Found this place because I was craving some vermicelli noodles and my go to Cordon Bleu closes Sundays and Mondays. What a stellar find! As others have noted it's almost like being in the living room of the lady running around serving. It's definitely authentic Viet and 100% delicious. They highlighted a BBQ pork vermicelli bowl on the menu so I went with that. It did not disappoint. Excellent flavor profile throughout the bowl. I am liberal with the Sriracha and it held up very well with the cascade of flavors you expect from a good bowl of this stuff. I definitely would and will come back to try other things like the Pho. I'm pretty surprised by all of the 4-5 star reviews because my experience wasn't anywhere close to what these reviews stated about the food quality. I ordered the combo pho without tendon, and a can of soda. The owner said she would add more of the other meat to compensate, which I thought was nice. But when it came out, there was barely any meat, and what was there was terrible quality and very small pieces (about 1-2 inches). The 2 pieces of flank were paper thin, the 3 very small pieces of brisket werr rubbery with most fat and veins, and one beef ball cut in half. By the time I picked all of the nasty pieces off the meat, I was barely left with anything left to eat with the noodles and over-seasoned broth. Adding insult to injury: the check came and showed $4 for the can of soda! Other than the poor quality food, the space was fairly clean considering that it's in a smelly part of TL. There are lots places in the Tenderloin for Pho in San Francisco . There is Pho 2000 in the Tenderloin which is one of the best places to grab Pho is San Francisco. I decided to try a Pho place with a number attached to its namesake because they are usually serving good Pho. I decided to go to Pho 808 which gets its name from its address number on Geary street like some restaurants in San Francisco such as 606 , 707Sutter and One65. It's seems there is a numbers game going on with the names for San Francisco establishments . Once inside I had in mind the Pho Ga. The Pho was a bit mild but you can add some seasoning which makes the chicken delicious. The only thing I wish it had and preferred are the skinnier noodles which I did not acknowledge until after the fact I was served the thicker noodles. Next time I will request the thinner noodles instead of getting the default thicker noodles. The soup broth was tasty and had good portions of Pho. I then got the pork chop for more protein and it was tender and flavorful . Pho 808 is worth the try. Listen, it's taken me a while to get to this Tendernob place. The front having a computer set up for the owner's kids to play told me all I needed to know about the place. No homework was being done during my time there but I'm sure it's a rite of passage the kid has gone through before :) Owner's were friendly and food came out quick and was a good portion for the price. read more

First impression: a nice humble restaurant with a few tables and chairs a billiards table, an altar and a nice china cabinet. The food: Rare Beef Pho, the broth is super rich without being overly salty or heavy. Really tremendous all on its own, no siracha, hoisin or chili sauce needed! But I just had to add some siracha for a little hint of sweetness and some spice. Sooooo goood. I'm traveling from out of town and while we were walking around looking for another Viet Restaurant we found out they only take cash. And I had none. I've been hanging in San Francisco a bit & taking advantage of all the Vietnamese restaurants & unfortunately they are in some pretty raunchy neighborhoods but it didn't deter me from going. So off I go for dinner while there is still daylight. The restaurant is absent of any ambience, plastic table cloths, typical low budget decor and too much clutter exposed. The altar with their diety had clutter surrounding it too. It's a pretty large space so there is lots of excess stuff. Now the food, I ordered a beef combo with vermicelli, it comes in a large bowl with a couple greasy vegetable rolls. As I was eating & challenged myself with chopsticks I found all the glorious salad, mint & cucumbers at the bottom of the bowl and if I didn't dig a little I would not have been able to include them in my bite size morsels. Came here on Friday evening and got a table straight away for two. Ambiance is casual and good for quick meal. I had the vermicelli bowl with shrimp and egg roll and it was very tasty and good portion size. Husband got pho with rare beef and flank. I really want to like this pho restaurant since it's on the 38 bus line and more convenient than going on Larkin. There's also not as many options after at least 5 Vietnamese restaurants closed and reopen as other cuisines the past few years in Little Saigon. However, the pho broth is a bit too salty for my liking. The people there is nice and was willing to make the pho noodles softer when I mentioned I'm sharing it with my mom who needs to eat soften food. Came here for one thing, Bun Bo Hue (BBH) which is a spicy pork soup that ha similar to pho but not really. When we arrived for dinner at about 6:30 one of the old lady waitresses was sleeping in a hammock that is on right side right as you walk in. I immediately busted out with laughter and gave her a hard time. 3/5 - BBH - this was my first time trying this dish and I wasn't impressed. Reasonable price of Vietnamese food + quality. If you order vermicelli, just letting you know, it's a lot of food. I appreciate the load of lettuce at the bottom of the bowl and so much meat! The distribution is pretty good for the price. If you think SF is expensive and you want home viet food, I would say come here. The food came out fast and the service is nice. My favorite thing about this place is the coffee. I swear coffee shops "Vietnamese Coffee" has nothing on this coffee. This is pretty much my dad's coffee back at home. We went on a mini vacation to San Francisco only to find that Covid destroyed our go to pho restaurant in the area, so we search for another restaurant. Luckily pho 808 was open and ready for service. It was on a busy street parking was pretty hard to find, area might be also a little shady, but that would not stop me for getting a good bowl of pho!!! Even though it was located on a busy street, the set up for the restaurant is very cozy and it was indeed very quiet inside. Proof? There is a hammock that the workers sleep in whenever they need a break. How amazing that they are taking care of themselves while they take care of their customers! We went into the restaurant and was greeted right away. The service was really good, the servers were polite and try to tend to our every needs. I brought in a party of 7 so we were able to try a little bit of everything. I had a bowl of Bun Bo Hue and this is pretty much the spicy beef noodles. I have had this in many other restaurants and felt that it was not authentic enough, pho 808 is the first place that really made it awesome for me. Usually, other restaurants want to put spice in pho noodle soup base, change up the noodles and call it Bun Bo Hue, but in fact this soup should be made entirely different because it's a lemongrass flavor soup instead of an sweet onion flavor. I am not going to get into the technicality of how they make this but pho 808 is the only place that made it the same my in-law did (they used to cook at home for me before they get a divorce ). I enjoy the soup so much and the portion is so big it made me so happy. My son got a plate of the BBQ rib with rice, accompanied by this special kind of egg cake with pork in there. He said it was very yummy. I don't eat pork so I did not try it myself, and he really enjoy it. The rest of the party got the good ol' pho, it was very fresh and tasty as well. So in conclusion, food is 5 stars, everything came out excellent Service is 5 stars, they are very attentive and they seems very happy to be there Location/ambience is 4 stars only, because it was difficult to find parking and I was a little on edge being in the territory of people breaking glasses and take cars already, but this is nobody's fault of this restaurant. I give a bonus 0.34 stars for them to live through the pandemic and despite not having a lot of business everybody remain positive and look forward to cook good food for customers. They deserve more business! Please everybody come support a good local business and don't let it sink because of stupid Covid! All in all I give this place 5 stars and I wish I had found it sooner when I used to live in San Francisco, and it's not too late you should go try it too! read more

Seen this restaurant a few weeks ago and finally decided to give it a try! It opened up right next to my apartment and I couldn't be more happier. When I first seen it's grand opening, I believe the payment method was cash only. Not sure if it still applies as of today 8/15, but I had cash on me just in case. I was greeted by the host by the host who was super nice and attentive. I got the combination pho and Thai tea. The serving portion was huge, broth was amazing, and they make their own chili oil. This is one of my go-to pho spots in the city (especially after a night out ;) ) The pricing for the pho is average city pricing (there are a few spots around this one that are a little pricier) and it is one size only I believe. I've only ever ordered the pho, but it comes out piping hot and delicious. The service is pretty attentive and quick. Not too big of a restaurant, and I usually get to choose my own table. The interior is homey and the bathrooms are also relatively clean. Overall, love the food here and will always be coming back to it! read more

Everything has gone well over dozens of visits to this Nob Loin Gem. They are right across from my office and when the wind comes from the north my space is overwhelmed by intoxicating fragrances of Basil , Lemon Grass, Garlic and Soy.I love their Pho that has a variety of meets, steak, tripe, brisket, meatballs. In my experience you cannot go wrong at Pho 808. While tourists and others are slurping it up at little Saigon less than a kilometer away as they should be, on our " Little Slab of Paradise" (Nob Loin) we do not need the bus, taxi, bicycle or scooter. I love their shrimp rolls, and any of the stir fry or pork chop are delicious. They even assisted my Vietnamese language skills whilst I dated a woman from their home country. This prohibitively beautiful and sexy human was not satisfied to co-habitate and raise a family-my third-here on Geary Street -"Portal to the Pacific" but was intent upon living " On The Pacific. She did the math, the time it would take for me to raise the $10M would be outside her child bearing years, and she said something in Viet Namese that meant " My other lover has a Lear Jet, and a Lugar". Bye. All's fair in love and War and I still get to eat Pho while I ponder retiring from love all together. After a few weeks with a broken heart " Only love Can Break Your Heart" ( Neal Young) all those meaningless hook ups I used to complain about suddenly have a new appeal especially since I don't have to share my shrimp rolls with them and I am out the door at PHO808 barely breaking a C- Note. Life is wonderful on Nob Loin because of PHO 808 and its heart-healing ambience.
