Feeling slightly homesick, we decided to end our trip with comfort food, and pho sounded great to both of our palates. Pho Hong Long is located in a little plaza that clearly doesn't get much foot traffic. We are used to seeing many Vietnamese patrons in a Vietnamese restaurant, but that wasn't the case here. Perhaps that was the first perplexing sign? The menu is simple enough without being too cluttered with too many items. In the end, we decided to get pho with rare strips of beef and pho with chicken. Surprisingly, it took quite some time for our food to arrive, unlike most Vietnamese restaurants where the food arrives in just a couple of minutes. The smell wafting from the both bowls was both comforting and delicious. However, the oily sheen of the broth in both of our bowls was a little off putting. The noodles were obviously not made in house and came from the vacuum-dried prepackaged bags. While the protein were sliced thinly and prepared well, the broth was a bit too flavorful, causing our mouths to dry out after a few slurps. In terms of pricing, it was more than reasonable for the portion size and the quality wasn't half bad. While Pho Hong Long made for a decent spot for a familiar bowl of noodles, it is not one of the best we've had. read more

3 stars. Why? Because it's minimum $20 to use credit card or a $1 fee will be added. Our bill was just shy of $20, I hand over my card and I get the receipt back. The amount is different to the bill. I was confused so I asked to see the bill again. I asked why it was different. The cashier points to this tiny sign behind us and over our head with the minimum credit card transaction fee. Gee. I told him the sign should be at the front of the counter within plain view of paying customers. Not behind us in tiny font. Also, it would've been courteous if he had said something prior to swiping my card, especially how the sign is not in too noticeable. I don't think its right to just "charge" a different amount than what was on the bill. He was nice enough to void the sale and we paid cash. But that was kind of pointless because the minute the card was swiped I'm sure the vendor charged them the transaction fee. Now I have to watch my bill to see if the pending charge falls off. There are 2 good places to get pho in the southbay, one being Saigon dish and the other being pho hong long. For a lighter broth go to Saigon dish and for deep beefy broth go to pho hong long. Depends on what you're into. Broth is unusually rich and thick, it's not consistent but on a good day this is my favorite place in the southbay. Beef portions here are very generous and they give you plenty to go with your noodles. Noodles, they have rice noodles and also an egg noodle option for $1 charge. Sides, they have fried egg rolls and spring rolls (not fried). Beverages, vietnamese iced coffee, various juice drinks, tea, and iced thai tea. The parking lot is shared with other businesses in the plaza and gets packed, there is additional parking behind the barber shop. read more

The bbq pork was not as tasty as I've had at other Vietnamese restaurants, and the pieces of pork varied in size with small bits and large pieces with a lot of fat. I'm giving this place a 4.5 stars! It's a geat restaurant on Crenshaw Blvd next to IHOP. They have almost 20 different types of pho dishes and about 20 types of rice dishes. I've tried many things here and I've never been dissapointed. My favorite thing about the restaurant is that it is good quantity for the money, and they use very quality items. They don't skimp one bit on the items! Pho Dac Biet: Combination Pho with well cooked flank, tripe, brisket, rare beef, and beef cartlidge. Served with fresh basil, lemon, and jalapeno. Grade: A for all the high quality items in the bowl. Nice cuts of meat, and plenty of it! Pho Tai: Pho with rare beef. Comes with a side of rare beef. The beef is high quality and cooks very nicely in the broth. Grade: A+ Egg Rolls: Average egg rolls served with fresh lettuce, and pickled turnip/carrots, & mint. The fish sauce is average. Grade: B. Iced / Hot Vietnamese Coffee: Average iced/hot coffee. Served with condensed milk (and tasted like a bit more of sugar). Grade B. Service: The people here are super nice! They are always friendly and willing to help with extra requests. They are very welcoming. p.s. They have a huge fish tank with a HUGE arrowana swimming around the tank. We were there when they had about 20 feeder goldfish in the tank for the arrowana to eat. Thank goodness it didn't eat a goldfish while the people in the restaurant were eating. Once upon a time, I came here with a friend. She invited me to try Vietnamese food. We came here, and henceforth my love for pho grew. Lunch time today, I was craving pho, so I decided to stop by here. It's been many years since I've been to this location, but the food here is still as great as I remember it. I ordered the rare beef pho, in size large. To drink, I had a glass of water and a much needed iced coffee. The pho came with a decent portion of beef, and tons of noodles. As usual, I put a lot of sriracha in it. The iced coffee with a touch of condensed milk was pretty good. Not too sweet, but the right balance of flavor. Customer service was on point. Pho Hong Long is now one of my favorite Pho joints. I've been here multiple times with friends and each time the Pho was great! First, they give you a choice of 4 sizes - there is a size for everyone. I usually go for the large and it is quite enough for me but in the event that I am super starving I still have the X-Large size to upgrade to! My friends usually go for the small; that size is also not insignificant. They also are not chintzy with the basil and bean sprouts either - there is always plenty to go around and then some! The pho broth is robust and rich with the flavors of all the spices and the meats that makes up this delish meal. Then by the inclusion of the perfectly cooked rice noodles, wow it really makes for a bowl of warm satisfy goodness that puts my stomach in a very comfortable and full place every time. Next time? This place was really good. Not as busy as most Pho restaurants mainly cause they look liked they're closed. Looking in its dark and their business sign is out. Their windows are also midway tinted. Prices are reasonable. There is a language barrier so order by number on the menu. Quality and quantity is above average. read more

This makes me incredibly sad to admit: I've never had exceptional pho. Heck, I've never even had good pho, and I wish I could, considering how much I already love all the generic stuff in Torrance. Pho Hong Long came with a recommendation from a Vietnamese friend, and I see why. Their broth is much thicker and richer than any others I've had, and they've clearly spent more time on it. I love my default Pho Tai Gan Sach, the #19. It has my beloved raw beef and my go-to mystery-meats, tendon and tripe. The hubby went for #22 Pho Tai Gau, keeping it simple with raw beef and fall-apart brisket. Well this is definitely a step in the right direction. TYPICAL DILL-PHO (3.25 stars) What strikes my interest to come here was the "small bowl". Usually people like bigger portions and such, I do too, but I also hate wasting food. And I been looking for pho places that serve different size pho because I hate the oversize bowls and 1/2 the pho would go to waste. The place is roomy, few occupied tables, staff cleaning and stocking table condiments. I ordered small pho tai (they have small, medium, or large) and a side of fried egg rolls. The small pho was indeed a small.. Perfect for me!!! Tasted typical... Slight difference in the broth they added DILL. That's a first for me, DILL in my pho soup broth. There was very slight notes of dill but I felt that dill made it less "authentic" and more "thanksgiving". The egg rolls, I literally could have done without. They were the regular air egg rolls and not imperial rolls. The taste and quality was nothing special - reminded me of a Chinese egg roll more than other type of egg roll out there. Best pho in Torrance/Gardena area! I have a go to spot in SGV but it's too much of a drive. When I crave for that tasty, heart-warming pho, I had to result to crappy not-so-satisfying pho in Torrance for the longest time until I discovered Pho Hong Long thanks to my mom! Pho Hong Long isn't the cleanest looking restaurant ever but that's like any other good hole-in-the-wall Asian restaurants. At first I didn't expect much from Pho Hong Long because I was thinking, "It's Southbay pho. It's going to be bland and mediocre like always" But after my first sip of the soup, I was convinced there are good pho restaurants in Southbay after all! Soup is good, noodles are good, and even the meat is good! The only down side to Pho Hong Long is that they charged me for extra raw sliced onions. I usually get my onions as freebies at other restaurant so that was a downer but I'll definitely visit again when I'm craving good pho in the southbay. :) read more

The ambiance is a little run down but the service is good. "Popular restaurant or Hole in the wall joint?" Well it was a Friday afternoon and my friend and I felt a little adventurous. Pho Hong Long did not disappoint. My local pho place has decent pho but does not serve tripe. We both got the small #19 with Tripe, Raw Beef, and Tendon. Flavor/Texture 5/5 Outstanding broth! The local pho place I go to does not even compare. I know now that tripe is delicious!! I didn't eat the raw beef fast enough (thin slices cooked really quickly), and on a personal level I would probably NOT get the Tendon next time (straight beef fat). Absolutely delicious filling bowl of hot steamy pho. Price 5/5 $6.50 for the small, and it was a perfect size (well I am a small Asian girl)! Most Pho places do not have a small size, so I really appreciated this. Service 3/5 Came out in about 10 minutes (the local pho place I go to is Saigon Bistro and it comes out in half the time).
