We frequent Pho Bistro 2 in town and could only hope that the original was just as good. Well I'm happy to report that I actually think the broth at Pho Bistro is more flavorful than its townie counterpart. I usually load up my chicken pho with hoisin and Siracha sauce, but the broth was so good that I ate my dinner without all the bells and whistles. The flavor was so perfect that my daughter and I gleefully ate every piece of chicken smiling at one another. We came here on a mission to cure my pho-nomenal craving for soupy comfort food. The shop itself is a bit tricky to locate, use Suzie's Adult store as you're marker (it is in the same complex). Upon entering, we were immediately greeted, seated, and given the chance to order. We took the waiter's suggestion of sharing the extra large combination pho and the BBQ skewers. The food came out pretty fast. The BBQ skewers came with several pieces of lettuce for wrapping. I've yet to master wrapping my food in lettuce so for me, it was a bit of a messy item to eat. It sure was tasty though. When our huge pho bowl came out, a small pang of terror struck. What had we gotten ourselves into, I thought. The bowl was larger than my head. In it contained probably an entire bag of vermicelli noodles and what seemed like 1/3 of a gallon of broth. While there was a generous amount of thin slices of beef-the tendon and tripe were few and far between. I do appreciate the fact that they do not skimp on the accompanying herbs & bean sprouts. Generally this is my litmus for how authentic a pho restaurant is-if they bust out the proper herbs and if they give you a good amount, you're in good hands. Overall, the broth here was just okay. The first couple times we came here, they greeted us and seated us right away but I think it's now a different owner or they have new workers but the last time we came here no one greeted us, we just seated ourselves and no one came to take our order, after 20 minutes of waiting we just walked out. So my favorite pho place in Chinatown was closed for a month leaving me with major pho withdrawls. So on a Sunday, with my husband deep into his hangover from his bachelor party the night before coupled with us both being sunbaked from a day in the sun out at White Plains, the search for pho began. I just wanted a spot on the way home from Kapolei, and yelp directed me here. Heads up, you can't make a u-turn on Farrington at the Leokane intersection when you are headed East (Waikiki) bound. Which is fine, because you can turn onto Leokane and then make an immediate left into the plaza that Pho Bistro is in. It is tucked into the corner, and let me tell you I didn't have high hopes when I saw the 24 hour sex store in the same plaza. But hey, I have found great sushi at a restaurant squeezed between a 7-11 and a Planned Parenthood, so I shouldn't have judged so quickly. The menu seems limited to noodle based dishes - vermicelli and pho. There were a few rice dishes, but not many. My husband and I both ordered the regular pho - mine was round eye with fatty brisket, his was round eye with flank, we asked for the side of cilantro and green onions for $1. While it took a bit for the food to come out the servers were attentive and immediately brought ice water and were quick to refill empty glasses even though the restaurant was fairly busy. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had all the sides served in Chinatown pho spots - the sawtooth herb most importantly as it is my favorite addition. They also didn't skimp on jalapenos. The broth was clear and very, very flavorful. My husband even mentioned how much he liked the broth, and he considers most pho to be flavorless. I was surprised to see that there was a lot of meat in the bowls as that tends not to be the case. There was a great ratio of meat to noodles and it wasn't like you were powering down tons of noodles long after you finished off the meat. Slightly pricier at nearly $8 a bowl for regular size (more use to paying $5 down in Chinatown), but you get a lot for what you pay for. They are open until 9 and since they are basically 1 exit down the H1 from our house, they are my new evening pho spot! read more

Parking kinda sucks here.... Come early to beat the lunch/dinner crowd. Especially on rainy days! They share the parking lot with the other businesses in the area. Pho is good. Veggies are fresh... could be picked better.... and Service....they are really nice, but there's this one girl in there... she's kinda spacey. I asked her to refill my water several times and she walked by with a dumbfounded look. After I paid my bill (you walk up to the counter to pay), I had asked for a Thai iced coffee. Of course she walked by me 4 times before I finally asked another guy to get it for me... which I had to wait longer because they had to make it. Anyway, I still put 4 stars because I don't know many good pho places out in Waipahu and this place is pretty good. Overall, this place is OK. Not my favorite Pho place. PRO's: 1) The place is pretty clean and decorated compared to other Pho places. The set-up inside the restaurant is nice. The tables are equipped with everything you need...the essential sauces, chopsticks, little bowls to mix your sauces... 2) The staff is friendly. The girl helping our table was very attentive. She filled our water frequently and asked us how we were doing several times. Very courteous. 3) Veggies were fresh. The broth was hot, but just OK. Again, not my favorite but it worked. I like my broth to be pretty bold in its taste. Pho Bistro has a milder tasting broth. 4) Vietnamese Coffee was yummy! Brewed strong, just how I like it! The serving was a little small though. CON's: 1) Thai Iced Tea...from a can? I love the freshly made stuff. So I was bummed to get Thai Iced Tea from a can. I ended up asking for a Vietnamese Coffee instead. 2) The broth was just OK. For people who LOVE pho, we know the broth makes or breaks this signature dish. I was hoping for a stronger flavor to carry the weight of the ingredients. (Then again, I know the taste of pho is pretty subjective...So those who like a milder broth will probably enjoy this place a lot.) 3) Too much stringy, weird tendon thingies in my brisket! Next time I'll know not to order brisket from here! Usually when I order brisket, it's pure meat...but not here. It still had tendons and what not attached. Not yummy at all. Horrible customer service! I ordered 2 house special beef pho and they give me noodles with meatballs soup. I went there the next day and instead of apologizing they were yelling at me telling me to order with the number 12 and showing me the menu, which clearly says house special. I think it was the cut of meats that are used...I liked the other meat... In any case. The flavor of the soup was good and the amount of meat was good. Best PHO on the island!!! I am a pho addict and so far, Pho BIistro is my most favoritestest. I love this place and literally wanted to eat here every single day during my last pregnancy in fact I often times find myself still longing for this warm yummy goodness daily lol. To me their broth is the best I have tried. And I like many others have tried an array of places, but this one hits the spot for muah. I keep coming back and find it very hard to stay away. I love how refreshing this broth is. I have no idea how they make it or what goes in it but I LOVES it! My usual is the pho with brisket and brisket fat with lots and lots of basil plus a little mixture of the hot sauce and the hoisin. My mom was one of their first customers and has turned many many people on to this wonderful little establishment. In fact my whole family eats here, including my husband and our minions. Our kids LOVE the pho here and can devour a good amount of it! They all choose their own veggies and they all like the same sauce I use. My husband on the other hand likes their pork chops with rice and their vermicelli with spring rolls. OMGosh their vermicelli is off the hook! No seriously it is some NOM NOM NOM great stuff. I often times find myself torn between pho or vermicelli. I also like their Thai Coffee its so perfect for me because I love me some strong coffee. Or if it's later in the day I get a honeydew bubble drink. The boys also enjoy their tapiocas. I have yet to try their oxtail soup but will do so eventually since I go often. Delicious. Really. The broth here is so light and savory and filled with some kind of delicious goodness. I wish I had found out about this place sooner. I came here to nurse myself back to health after suffering a battle with the flu. I was on a pho rampage eating pho for several days straight. Pho Bistro was the clear winner. The only downside is that the serving portions tend to be on the smaller side and they are a little skimpy with the meat; solid serving of noodles. But the broth sooo makes up for this. Trust me. PS. Food: I love everything I order. My "go to" dishes are usually spring rolls, summer rolls, meatball/steak pho and Vietnamese iced coffee. The broth of the pho is flavorful and they give you a good amount of bean sprouts and mint leaves. The medium size is big enough to share and the large is huge. The coffee is strong and actually keeps me up all day. Location: This restaurant is tucked in the middle of this old shopping center near a Korean restaurant. There is a local takeout, a Japanese and Korean restaurant and Suzie's adult store. The outside of this place may look rough but the food is worth it. Parking here sucks! I tend to come when the parking lot is full AND when I do find parking, it's a small parking spot. Price: The prices here are about the average when you compare it to other Vietnamese restaurants. I am a townie, and I have my fave pho spot... But when I'm on the west side, Pho Bistro is my go-to spot. It is probably my fave spot for pho outside of town. Highlights: - Pho is GOOD. Clear, tasty soup. Not the kind where you want to drown yourself with water afterwards because of too much MSG. This is the good kind. - The slices of steak (as in rare steak in my pho tai) are good and plentiful. - Spring rolls are good - Pork skewers are really good - super tasty. I am in LOVE with their satay/hot sauce--it reminds me of the type that was at my fav chinese restaurant long ago (Duck yun.) Flaky, semi-oily, and a hint of fish/cuttlefish. Idk what's in it, but there has to be crack since I downed 2 saucers with my pho. Pho comes in 2 sizes: regular and large. Price is higher than I thought being in Waipahu, but still relatively cheap. I've eaten here like twenty times and it's always been good. I only get the fried spring rolls and either rare beef or chicken pho because it's what I go there for. You can get full from the regular size bowl of pho, you don't need the large I promise you. The chicken pho is ok, but not the best. There beef pho is as good as any I've had. THE BEST PHO BROTH IVE EVER HAD! My family especially my dad has been coming here since I was in high school! We as a family enjoy coming here to get our soup fix! I recently came home from Cali. And I had another bowl of their house special in a large size. The portion was enormous and the flavor of the broth was unforgettable. I barely had to use my hoisin sauce and I particularly love this place because they offer the amazing red chili flake condiment, which is oh-so-delicious. I've had a lot of Pho in San Diego and Pho Bistro is ranked much higher in my books of flavor and portion. So me I'm thinking like Pho is Pho, they all taste the same to me. But one bite into the brisket and meatballs Pho, I was convinced. The broth tastes so good it has depth, omg talk about the ocean. It goes well in harmony with the meat and noodles. The downside is the side dish of kabobs, I thought I was having four kabobs only had two for the price of $6 or $7. This place was recommended to me by a few people so we decided to eat here since we were feeling like eating pho on such a frigid 70 degree evening. It was weekday and when we got there we had to put our names in to wait a little. I was thinking, hmm must be good. Probably waited for about 5 minutes and we were seated. I ordered what I normally order, chicken pho, and we shared a side of spring rolls. It was super busy so we waited a little bit for our food. We finally got our food. I love that the spring rolls were not badly priced like the other pho places. Pretty tasty too. Loved their broth. Their noodles were a little bit different but I liked it. Lots of dark meat chicken pieces though which I didn't eat (because I'm finicky at times). Well actually I was actually pretty full from my regular order already and my mouth was burning from putting so much sriracha sauce in my pho. I Got the Lemongrass chicken rice plate which was kind of too spicy for me I couldn't eat too much. Usually the other places I've tried was mild. I also got a Shrimp rice plate and that was delicious. Ordered a side of broth, just to see if I would want to try the Pho next time and the broth was also delicious. I used to love coming here back in the day. I wanted pho and thought it would be right to come back since it's been a while. My husband and I were the only ones there and somehow got the worst customer service ever. The older lady came back to our table 3 times because she forgot what we ordered. I didn't really understand because we were the only ones there and they still got our order wrong. We asked for spring rolls, combination pho, and Thai tea smoothie. Our spring rolls were so tiny, the lettuce was so soggy and normally it would come out piping hot but it was warm. We were waiting for our smoothie and we didn't hear a blender going. She finally came back and asked what were waiting for and we told her. But she came out with the wrong drink. Instead of a smoothie, she came out with just a regular Thai tea drink. Went here on a weekday around 11:40AM. There were two servers, a young man and a young woman who both greeted us when we walked in. My party and I were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted. The restaurant only had one other party who was already eating their food. I think the price here is great. The spring rolls are around $5 dollars plus tax. That is cheaper than most places. The spring rolls come with a side of vermicelli and vegetables. I got the grilled chicken vermicelli. The dish was around $9 plus tax. The dish consists of grilled chicken, vermicelli, greens, and the side of fish sauce. The chicken was flavorful and went extremely well with the vermicelli. The restaurant is cozy and got busy around 12-12:30 noon. They have air conditioning which is great. The girl who served us was very nice. Overall the price, service, and food was awesome!
