you don't, you could get a parking ticket (which happened to me today when I went to get Philz). So 3 stars for that reason. I noticed it was an iced sweet tea with cream so I politely asked the mobile order counter to remake it. They were cool about it, and I even mentioned that it's supposed to be hot tea even tho it was a hot day hehe. She remade it, passed it back to me and -- although it was chamomile tea this time -- I noticed it had ice in it again. I kinda laughed it off and told the staff it's supposed to be hot tea, again. She proceeded to steep and make it again, apologizing for the mistake, of course. Another stop on our coffee pilgrimage. Ok, I understand Philz is extremely popular and I was excited to try them. We arrived at 11:10 on a Saturday morning. This place was "Philzed" with people. We were unclear where to go to order because there is a bar of baristas to the right upon entering making drinks., and no clear line of people placing orders. A sign directed us deeper into the cafe to place our order, but no one was there to take an order. Swiftly, a young man said he'd be right with us. And he was, and he was super friendly and seemed very happy to be working here. The line begins forming behind us--we got here just in the nick of time! The menu offered several iced coffee drinks, and the ginger snap looked good to me, but I wanted it hot. Our server enthusiastically said it's delicious warm, too. So I ordered that with almond milk. Husband ordered the same. And he had a twice-baked almond croissant, I had the bacon onion croissant. Both were "toasted." The baked goods came available quickly, but we didn't hear our name called. I thought I heard my name called about 3 minutes after placing our order--but it wasn't for me. Hubby went into the main area after about 5 minutes and found our pastries on the counter with the name Lauren--his name is Warren, so he confirmed they were, indeed, ours. He brought them to me and went back to see about the coffees, because it's just insanely busy. The croissants were not warm, but they were crispy. I like to eat my food with my coffee, but still waiting on that. So I started to eat. I have to say, very delish! After about 15 minutes, we finally got the coffee. Hubby was chatting it up with our Barista, and he said she was also extremely pleasant and clearly was enjoying her job. Love that! My drink had zero sweetener. When I placed the order, our server mention it comes with sweetener, and so I was surprised. It had a lot of the spices, nutmeg prominent (and that gives me a little bit of a numbing sensation to my tongue--but not to Hubby--I must have a little allergy). Anyway, I went to get some sugar and they don't have it out for customers to grab. I asked our Barista, Juno, if I could get some sugar and she happily said sure and offered several options. I selected the brown sugar, which she popped into a cup and added a bit of water to dissolve it. Very accommodating! I poured it in my drink and liked it much better. So, five star service here for sure! Lost a star for the slow and disjointed delivery, I think the drink was ok, but not sure why this place is so popular, and for me, not a fan of this particular store. I love this place so much! I make a 30min detour to get coffee here before work at least once a week, and it always hits the spot! The staff is super sweet and welcoming, and they always take care to make sure my customizations are right. I don't like espresso lattes, and this is the only place that offers flavored coffees that are comparable to other coffee shops' latte selections. The vibes are great and I often camp out to work on my laptop in the cozy seating area. Order ahead and schedule your pickup time if you're in a rush, or order in if you'll be hanging out for a while! The wait time is long if you're ordering in person - but they're popular for a reason! I'm officially a Philz convert now. I adore Philz and this location has never let me down. Staff are always very friendly, plenty of parking, atmosphere is lively and welcoming, lots of seating, and strong coffee. Sometimes they're out of beans or certain blends which is a little disappointing. I wanted to grab some Philtered Soul grounds today but they didn't have any :( Love that they had bottled cold brew available for sale instead. Maybe it's placebo effect, but their coffee seems to be at least twice as strong as other coffee shops... and I love it. I'm a caffeine-fiend. I can down a Monster or Celsius or Quad shot latte and not feel anything, but for some reason, the cold brews at Philz gets me. In Walnut Creek on a Sunday with our sons to celebrate our future daughter-in-law's birthday, we ended up at Philz for some coffee after brunch. They had me at parking - a nice shared lot with abundant spaces - an endangered Walnut Creek species! My son is a Philz veteran at this location, but this was our first time. My wife and I rarely go to Philz, as there is none nearby, while a Starbucks and Peets are right around the corner. I ordered my favorite Mint Mojito while our son suggested my wife try an item from the "secret menu", Cinnamon Toast Crunch! (Fortunately, it's not *too* secret because the barista knew it immediately). We specified "sweet and creamy" for both. Another thing I like about this Philz is its fairly large seating area - we easily found a corner space for the six of us (mid Sunday afternoon might've had something to do with this). Soon our drinks came and they were delicious - turns out" sweet and creamy" is right up our alley! With good coffee and no need to rush we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon. I come here once in a while during my lunch break. Service is friendly. Coffee is solid, though not cheap, but that's to be expected at a Philz. There is ample seating both inside and outside. What I think they need more of, is staff making the coffee. I can't wait 15-20 minutes for a coffee during my break. Part of the problem is that all the drinks being made were mobile orders. There was a row of them, unclaimed, while a handful of people who ordered in store were patiently waiting for their drinks. After 5 minutes to order and another 15 minutes waiting for my drink, I gave up and left so I wouldn't be marked as late at work. Out $7 because they don't have adequate staff and the prioritization of in store vs mobile ordering isn't optimized. read more
