The sauce with the salad roll was overheated but the gentleman who brought it apologized and offered to replace it. I didn't have to ask or even say anything, he immediately asked if it was okay and explained what happened... I enjoyed it anyway as it was tasty. I also had a banmi sandwich and only ate half because the salad rolls were huge and filling. Hubby had his usual noodle dish and wings. My first visit and first time ordering a filet pho. Also ordered the salad rolls and eggrolls. The pho bowl is gigantic. However it was mostly broth noodles. The meat was basically well done and didn't taste like fillet mignon, more so a regular thinly sliced steak. And there were only 5 mini strips 1.5" sizes. I was disappointed there were any meatballs tendon. For $21 pho I was underwhelmed. Really happy Pho Gabo opens at 10am! I got her noodles with broth and some broccoli and a boiled egg and a Thai ice tea, her favorite. The Bo kho supposedly beef stew, is now nothing but pho broth thrown together with a cube of instant Bo kho spices and raw onions. Yes there was beef brisket but again not part of a stew recipe but a hack from pho ingredients. That cube of spices is littered with MSG you can FEEL in minutes and you'll be running for water due to dry mouth. This review is strictly for the bo kho, which I recommend you AVOID. Been here a handful of times now and typically get the Gabo pho (combination meats). The flavor of the broth is good and what you would typically expect from a good pho joint; aromatic, savory, and a hint of sweetness. No complaints with the texture of the noodles, they were fine and not overcooked. I will say that they are generous with the amount of meats they give you. The pricing for the pho is more on the expensive side compared to other restaurants in the Portland metro area. Expect to pay around $17-$20 for a bowl of pho. The Gabo pho (basically their special pho) costs about $20, however as stated before, they do load your bowl up with a good amount of meat. The portion of the noodles are standard. The service overall is fine. There were a couple of times where I've dined in during steady, not busy, times and it took them awhile to get my order to me. However, the consistency in fulfilling orders has been a real issue. On multiple occasions, they've left items out, and it's starting to get frustrating. Most recently, I placed a pickup order and verbally confirmed everything with the server. The bag was stapled shut, and I was assured everything was inside. Based on past experiences, I double-checked in the car--and sure enough, something was missing again. If you're ordering through DoorDash or Uber Eats, I strongly recommend adding special instructions to have them *open the bag and confirm all items* before leaving the restaurant. While they don't have a super expansive list of proteins they have the major cuts and their base broth is bright and flavorful. I am sticking with my four star rating but felt an update was in order. It's 5 years since my first review. We enjoy our occasional takeout from here and have had it delivered too a few times over the last year. The vermicelli bowls are always beautiful and fresh with umami filled grilled pork, chicken, or shrimp. The eggrolls are a little greasy but with all the fresh veggies you will get over it. Dining companion's vermicelli bowl was beautiful this time, check out the photo. The rice plates are similarly good. My ex- BIL once got a big plate with all the things on it ( including I think meatloaf and an egg?!) and he was very happy and there were plenty of leftovers. The salad rolls are delicious. Period. I had pho this time, and it came with beautiful veggies which sadly I cannot eat right now. I fished the onions out of the pile, squeezed in the fresh lime juice, and floated some basil leaves. The chicken was tender, the broth was very good, and overall I was happy. Everything came nicely packaged separately which is awesome. Fried tofu was great with a nice dipping sauce. We re-heated the broth on the stove at home to make sure it was extra hot so the noodles were easier to break-up when we mixed them together. I must say it was pretty darn close to eating it fresh at the restaurant! The proteins were all top quality. The tendon was melt-in-your-mouth and the tripe was crunchy. The veggie topping bags have a generous amount of fresh bean sprouts, basil, jalapeño, lime, and packets of hoisin and sriracha. There is a $0.50 Take-out charge per entrée, which is fine since there is extra cost for the containers, sauce packets, and utensils. My husband and I have ordered from here many times and the quality hasn't failed us yet! Today we tried the bubble tea for the first time and they were amazing! Taro w/coconut jelly and lychee w/lychee jelly. The only reason I didn't do a 5 star is bc this is the first time they actually fell short on the oxtail pho - a staple for us from this place. Environment: small area but very bright and lots of tables for small and larger groups. Staff: TBH, we've been here since it opened. But in the past the service was so bad, we stopped going for about a year. Luckily we decided to try again. They're all new servers and they're super kind, friendly, fast and great servers! Food: I've tried a good amount of their food. Their pho is nice, you can pick up to 4 toppings for regular size and the soup base is nice. We also got the chicken fried rice. The chicken was nicely grilled and every single rice is covered with egg which means they out extra time to mix it well. The best fried rice, better than other Chinese places I've been to. The last one was the Gabo special plate. It has a little bit of everything and I really liked it. Keep in mind, they have coupons, 10 percent off the entire receipt.
