Service: 2 stars Knowing that they are extremely busy on weekends, I ordered ahead online to avoid a long wait. Placed order at 1:20pm; online ordering system told me it would be ready at 1:45pm. Got to the store and had to wait another TWENTY FIVE minutes for my drink, received at 2:10pm. So in total, 50 minutes from placing an online order until receiving a drink... It seems like they prioritize in store orders, as we saw one of our drinks partially made, sitting on their counter for about 10 minutes, while they worked on others. tl;dr - coffee is okay but definitely not worth the wait IMO. I drive from Oakland all the way to Sunnyvale for work and Phin Cafe in Fremont is in between the long drive - and it has made the drive so much more bearable and exciting for me to visit when I do go into the office! I absolutely love the modern vibes and aesthetics inside the restaurant. It's so clean and a great coffee shop to get some work done. When it does it get packed during rush hours, seats might not be available but it only happened once on a Thursday at 10AM. Other times, I was able to find a seat to do a quick meeting. Now for the food and drinks: 1. Vietnamese Coffee - 5/5 ($6.90) - Does the job 2. House Special with Egg Cream - 4/5 ($6.90) - It's much more bitter than the one's I've had, granted I did get less sweet (so that might be on me) 3. Pate Chaud Pork - 3/5 ($3.75 for one or $7.50 for two) - The pastry itself looks great but it's overall super dry, even the filling inside. When you bake pate chaud, you want the flavor of the filling in parts of the pastry inside and it's supposed to be soft on the inside and flaky from the pastry. I think they did a safe route and cooked the filling inside first and then baked it with the pastry. For the price though, I would still get it to munch in the morning! 4. Banh Mi Pate and Pork Roll - 4/5 ($9 with extra pate) - The Banh Mi itself tastes fresh, with a crunch to it but it doesn't hurt the roof of your mouth. The filling is FULL but they did skimp out on the veggies (I got veggies on side). I had to ask for another veggies on side bag for the other half of my banh mi. Phin Cafe is one of the best spots for Vietnamese Coffee in Fremont. Previously we'd have to go all the way down to San Jose for some quality Vietnamese Coffee, but now we don't have to go so far! Phin Cafe has an extensive menu with various versions of egg coffee, matcha latte's, banh mi's and more. I've tried the egg matcha and matcha ube and they do tend to be on the sweeter side so I'd recommend lowering the percentage of sugar you get with your drinks. It gets quite busy even on the weekdays so I'd recommend ordering in advance so you're not waiting for too long. read more

Phin Cafe is probably my favorite viet coffee establishment in Fremont. I do have some small qualms however, thus rating it a 4.5 but rounding down. The salted coffee is so good! I feel like it tastes a bit different than other viet coffees out there which says a lot since they all kind of have the same profile. I appreciate how the workers always ask if you prefer it less sweet, which is my way to go here. If you get lucky, the salted cream will be aesthetically swirled onto the cup. This is where some inconsistency comes into the picture though, as I had gotten it a second time and the salted cream was just slathered all over the cup messily; not sure if it was just bias but I felt like the drink tasted not as superior then as well. If you can snag a table, you can also order the Phin Coffee which comes with a cute little tray and coffee filter. The experience is awesome! I just wish there was more of the coffee. After I transferred the contents into the cup filled with ice, there was only half of the cup full. Though it was still tasty, I didn't get the usual jitters I get since the volume was so little. Additionally, I saw that they had pate chaud as a new offering! Yeah, I'd skip on this. I got pork and the filling was about 1 cm thick. Stopped by this location on the way to Santa Rosa and boy, am I glad we did! Spoiler, this might be my new favorite place to get Vietnamese coffee. We got an Egg Coffee, Pandan Coffee, and Spam Masubi. I got the Egg Coffee and it was the perfect blend of sweetness and caffeine. I love the punch of Vietnamese coffee and this drink did not disappoint! My partner got the Pandan Coffee and was not happy with the flavor (it was too much pandan for him). Lastly the spam masubi was a happy surprise. It had just enough sauce, rice and spam to be a lovely breakfast on-the-go. We will for sure be trying other locations! I'm curious how the flight is but it can only be drunk in-store. There were many people with laptops working in the cafe. There are some greeneries in the interior decor which makes it very pleasant to sit inside. We tried the Egg puffs which tasted more like pancake filling a little bit. It is soft instead of crunchy. It is not hollow inside like what I'm used to eating. I asked the barista for hot coffee drink recommendations and he recommended the Ube coffee. He said this is the least sweet compared to the egg coffee. I would like to try their hot food next time. I've been here several times now, and the drinks have been consistently excellent. So far I've tried the piña colada matcha, pandan coffee, egg coffee (less sweet), and coconut coffee (less sweet). Everything has been a hit! My recommendation is to order your drinks less sweet. It's the perfect level of sweetness. The only tweak I'd make is adding an extra shot of espresso to the coconut coffee. The food, unfortunately, didn't live up to the drinks. I tried a few of the bánh mì sandwiches, and the bread-to-filling ratio was way off. There just wasn't enough filling, and even after ordering extra veggies, it didn't seem like there were actually any extra added. If you're specifically craving a Vietnamese sandwich, I'd recommend driving about a mile up the road to Huong Sandwiches instead. That said, I still want to come back and try more of their food menu because the drinks alone keep bringing me back. The café itself is adorable. I love the modern design and all the greenery throughout the space. It's clean, quiet enough to study or work, and has about 7 small tables, making it ideal for solo visits or small groups of up to four people. It's kind-of in a nondescript mall. I ordered the Pandan Coffee and it was sweet and creamy. They have lots of flavors like ube and durian, too, and food like spam musubi and egg puffs. The matcha and coffee here are both excellent, and I genuinely enjoy the drinks. Unfortunately, I'm giving 3 stars because of the customer service experience. I placed an online order and checked in when I arrived to pick it up. The cashier (a woman wearing glasses) barely acknowledged me, simply looked at the screen and said, "We're still working on it." After that, she continued taking new customer orders, and it appeared those drinks were being prepared before mine. A little later, another customer came in to pick up an online order, and one of the baristas immediately started making her drinks. By that point, I had already been waiting for over 20 minutes. I eventually flagged down one of the baristas in the back, who kindly apologized for the delay and quickly prepared my order. I appreciate how friendly and helpful the barista was, but the overall pickup process was frustrating and made it seem like my online order had been overlooked. I hope the store can provide additional training to ensure online pickup orders are handled more consistently and that customers are acknowledged and kept informed while they wait. read more

Even with it being lightly sweetened, the flavor still came through really well. Smooth and balanced, not overly sugary like some places tend to do. What really stayed with me though was the service. We came in close to closing without realizing it, and the staff still let us sit and enjoy our drinks without rushing us at all. Ever since my first Hawaii trip - when I fell in love with musubis - I've been trying to find one here in the Bay Area and this is the place to get it. I like their drinks but have been disappointed with the service lately. This visit my drink wasn't filled up and you can see there is already plenty of ice. Last time they told my boyfriend they couldn't make any drinks with alternative milk (when they had in the past). After he ordered a separate dairy drink for me then they came back and said they could make him a dairy free drink after all which was very frustrating. Always a great experience at Phin Cafe. Whenever I'm in the east bay, it is imperative that I stop by Phin Cafe for an iced banana matcha latte and pandan waffle. So far, the best banana matcha I've had as Phin uses top ingredients and makes everything fresh, nothing artificial. Refreshing and delicious! The pandan waffle is always served hot. I usually like to get a side of salted cream to dip my waffle into but totally forgot this morning. I live in south San Francisco, and Phin always makes the trip to Fremont worth it. The staff are always pretty friendly as well. I almost always get the Nutella Banana Coffee. Nutella Banana Coffee 8/10 - I like this drink a lot because it is more on the sweeter side. Even getting it less sweet it's still pretty sweet so I would not suggest this if you don't like your coffee too sweet. I appreciate that I get both flavors and that it has mashed bananas in the drink. Over time, I do think the service has gotten a bit slower, but that's likely due to how popular the cafe has gotten, so definitely be patient. I gave it a chance.. and I've been hooked on it ever since. I think the same day we ordered in the morning, I ended up ordering another one the same day. You get a sweet and creamy taste from the banana flavor, and earthy fresh notes from the matcha. It's so delicious! We also ordered the bbq pork bahn mi sandwich add pate, cut in half. I like the option to cut in half! If I wanted to I could save part of it for a snack later if I didn't finish. The only downside is that some of the meat is a little fatty. I dislike the fatty/chewy pieces in the sandwich. Not my preference. Otherwise the flavor of good and I love eating it with my home made chili oil!
