Worst service ever. We arrived and they told us to sit down. Someone came over and dropped menus on our table without even greeting us or saying hello. They brought us water and never once came back to refill them. After the food was brought to us no one checked to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. I had to get up and find someone to ask for more water and a to go container and they told me to wait. I'll never be back here which is a shame because the food was good. read more

This place is my go-to whenever I'm craving Pho. I live in the neighborhood across the street, so always order take out, and it's usually ready in 5 minutes (10 if it's a busy night). Pho Ga is my favorite: the broth is always flavorful without being salty, while the chicken is rarely ever dry. I usually ask for extra noodles, which is a small upcharge of 75 cents, but you get TONs of noodles this way. I've also had the rice noodle soup with shrimp, which was OK. I think they might use veggie broth for this one, that is a little bland in comparison to the Pho Ga. Last time I ordered this, the shrimp were not very well deveined, so I had to clean out most of them myself. No big deal, the soup still was tasty, but just something to note. My husband (who is not a pho fan) likes getting their chicken friend rice (which is well-seasoned and full of chicken and other bits), and the egg rolls which are meaty and satisfying. Overall, I love this place! It's good food at a good value, and close by so I'm always happy to support this local business. This is a good local pho place if you're looking for some Vietnamese comfort food. The owner is very friendly and the restaurant itself is very clean. They offer 2 sizes (medium and large) of pho, as well as other rice plates and appetizer options. They only have a few vegetarian options, but their veggie broth is very good and the way they cook the tofu is the best around! My only complaint is sometimes the noodles in the pho aren't fantastic (sticking together, too tough, fall apart). Most of the time they're fine though. They also have delicious boba drinks (in fact the best in town--which is saying a lot considering San Jose is littered with them!) Overall, check this place out! read more

I have tried a number of dishes here such as the pork chop and broken rice combo ... Pho and the fried rice. The food is decent for south sj Vietnamese food but isn't on par with San Jose's standards. The real reason I only gave one star is the service. I eat at a lot of Vietnamese places in east sj so I know what to expect as far as overall service. I don't expect to be checked on at all and bringing money to the register is almost a guarantee ... But this place just has bad people working there. The first night I came here to eat service was meh... Frankly, we've never had a great Pho restaurant here in the Blossom Valley area of San Jose. If I wanted a good bowl of Pho, I'd have to drive 15-20 minutes to get to the East San Jose or Edenvale areas of the city, where Vietnamese establishments are quite abundant. As such, I was quite excited when I heard that a new Pho restaurant was opening up here in the Santa Teresa Square shopping center near my home. On 10/6/13, Pho LA had its Grand Opening and I took the long 2-minute drive from my house to try it out. The first thing I noticed is that the menu is quite a bit larger than one that you'd find at a typical "Pho House". There are plenty of rice and noodle dishes that I have yet to try, but my first priority was to have a bowl of the Pho! I tried the #1 special which contains rare beef, well-done brisket, fat brisket, tendon, and tripe. There may be some other stuff in there as well, but sometimes it's just better NOT to know what's in there. (I mean, I used to enjoy hot dogs and sausages a lot more before I actually watched them being made.) As far as my order was concerned, the broth was tasty, the portion size was decent and the food came out pretty fast. And really, if you're eating at a Pho restaurant, that's pretty much all that matters, right? Sure, I could complain about the fresh rolls being a little rubbery or the fried spring rolls (cha gio) tasting more like lumpia, but overall, I had a good dining experience and I'll surely be back to try a few other things on the menu. read more

The decor was harmonious along with the light classical guitar playing in the background. The focus of green in the restaurant is easy on the eyes. The service was prompt. I really wanted to like this place, since we like to shop at the Nob Hill in the same center. Can't really recommend it though. My husband and I both got vermicilli noodle bowls, a favorite of ours. We also ordered a small lotus root and shrimp salad, which we took to-go, since that was a LOT of food. The bad: The chicken in my dish was in huge hunks, with all of the greasy skin and fat attached - ugh. The rice vinegar sauce with both dishes was too sweet for my taste - much sweeter than anything that we've had at other restaurants. Any shot at ambiance was ruined by the fact that a commercial radio station was being played through the sound system - how hard is it to put together a couple of playlists for your customers? And, I didn't find it either attractive or very clean. The good: Generous servings. The pork in my husband's dish was significantly leaner than my yucky chicken. One of the staff noticed me struggling to remove the copious amounts of fat from my dinner and brought me a steak knife, which really helped. (Would have preferred to have eaten with chopsticks, but I wasn't about to gobble up all that fat.) With so many other restaurants to choose from, I doubt that we'll be back. read more

It was my first time here with my friend who highly recommended this place. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our waitress was very ecstatic and happy. I ordered pho dac biet bo vien. Let me tell you, the portions are very big! The pho tasted very light unlike some places where you can taste the MSG. I just recently had a bad day which left me feeling very hollow and empty, but after eating the pho, I definitely felt full and warm on the inside. I'm sure I'll be coming back here again. We've been to this restaurant a few times. It's pretty good. It smells sooo good when you walk in. It's looks clean when you walk in. The staff is nice. Food arrives at a decent amout of time. I ordered the #28 Garlic Prawns and it is DELISH. #24 Egg rolls----DELISH. Our friend ordered the #44 She said it was really good. It looked good. My lady ordered the # 29. Everything looked delish. The pho here is mediocre, honestly not sure why there are so many good reviews. Pho is such a staple in San Jose that your pho needs to stand out. They do not offer "gau" which is fatty brisket. I ordered a Medium Pho Tai Gan Bo Vien but they didn't offer much meat except for tai. I was fairly disappointed and won't be back. read more

Hard to find a good place in the south side area of San Jose for pho. But I can say that will no longer be a problem. This place is local and in a good area and very clean. Big plus for me. I received the worst service at this restaurant. First off, they got our orders wrong. We ordered spring rolls with shrimp and received the vegetarian spring rolls. The waiters then realized it was someone else's order and brought us the spring rolls with shrimp. We also got charged twice for both of the spring rolls because of THEIR mistake. We then ordered pho and the girl that was the server got the order wrong so instead of number 5 they brought out number 6 and the owner was trying to make it seem like we ordered number 6 and they didn't make a mistake. The spring rolls were super dry with no taste or flavor at all. The workers at the store are creepy as they were just starring at you eat instead of providing some good costumer service. I am a fan of this place. First off, it is so close to the house and we are in serious need of a good Pho place down here so I am very excited they took over this location. The restaurant is pretty large, lots of tables, and is very clean. The menu is equally large - a few too many options for me. I like to keep it simple. I have ordered the same thing both times, beef Pho with rare flank, brisket, and tendon. The first time, the tendon was not tender enough, but the second time it was perfect. I imagine they will get continuously better as they work out all their kinks. Spring rolls were also good - very fresh. The service was good, not something you always get at Pho places so that is refreshing. If they continue this way, I will definitely be a regular. read more

Pros: The portion size was great! Their large is larger than most restaurants, but smaller than Pho Tau Bay. The broth was decent; not the most flavorful compared to Beef Noodle #1 or Pho 54, but definitely not the worst. (I'd still return) Everything looked fresh and clean including the veggies. I told the cashier that one of the bowl sizes we got was wrong and she happily and without hesitation; corrected this error and charged us for one medium rather than two larges. Cons: DO NOT order their spring rolls unless you want to spend a grip and make your mouth cold. $5 gets you a SINGLE spring roll that they cut into two pieces. They also refrigerate it because they were almost as cold as ice. (made it taste very bland) The server we got did not appear to know the menu and was not very good at his job. I tried to make it easier on him by ordering in Vietnamese, but he still needed to check the menu to verify every item. My coworker ordered a medium size and when both bowls came out, they appeared to be the same size. I asked the waiter if there was a mistake and that my coworker ordered a medium. He said my coworker's bowl was indeed a medium, but we later found out he wrote down large on the order. Despite our server lacking experience; I would give this place a 3.5 if I could. I wouldn't consider this place anywhere near East Side San Jose quality, but I'd return for sure. FYI: $10 dollar minimum for credit/debit transactions. read more

My family goes here almost weekly. It's our favorite neighborhood and go-to pho and rice plate place when we don't want to trek to east San Jose. The pho broth is flavorful with loads of meats. The rice plates are plenty. We like their combo plates with the grilled chicken or pork with grilled shrimps and side of eggs. They don't skimp out. Each combo plate has a lot of meats and shrimp and two eggs instead of one. Service is quick and friendly. Place and (ladies') bathroom are clean. (I've never been to the men's room to comment. ha!) This is probably the best pho restaurant in the deep south of San Jose. Their hours are reasonable, the pho good, and the space is setup nicely. There are better pho places if you want to drive 20 minutes to the east side, but this place is good enough where I don't feel I need to make that trip. I've only had their pho, so I can't speak on their rice plates or vermicelli bowls so keep that in mind if you're looking for those. The noodles hold up well and don't break part after a while in the broth. They give a good amount of meat in the number 2. Glad I found out about this place, it's one of the best Pho places I've been to in awhile - eaten here twice in the past few weeks. Pho and vermicelli bowl were delicious, fresh and very flavorful (especially the broth). We also tried the garlic shrimp appetizer - SO good. They were fried light and crispy with a good amount of garlic (but not too much) and veggies. What I like most about this place is the service. I'm one of those annoying people who modifies my order (often adding or omitting a particular item). I tried... I tried really hard to see for myself, even with bad reviews. I want to be fair, so we here we go... I walked in and was immediately greeted, not by a person, but a familiar smell. It was a smell I couldn't quite place for a few moments. Once the host came to seat me it occurred to me what the smell was. They were burning incense, which by itself there is nothing wrong. The familiarity of it was the fact that it was the same incense smell from when I was in a Chinese electronics factory restroom and they were trying to cover up the fact that people smoked in there. The menu was your typical looking Pho menu, so I was excited to see how it was. I ordered a large Special, a spring roll appetizer, and water. The water arrived first. It had a small slice of lemon and tasted fine. It was, however, all the water I would get. None was ever offered to me again. Next was the spring rolls. In the picture it showed two long spring rolls with shrimp inside. When I got them these were two long ones cut each in half. Two of the pieces contained shrimp as expected. The other two had the tan colored lunch meat and no shrimp. The peanut sauce for them was okay. And then here comes my large Special. The bowl was the right size, but wasn't even close to being filled all the way. The noodles were stuck together in the middle of the bowl. The meat was not savory at all. The broth was not very flavorful. I was quite disappointed. Perhaps I am spoiled by my co-workers taking the time to bring me to Capitol Expressway to experience better Pho, and perhaps the people running this place probably thought a nerdy white guy wouldn't notice the difference. I don't know. I was going to order a Vietnamese coffee, but I don't want to be awake for so long that this experience continues to repeat itself over and over in my mind for hours. read more

Whenever I feel like pho I come here, the staff is super nice and the food is also good. Prices are good as well. My 5 year old son loves this place! Horrible service. Would give it zero stars If I could. First off, the food looks and is pretty decent. I was in the mood for pho today and thats once every year. I did not read the reviews but I should have. I was found paying more than the sticker price. Okay, maybe they just changed prices recently. I ignored this and was fine with it. What really moved me to write a review and I only have done one so far was the overall nasty and unwelcoming attitude of the worker. He was very rude and my order was not at all picky or difficult to make. Not how I thought I would be spending my Friday night but I feel the need to stay awake and warn others about the rude worker.
