Found this place close to our hotel, a small "hole in the wall" restaurant with great service. The ladies who take care of the shop are wonderful & gave us suggestions on food as well as which hot sauce to use for which dish. We came in less than an hour before they closed, but they still provided excellent & fast service. Our waitress, who I believe might be one of the shop owners, gave us the mochi dessert on the house. The owners are probably the sweetest and most friendly people I have ever encountered in a restaurant. I would definitely come back next time I visit honolulu :) read more

Such kind people and great service!! I had the oxtail pho ($12.50) and shrimp rolls ($6.50) and it was soo much food but delicious! Oxtail pho broth was on the lighter side which I loved bc sometimes I feel like that can get a bit oily / heavy but it wasn't like that at all. Shrimp rolls were possibly some of the best I've had. Super fresh, they're literally made to order. I came at an off time (4pm) and they let me eat in but technically I think it's still takeout only. Opted for the chicken pho and it was delivered with noodles and broth separated, additional bag of bean sprouts and basil leaves etc. Our hotel had given us real dishware so it was a treat to actually combine everything and eat proper at our table. Pho Kapahulu is a small but great estalishment. I usually order takeout and ordered their spring roll plate very impressed with the vegetables, noodles and spring rolls were fabulous. Ahhhhhhh I really wanted to like this place because it's close and I love love pho but alas, there are bugs there so I can't come back :( The Good: -super nice, friendly service -reasonable prices -they take credit cards -chicken pho had nice pieces of meat, not too fatty, not too dry -Spring rolls are delicious and it's a big portion The Not So Great: -no parking -Pho soup flavor was just ok. Not so flavorful -there are bugs in the restaurant! The food here was actually really good. The spot is unassuming in a shopping strip near Safeway. The prices were pretty decent for the area. Would 100% come here again. Parking: I parked in Safeway's lot and walked over Other reviews rave about the broth, but I think it's okay. The shrimp roll only had 1 shrimp cut in half for each roll, but I understand because Pho Kapahulu's prices are lower than other places. Heavily considered docking a star from this place but the food was far too good T_T Let me explain: Upon entering in the early morning, we were greeted by a cute lil lady and she gave us water immediately. The water tasted horrible LOL like I'm ok with tap water but this tasted like straight up dirt. I later read other reviews and it seems like this is common. I noticed you could buy bottled water so maybe this was a business ploy LOL I was extremely unhappy because of that until the food arrived. However, I was still frustrated that I had no edible water to wash it down. However, when the main entrees came out, we were blown away. The pho was delicious... Usually I could care less, to me pho is all usually pretty similar. But this one... it was really light and refreshing, yet the flavor was still there. The broth was on point, probs among the best pho I've ever had in my life!!! Food taste, service, and value 5 stars! We enjoyed their green papaya salad, sautéed lemon grass chicken, chicken curry with vermicelli noodles, black bean beef over rice, and oxtail soup with noodles. Taste 5 stars. The oxtail soup was very tasty but portion size a little small. It's good to try it but for the price better to order something else. Pho Kapahulu won't disappoint. I literally pass this restaurant almost everyday on Kapahulu and never have once dined here. My sister said she's eaten here and that they have good pho so we decided to eat here for lunch with her boyfriend. The only downside to this restaurant is the parking situation but we managed and I'm so happy we came. It's a nice and cozy restaurant with tables set up for parties of 2 or 4. There are several tables inside and the ladies here are super friendly. You can dine in or take out and they do accept major credit cards. I got my eye on their lemongrass chicken banh mi but we ordered their pho and it was a lot better than I expected it to be. It came with generous portions of veggies and they were able to steam the bean sprouts for us. Too bad they don't have culantro. Entering the restaurant, I can smell the wonderful aroma of the pho broth, I couldn't wait to dig in to our bowls of pho. Cute small mom & pop restaurant with about 7 small tables. Keep in mind that this is a very small shop. I love the green décor, which is my favorite color! Here are my reasons why I am a fan of Pho Kapahulu: 1.) very reasonable prices, pho @ 8.95. 2.) the spring rolls are available, by the piece,1.20. I like this idea, everyone can order the amount they would like to eat. prices per roll are cheap. They have shrimp roll, Vietnamese roll, local rolls, vegetarian, & banana. 3.) cheap tapioca dessert for 2.00 4.) Pho came out piping HOT. 5.) no charge for having half meatballs and half chicken ( other restaurants will charge) 6.) they have chicken meatballs 7.) love that the water is flavored with lemon 8.) love the satay sauce 9.) I like finding new pho places to eat because there's a lot in Hawaii and being able to find really good ones are fun! Especially when they're affordable and have a lot of other options besides pho and it's still good. They're apparently known for oxtail soup so I got that and now I know why they're known for it! One of the reasons why I like it is because it's affordable for oxtail soup. Many places I have been is $15+ and to sub if for different noodles or adding rice is $1-$2 more. But this place, you can choose rice or pho and it's the same price. I also had the tofu bahn mi which was flavorful and filling! This was also under $10? Maybe under 8 I forgot but being that price and it's fresh and the bread is crispy is nice because many bahn mi that's tofu isn't that flavorful and packed with garnishes. The lady inside was very nice and the food came out maybe 10mins after we ordered? Which is fast to me, because I'm sure there was only 1 other lady in the kitchen. Till this day I don't understand why don't they spell the way they pronounce it like Pha instead of Pho??? You say tomatoes I say tomatoes... or was it how I spell tomatoes... oh never mind. My fiance and I love coming here when it is cold or when we feel a little under the weather. A nice hot bowl of pho does the body good. The noodles are the traditional type you find at other places but their broth is always made fresh. They have the hoisin as well as sriracha out on the table. They also have some hidden gems in the fridge, you just have to ask for the paste and they will bring it out for you. I do have to warn you that you may want to try just a little as they do have a kick if you're not used to it. Besides pho (#15, 19, 22, and #25) I have tried their spring rolls, crispy fried egg noodles #33 and their BBQ Boneless Chicken #53 and they are all winners. The staff is very friendly and humble. Always there to give us more water, napkins, etc. If you can't find street parking you can park in the lot behind Pizza Hut. read more

This is a tough review because there are positives as well as a few negatives. Overall, I don't think you will go wrong coming here if you are in the neighborhood and craving pho. First of all, the service is extremely friendly, attentive, and very prompt which is consistent with the reviews posted. They will also give you complimentary toast and jello. The broth has a light beefy flavor, not very oily, pretty close to Golden River in Chinatown. The veggies are very fresh and of high quality, you can use everything they provide. On the down side, there is only size pho for $8.99 and it's wasn't enough for me and my wife, they should offer a larger size for maybe a dollar more. Where's the beef? My pho only came with a handful of beef. Note the heavy use of msg as I was extremely thirsty afterwards. Parking is a challenge and beware if you are taking the advice of some reviewers to park at Safeway, they are security guards on duty. Parking in the neighborhoods or on Date Street is a better bet. read more

The nice thing about this place is that it is opened till 10pm instead of 9pm like most pho places. The people working here are so sweet. It feels like grandma taking care of you. The older lady that worked out front was adorable. The ambiance was what you kinda expect from a family owned viet restaurant. They were showing "finding dory" so that was cool. The pho broth was good. I think it had some nice flavors, it had a clean taste to it, and nothing was too overpowering. The part I didn't enjoy that much were the noodles.
