The main reason she brought me was for their **bún riêu**, but I have to be honest -- it didn't really taste like bún riêu to me. It was still good, but the broth had more of a tomato-y, clearer base and felt like its own soup rather than a true bún riêu. I was also surprised they didn't have **shrimp paste** available for it, which felt kind of odd. They do have **bánh bèo** and some other Vietnamese dishes, which I thought was cool, and overall everything we tried was okay. I've had a different soup from here before, and I've also gotten it delivered, and I'd say the experience is pretty much the same across the board -- decent, solid, nothing bad, but nothing that really stands out for me either. That said, I'd still come back because my girlfriend enjoys it, the family is sweet, and there aren't a ton of Vietnamese spots I've tried out in the Valley yet. The bread was perfectly toasted and had a nice, crunchy bite. The pork was still warm. The veggies were fresh and crunchy! It hit the spot. So good!! We usually order to eat with friends or pack for a trip, and they hold up well. The price for #10 was $10.25, but on the receipt it said $11.25. plus extra surcharge for credit card. 7/20/2026: We finally made it back and returned to the scene of our first Vietnamese Cuisine…read moreexperience from the early '90s. This "joint" we were introduced to by a Vietnamese colleague seemed so unique and magical! It was nothing fancy, the tables were perpetually sticky.. but every morsel we tasted was served with such pride, and it was delicious. That was then. This is now. The interior has since been renovated, the furniture updated and gone are the tables wrapped in shipping tape and cardboard to keep them steady. It looks nice! The small side area of the building where the aunties used to clean and prep the fresh veggies, basil, mint, cilantro.. is now a full up boba bar with a sweet smiling lady behind the counter. There were no less than 6 employees wandering in the dining area and not one addressed us when we walked in until we called out to them. I'm no royalty demanding to be served like a princess, but can you say HI and offer a table? They have at least a dozen tables in the dining room, and only 2 had patrons so they weren't busy. It was around 6:30pm so the dinner rush had passed. We needed to wait about 10-15 minutes for friends to arrive so we asked for menus, water and I ordered a salted Plum Soda which you can't really find at too many places outside of Orange County. It was refreshing on a hot day! I was shocked to see how abbreviated the menu had become. Out of the Pho So 1 locations we have been to, we always felt this one had more dishes to choose from including desserts. This menu looked shorter than the one in Granada Hills (on Devonshire) and when I asked one of the young ladies about the dishes I can come for, she shriveled her nose and said "we don't have that". In particular I wanted Bun Cha Ha Noi.. and was suggested to get Bun Thit Nuong as a substitute. Ok, they both have pork and both have a form of rice noodle, but that's where the similarities end. When our friends arrived, they sat down and immediately they wanted to take our orders. Friends asked for drinks and some time to peruse the menu. After a few more visits to take the meal order we finally made our decisions. The food came out quickly. This is always on point at the Pho So 1 locations. No complaints! But our friends had to ask again for their drink orders and got a little side eye. They asked nicely and were nothing but polite. This just didn't feel right. The experience was so lackluster I didn't even take any pics and if you've seen my other reviews, that's not me at all. Am I spoiled because I've been exposed "the good stuff" in our adventures to San Gabriel Valley? Maybe. But I'd still go back to the Pho So 1 spots in Gardena (the guy who manages there is amazing and should give lessons!) and Granada Hills (Devonshire, not the newer one on Chatsworth which was also disappointing). Leaving this here so my fond old memories don't bring me back to this spot in Reseda. 30+ years later, there are a lot of other choices to satisfy the need for Vietnamese food.

It had been a while since I visited my places in Reseda and I wanted to see if they're still as good as before. Sandwich Express did not disappoint! Back in the 80's I lived in Northridge and had a Vietnamese co-worker who was a friend and fellow foodie. He introduced me to banh mi and Sandwich Express, and I'm so glad he did! Starting with their amazing banh (baguette rolls), they're baked fresh daily. They're crisp on the outside and perfectly soft in their interior. Not too dense or thick - just the right crisp and airy bread to filling ratio that you want in a banh mi! You can also buy baguettes to take home. Back in the day they were 3 for $1! Yup, apparently I'm that old... today they're a couple of bucks, but still worth it. Sorry I failed to take pics of my sandwich when it was freshly made, I was just so excited to go back in time to this little corner of Reseda that looks like it hasn't changed! The photo shown is the next day.. and that's only HaLF of the sandwich! The lady at the counter was so sweet! Don't assume rudeness for challenges with communication. I was nice and she was kind in return. There's a language barrier and at first she was shy, but once we worked through the English-Vietnamese translations with the help of Google, I was able to ask her if they sell Kho Ga La Chanh (Chicken Jerky) - and she ran excitedly to the back and produced a sealed bag of their homemade jerky! Not the same flavor profile as the stuff I buy in San Gabriel Valley, but it's a start! I'll bring them a sample the next time I get a batch to see if they can mimic the sweet spice. Theirs is a little more "five spice" forward. I placed my order for a #1 "Dac Biet" sandwich, "extra pâté, extra veggies". That's my default sammie by which I judge all Bánh Mi and I'm here to say that even a day later, right out of my fridge it's still THE best Banh Mi in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys! Bright, fresh, generously filled.. and the magic bread. I happen to know that a local chain of popular phô restaurants buys their bahn (rolls) daily from Sandwich Express to make their own sandwiches and to serve with their Bho Ko (stew)! If you're wondering for reference where my bar is set, my go-to banh mi spots in San Gabriel Valley are Bánh Mi Hue Thai and Banh Mi Hoa Phat. ~IYKYK~ What has changed at Sandwich Express? It's not just sandwiches anymore AND they have a few tables inside where you can sit down to eat! They don't have my beloved Soda Xí Muội (salted plum soda) or the lime version either. Just canned and bottled American sodas, but that's not a deal breaker. Check out the posted menu pics. Bún Bò Huě, Bò Kho.. the owner did suggest calling first to make sure these items are available on the day you want to come, but she boasts that it's very authentic! They even have broken rice dishes with grilled pork chop (Cóm Tãm Súòn)! I read in another review that the original owners sold. I don't know if this is accurate or when it happened.. but I didn't see the older people that were often in the kitchen so it's possible! Back to the changes - they have desserts now, too! They also cater! What?!? No longer cash only, they accept Visa/Mastercard. I'm so glad we stopped! They still hold the #1 spot in the area. Convince me otherwise!

We have been loyal customers for over 10 years and frequently order the beef sandwich and pâté. Yesterday, we ordered two beef sandwiches and one pâté. Since we live only 8-10 minutes away, we returned home immediately after picking up the order. When I started eating, I noticed that the pâté tasted very sour and spoiled. Unfortunately, I had already mixed part of it with my rice, so I had to throw it away. We called the store right away to report the issue, and they told us we could bring the pâté back the next day. Today, we returned to the store. We did not request a refund--we simply wanted to exchange the item and were willing to pay the difference for a beef sandwich instead. However, the staff member we spoke with was very rude and accused us of lying, claiming that we had eaten the pâté. We explained that we had to discard it since it was mixed with rice and even showed a photo that we throw it in to the trash, but she continued to question our honesty. In the past, we have had positive experiences with previous staff, and the owners have always been kind. Unfortunately, this particular employee demonstrated very poor customer service and made the situation unnecessarily unpleasant. An apology would have been appropriate. The employee declined to provide her name and appeared hesitant. She is a newer staff member, approximately in her 50s, and spoke incessantly while repeatedly blaming us for the situation. This is not about the cost--the amount is small. It is about how customers are treated. While this issue could have been escalated further, including reporting to the health department, we chose not to. What we expect instead is for the store to ensure proper food quality and provide better TRAINING for staff. Due to this experience, we will not be returning and will share our experience with others.

The bread tasted crisp and chewy, and overall it was something that filled me up for what I needed. My friend got a vermicelli bowl and felt like the overall dish was also okay, and that the fish sauce could have been more flavorful since that's usually a highlight for her. There was a bit of a long wait for it, like almost 20 minutes. We definitely chose to eat it to-go since the interior is also small and there's about 3 tables or less. They do offer an extensive menu though and I was pretty tempted to buy a drink and try it out from here. Parking lot is entered through Reseda and there's a whole area of the lot that's been fenced off for the longest. Might be hard to enter or exit if it's a busy time because of traffic. No bathrooms! I wanted beef jerky, a dish I always order from thai restaurants but I couldn't find it on the menu. Luckily there was such a thing when I ordered!!! The beef jerky was chewy and not super hard when I bit it. The meat was good quality, it was a bit like steak to be honest!!! The fried rice was also just regular order but it was so tasty, buttery, and yummy. I loved the honey roasted ribs because it was so tender and flavorful. The panang curry was also super super good. I don't usually enjoy curry like that because it gets too spicy but the mild level was perfect for my taste buds and so good and creamy with the chicken we ordered for it. The white rice it came with would be doused with the curry sauce/stew and it would just be an amazing combo of flavors!!!! Fried dry Tōfu, bits of airy fried egg, pieces of shrimp, chopped green onions, red bellpepper slices, refreshingly watery crunchy bean sprouts. 3) Angel Wings: Pleasantly light, crunchy Panko Japanese bread crumb coating. The chicken meat filling in the deboned chicken wing is ultra puréed to the point it's a solid, gummy pâté where you can't distinguish the different ingredients. Cubed Cucumber sweet, acidic vinegar sauce, and sweet, thickened Thai chile sauce are the accompaniments. . 4) Pad Si Yu: Mostly similar ingredients as the Pad Ki Mao but without the aromatic Thai basil, and a sweet soy sauce is used for touch of fermented earthiness. Florets of al dente broccoli. To me, the flavours are duller than the exemplary Pad Ki Mao. Main dining room along with covered back patio seating. Wide window to view what's happening in the kitchen for tables near the front entrance. Good overall Thai food. 4- stars
