I've only tried their banana matcha so I can't speak to their coffee (which I've heard amazing things about), but this drink in particular is solid! I prefer a little stronger matcha flavor, but the quality was good. The banana cream top didn't taste artificial at all. They also have several seasonal drinks (I want to go back to try the piña colada matcha) and food items. The inside is pretty small, but super aesthetic, clean, quiet, great natural night, and there are several tables. I can envision it being a nice study spot too! I also left with a gift card for my roomie (this is one of her fave matcha spots in South Bay) and the staff member was kind and helpful.
I love getting egg coffee here especially when I'm around the area. Egg coffee is my go to and Phin Cafe is one of my favorites for them. I do like my coffee a little darker so here and there I will add an extra shot or ask for less sweet coffee. The staff is patient and super helpful when recommending drinks too. The cafe itself is so cute and my kiddos love it here. They especially enjoy the spam masubis.
Café Away A locally-owned specialty café that has seen a lot of success lately, as they've just opened their fourth location in less than four years (circa 2022). They specialize in Asian-style sweetened tea and coffee drinks with some unique flavors like Pandan, Ube, and Egg coffee. They also serve a small selection of bánh mì, musubi, and pastries. The Good: * Large shared parking lot * Online orders and pickup available * Order and pay at the kiosk * Great décor and vibes inside. A great place for studying or just chilling out with a drink. * The Pandan Matcha was still a little too sweet for my liking despite selecting the "less sweet" option, but otherwise it was very good. The Meh: * The bánh mì were just okay. I wouldn't come here specifically for them, but if you happen to be here and you're hungry, they'll get the job done. * No outdoor seating The Ugly: * Located between a Salvation Army and a head shop, this location draws in some suspicious characters just lingering about the lot. Conclusion: Drinks were pretty good, but avoid the sandwiches. I'll probably skip this location and try their newer Campbell location next time, which is closer to home.
Two years later, I'm still impressed by the consistency, service, and quality of the drinks and snacks here. Today I had an iced latte with oat milk and a chicken pastry, and both were great. I stopped by around 9:30 a.m., and it was calm, serene, and quiet. After 12 p.m., it tends to get jam-packed, so I'd definitely recommend going early if you want a more peaceful experience.
Phin Cafe is a must-visit if you love Vietnamese coffee. Their egg coffee was incredible--super creamy, rich, and packed with a strong coffee flavor without being overly sweet. The café itself is on the smaller side, but there's still enough seating to enjoy your drink, and the interior is clean and inviting. The service was also friendly and efficient. If you're looking for authentic Vietnamese coffee, I highly recommend stopping by Phin Cafe!
I've been hearing about Phin cafe for a few months now but haven't made a dedicated trip to try. Had lunch yesterday in the plaza across the street and saw it was close by!!!! Sunday afternoon around 2pm did not have a line, pretty quiet and empty besides 4-5 people waiting for their drinks. I walked in and was so happy to see a long list of Asian flavored cream topper to their coffeeee!!! I saw that they had durian, pandan, ube and of course egggg. There were more but those flavors stood out to me the most. The only downside is that they don't really tell you the difference between the house coffee or the in-house phin coffee unless you ask the cashier. The house coffee is their regular coffee with a flavor cream topper. The in-house Phin coffee has to be drank in store, comes with their drip coffee with condensed milk, the foam on the side and pieces of toasted baguette to dip and eat with it. After the cofffee is done, you pour into your cup of ice and put the cream top over it. We got the house coffee with durian topper and the Phin coffee with pandan topper. My friend and her bf both got pate chauds-- one sesame and one chicken. Wait time for food and drink was relatively quick. Maybe 5-10 minute or less. My friend mentioned the pate chaud was dry but flavor was ok. The lightly buttered sweet toasted baguette that came with the Phin coffee was also soooooo dry. I tried eating it and I couldn't even finish it, even dipping it in the cream didn't save it The coffee itself was pretty good!! The durian cream is very fragrant and yummy, not too overpowering but good for durian lovers. The pandan cream was also fragrant and had the classic coconut and light vanilla grassy taste. My friend's bf liked their coffee so much, he ordered the coconut one to go for later! Decor was very cute, I love the extra cushions and benches. They decorated it for Christmas so they have a bunch of Christmas display items.
I've visited this location of Phin Café a couple times to work from café when visiting the South Bay. It's a great spot with a decent amount of seating and free WiFi. I was drawn to this place because of their speciality drinks, and I especially like the pandan coffee, which comes with a yummy cookie that's hollowed out, so it can be used as a straw to eat the pandan foam.
I've been going here regularly as my favorite coffee shop for a while now! Even though I like to try new drinks from here when I see them advertised, I will always be faithful to my one true love, nutella banana coffee. Besides the drinks being amazing, the food is also amazing. I believe we tried the spinach and kale pate chaud, and also the chorizo one. Both were honestly amazing. To be honest, it's a bit pricey for a pastry so small but it is quite filling and I'd like to think it's worth it for the amount of labor that probably goes into making such a small bite absolutely amazing! The ambiance is also quite nice, people there are usually studying so it's quiet and very welcoming I'd say. I love the interior decorations as well because it makes this place feel like it's a separate own thing and not connected to the other stores nearby. I love the classical music covers that they play inside the store as well. The baristas are always nice and willing to help with giving any suggestions and answering questions for when I have/need any. And lastly, the wait time is very reasonably low for the amount of people also ordering. Overall, I love this place and I will continue to be back for that nutella banana coffee. + Phin Cafe and Goodwill makes me genuinely enter flow state
I ordered Phin Cafe to get me through one of those tired days in the office. I tried a few items and overall had a mixed but pleasant experience. The corn matcha was really good. It was smooth, lightly sweet, and comforting, with a subtle corn flavor that paired nicely with the matcha. The egg coffee was rich, creamy, and well balanced without being overly sweet. Unfortunately, the sticky rice was too hard and dry. I would definitely come back to try more drinks, but probably skip the sticky rice next time.
Came across Phin Cafe while browsing Yelp for a drink and decided to stop by since it's close to home and the menu looked interesting online. We ordered: - Banana matcha (3/5): The banana flavor was pretty subtle, and while the matcha was decent, it leaned a bit on the grainy side. - Avocado smoothie (4.5/5): You really can't go wrong with this one; smooth, well blended, and perfectly creamy with the milk - Pandan coffee (3/5): The pandan initially tasted quite artificial, but once it was fully mixed into the coffee, it was just okay overall.
Durian coffee: 4/5 way better once mixed and some ice has melted. Strong durian flavor in the cream. Pandan matcha: 0/5 the pandan tastes artificial. Really does not taste like pandan anymore. It tasted more like the container it's been sitting in--plastic-y. Matcha tasted grainy. Pass on this. Not as strong as Tram Coffee, which I kinda like. Lots of people ahead of me but didn't even realize because they were all online orders. If you're in a rush, order online!
Coffee was delicious and egg puffs were too. I had the pandan coffee. They give you the option to sub with alternative milk, and decaf if needed. You can use the tablet to order or wait for a staff member. They decorate was cute and holiday themed. When we arrived there was a large table available for our entire group (8 of us). Will go back to try other drinks and food!
We came here on Christmas morning for our coffee fix. Located in a small strip mall, Phin Cafe is known for their Vietnamese coffee and other Asian inspired drinks. The service is really nice and everyone is friendly. There is ample parking in the strip mall. I went with a coffee latte with matcha cloud topping ($7). I wasn't sure what to expect mixing coffee with matcha, but it came out great. The latte tasted like a normal latte with milk and gave that coffee taste I was looking for. While the matcha cloud was sweet and fluffy, with a hint of bitter matcha flavoring. I loved it! A real match made in heaven. Overall, I'd definitely come back for another round of latte + matcha cloud, or to try something new.
Made a coffee stop driving out of SJ. Phin Cafe had plenty of parking and was pretty empty in the afternoon. Interiors were really nice and had good amount of seating for a coffee shop. Service was also friendly and fast. Drinks were ready in about 5min. 6/10 Iced Vietnamese Coffee $5 - Their base ice coffee was not that good. Coffee flavor was average and strength was lacking especially for viet coffee. Would not recommend. 8/10 Pandan Coffee $7 8/10 Ube Coffee $7 Both the Pandan and ube coffees saved this place. The foam on top was strong and authentic in flavor. Even when mixed with the coffee, you can still taste each flavor! (Maybe because the coffee is light). My top three favorite coffee shop! There is something about Vietnamese coffee and they do it up proper here. The go to is the egg coffee, but all of it is freaking good. From the ube, to Matcha, to the banana coffee, and basically every single thing they serve is freaking delicious. I also love how they have small bites. I love this place so much. I wanna franchise them. The service has always been on point. Never an order missed, drinks made in a timely manner, but really grabbing your drink and going is nice, but staying in the café and chilling is really where it's at. The ambience has a cozy hangout feel. With all the things on their walls makes you feel like you're hanging out in your second home. With coffee there is no rush. This place needs six stars! read more
This cafe is located at the Blossom Valley Plaza. There are plenty of parking spots. They share the parking lot with Goodwill, a dry cleaning place, and some other businesses. We ordered the sesame rose matcha, coconut coffee, and a pandan waffle. The sesame rose matcha had a hint of sesame and strong matcha. They definitely didn't skimp on the matcha. The coconut coffee was our favorite. It had a hint of coconut so as not to over power the flavor of coffee. The pandan waffle didn't have any pandan flavor, and it was too sweet like a sugary flavorless St. Patrick's Day waffle. read more

I got the Matcha Coffee which it tasted like grass mixed with coffee. A bit bitter on both ends, so it's not the best combo as I thought it would be :( I appreciate that they have a mix of common coffees that you would see anywhere else like ube/egg/coconut, but also some unique flavors like durian coffee or banana matcha. The Mango Smoothie was rlly good, so I highly recommend! It was sweet and the mango flavor was strong. Also, I loved the interior of this cafe! Walking in, I immediately felt at peace. I want all cafes to be like Phin. The atmosphere was tranquil and everyone there was working quietly on laptops. I really appreciate how many outlets are here and it really feels like they encourage you to come, hang out, get some stuff done, and enjoy a coffee. I'm not usually in the Blossom Valley area, but I was meeting people at Bowlero nearby and had some time to work before meeting them. I had been looking for a classic Vietnamese coffee shop and was so pleased to find this in an area that doesn't seem to have a lot of coffee options beyond the chain places. I ordered the house coffee (not sure if there is an official name) and it comes with the cup of ice, the fresh percolating coffee, a side of your choosing (I went with pandan but you can also select egg, ube, or more instead) and it also comes with a side of biscotti (though this was more like baguette bread that has been toasted and sweetened somehow). The coffee was OUTSTANDING (not for those who like it weak) and the atmosphere was so relaxing. I would come back again and again - need to try their food menu next time, which has some banh mi sandwiches and musubi, etc. read more

The ambiance is really nice and seems like a good place to study and wind down. For the price of the phin specialty coffee which was around 10.50, I feel like the spread was really solid. A lot of trendy Viet coffee places have similar prices with not as much so I appreciated that. It came with some pieces of sweet crispy bread and your choice of flavored cream with the drip coffee. I will never say no to Vietnamese coffee, so I had to check out Phin Cafe! The cafe was a little busy when we arrived, but we got our order quickly. The ambience was great and we were able to enjoy our food there. We went with the Pandan Coffee, Durian Coffee, and Egg Coffee. These are all excellent flavors, so it's hard to choose, or maybe get them all like we did. I also got the Banh Mi since I was hungry and it fulfilled my cravings. Overall, this was a solid spot for Vietnamese Coffee, I wouldn't mind coming back if I'm in the area. read more

The good: I'm phinna get coffee from here more often! I tried the egg and spam musubi, Bangkok (Thai) tea, coconut coffee, durian coffee and egg coffee. The drinks were delicious and I liked how you could adjust the sweetness. The coffee base was strong in the way Vietnamese coffee tends to be without being overly bitter or sweet. The flavor options were stupendous. The menu offers many food options as well. My brother, toddler and I loved the musubi. My mom even liked her egg coffee and she is a super picky coffee person. The fact that they had durian coffee was stupendous. It had subtle durian flavor and it wasn't artificial tasting. The coffee base was just the right level of acid and strength. The interior was modern and trendy. There's plenty of parking. The bad: There's no outdoor seating. My mom didn't care for the coconut coffee because she thought it tasted too much like canned coconut cream but I thought it was great. It's in an older and outdated plaza. The interesting: I was excited at first because I thought this was part of the Phin Smith chain from SoCal but it's not. However, it was delicious as well and is definitely somewhere I'd come back to. read more
Coconut coffee is SO GOOD. If you love Viet coffee, but haven't tried this delicious concoction, you're missing out! The frozen coconut and the decadent coffee is great for a work day. Kept me buzzed and the flavor is perfect - not too seret. The egg puffs here are really solid too! Comes out piping hot, but gets cold fast. Eat with haste. Not bad for a little less than $5! If you're not looking for coffee, the egg matcha here is pretty goood. Very unique and you can try the "viral" social media trend with less caffeine. The egg cream is custard-like and again - not too sweet. Banh mi is not bad! Decent pricing. They don't skimp on the ingredients and the meat was fresh. The baguette is quite soft though. SIDE NOTE: I ordered a Pate & Pork Roll, but they gave me BBQ Pork... So they gave me the wrong order, but it was still good. I frequent the Fremont location often, so when I stumbled upon this one... it was nice to see the interior and quality is consistent! I've tried the pandan waffle and the popcorn chicken. I actually enjoyed the waffle! I was worried after seeing some reviews saying it was soggy, but you can see in my pic, this batch wasn't! It was slightly crispy too. You could taste the pandan flavor well. Hubbie wishes there was a salted cheese dipping sauce, told him this isn't happy lemon lol! The popcorn chicken is mediocre. It's not crispy enough and lacks flavor. I wouldn't recommend. The cafe inside is really cute! Both times that I've been, they were playing jazz (which I love!) at a nice calm level. We had their Coconut Coffee, Egg Coffee, Combo Special Banh Mi, and Grilled Pork Banh Mi. Both the Coconut Coffee and Egg Coffee hit the spot with just the right amount of sweetness for that authentic Vietnamese coffee experience. As for the banh mi, they were absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. I recommend ordering online ahead of time for takeout. I did just that, and when I arrived at the store, my order was waiting for me in a cute paper bag! Another stop in my quest to try all of the Vietnamese coffee in the South Bay. I popped in here for a light lunch before a thrifting expedition. I ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee with egg custard, half sweet (which I haven't seen the option for before, and helped balance the sweetness of the egg custard and sweetened condensed milk). If you order in, there's an option to have the coffee fresh dripped from the Phin carafe in a little tray with the topping and bread which looked so cute from another customer! I also ordered the spam and egg musubi but the furikake seasoning was way too salty even for me Logistics: - a small amount of indoor and outdoor seating - plenty of strip mall parking available - it was quite busy at 11am on a Sunday - I waited about 10 minutes for my food and drink and people watched read more
My first time trying egg coffee- it's soooo good. I was a bit wishy washy about what to order (they have more drinks than I originally expected), but thankfully another customer chimed in that they love their egg coffee so that's what I settled with. I also tried a sip of my bf's coffee (prob reg black iced coffee), and it was pretty smooth too! I'm not an avid coffee drinker because I'm scared of the bitter aftertaste, but this place was great! Easy ordering, good amount of available seats inside/outside, and difficult decisions of what to order! Had to try the egg coffee and pandan waffle on my first visit. Egg coffee: the cream was super thick, so I definitely needed the straw to get both the egg cream and coffee together. Love that you can adjust sweetness here, where 75% wasn't too too sweet. Recommend this one! Pandan waffle: I probably will skip this one next time because the texture wasn't for me. Pretty crispy in some areas and I think I like the chewier waffles more. Enjoyed that you could actually taste the pandan! But I want to come back and try different coffees and maybe some savory food items read more

Egg Coffee with coffee jelly is the drink to get here. This joint is nestled in the middle of a small plaza right off of Blossom Hill Road. The shop is small but there's some tables inside along with a bench you can sit on to wait for your order. I was thrilled that I could customize the ice and sugar levels to my liking as some places have prefixed levels. There was no line when I came here on a Friday morning but it was right before the Christmas holiday so that could explain why. The gal taking my order didn't bother asking if I wanted to get rewards for my purchase until after my transaction was done and only came up because I had asked. She said it was too late since the transaction already was done and that I could get rewards for future drinks. That was a bummer considering how expensive this drink is (which is around $7). That aside, the drink was made pretty quickly and it had the perfect sweetness and coffee ratio. It was by far the best egg coffee I've had to date! I definitely plan on coming back here for my egg coffee cravings! read more
Oops silly me ordered incorrectly. I meant to get the pandan coffee but accidentally ordered the Phin coffee with pandan cream. It's for in-store only and arrives on a cute wooden tray. It was a nice little DIY set where you pour the drip coffee into the glass of ice, then add the cream on top. Flavor was good for both the coffee and pandan cream. I enjoyed the biscottis it came with and they had some sugar on top. Nice sweet treat to enjoy with the coffee. Regarding the service, I will start by saying I'm usually not one to comment on poor service unless it has me pondering about it afterwards LOL. But the cashier wasn't too friendly - avoided eye contact the entire time and didn't respond at all when I said "thank you" "how are you" etc. I also overheard the person after me ask "how's it going" and say "thanks" but also no response. They definitely seemed like they didn't want to be there. I've worked in food service before so I understand the struggle and I understand if folks aren't having the best day, but ultimately it made me feel unwelcome and bothersome and I left pretty shortly after. Egg coffee ($6.90) and combo banh my ($8.50) were ok. What did coffee taste like? It's like Vietnamese coffee made by Viet for non-Viet. I didn't say it's not good. It's just not enough for Viet taste. Banh my, regular-straw long, was ok, cold as usual, a bit soggy on sauce and less pate. I like my banh my with more pate though. Got the durian coffee and it was so stinky delicious! Just kidding, it didn't stink but it does have a slight faint smell. The coffee had the robust boldness of Vietnamese coffee and the durian had the distinctive strong taste. It even had tiny bits of pulp! Tasted fresh not like the instant durian coffee where it's artificial. If you love durian and Vietnamese coffee, you gotta get this! read more
Phin Cafe opened recently across the 92 bridge and I've been waiting for the day to visit, but I haven't had the chance yet so when a special event took me to San Jose and I saw there was a Phin Cafe nearby... I mean, sounds like a good time for me. Located in a small plaza with a Goodwill, Phin Cafe is unsuspecting from the outside. Parking can be somewhat limited, but would suggest parking towards the back of the lot if anything as it can get busy. The inside of the cafe is cute and there's plenty of seating available whether you're here to sit and sip or just waiting to get your order. Their menu isn't super extensive which is great for deciding on a drink quicker. I opted for their Purple Heart after seeing it on the counter as it was this beautiful purple hue and while the drink looked great for Instagram, the flavor wasn't what I cared for. While other people in my group enjoyed their drink, I was on the fence and wouldn't mind taking a 2nd trip here (or their new location) to try something else. read more

Just tried their iced egg coffee with coffee jelly. This is almost the perfect egg coffee. I think Tram Cream coffee 2 in Saigon town still wins first place for best egg coffee. The only down side is the ice!! The type of ice in a drink MATTERS ya'll. I'm trying to drink my coffee but kept getting chunks of ice in my straw- even when using the small thin straw! So annoying. If they used bigger shapes of ice it wouldn't be an issue. Egg coffee: must get less sweet! Thick lucious egg cream topping. Coffee jelly is alright. Tram anh has better coffee jelly. Pandan coffee: pandan egg cream is less thick than egg cream. Nicely sweet! I get why others say it's refreshing. Gives a light, floral note to coffee. Not overly sweet. read more

I didn't realize that I haven't written a review for this place but since I revisited today, I've left with mixed feelings. I tried Phin Cafe last summer 2022 and had the Ca Phe Trung (Egg Coffee) which was good! I would rate the drink at 3.6/5 because there was a bit too much ice so it watered down very quickly. However, the egg cream was delicious and had good consistency. Today, we tried: Ube Coffee: (0/5) I was SUPER excited for this drink however, it was a huge let down. The flavor was very indescribable in a bad way. I was able to taste fruity notes, feel chunkiness, purple yam and slight perfume-like flavors. It was very unpleasant, even after mixing with the coffee. Although it was pretty, it wasn't what I was expecting at all and would not recommend this drink. Pandan Coffee: (2/5) The coffee itself was quite strong which is good because that's what you would expect from a viet coffee. However, the pandan was barely present which defeats the whole purpose. Everything I've had from here has been absolutely fantastic. PRO TIP! You can ask for your drinks to be less sweet and with less ice! The cafe itself is a little small, but cute and inviting. You can set up shop and get some studying/work done, no problem. I've tried the egg coffee (delicious, creamy), pandan coffee (favorite!) , salted coffee (delicious), ube coffee (texturally a little grainy; the kinda interesting that makes you want to try it again and again), banana matcha (forgot to get it less sweet but still delicious; very banana-y), and matcha coffee (unique but not bad esp. For matcha fans!). They also have sandwiches and I do recommend the egg bahn mi! Their sriracha isn't very spicy and almost has a jelly-like consistency. As a sauce boss & drinker of all hot sauces, this is suitable but the real stuff is way better. read more

Was in the area on a Saturday morning around 9:30am, found this place on Yelp, and so glad we did! The interior is very warm and cozy with a decent amount of tables for 2 and one communal table in the middle. Some people were working, some were chatting away, while others were picking up orders to go. We opted for the Phin coffee, which is only dine-in. They came on a cute little tray with a side of toasted baguette slices topped with a little bit of sugar. The coffee itself was delicious. We both opted for light sweetness, and it was more than enough. Both the ube and pandan cream had nice subtle flavor on their own, but mixed in the coffee the flavors got lost. It was nice to dip the toast in though! The sticky rice was also delicious with so many complimentary flavors and textures! My partner and I shared it as a snack, but it could easily be a meal for one. Will definitely come back! read more

Decided to go to the newer location of Phin Cafe located in blossom hill. The place here is super tiny that I felt a bit claustrophobic but service is decently fast that you can get your drinks quick! My friends both got the famous egg coffee and loved it! I was craving a fruit tea so I got the Rosie dream which is a Jasmine Green Tea infused with Rose and Lychee topped with Rose Petal and whole Lychee Fruit! It was honestly one of the best fruit teas I've ever had! read more
