Came here to try a new pho spot that is not our usuals. Tucked in the corner, it wasn't very busy in a Thursday night. We were seated immediately. The inside is large and had a lot of tables. We got the regular pho and some spring rolls. The soup was really good and we left very satisfied. Would recommend as your local pho spot in RPQ.
This rating is 3.7 stars We were excited to try this new spot on Father's Day that offered pho beef short ribs. It's tucked away in a corner which was pretty hidden. There was only one table occupied when we came. The interior decor was nice and elegant. It was spacious and can seat a large party at one end of the restaurant. We ordered spring rolls and 2 of P4 short ribs beef. The server said it now comes in 2 ribs but thinner cut. The spring rolls came out first and the taste of the sauce and spring rolls itself was just ok because it lacked a bit of flavor. The pho came out next. The broth was standard but the beef ribs were nice and tender. The beef ribs were the only protein and unfortunately some of the other places we recently checked out also added other meats, tendon, and tripe to their beef rib pho. For that reason, their competitors stand out a bit more. They don't bring out the check when we asked for the bill. You have to walk up to the register to pay which I thought was a bit inconvenient. Even so, the cashier was about to mix up my table for a large party that just sat down.
I've eaten here a handful of times now. I'm not a fan for their pho or pho broths as it's a bit sweet for my taste. I am a fan of their banh mi sandwiches and rice plates though. Tom is my favorite server here as he has the best memory and is super sweet. Prices are higher than what you would get in other Vietnamese places nearby in Mira Mesa. It's rarely been busy when I've visited or ordered take out. Each dish seems freshly made so it isn't always a quick meal if you dine in. The grilled pork banh mi is to die for. Yeah $13 is pricey for a banh mi but the bread is so delicious. It's served warm with just a great freshness to it. The grilled pork isn't all lean which I love as it provides extra flavor to the sandwich along with the fresh pickled veggies. It's also wrapped in paper when it's served. The grilled pork plate is filling and i appreciate how they'll sub extra veggies in lieu of rice. Their to go packaging is top notch as well (they have forgotten the side soup for the plate orders). I'd absolutely return to try more items.
I ordered the P1 G-beef special pho bowl which consisted of rare beef, brisket, flank, tendon and tripe. The broth was delicious and portion was good! Fast and friendly service and clean restaurant too!
I was excited to try this relatively new Vietnamese place that opened in Rancho Penasquitos. As they are newly opened, I think there are many small improvements that can be made, but overall it was a positive experience. My review is nitpicky on the basis of giving some constructive criticism to this newly opened restaurant. Interior: Spotless and nicely decorated! The conical hat display was lovely. However the bathroom floors are super sticky, and it was totally dark walking into the bathroom because of the double doors. I had to turn on my phone flashlight to find the light switch after trying to feel my way around for a moment. Service: The server was very polite! As they have a small number of staff, it was a little hard to get service a few times, including when coming in. Maybe a little door chime or a "seat yourself" sign would be helpful during times they have fewer employees. Food: Bun cha ha noi - Super flavorful, great char, and beautifully fragrant with herbs. I wish they gave more veggies though, and it also didn't come with any rau ram/Vietnamese coriander. It was beautifully presented on bamboo leaf and felt very impressive! Pho - Subpar despite being the namesake; it's a bit overdone on the spices to the extent that it detracts from the beef flavor, and it was missing a certain rich umami that I typically expect from pho broth. I think for the price, which is maybe 40-50%(!) higher than current prices at other pho places nearby, it had to be excellent to be worth it, and this did not come close. Seafood crispy fried egg noodles - Deliciously crisp with a savory sauce and relatively generous helping of seafood and veggies. My mom loved this dish the most. Overall a decent, clean, and uncrowded Vietnamese place with solid menu offerings, albeit at a bit higher than typical price. I think it's worth stopping by to try some of the less common Vietnamese dishes that they offer.
I wanted a quick bite in the area and that plaza already has a lot of solid food options, but Pho G‑Beef caught my eye. It's kind of tucked away in the corner near the smoke shop, easy to miss if you're not looking for it, but once you find it there's signage pointing you in. What stood out right away is that they brand themselves as bringing a taste of northern Vietnam with family recipes and more traditional flavors, which I was excited about, especially being Vietnamese and not having a ton of options like this directly in Rancho Penasquitos. When I walked in around 2 pm on a Thursday, there was actually a good amount of people dining in, which is always a good sign. The space is pretty big with a lot of seating, so I can see it handling bigger groups or being a regular takeout spot for locals. Service was friendly too. I ordered to go but they still brought my food out to the table which I appreciated. The menu is pretty extensive. They have rice plates, fried rice, vermicelli bowls, egg noodles, vegetarian options, appetizers like spring rolls and wings, plus pho of course. Drinks range from teas to juices and smoothies. I came specifically for the banh mi though. I ordered the S3 grilled beef banh mi, which came out to $12.50 before tax. So realistically you're paying around $13, which I will say is on the pricier side, especially considering it's also probably the smallest banh mi I've had. Compared to spots in Mira Mesa, you're definitely paying a couple dollars more, probably because of location. It took about 10 minutes to come out. I did ask for no cucumber and got a verbal confirmation, but when I opened it later there were actually a lot of cucumbers in there. Not a huge deal for me since it's preference, but still something to note because if it were an allergy situation that would be a problem. Once I picked them out, I noticed the spread right away. It had this slight orange tint, almost like a sriracha aioli. At first I was a little thrown off because when a place emphasizes "traditional," you expect the usual pate and mayo situation. I've had garlic aioli before, but never something like this. But honestly after the first bite, I didn't even care about that. It was really good. The grilled beef was thinly shaved and well marinated, so it wasn't dry at all. That aioli added a nice level of spice, which actually made up for the fact that there were no jalapeños. The flavor worked really well together. The pickled carrots and daikon were cut very thin, almost more like what you'd see in vermicelli bowls, so you don't get that same crunchy bite that I personally look for in a banh mi. That was probably the one thing I felt was missing. The bread though was really good. Lightly toasted, tasted fresh, and held everything together well without being too hard or cutting up the roof of your mouth. Even though the sandwich itself is smaller, it was still filling and had a decent amount of meat. Overall, yes it's smaller and more expensive than what you might be used to, and there were a couple small misses like the cucumber situation and less crunch from the pickles, but the flavors were there. That spicy aioli and the quality of the beef really carried it. I could see this being a convenient local spot if you're in the area and don't want to drive out for Vietnamese food. It's not the most traditional banh mi I've had, but it's still a good one, and I'd come back to try more from the menu.
This was our first time here, and unfortunately, it will definitely be our last. If I could rate it a 0 star, I would. We ordered a kid pho with meatballs for our daughters, and shortly after eating, both of them got food poisoning. I even tasted the broth myself afterward, and it was clearly sour. Pho broth should never taste sour unless you add lime, which we did not use. My older daughter, who ate more of the pho, had it the worst. She developed a severe stomach ache, was crying in pain, and eventually threw up everything she ate. It was honestly a scary and upsetting experience as a parent. We contacted the restaurant, and instead of showing concern, they immediately dismissed the possibility that their food was the cause, insisting their pho is "made fresh daily." Fresh or not, there are many factors that go into safe food handling, and something clearly went wrong here. Very disappointing experience overall--not just the food, but the lack of accountability. We will not be returning.
Stopped by G-Beef after a quick trip to Vons Market. My husband and I ordered the pho đặc biệt and bún chả Hà Nội. The bún chả Hà Nội was the highlight, really well-balanced flavors, and the meat was tender and juicy. Definitely something I'd order again. The pho, on the other hand, was a bit underwhelming for me. It tasted similar to other pho spots around and didn't really stand out. Service was friendly and welcoming. The space is big, new, and very clean. The waiter mentioned they've only been open for a little over a year, which makes sense given how fresh everything feels. It may not be the most authentic pho I've had, but if I had to choose, I'd still go for Vietnamese food here.
Can you believe this place has a happy hour? I caught the sign on the way in. The interior is lovely. It feels newly renovated, bright, and spacious. I especially loved the decor touches like the Vietnamese rice hats on the walls and the large floral planters throughout. I came specifically for the Bun Cha Ha Noi. While it definitely hit the spot and fixed my craving, it was missing that specific, deep savory "punch" you find in the most authentic versions. That said, the presentation was beautiful. We also tried the fried chicken wings and the pho. Both were good and nothing stood out. The service was pleasant. The vibe on a Thursday night was quiet and relaxed. I really appreciated the Vietnamese music playing in the background. Overall, a very decent spot for the PQ area.
First coming in, cute little place has decorations on the way with traditional Vietnamese hats. Seating was seat yourself and the over space was huge. Server came by and took our order, I ordered the P1 the special, and came out pretty fast. The broth overall was clean and plenty of meat. Only wish the broth was a little hotter since there was a lot of meat and the raw beef had to cook. Overall good and fast service and the strawberry lemonade was really good.
The egg rolls and bun cha were the highlights of our meal! The wings and pho were also very good - pho was light and fragrant! The employees were so kind and attentive! It did take a bit for food to come out, but not a problem given we weren't in any rush. I'll be back to try other dishes!

Overall a solid pho place in Rancho Peñasquitos! The entrance is a bit hidden but once you enter, the space is large and open with plenty of seats. The menu includes the classic options such as pho, rice plates, fried rice, rice noodle bowls, appetizers, and banh mi sandwiches. Service was friendly and prompt. The food came out quickly and was fresh and tasty. You check out at the front counter when you're ready to pay. I felt the prices were a little high given how cheap vermicelli noodles and vegetables cost and the portion size (the egg roll/fresh roll combo was $13 and pho bowls were $16-18) which is why I gave it 4 stars.
I was not expecting much especially because I've tried many Vietnamese restaurants in San Diego. However, the food was tasty, ingredients were fresh and portions were large. I like how the vermicelli noodles were warm and how they added a lot of cucumbers and pickled daikon to balance out the big portion of grilled pork. We also ordered the spring rolls, pretty standard and tasted fresh. Service was quick, and the space is much bigger than it seems. I'd come again if I don't want to venture further south! read more

Wow, the Pho here is absolutely amazing. The rice noodles were absolutely top tier quality, not mushy, not too firm, just perfect. Now the broth? AMAAAAZING. Prob the best broth I've had so far. It's so flavorful, without it being too beefy. It's not too rich, and it has a refreshing taste to it almost. I had the short ribs beef pho and the portion was HUGE. Like, could feed another person huge. It came with two hunkin' bones packed with succulent fall off the bone meat. Service was quick and the interior is spanking brand new. Would def recommend and it's now a family favorite. read more
This place is lovely! The ambiance and aesthetic of the restaurant is so beautiful it's very spacious and the decor is actually quite classy the flower pots are super cute. The service was pretty good and quick it seems like it is a family business, when I went it was fairly empty and I was surprised because the food was excellent. Their chicken bahn mi was so good and well seasoned and the bread is so good. We also got their beef pho and the flavor was wonderful and so hearty. I came here to try their pho, as it was conveniently located near me. The P1, is your standard #1 pho special and it did not disappoint. I got what I expected, your standard beef pho in a hot clear broth, with your standard condiments. The medium size was enough for me. The order came super fast, within 5 minutes. There's plenty of seats to accomodate larger groups. The atmosphere is relatively quiet and I was able to enjoy my meal in peace. I would come back again because it's convenient and the pho meets my expectations. One small thing that needs improvement- the cup of water tasted slightly like soap. Maybe just rinse it a bit more next time. Easy fix! read more

Update: I've been back several times now, and enjoyed many dishes, but today I discovered another favorite! Bun cha ha noi. It's listed under the Buns but the presentation is extra-gorgeous! Presented on a beautiful woven platter on a banana leaf, the dish includes grilled pork belly and ground pork patties, rice noodles, lettuce, mint and a mild sweet fish sauce with green papaya and carrots. Divine! I would recommend sharing this with two people. I ended up taking half of the meat and sauce home and making a second meal with fresh noodles, extra lettuce and mint from my garden. Just so beautiful and delicious! The table condiments added extra oomph - the chili sauce and pickled garlic are my favorite! This dish costs $2 more than the basic bun but it is totally worth it! On a prev visit, I also had the chicken wing appetizer which was finger-lickin good. They are currently running a promo where you can draw a random coupon for up to 20% off! So make sure to grab a ticket before you leave. Service was super friendly and helpful as always! read more
Terrible all around. Really unfortunate as I wanted to be able to support an Asian ran place. Dinner on a Sunday night and place was empty, maybe 5 tables. 1). Constantly brought other tables orders to us, 3 times. Extra appetizer. Extra beer. Extra dish. I don't understand how they did not double check after the first time. 2). Food was terribly slow. 4 items plus an app. 15 mins for spring rolls. Bun Cha came out after that, then Ca Thanh Long. Pho was way way after that. Our beef stew didn't even come out, we had to ask for it 3 times. Everyone else was done eating. Husband paid bill and we were STILL waiting. When I went to cancel it, is when the stew was finally done. 3) PLASTIC was in our pho! Daughter choked on it. Saved it and told the staff. Nothing was done. It was not removed from our bill, no discount. Just asked for the proof, which we had. Terrible, bad service, pho had plastic and broth was meh. I wish I could tell you how the beef stew was but we didn't even get to eat it. They have been open for months now. Not acceptable. read more

Very clean and bright space... they've done a great job of rejuvenating this space. Feels fresh and inviting. The service was friendly, but sparse. This could be due to a mid-week early time we chose to have dinner. We got there just as it opened. Now to the juicy stuff (pun intended)... the food was good. At the table we had a rice plate with pork and a plate with beef, chicken pho, and spring rolls. The meats were deliciously marinated, and the portion sizes were generous. The side of kimchi that came with the rice dishes is actually really good! Not too acidic, and with just the right crunch. The cold cucumber and tomato slices offered a refreshing bite as well. The bahn mi was alright. Not as much filling as I'd have preferred, but the bread had a great crunch and a soft center, again with very well cooked and marinated beef and crunchy fresh veggies. The dipping sauce it came with was also nice. The pho was good, served with a plate of bean sprouts, lime wedges, and basil. The chicken was moist, the noodles firm, the broth was a bit oily, but that's probably why it was so flavorful. The table had a cart of various options for spicing up any dish, from siracha and chili oil to pickled garlic and peppers and even dry chili flakes. All in all, the whole family decided we'll be coming back to try some more of the offerings. read more

I just got back from my second trip to Vietnam. I love northern Vietnamese cuisine and it's so much harder to find! I'm happy I found this place. Their broth is so tasty and everything is delicious and good quality. I was also happy to see bun cha on the menu - that is also hard to find around here so I will for sure try it next time! Really enjoyed the food and service I received here! We ordered the bun cha, pork spring rolls, beef bone pho, and chicken with fried rice. The portions are massive and well priced!! There were only three of us and we definitely would've been satisfied just ordering two things but we wanted to try multiple. Pho G-Beef has replaced a Chinese restaurant at the Rancho Penasquitos Towne Center. The grand opening was less than two weeks ago with a special offer of a free soda with an order. I noticed the suite entrance was tucked away in a small corner, but it belied the large, well-lit dining room that could hold about 100 customers. I didn't encounter a wait for a table because my visit occurred during a weekday lunch hour. Maybe half a dozen parties were seated at the time. The menu sheets were posted on a sign at the end of the walkway leading to the dining area. A copy was provided when I sat down at a booth. Usually, I order an appetizer along with rice vermicelli noodles (bun) at casual Vietnamese restaurants. This time, I tried one of the bowls of pho that were available in medium or large sizes. Of the eighteen varieties, I picked the non-fatty Rare Beef and Well-Done Beef (Pho Tai Chin). The typical dish of garnishments (basil, cilantro, lime, bean sprouts) was provided before my medium bowl arrived. The two meats were tender rare steak and brisket. The amount was rather skimpy for the price of $14.50. The more disappointing aspect was the broth as it lacked flavor. I wasn't the only reviewer who noted this either. I didn't receive a complimentary can of soda, but that wasn't the reason why I limited my rating of Pho G-Beef to three stars. Date of visit: January 19, 2025 It's cold season, which also means it's pho season in my case. Nothing helps get over a cold like a hot steaming bowl of pho, and when I heard that Pho G-Beef had just opened in Rancho Penasquitos, resolved to check them out. Located in what used to be the Yenchim Garden location, I was impressed at how modern the place looked in comparison to Yenchim's interior. Clean, bright walls, contemporary music, a TV screen showing Vietnamese cooking techniques... what a difference a month makes from Yenchim Garden's closing to Pho G-Beef's opening makes! Now, onto the food... I placed an order for their Garlic Butter Chicken Wings ($10.75) and a large G-Beef Special Pho (the usual special combination pho of rare beef, brisket, flank steak, tendon, and tripe - $17.50). The wings were decent; while a bit crispy, they're also a bit messy as the garlic butter sauce was tossed over them. However, there's not enough garlic on it to my liking. But the six wings I got were large enough, and I ended up bringing four of them home to my folks. As for the pho... while there was enough of the meat and tripe in my bowl, and the broth was hot, it didn't seem to have too much flavor. Even the four slices of jalapeno, sprig of meat leaves, bean sprouts, and solitary lime wedge wasn't enough to season the pho; luckily there was hoisin and sriracha sauces available to flavor my meal. What I liked about the service was that they didn't kick you out within five minutes of getting your order (as other Vietnamese places I tend to go do). What I didn't like was that not only didn't I get my water refill like I asked, I waited... and waited... and waited for me to get my bill. Ultimately, I saw that other diners were paying at the register, so I did the same. Some kinks to work out, but I'd like to come back again to try the spring rolls and bahn mi. read more

Wonderful addition to PQ! It's hard to find Cha ca Thanh Long in SD, so happy to see it here on the menu! The dipping sauce is a must! Pho beef rib was tender and generous noodles but the broth is a bit bland. Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee is strong! Just the way it should be. Missing Yenchim, but super excited to have a pho spot nearby! I ordered P1 and was really impressed by the flavor. On par with other local pho spots. Generous amount of meat. The medium size was perfect for me. My sister had the vegetarian fried rice (to go) and really liked it too FYI Pay at the front when you're done!! would recommend that they add signage to avoid confusion Service was kind, fast, and friendly. A new Vietnamese restaurant near Mt Carmel High School (in Vons shopping center). Bright & clean, I came here for lunch on a Saturday. I heard they served northern-style Vietnamese pho and wanted to see what it was like. My husband and I both enjoyed our beef pho (mine with rare beef his with well done beef). The broth was so delicious & clear. Not as salty-sweet seasoned as the pho we have been accustomed to eating in San Diego. I didn't get as thirsty as I usually would. My husband ate his entire serving. We enjoyed an order of spring rolls before the pho, and those were delicious! Filled with shrimp and beef; the sauce had lots of crushed peanuts in it and wasn't heavily sweet either. Our server was very cordial, and the service was prompt.
