I too am an Asian and I'm a 20% or more tipper every time I go but the service quality has changed compared to when the older owner was there, the service was excellent and the food quality was excellent too but now everything seems to be going downhill!! I've been coming here since it opened and even before when it was Carrow's that was open 24/7. The owners son is an ass-hat who accused me of ordering a wrong item from the menu and said that they didn't serve Vietnamese coffee which is right there in the menu and was plainly visible at other Vietnamese customers tables! I ordered S-8 and salad rolls with no peanuts in the sauce, and Vietnamese coffee. They brought out a Super Bowl Pho at first and I said it wasn't mine, and the waiter immediately took it over to another customers table. They brought out S - 7 instead and again said that's not mine, the waitress took it back and brought it back saying that is what I ordered! She placed the noodle soup and walked off into the kitchen! Than they brought me a mocha in a paper cup??? I said I ordered a Vietnamese coffee and not a mocha in a paper cup, she takes it back and she brings back another paper cup filled with regular coffee, I thought What the fu_k is going on here? I thought I was on some weird hidden camera kind of thing, I got up without eating or drinking anything and was about to walk out since I didn't eat anything or drank anything which I ordered, the owner's son says "SIR!" You need to pay! I said - pay for what? I didn't get what I ordered and now your wanting me to pay for your mistakes? Our favorite pho family also owns pho hung on 82nd and on Powell. Love this location and the food here. It's a more modern and updated interior and they have no trouble filling tables here. Ample parking, quick service and the owners and staff here are like family. I'm particular on my Viet food and I love the authenticity of it here. The veggies are always crunchy and fresh. For some reason, the pho here makes me run to the restroom mid eating. I'd probably give this place a 3 if I had to factor in the pho here. Maybe it's the amount of MSG they use or how oily the broth is but either way, I can't eat the pho here so the four stars are solely for my chosen dishes here. Bun mang vit: if my parents like it, then I know it's good. And it definitely has never disappointed me. I love everything about this dish, the bamboo shoots, the type of noodles it uses, the flavor of the broth, and what I like to call the side duck salad. The duck is always so tender and the salad comes with a ginger fish sauce which compliments it sooo well! Banh beo: this is the first place I've found this dish in Portland. It's pretty authentic although the texture is a little off than what I'm use to but nonetheless it's still a great dish. You're suppose to eat each dish within one bite and each bite hits you with a flavor burst of salty, sweet, spicy (if you add hot sauce), and a soft, crunchy texture. Although it can be eaten as a main dish, it's also a great appetizer to start off with if you're with a group. The service has always been great for me, but my family frequents this place often so that could also be why. Arrived 9:30am on a weekday and the rainy weather definitely prompted us to go for some pho! Immediately seated and given menus, order taken and the menu is easy to read. We got 3 of the special bowl and a different pho order (P2), some drinks as well. Portions are good and ordering extra noodles is the way to go! The broth was flavorful and well seasoned. This is my go-to place for pho. I come here most often than any other pho spot in Portland, mainly because of their service and convenience. The food always comes out fast and in large portions. They're very good about coming to your table and getting your order in as fast as possible, and there's always people checking in to see if you need more water. We came on Labor Day, and that day they were short staff in the kitchen, so the wait was longer. Not a huge deal, because the food was well worth. The pho broth is really rich and not too salty, which is great because I like adding a bunch of red pepper flake and hoisin to my soup. The noodle to broth ratio is great, and the amount of veggies they give you on the side is just right. You can also ask for pickled onions on the side for even more flavor. The vermicelli noodle bowls are also massive. I recommend getting the bowls with shrimp. The shrimp is nicely cooked and charred, and ties up the whole dish. Lastly, get the avocado shake! There are many pho locations to choose from SE Portland, but this is my favorite. I always get the same bowl of pho (Pho Kim Special) or Grilled Pork Chops, Shrimp & Rice (item C0 on menu). This location has a variety of Vietnamese dishes you can choose from, but the first two I mentioned are my favorites. This location is relatively large so both parking and seating has never been a problem for me (even on the weekends). Their staff are friendly, quick, and diligent about taking my order and delivering my food. Since their kitchen is always on the move, food takes about approximately 6-7 minutes to come out. I'd definitely recommend this location to anyone who has never had pho before. You'd be really happy with the food and service here. The newest Viet kid on the block, has finally arrived on 82nd. There isn't a much better grand opening deal in their 2 for 1 bowls of pho, brought to you by the very same people who own the photastic institution of Pho Hung. Broth judges might not rate this pho highly, but for everything they've managed to accomplish so far, Pho Kim might stand to be a popular player in the Viet scene. From a renovation standpoint, they've done a pretty excellent job. Every table has a beautiful finish, the entire interior is brightened by natural light, and the layout is perfect for groups and couples of all kinds. The bathrooms are clean, though the sink is oddly placed publicly near the rear entrance. Parking is extremely solid and the service is as bustling as one can expect. I"m not sure if the pho is better than other nearby spots, or even Pho Hung itself, but for an initial $3+ from the grand opening it tastes pretty solid. Even cuts of beef in my tai nam bowl, along with a nice floaty bed of rice noodles, in a pungent but steamy broth that most pho lovers can appreciate. The bowls are a bit on the pricier side from $7.75-$8.95 size wise, but this seems to be a common thing in Portland at this point. Even when the hooplah ends and the hype dies down, I can see myself being a regular of this place. They're conveniently located right off of 82nd & Division and seem to be offering a solid array of Viet dishes. When I get a better tasting of the rest of their menu I'll know better, but the pho is golf clap worthy for now. 4 stars it is Pho Kim. read more

I ordered the com suong tom rice plate (add an egg) and was a bit disappointed. Meat was bland, not marinated to expectation. Fish sauce didn't help too much.. I'm an avid banh beo lover but was also disappointed with it. Maybe it's the best in Portland but I've had so much better.. even in Seattle. I can only compare these to the ones you buy at the vietnamese deli's that are pre-packaged, because they are literally that small but weren't the best tasting. Service here is pretty much non-existent. Even speaking vietnamese, I felt like we had to wave them down and yell loudly for every little thing because that's how busy they are. I was looking for a late night pho place and seems like they all close at 9pm, pho kim was one of the few opened until 10pm. When i entered there were quite a few Vietnamese families eating here, so i thought it must be pretty authentic. I liked the pho and the broth was good. The meat quality was very good and they give quite a bit of meat. This is probably my second favorite. My favorite pho broth is still pho hung and favorite meat quality in a bowl of pho is still pho oregon. The egg rolls were good, but i still prefer the ones at pho hung. Same as the avocado shake as well. The one thing that they make thats delicious that i don't find at many other pho places is their hu tieu. I bought a to go of this to bring home to eat and it was still delicious. Overall, this is a very good restaurant and i wish there was an option to give it 4.5stars. Very good food! read more

The bowl of soup noodles on one side and a plate of steamed duck on the other. The duck, ever so tender and moist. Served with nc mm for dipping. Im not a duck guy myself but it was pretty tasty to say the least. I on the other hand am more of a seafood guy and ordered Bùn Riêu which is a bowl of soft vermicelli noodles with crab mix and and tomatoes. That broth is so good that I almost wanted to finish it with a bowl of rice. But that would be inappropriate because i need to make room for dessert. Generous bowl of pho with a hearty, beefy, rich broth not overwhelmed by star anise or cinnamon and an equally generous amount of meat. I ordered the tai, chin, nam (eye of round steak, well-done brisket, well-done flank) and after adding a bit of plum sauce had a perfect bowl on a sunny late-October day.
