My daughter's shrimp spring roll itself was good, but the peanut sauce was bland - tasted like it was from a bottle and it had zero peanuty taste (though a few peanut pieces were sprinkled on top). My dish was similarly bland. The fish sauce was bland, the pork had no taste, and the egg rolls were meh. It was, however, nicely topped with fresh lettuce and cilantro. Long-standing Vietnamese restaurant, Pho 54, is located on Westminster Blvd, closer to the Brookhurst intersection. The business area is the place for a few popular stores in town, but there will always be enough parking spots since the lot is quite spacious. The restaurant is more of a casual dining, Asian style. The set-up is not very well-decorated or looking fancy, enough to say this is just a place to eat and get out. However, their service is nice and friendly. Servers do speak some English, so just be patient with them. Their foods usually come out pretty quickly. Pho and Bun Thit Nuong are our go-to. But there are lots of other options on the menu, like about 100 items or more! I lost count because there are too many! Another plus point is that they open late at night, so I can go grab a late night dinner if I ever have a busy day at work. They used to do cash-only, but transitioning to take card with $20 minimum (75c extra if bill under $20) which is a really good thing. He then started bussing tables instead of getting my water. I get my pho and no water still! I had to flag another guy who told him and he seemed annoyed. After hearing great things about this place months ago and putting it on my radar, we finally drove an hour just to give it a try. From the friendly staff to the delicious food and drinks, Pho 54 did not disappoint. We had the combo pho, fried rice, egg rolls, lemon soda (secret tip: add some of your mint to the drink - it's next level ) and an iced Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. Everything was top notch and so fresh. Even after two days, we're still talking about the pho being the absolute best we've ever had. This is one of the few Vietnamese restaurants that is open very late for you to grab a late night dinner. They have a really great large menu with a free drink that comes with it (including soy bean milk, thai ice tea, soda). I got the Thai iced tea which was actually very good. I also ordered a large combo with fresh noodles and filet mignon and it really was tasty. It was really generous in portion and filled with meat. Let me tell you this, I came here to this pho location about 36 miles away for some late night pho, okay. Went on a Saturday and apparently it was free Thai Tea day! Overall, eating at this restaurant is a great value. Most "basic" (common) pho bowls start at first just $7.00, but that does, however, reflect the taste of the meat. It's just alright, not bad but not great either. The pho noodles themselves are pretty decent and the broth is even better. The Thai tea was also surprisingly tasty! The servers are pleasant and attentive even when it's late! (We went at around 12:15 AM). Speaking of which, they are one of the only places that are open after 12AM for when it's late, but you still need your pho fix. The bad service adds to the authentic experience :^) With Viet places if the food is good enough, the restaurant won't give a flying crap about trying to impress you with good service. They'll drop the food in front of you like "eat it pigs and get out so we can seat more people" Their pho isn't the best around the area though. 79 has waaaaaay better broth, but sometimes it's too crowded so I go to 54. The broth at 54 isn't as flavorful as the 79 broth, and the noodles were kinda clumped up. Also the water came at the end of the meal when everyone was done eating so LOL. I am so happy I found this place. They're open until midnight on weekdays which is awesome for me since I get off work at 11pm. I got a regular size #16 - rare beef. The broth, unlike any I've had before! I could see the bits of yumminess from the bones inside the broth... it was so good ! So full of flavor. The noodles are great and are still able to stand out from the other flavors of the soup. The meat was okay, I usually get only brisket but they didn't have that option here. The original Pho 54 was opened in Long Beach. The back of the menu gives a brief history on this location. The people were nice, many servers to assist. We ordered, but mixed our orders, we were a large party. The broth is a bit watery for my liking I had to add a lot of Siracha and teriyaki to get the consistency I like. I liked how the pho had a lot of meat and noodles. Egg rolls were ok. The Thai tea was my favorite part of the meal. It had the right sweetness.
