Alright, I gave them another shot. I'd been doing deliveries lately and they're really friendly in there. I was on one for Pho this eve, my usually place shut down shop and I was out of luck. Called up Pho Cao, they do offer a vegetarian pho with a veggie broth from an added $1. Word, I'll go for it. It was ready quickly, they package it up nicely so the broth doesn't over cook everything. A few new veggies in this one, what is this potato like item? Is it potato? I have no idea, but it's delicious. Will this replace my new spot? Not likely, though it is a decent second, I'll ask them to leave the tofu triangles for someone who likes tofu next time. I may even consider trying more items in the future. Kiddo went with chicken fried rice, said the chicken was really good, was a bit bummed he found no egg but he ate the whole thing. They used to be my go to spot and I have been a loyal patron for YEARS, they're that good... So what gives? It's been over a year since I've eaten here because, well COVID really messed things up. So, yesterday I indulged my craving for their fried rice and lemongrass beef/chicken dishes and was left underwhelmed. Flavors were off and I was definitely sad because I hadn't had them in awhile...Worst part? They didn't clean their seafood well--at all. Looking for pho and com (rice plate) dishes in Scottsdale and we ended up here. It was around 1:30 on a Sunday so definitely not a lot of people. It's our first time here and it's definitely different - it's a Vietnamese restaurant playing reggae with a live music stage. Apparently it gets poppin at night? Anyway, food was meh. My food, Pork Combo Plate, came at least 15 minutes before my boyfriend's pho. It was $14 - rice, pork, the blandest wings, and egg roll. Very meh. I asked for a small side of pho broth but it was extra so I asked for a bowl instead and get some from my boyfriend. I also got thai tea in a pint glass filled with ice which was $5. Certainly not very appetizing. I ordered the ramen noodle pho to try something different. The pho comes with rare steak and brisket, ramen noodles, and a boiled egg. The broth was pretty nice and the meat was fairly decent. However, the cilantro and basil on the side looked as if it came out of the trash or the alley behind the restaurant. Very poor quality, dry and wilted. I would have liked to have tried the fresh spring rolls, but they were a little pricey. I've driven by Pho Cao a bunch of times, and finally got to try it when we decided to get carry-out. I ordered the Surf and Turf pho, my s/o got the shaken beef, and my brother got the house fried rice. The pho was nothing special, though I did think it was cool that they gave me raw beef in a separate container from my soup (so it still cooked in my bowl at home). My s/o loved the shaken beef, and I also thought it was quite tasty. The house fried rice, on the other hand, was dry and the BBQ pork wasn't quite as fragrant as it usually is, so it was kind of a letdown. Obviously, take-out isn't the best way of judging a restaurant's food quality, so keep that in mind. We weren't in there for very long, but we really dug the vibes and definitely want to go back to hang out and give the food a second chance. read more
