Mr. Pho Hong Long, I've been selfish by keeping you all to myself but I am now ready to share you with the world. My first visit here I've tried the pho and vermaceli dish at the same time. Yes I was that hungry. To my surprise, I was loving both of them! I was chowing down and blabbering about how good the food was all at once. The pho broth is definitely the best and my favorite in the South Bay now. It's delightfully rich, flavorful and beefy. It does not taste like MSG overload, but rather hearty and satisfying. I normally get the beef & tripe, it taste good and fresh. My recent trip, I tried the beef ball pho and now I'm in love. The beef balls were soft and with the right texture. Other places have their beef balls very tough and big, it just tasted too generic for me. Guess what? They also have fish pho! Yah!! It's pretty tasty! I like the fact that you can either get your pho in small, medium, large or X-large here. Ranges from $6.50 to $9.50. Most places only give you two options, either small or large. If you're not very hungry, a small will do just fine to keep your belly happy. If you like vermaceli then you'll want to pay attention to this and try it at this location! I had their #54 Hong Long Special Grill Combo. That dish was the bomb! It came with beef, grilled shrimp and egg rolls! Everything was good in that bowl. What really stood out was the shrimp & egg rolls. The shrimp was grilled nicely fresh with a hint of smokey taste. Pour a good amount of fish sauce onto it and you got yourself a bowl of goodness! I made the fish sauce rained on my vermacelli bowl and it was good! They recently went under renovation and they had fixed the bathroom doors, tiles, and some new paint whatnot. Before remodeling, you couldn't even close the lady's restroom all the way. It was not a safe place to go to unless if you're just washing your hands. In the dinning area, you'll see a big fish tank with only one lonely fish swimming around. That fish is huge and not the prettiest but I feel they should find him a mate. I was so sure they would find him one after remodeling the place but no, that poor thing is still alone all by himself. I recently got asked by some friends to go out for lunch. They weren't quite too sure where they wanted to eat lunch at until one guy mentioned Pho Hong Long. He said he always comes to this place on Tuesdays and that it was one of his favorite pho places. Not too sure what it was about Tuesdays but since it was Tuesday we ended up here. I guess my friend wasn't alone in his love for going here on Tuesdays, because the place was packed. We had to wait a few minutes before getting seated. As we were waiting, one of the first things I noticed were the flat screen tvs that they had in the restaurant. For such a small restaurant, it was interesting to see the flat screen tvs on the wall. When were seated, we were given our menus right away. They have several different pho soups for reasonable prices, You have your choice of a small or large bowl. They also offer vermicelli. I decided to get the well done beef brisket pho. As we were waiting for our orders, my friend ordered a thai iced tea. I was quite impressed when it came because there was boba in the thai iced tea and there was also whipped cream on the top. It looked really good and looked like something you would order from Starbucks or Coffee Bean. I think my friend saw that I was eyeing it because he ended up ordering one for me :). Much thanks to him because that thai iced tea was one delicious drink. As for my beef brisket pho, it was also pretty good as well. For a small, there was a fair share of noodles. Pho is really addicting here...a little too much. I suspect that they are heavy handed with the MSG for many reasons: the flavor, the addicting need to finish the whole bowl, the post-meal incessant yawns that cascaded, & eventually a K.O. headache that needed to be alleviated with ibuprofen & an early night's slumber. With ALL that said, I'd probably still go back...but I'd go back for their rice dishes and spring rolls. I'm also interested in trying their other dishes. They are generous with their portions too. A medium size pho (small to extra large portions) will sufficiently feed 2 people. Comfortable spot & all the condiments and utensils are already stationed at your table with the exception of napkins I believe. The best cure for a hangover... Pho!! This place was very easy to find and they open super early! Restaurant is quite spacious. My coworker and I both got a large Pho Dac Biet and a Vietnamese ice coffee. Perfect combo to get your day started right. None of had been here before; we were just looking for a well-rated pho place somewhere between Long Beach and West LA and this seemed to fit the bill. It's a pretty good-sized place and was clean. It was also all decked out in Christmas stuff and had a particularly annoying motion-sensored Santa that would boom out "Merry Christmas!" and "Ho Ho Ho!" every time someone moved anywhere near it. After about the 20th time we were totally over it, but then a baby started crying nearby and we traded one annoyance for another. Anyhoo, on to the food: We ordered their basic combo pho, and the small bowl was big enough for me, even though I was pretty hungry. It was good, but I can't say it blew me away. The produce, meat and noodles were all fresh and the broth had a good flavor--it was a perfectly good bowl of pho and hit the spot. The waiter helping us out had limited English but was very friendly and smiley, which is pretty unusual for a place like this, but then again looks like they cater to a largely non-Vietnamese clientele. But now we can temporarily satisfy our craving until our next visit to Orange County! I ordered the Chicken Pho and its great, good broth plenty of meat and noodles. The owner is always there. He is cool and always ask me how my kids are. I tell him I got no kids, He just laughs. I used to come here when I was little and this used to be my go-to Pho place in the South Bay. My parents were friends with the owners of this restaurant and growing up, my parents would casually catch up with them every time we stopped by their restaurant to eat. Now, we don't even bother coming to this place anymore. The problem with this Pho place is how overpriced their food is. $10 for a bowl? Jesus Christ. That's way too much. Plus, they put hella msg in their Pho so by the end of my meal, I would drink so much water to rid of it. A third problem is that they charge for their to-go containers! Like omg who does that? That is beyond ridiculous. If you decided to to-go your order in the first place, I know they will charge you extra for it. Seriously. Don't come here. Save yourself. Rating: 80/100 pts Incredible pho. In fact, some of the best I've had, and for as little as $7-8. The pho is topped with cilantro, and the plate of garnishes that comes with it includes a generous portion of bean sprouts, lemon/lime, jalapeño peppers, and Chinese basil, all VERY fresh. The broth is delicious: excellently balanced and not the slightest bit watery. I find myself drinking it to the last drop. The meat is plentiful, fairly thick, and very tender, effectively set part from lesser quality restaurants that serve mere scraps. Fresh, tasty, and very affordable. Definitely a worthy alternative for those of us that don't have the luxury of being close to the San Gabriel Valley (for slightly better pho--but I digress). This place used to be a lot better and the portion used to be a lot bigger. I was so disappointed when I came this time. I ordered rice dish the combo dish that is supposed to come with pork, shrimp and 2 egg rolls. When it came, the plate had more rice than meat. The meat were more like shreds of pork with 3 mini shrimps. I looked at the menu again to make sure that they served me the right item. The picture in the menu is a lot bigger. I should've taken a picture. The shrimp displayed on the menu occupied a quarter of the plate and it was butterflied. I was brought here once with a friend and over a year later I was finally invited back! This place was my first Pho experience and ever since I moved here I had always remembered it but never remembered its name or where it was at for that matter. This morning when my friend gave me a call and asked if I wanted to join, I couldn't have declined! The taste was already forming in my mouth and now it was only a matter of time before it was in my belly! We got in around noon on a Saturday and the place was quite busy. We sat down immediately and good thing we didn't get there 20minutes later because a line started to form outside! We both ordered the Taî Pho which was raw beef that was cooked in the hot broth. I also gave in to my weakness for thai tea and my friend got a glass of coconut juice/pulp which was AMAZING! The beef was tender and cooked well in the soup, the beansprouts were crunchy and moist and the noodles were near perfect and given in generous portions. Was in the mood for something hot on a cold fall night. Pho Hong Long popped in my head for some really tasty pho. This place in really never busy for dinner. The owner and staff there are so nice. We ordered the brisket pho with spring rolls. The spring rolls were nice and meaty. 3 medium sized shrimp lined the top of it. It matched perfectly with the peanut sauce with crushed peanuts in it. This is served cold and is very good. Pho came out shortly after. Hot soup with rice noodles and raw pieces of brisket in it. The boiling hot soup cooked the brisket perfectly. One of the better pho spots in Gardena! It's located in a plaza with lots of parking. Service was fast & efficient. We sat down and placed our order within about 5 minutes and got our food in about 10 mins! I got a small pho with rare steak & my boyfriend got pork with vermicelli. I was convinced this place was closed if it weren't for the Yelpers. So I go but I still find the sandwich place. Then I saw it. It's still here, fantastic. It replaced the old so so place pho restaurant that's been there for ages, I didn't know, I'm so out of touch. The sign definitely says Pho Hong Long! I walk in that direction, after a year of no Pho Hong Long I can't suppress the smile. Good: The beef pho didn't have a lot of grease on top like I remembered before they moved, but from reading Yelpers reviews they still come with grease on top so today was not the norm I take it. To my observation, this is a rich flavored version of pho with minimal oil on top. The soup is on the opaque side vs. clear. Taste is rich and flavorful without the addition of any Hoi Sin Sauce (no need to add to this soup, plenty good enough). Nice beef. Tender, tasty, thin (pho shabu anyone?). Bad: The soup was mildly hot and quickly turned luke warm shortly after (I didn't pour all the vegetables on top and still the temperature dropped quickly). The basil leaves. . . more like super basil leaves, were the stiffest I've seen. The leaves maintained a plastic like stiff body inside the soup, not pleasant to eat (stiffness could be due to the soup being just warm or that they actually were plastic, realistic looking these days plastic...no wonder no basil taste). Great tasting pho broth with large portions of meat. The Vermicelli bowl, likewise, had a large portion of tasty pork. In both dishes the noodles were a bit overdone (my reason for 3 instead of 4 stars). Egg rolls and spring rolls were both very good. The iced coffee and Thai iced tea were both just OK. This restaurant used to be a little hole-in-the-wall next to the Asian supermarket in the shopping center. (Now it is called Minh Phat but used to be called Win Wa, if I remember correctly.) I liked Pho Hong Long better when it was in the little place. (Now in that spot is a Viet sandwich place. The little place only had a handful of tables. Sometimes you had to wait for a spot. There was a long narrow hallway filled with the carts used to clear off tables boxes of supplies. I always wanted to go back and explore that area. The new larger location just doesn't have the same elbow-to-elbow, let-me-eat-in-peace feel. The food is the same. The pho is a little greasier than I like. (I'll bet they let the bones boil instead of simmer.) You can taste the ginger and star anise in their broth, which I really like. They will also give you cilantro on the plate of sprouts that you get at every pho place. This place gives the most meat of any of the pho restaurants that I frequent. My favorite has he raw meat, the cooked brisket, tripe and meatballs. If I get the combo with tendon, I'll take it out. They put in too much for my tastes. (The texture really grosses me out. As much as I'd like to think that deep inside me there is a little Vietnamese woman, I can't stomach that tendon in my food.) They do have fresh spring rolls. I like them, they are a little larger than some other places and have a fresh flavor on their own, though I still deep them in the peanut sauce. Their fried spring rolls are also tasty. They will serve those with a beautiful plate of herbs, leafed lettuce and pickled carrot. Service is limited to your food being brought to your table and your drinks. Don't expect anything else. Living close to this Pho place, i used to come here all the time. This place used to be the BOMB! But up until a year ago, their pho has changed. The quality of Pho here has diminished considerably. The flavor in the broth has been watered down and just not as tasty as before to the point where for $6.00/bowl, I am going to start looking elsewhere. Great place for Pho in the South Bay. I used to have a hard time differentiating between good pho and regular pho. I found out that it ws in the taste of the soup and noodle texture. The broth is very tasty and flavorful. And as an absolute noodle-lover, the noodles were very nice and soft, which is good for a soup-noodle dish(I like ramen soft, remember?). So yes, the pho here is definitely good. You can order your bowl of Pho in various sizes..from Small, Medium, Large to X-Large. The spring rolls are pretty big and good too. I know that we aren't going to get the best in the Southern CA area in the South Bay, but you know we live here so we want to find the best in this area. This pho place was stop #2 in the past week. I came here based on a recommendation from some friends that know their Vietnamese food - and I have to say I did not leave disappointed. Although I hear their pho is the best, I am a big fan of charbroiled port and since they could not add that to their pho instead of beef, I went with the vermicelli (#50 which comes with 2 egg rolls). The vermicelli dish was so good! I love fresh veggies and the dish had vermicelli sitting on a bed of lettuce with pickled carrots and daikon, along with cucumbers, topped with crushed peanuts and the pork. I can't wait to go back just thinking about it. The fish sauce was really good as well. The pork was also not too fatty and not over cooked or burned. Don't let the B rating scare you off. Good pho, close to the airport so after the trip you can head over and grab something quick to eat. Which is exactly what I did today. I have eaten here once before and wasn't impressed. But eating here today changed my mind a bit. Broth is brown when it comes out and is unfortunately served with american cilantro and not ngo gai, but the noodles are of decent quality and they do place the meat in a stack so it stays somewhat raw and chewy, that prevents me from having to order it on a separate plate. They gave me ample tendons and tripe so I can't complain too much. Good taste though somewhat pricey at a little over 6 for a large. I guess inflation is a bizz these days. Definitely worth a stop back by. It will have to do until I get back to San Jose. read more
