There's only two places I enjoy going to get pho in LA Korea town. And this is one of them ! Little small hole in the wall restaurant, and khmer owners ! There's only one lady working the front so it can be a bit slow sometimes but it is understandable. So if it's busy and you don't have any patience this is just a heads up. I went on a rainy weekend and there was a wait, the place isnt small but there's isnt a lot a tables inside. I was there early in the morning but when I tried to order some things on the menu they said they were sold out or wasn't available. I ended up just getting their noodles. The broth was very good but the portion was very small. The service was as expected for any Asian place, not really courteous, it's the kind of place where they ask what you want right when you sit. The noodles took awhile to come out after ordering which surprised me because usually the broth is premade and they just have to boil the noodle and assemble. Very delicious. Wish it had more noodles but it was very good and I basically inhaled it. My friends got the Beef Mee-ka-tang which was so flavorful as well and lotta greens! Great Cambodian food! Used to eat here as a kid when my dad worked at the plaza, but only appreciated it a lot more recently as friends remind me how good it is! Happy to bring more friends to try as it is one of the few long-standing mom and pop shops. Came on a busy day. We were a group of 6 and first in line as all tables were taken up. Took about 20 minutes to be seated, with plenty of seating outside the quiet plaza to wait. I got the beef lok lak with fried rice and influenced most of our group to get it, too! It came with soup on the side and was under $15. Everyone who tried it raved either about the beef or the fried rice. While there are barely any reviews in general about New Kamara, the restaurant is pretty popular mostly loyal old timers, and neighborhood folks. A wait during lunch hour and weekends are to be expected. There seems to be only one server taking care of the whole dining area, so patience helps! She's kind and efficient. The Combination Noodles are what I went with since it's their specialty. It's porkcentric and consist of: pork meatballs, boiled pork, ground pork, shrimp, fish balls and slices of offal. Soup comes on the side or added to the bowl. This bowl of noodles is incredibly WELL made and DELICIOUS! The soup broth profile has a hint of sweetness from rock sugar, aromatics, and bones boiled for hours. The pan fried chives cake is a must. Great meal! The restaurant is straight up hidden (good luck finding it if you never been here) location in a quite plaza mostly with vacant units, medical offices, herbal shop. Just look for the "Chinatown Library Branch" at the end of Hill St and across the way on the Hill St., is the location of this mom n pop hole-in-wall. One of the last Cambodian noodle spots in LA. I'm so happy to have came and tried the food. The Cook is a refugee from Cambodia from the 1970-1980s who's taken Khmer culture to America and started making Kathiew ( Cambodian noodles) the authenticity that you get will be unmatched. Tucked away in a small plaza in the back of Chinatown, is this AMAZING mom and pop restaurant. I went searching for some noodles nearby and I'm so glad I found this place! Finding places with dry noodles with a side of bone marrow soup is quite rare in the Bay Area and this restaurant was only a 5 min walk away from my friends place in Chinatown. We came for lunch on a Friday afternoon - it wasn't busy at all but as time passed a bit more, the restaurant was fully packed! Food - I ordered 1A (combination rice noodle soup - dry). The noodles were perfect when mixed and the soup was more on the sweet side, but the contrast of noodles to soup was a perfect sweet and savory! I was in love with every bite and not to mention the delicious bone marrow that had extra meat for me to enjoy. I also looked around me to see what everyone else was ordering and noticed that they were ordering pretty much everything else on the menu such as stir fry noodles and rice! I even saw a man order the bone marrow soup to accompany his rice - SO SMART!! I'll probably be doing that next time. New Khemara is definitely a repeat for me when I go back to Chinatown. However, the wait time was a bit long. We had to wait 35 minutes after ordering to get 2 bowls of noodles and a side of leek pancakes. What! What a great hidden place that's super low key for hu Tieu types of noodles. The dried noodles were so tasty and healthy. There's this spot I love going for noodles nearby but they don't deliver. It's always a mission to get out there for us on the weekdays so the moment we realized Door Dash added this restaurant we were beaming with joy. I appreciate having access to places like this where you can order hu tieu or similar Cambodian dry noodle type dishes. My only gripe is that a lot of these places use the lowest quality and least freshest ingredients for their meats and toppings. I have nothing bad to say about the broth and how they flavor their dishes but gosh darn.. they really letting it slide on freshness. The herbs and limes are always on their last legs that we usually just toss them. It's really hard to find an authentic hole in the wall type Asian restaurant that can get this part right. I have only ordered from them twice but I always finish my meals with this icky feeling and usually just eat the noodles and drink a little bit of the broth so I don't get to enjoy the full experience. It's a decent alternative if you can't get legit pho delivered though. I find that some Cambodian food I eat at restaurants have underdeveloped depth and often rely on sugar for flavor. Not here! Admittedly, my pork bone was a bit wimpy, but extremely tender. The fry leek cakes were molten hot. Burn your mouth or wait until it cools down? Burn your mouth, of course! The accompanying dip looked insipid but was a well-seasoned fish sauce that made for a good pairing. I liked adding chili sauce to it. Free garage parking! Such a hidden gem in Chinatown! A must try for cheap and delicious food. I ordered the combination egg noodle- dry and it was perfect with the sauce in the noodles and the side of soup. Next up was PORK INTESTINE NOODLE SOUP They ran out of pork blood for the day. The pork intestines came on a separate dish and were suuuuuper crispy, good with the chili oil because they're a little bland on their own but the soup that came with the noodles is no joke.
