Read several raving reviews about this place so I decided to give it a shot. I didn't get to dine in, but I did however order their food through doordash. I got the pork rice plate x2, a side of their fresh spring rolls with pork, and a banh mi sandwich. I was in complete disbelief at what appeared in my order once it was delivered to me. I opened my rice plate to find there was literally no protein in the box. It came with about 5 slivers of this thin sliced meat, which did NOT look like any of the pictures on their page. It was almost as if they cooked enough protein for one box but decided to split it in half between my orders. Which is not right at all, especially if I'm paying an up charged amount by ordering through a third party app. Then to top it off, I opened my box of spring rolls only to find there were only 2 pieces, when the menu clearly states you get 4! I couldn't shake my head any harder than I was already doing so. And to make matters worse, the pork that was inside the spring roll looked like the meat they attempted to pass off inside the rice plate. There were 2 pieces of this thin sliced meat inside the spring roll. Definitely not enough to taste any kind of flavor. I was so disappointed in my meal that I didn't even get to the banh mi. I believe in second chances but at this point, I'm not really sure the next time I would order here. My disgust for the food quality is such a turn off from this place. Amazing food. Very generous proportions, and a very affordable price. We got called in an order for pick-up. We ordered #38 pho with sliced steak, brisket, flank, tender and tripe, fried egg roll, and Korean Short Ribs with rice. They told me that my order would be ready in 15 mins, and the price of my order. When we arrived 15mins later the order was ready for pickup. When we arrived I noticed the place was well lit with plenty of parking, neat, orderly and clean. If you pay with cash, your order is 10% off. Everything was packed neatly and was still very hot to the touch. We brought out food back home and enjoyed it comfortably. I like that they gave us Siracha & hoisain sauce packets. I've never seen then before, but it was so convenient. They packed the noodles for the pho separately from the broth. This prevented the noodles from being soggy, and kept the meat rare. The pho also came with bean sprouts, jalapeños, limes, and Thai basil. The broth was so tasty, it was rich in flavor and tasted very comforting. I suggest heating the soup in a pot so you can pour the boiling hot soup into the take-out bowl containing the noodles and meat. We definatly had to grab a extra large bowl to eat our pho with. There was so much noodles and meat packed into it, we didn't expect so much food! My friend really enjoyed the Korean short ribs. They were cooked perfectly and flavorful, they came with rice, and a little side salad with lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, and pickled cucumbers and carrots. The salad came with a light vinegar based dressing. The egg rolls were traditional giant spring rolls filled with ground meat that came with lettuce, and picked cucumbers & carrots. It was was perfectly crispy, and cooked to perfection and came with a vinegar based dipping sauce. We could not finish all the food we got between the 3 of us. This place is one of the best for Vietnamese noodle soup and pho. Service was quick and my food came out less than 10 minutes. I ordered the bun bo hue which is the spicy noodle beef soup and a fried eggroll. Both tasted truly authentic and amazing. The eggroll was hot and fresh when it was served. It was super crispy and I have never had a more crispier eggroll than at Pho Cali. I also enjoyed the bun bo hue. ( spicy beef noodle soup) it came with huge proportion and I would say a bit too spicy for me to handle but I do recommend this dish as its one of the more authentic Vietnamese noodle soup. It's the worst Pho I've ever had! The chicken was dried up sandwich type meat. The seafood was nearly inedible! The noodles were thrown in the bowl in a ball, as if they had been sitting out all week! The fresh rolls sauce was disgusting! I've literally never tasted worse Vietnamese food ever. I've had great vietnamese food and not so great vietnamese good. I basically rate Vietnamese restaurants on flavor of the food, service, and value. If the grilled meats are done right, I would consider it the real deal. Unfortunately the grilled meat and rice dish was quite disappointing. The grilled pork (usually served with) at a great vietnamese restaurant is char broiled. The meat here seemed to be stir fried or partially steamed. It wasn't the best quality in comparison to more authentic vietnamese restaurants. Maybe this is the new menu or chef since it seems like they've had decent reviews in the past. I am actually blown away by how amazing Pho Cali is. Had it just been another pho shop somewhere in South Sacramento with a much larger Vietnamese presence, perhaps I wouldn't be as shocked. Spring rolls - This is an appetizer that just uses fresh ingredients, so unless someone is a really messy roller, it taste more or less the same for the most part. However, what makes the spring rolls here memorable is how good their peanut sauce is. Now not every place tastes like that! Yummy. Pho - I got the combination beef pho. The broth was flavorful, and I enjoy the different cuts of meat. Hu Tieu - So good! For the combination one, there's a lot of different things going on like different pork cuts, shrimp, ground meat, quail eggs, etc...The broth is also full of flavor. I love this order and definitely something I would gladly go for again. There was only one slight weird instance involving this order. I wanted Hu Tieu Mi and requested a combination of flat rice noodle and egg noodle. This is a very common combination with this recipe and has always been offered at every Vietnamese restaurants I have ever been to. When I asked for both with my order, our server told me "pick ONE." I was really confused because if it is an upcharge, just say so. It's totally fine. But it's the fact that she made it seem like it wasn't even an option and insisted I only choose one or the other when the restaurant clearly offered both. I did not want to make a scene because it clearly wasn't that serious...but I still think about that incident and hope it's a misunderstanding and not someone being rude for no reason. Popped by here after the mall. The customer service is really nice and the place has a lot of seating. They accept card and do to go. They stream sports on the tv . I'm a little sad about the pho , the broth is pretty salty and portions are ehh for the price. They didn't give a lot of bean sprouts/mint for the amount of people that was eating and the meat was pretty cooked compared to how it usually is. I was craving spring rolls and banh mi since arriving in a Cali a week ago. Today I talked my friends into trying this place out. We were not disappointed, even my friend who isn't a fan of ethnic food found something to eat here. I got a milk Thai tea with boba, spring rolls and won ton pho. Also got a banh mi for tomorrow, so I haven't tried it yet. My friend got the pho without tripe, my other friend got the Korean beef ribs and she got pot stickers. She liked the pot stickers and said the beef was ok. The pho is huge bowls so if you don't have a big appetite it's better to share a bowl. The won tons in mine were really good, something I definitely miss in Ohio (the won tons there are gross) sorry not sorry. The spring rolls were very good as well. The peanut sauce was ok. The spring rolls are legs as well. Overall very good food. A little on the pricey side but they do give you a lot of food. The service was very friendly and fast. I did not expect much from a Vietnamese place in Rocklin. I was pleasant surprised. Came here for lunch on a Friday after running an errand here. Venue and staff: clean, plenty of parking, staff was nice but not very attentive for being about 50% capacity with plenty of wait staff. We ordered a grilled beef vermicelli noodle bowl and an egg noodle seafood soup, as well as two rice plates with egg cakes and grilled pork. The food was solid. The ice coffee is really sweet, so ask for extra ice :). Overall, I'd probably give the food a 3.8 star (rounding up to 4). I just don't understand how this place has such high ratings. I've been here twice, gave it a second chance, and both times were bad experiences. Beware: They do not follow COVID outlines. Sauces and utensils are left on the tables and I didn't see the server clean any of them off after clearing the tables. We were here during 25% capacity. I came here after seeing the positive reviews and I'm shocked this is the same restaurant. My advice is to spend your money elsewhere. Let me start by saying the pho is overly seasoned and has an unpleasant sweetness. What they lack for in quality and taste, they substitute with excessive portions i.e. too much of a bad thing. The rare steak wasn't very good either. And the service is complete crap. This kid just doesn't have a clue as to what customer service is. Be prepared to wait for everything. My wife and I were visiting family near here and I unfortunately was sick. Well, being sick I was craving some good soup. Thankfully Pho Cali was close and I ordered some Pho and a Bahn Mi. I ordered take out and was stoked initially that it was probably only going to be a 20 minute or so wait, but by the time I finished ordering I was told it was going to take 60 minutes... So that was weird. The Bahn Mi was great, the head cheese and ham offered a great salty meat, the veggies were super fresh tasting, and the pickled veggies were great. The bread was pretty fresh and crispy. And the pho was nicely put together. I ordered the large since it was only a couple dollars more than the small, I was shocked to see it was basically double the small order. So what a great deal. That being said I was really looking forward to a lot of tripe and tendon, especially with a large order, but there was not much at all. Sadly the pho was almost entirely rice noodle and very little tripe and tendon, but it was loaded with bean sprouts. This is the first Vietnamese place we've tried after failing to find a spot that serves real oxtail pho. So I'm going to try to be fair in grading knowing the demographic of the area. If you're in the know you know you're supposed to wrap it in the lettuce and pickled radish/carrots they give you for some freshness. If you havent done that before, try it. I wish they threw in some mint too but I digress.... The banh mi: I was excited when I saw they offered a real banh mi....head cheese, pate, and all. Alas it left me disappointed. There should have been at least double the meat that they put in there. It basically tasted like a pickled radish/carrot sandwich because there was too little meat. The pho: the broth isnt real, but I understand why. It was still good and piping hot. They give you huge pieces of tendon....just the way I like it. The brisket and rare steak was plentiful.
