This place used to be the Chinese restaurant Super Dish but is now a Vietnamese restaurant. The restaurant is pretty spacious and also includes a patio area that has seating. However, there is a row of tables inside the restaurant where the tables are pushed really close to the booths against the wall so it makes it pretty difficult to sit on the booth side of the table since it's such a tight squeeze. I ordered the pho dac biet and the pennywort drink. I thought the pho was okay. The star was the broth. I substituted the tendon for beef balls. The meat cuts were okay, but I didn't like the beef balls since they had a spongy texture and that's not what I'm used to or what I like. When the texture is spongy like that, I think it's because they put in filler when making the beef balls. The drink was also okay. Service was slow. Since it's a new restaurant, I don't think the staff is properly and efficiently trained yet cause it took forever for someone to take my order and for me to get my bill at the end. Also, when u want the bill, the server will come to your table with a portable credit card machine and the first screen asks for tip and has selected fixed options, but I'd like to point out that the fixed options are incorrectly calculated. In general, a percentage based tip is based on the subtotal (the total of the bill before tax). However, some shady restaurants will show you "recommended tip amounts" that are inflated because they are calculated based on the total of the bill that includes tax! Sadly this restaurant is one of those restaurants which puts a sour taste in my mouth because I don't support dishonest business practices. I think the act of giving patrons the bill via a portable credit card machine (instead of ringing it up at the cashier in the front and bringing a paper receipt to the table, which is commonly done at most restaurants) is also another intentional tactic to pressure patrons to click on the pre-set tip amounts which are incorrectly calculated. read more

I was excited to check out this new spot because I live close by. I ordered: Fish sauce chicken wings - very sweet. The crunch / exterior was done very well but it was way too sweet for me. Not what I"m used to with fish sauce wings. It also came w/ a dip that was also sweet. So I was taking my sweet wings and dipping it into an even sweeter sauce. Pho Tai Lan - pho w/ wok seared beef - the broth itself was decent. Not bad, not great, but decent. The beef if what I had an issue with. It was def not wok seared but a few clumps of beef. Outside was cooked and inside was more red, which means they just blanched it in hot water and tossed it into my bowl. Not wok seared. Overall, the place is alright. Would I go back? Probably not cause the pho is $18+ a bowl. If my friends wanted to go, then I would tag a long but solo, I would not. We were not allowed in the restaurant and when i mentioned it the manager just laughed at me and thought the whole situation was funny. The food was fresh as expected and pho soup was exceptional. I ordered the crispy chicken pho but my chicken was like bbq'd not fried. We got #1 pho $18.95 and pho with rare steak and brisket. If you want fresh noodle $1.5 more which we didn't order. Ok my mom and I have been complaining for the longest time that south SJ around the Oakridge area needs way more Viet restaurants. We have like 3 options down here compared to the east side. Well. It finally happened. This new viet spot replaced the Chinese (?) noodle restaurant, (next to 99 Ranch) and already it looks like it's received much better by the locals. They have indoor/outdoor seating and the interior is really modern with warm wood touches, outdoor was really nice considering the weather and the noise was very low. // Food // I got the Pho Dac Biet, usually my go to litmus test for a pho spot's overall ability to deliver a bowl of rich beef broth + the noodles and toppings. It was surprisingly decent! No overwhelming or detectable saltiness of (too much) msg. The body of the broth was good, and a touch on the sweeter side so I think they go a bit extra on the rock sugar. The portion of protein was a bit disappointing, and a bit "scrappy"/shredded up, this is something I hope they can work on since there's only 1 size for the pho bowls. // Drinks // I wanted some coffee / matcha but TPTEA was closed today, and the pictures on the menu for this coffee spot looked really promising and did NOT disappoint at all. I got the Coconut Coffee / Cafe Sua Da Dua. For $5.50 you get nicely sized cup of coffee that doesn't disappear after 4 sips. The coffee was strong but rounded out by whatever creamer they paired it with. The coconut cream on top didn't taste artificial , was perfectly sweet to pair with the coffee. I've been seeing Pho 408 every time I go to the mall and finally got the chance to try it out today. The moment you walk in, the aroma of pho hits you--and I loved that. I wasn't really in the mood for pho, so I ordered the beef chow fun, which was so good. I also got to try my boyfriend's pho, and the broth was incredibly flavorful and aromatic--honestly, probably one of the best I've had at a restaurant. The servers were super attentive, and our water glasses were always full. The decor was also modern and stylish, which made the experience even better. I really enjoyed the crispy tofu appetizer too--it was seasoned perfectly and packed with flavor. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the sugar cane juice. It kept coming up on my list and looked good. We gave to try it. We ordered a Bahn Mi Chao Bo combo, Bahn Xeo, Egg rolls, Special pho, Crispy chicken pho and two beverages. My parents are pretty picky about viet food (we're viet), but even they enjoyed the food here. I would say food was above average as there wasn't anything that was particularly bad. Pho dac biet was pretty decent, not the best. We also got a banh mi chao bo luc lac to share and it's slightly on the sweeter side, but the flavoring was tasty and the beef was tender. It also came with a side salad and bowl of pho broth. The banh xeo chao was a flat banh xeo on the sizzling platter, which helped to keep its crispiness. The banh xeo batter had some coconut milk, which made it taste somewhat "beo", or creamy. I can see how with their batter, if they didn't have it on a sizzling plate, it would've gotten soggy and soft quick. They also had a decent amount of drinks on the menu, but what caught our eye was the fresh pennywort juice. Out of the three different variations of pennywort juices we got (red bean, coconut, and grass jelly), definitely my pennywort coconut was the tastiest -- not too sweet, but nice and creamy. One thing to note is that the food also came out surprisingly quick! Like the pho and banh mi chao literally came out within 5 minutes, while the banh xeo took maybe 10 minutes. Me and my husband came from Sacramento, driving more than 2 hours to San Jose on the Sunday for a trip. I search up on Yelp and saw this place have a lot of good reviews and decide to try it out. Lots of options at this new restaurant, but both my hubby and I went for #14, the big beef rib pho with fresh wide noodles. It came out within 5 minutes and you couldn't help but notice how the broth was very clear and not oily on top AND the beef was nicely sliced for you. Broth was perfectly flavored, comforting and not too salty, and the beef was so tender and packed with deliciousness. Had a ton of pho in my life, but this bowl is now my favorite! Pho 408 has a pretty big menu, offering a variety of dishes in addition to the obvious phở. In particular, both my wife and I were immediately drawn to the various bánh mì chảo (sizzling plate with bread) on the menu. While the pan sauce was more oily than I like, I'm very happy that I can get this here and skip the 20 minute drive to Little Saigon. Pho 408 also has a big selection of drink options. First, the waitress did not speak Vietnamese, a very bad sign. I order the shaking beef with rice. They featured shaking beef with noodles or rice or salad. Shaking beef is supposed to be tender filet mignon. It's called out as filet mignon on the menu description. But what I got was tough and chewy. A low grade of meat. And the portion was very small. For a $24 dollar plate, I got a big portion of plain white rice and a lot of lettuce, topped with a small portion of beef, peppers and onions. A bad experience. I've only been here twice, but the food here is so good! Portions were big that me that my friends and I had to share. The service was also really great and suuuper attentive! They come by the table for refill water the whole time you're there and the workers are really nice. If you're a regular, they come give you a special treat too! I tasted the broth, and I said this is what phở broth should be We didn't need to drink so much water after the meal because their cooking has no msg. Yay!
