I like this place a lot for pho! The pho is always good and I especially like that they let me do pho with no meat and don't charge me for the meat anyways like a lot of other places do. Loved this place so much, i've now had more than one bad experience here in the last few months. Not long ago I went and found a to-go lid in the bottom of my pho, another time I told my waitress i didn't like my boba and if it was possible to get another flavor she told me no and i said that was fine and i understood and still was given another boba that i was charged for and didn't ask for because she told me i could not do that to which i agreed. After this we proceeded to have to fight to get a boba off the bill i didn't even order. Lastly I ordered last night a pick up pho and got it at 8:30, got home and sat down to eat to find that the pho had a filmy taste to it that seemed old to which i had to put it down the drain. Today i called about this and they proceed to tell me that i should've brought it back to them if there was an issue when they were already closed at 9, they then told me that even though i was telling them this that the man next door to them had pho and had no complaints although that has no effect on the pho that i was given. This place has terrible customer service and they fight with the customer when they are in the wrong. I do not recommend coming here... read more

Food is decent, but my biggest compliant is the staff is often absent minded and uncommunicative. So, I have been looking forward to trying out the Pho at this place since it is in my neighborhood. Because today was especially cold, about 46 at 1:30, I thought this is the right time to go check out Pho La. I'm glad I made it there for a late lunch! The place is nice, sparse furnishings but clean. Kinda humble feel to it. There were several people there but it was rather quiet. The waitress was really nice and quickly took my order, chicken pho. My soup came out hot- the noodles and broth looked fresh. The chicken was tender, not over cooked which I have had happen in the past. Not fun. Another person came over with plenty of fresh parsley, lemon, sliced jalapeños and bean sprouts. I really enjoyed my pho! The broth was good- tasty but not too salty or overwhelming. Good job! This was my 2nd visit to this restaurant. The food was hot, fresh and was good but not great. I've yet to find great Chinese cuisine in S.A. and I've lived here my whole life. Anyway, would l eat here again? Yes, l would. l didnt like that the only condiment on the table was hoisin sauce. No hot mustard, plum sauce, hot oil or soy sauce. Of course they bring it to you if you ask but why not just keep it on the table? Make things easier for everyone. The wait staff all seemed to be unhappy and interaction with patrons was minimal. Tried this place out, but didn't have Pho. I had Chinese food which was not even average. Rice was bad. My wife wasn't thrilled about the Pho either. She stated it was average at best. The wait staff is slow as well. Many people ask when they were going to get their food. Looked like only two waitresses were working. I personally would never go back. read more

Pretty solid. I ordered the pork, shrimp and rice dish with a Vietnamese spring roll on side. Definitely better than a few recent Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. The food came out quickly and was very tastefully seasoned. Good. Not the best but definitely would order again. About 1/4 of the work had hard gristle pieces so I'm taking a star off for that. Service was prompt but I was the only person in here on arrival. Shortly after five tables filled up. I saw the waitress getting flustered and forgetting things. Overall good experience. read more

To be fair to Pho La whenever I find pad Thai I try it and I compare it to the best I've had in San Antonio so far (Thai cafe). So in comparison this was good. Was this my favorite? No it sadly wasn't. Would I return to this place? Yes to give them a chance to redeem themselves with perhaps Vietnamese soup or another Thai meal. This particular pad Thai was missing that mouth drooling let's awaken every taste bud on my tongue savory taste. It was not something to go crazy over. A mom and pop Viet restaurant on the east side of town. It's probably the best Phò I've had since I lived in Arcadia, California, and surprisingly their Chinese food is pretty good too. Overall not a bad place to eat. The quality of food will not blow you away but if you want to satiate the need for Vietnamese then come here. My theory is when these Asian restaurants try to blend multiple cuisines to suit American tastes, their quality rapidly wanes. It's not surprising that places like these are well rated in San Antonio since I'm quickly learning that the palate is not sophisticated around here They have wonderful service and reasonable food at reasonable prices. My wife and I had the rice vermicelli dishes, which I've had better outside San Antonio. They met the standard for the minimums that reasonable rice vermicelli dishes should have. The fish sauce was a bit bland, and for the first time I actually reached for the hoisin sauce. Nothing to write home about. I would recommend that they focus on one cuisine and make it really excellent but they'd probably go out of business. Again not the restaurateur's fault. read more

I went in today and asked the waitress if she recommended the beef or chicken pho and she gave me attitude... this should've been a red flag but I over looked it and thought maybe I just took it the way. I summed it up to me just over thinking it. Ordered the chicken pho to go and when I got home I was quite displeased. The food was good here but the atmosphere was really off. The day I went in there was a man who kept looking at everyone weird and saying things that didn't even make sense. He would also walk to the back of the kitchen and no one was telling him anything. They were just letting him do whatever he wanted. I thought he worked there but when I asked one of the waitress she didn't even know who he was. He then went outside and started jumping on one of the cars. I think he was not all there in his head but he was being really disruptive and someone should have asked him to kindly leave or just to calm down. I think they were scared of him but he finally left after a while. The place was also way too small for the amount of clientele they get. They only had about 8-10 tables and because of that we had to wait almost 30 minutes to be seated, but we waited and it didn't take too long to get our food. I also didn't like that there was no music in there. It was way too quiet. I gave it four stars because the food was good but I'm not sure if I would be back. I have been here one other time and got their chicken on a stick and some pho. It was great that time so we decided to go back. We got their pad Thai and lemongrass vermicelli. Very disappointed. The pad Thai had no flavor. I had to stir fry it on my own and added some fish sauce and soy to somehow bring it to life. Super yummy pho! This was my first time trying this place since it was down the street from my house. I got the chicken pho (add tofu) super delicious and definitely filled me up. My husband and I tried this place tonight. We were seated immediately, right before a number of other tables walked in. The waiter took our order.... and then we waited...... and waited..... and waited.... and watched all the other tables that came in after us get appetizers (which we'd also ordered), main dishes, drink refills, etc. It took me four tries to get someone's attention, just to get our drinks refilled (while we were still waiting on food... any food... please?) My husband's pad thai came out about 20 minutes before my dish, after we'd been waiting almost an hour. By the time mine arrived I just asked for a to-go box. We never got the appetizer we'd ordered. As we were walking out, the waiter said it was ready (but he'd also told me that it would be right out 45 minutes prior to this and by this point we just weren't feeling it). As to the food itself: The pad thai was nothing to write home about. Pretty bland, slightly on the sweet side. We also got the lemongrass chicken vermicelli noodle bowl. This was good and I'd recommend ordering it. I'd been wanting Vietnamese, and the lemongrass hit the spot once we got home. I enjoyed everything I had and I'd recommend this place to others. I'd like to come back and try one of the Chinese dishes perhaps. Ordered steak pho for take out. The broth was great, most of the ingredients were fresh and good, but the steak was already pre-cooked instead of raw. This meant that the soup overall did not have the full flavor quality it potentially could have had from the steak actually "cooking" in it. On a day trip from Austin, we happened upon this place while in search of a decent Mexican restaurant that was open. No such luck! I lt being the day after Christmas, I understand. Thankfully on our last attempt, Pho La was right next door. I threw caution to the wind, and didn't even look at the Yelp reviews before we ordered. I selected the Lemongrass Chicken with noodles. Wow! So good! Chicken cooked just right, and all of the vegetables were very fresh. My son ordered the VN Spring Rolls, which is their meat option for the roll. He loved them, and actually kept trying to eat them even though he said he was already full! I didn't ask what kind of meat...oops. This is my kind of place. It's a tiny little hole in the wall with great tasting food. I had the #36 bûn with shrimp, pork, and fried spring roll. They provided yummy fish sauce and plenty of veggies to go with the grilled meats. Quick, cheap, and tasty food served with a smile. They have horrible taste in television. I've never had Pho before so I decided to give it a try! Pho la is clean, the service is fast, and the food was amazing! I got the steak pho, chicken on a stick, fried dumplings, and crab Rangoon. All of it was delicious! My daughter didn't like the beef and broccoli, the meat lacked any flavor, but my husband enjoyed the king pao chicken, and my vegetarian daughter loved her vegetable egg noodles. Everything was so fresh and hot! The iced tea was perfect. The chicken on a stick was the best I've ever had. My Pho was huge and has the perfect amount of noodles and meat.
