After moving from SF to the East Bay, my husband and I have been on the search for a pho restaurant for the past two years. Well, the search has come to an end because we found our new favorite gem. When my water cup empty I ask a waiter refill. She walked to my table and said yes. So she walked back to counter .She hold her phone share phone screen with another waiter the two waiters ladies keep talking and taking . Laughing and laughing the phone . She did not move at all standing the counter .they were so enjoyed them phone.I was waiting and waiting till I call her again. She bring the water. Called in to order, the lady on the phone did not have much patience, hung up on me the first time and handed the phone to someone else in the middle of my order the second time. Ordered the banh mi thit nuong it was extremely disappointing. The sandwich is inconsistent from the last time I ordered.... I've never had a Vietnamese sandwich drenched in butter like this. It was dripping out of the sandwich made me feel queasy. Luckily they skimped on the pate and I was able to scrape off the little bit they put on, otherwise the sandwich would've been way way wayyyy too buttery. Great, fast service. I came in about half an hour before closing and typically I expect food to not be the best since I understand the workers may be busting their butts to close shop after working all day, but in this case I was wrong because this is probably one of the best pho bowls I've got in the tri valley since moving out here in 2022 from the East/South Bay where pho is abundant and plentiful in almost every city. The restaurant is small, but decor is welcoming and clean. I was seated immediately. The water they serve has a great lemon essence to it. The broth is rich, the steak is tender, and everything is very flavorful. I had just completed a hike up Mission Peak and was extra hungry, but with 15 minutes left to closing they did not hesitate to accommodate my request for a heaping serving off rare steak on the side. In my haste I did not squeeze lemon on the steak and just yeeted it into my broth. I wasn't about to eat red red raw steak like that and I requested for them to heat up my bowl again. There was no hassle nor hesitation to fulfill my request. I have never had Pennywort drink before and damn it was bussssss, next time I wanna try the sugarcane with Pennywort. Love the atmosphere. They work so hard. I enjoyed the pho. Meat was tender (they are usually dry/overcooked in other Vietnamese restaurants) which told me that they used good quality of meat. I was born and raised in Hanoi - I have pho in my blood and this is hands down the best pho place in the East Bay. The restaurant is small but clean, minimalist but stylish and the staff/owner are friendly and provide great service on top of the great foods. Every bowl of pho on the menu is great. My go to order is No 1 and when I'm in the mood to splurge, I add some oxtail on top. This is now my go to place for pho when I need a bowl of comfort goodness hot soup. The soup is tasty, but the portion is relatively small for the price of $16.5 for a bowl of Pho Tai. The Pho Tai's meat quality was really good for the first two times I tried, but the third time it wasn't as fresh and juicy like the prior times. Free flow of lightly sweeten kumquat drink. Fast service. Small interior, hard to eat if your party is more than 4 people or has little kids (no space for stroller). Sugar cane drink is fresh but has ~70% ice. This used to be a Chinese restaurant that now is Viet. Had both the pho and banh mi in same sitting along with ice milk coffee. First the pho. The soup is not quite authentic as there is a sweetness to the base. This throws you off if you are used to traditional pho soup. Proportions are good, but doesn't matter how much they give you if it doesn't taste quite right. The banh mi seems to be on point. I consulted my Viet friend and while I'm used to a mayo based banh mi, butter is actually authentic and that's how they serve it here. The roll is crunchy on the outside and the inside is soft and chewy. The cafe su da is okay. No one seems to do the traditional drip method any more as it takes too long. I think it was a bit too much condensed milk, but the coffee was strong. These drink are getting too expensive for the amount restaurants serve. Seating is limited as it was a small footprint to begin with. Parking can be hard if you go during peak hours as it's in the Ulfert Center. Unlikely to return as the pho doesn't taste right to me. read more

They were terrible! Food was good all kudos to the chef, but the servers were awful! As they took my order, they were being rude, and as we walked in they looked at us and didn't say anything! I had asked for normal water and they rolled their eyes at me as they went back to grab it! Plus while i was waiting to get my bill they stood their on their phones! i'm went back twice and tried the sugar cane juice again and both times sadly they already started to water the juice down and it isn't as good as the first time i had it when they just opened. i hope they don't start lowering their quality of their food so fast after opening. lots of pho restaurants here that are not great in the area - if they really want to stand out they need it keep it up. i hope they will improve back to when they first open when things are more fresh. read more

I was excited about trying this place but was really disappointed and never coming back. First, the food was bad. I ordered the sliced filet mignon on a sizzling plate with rice. I got the plate and it barely sizzled. They served me my order with a baguette and when I told them I ordered it with rice, the server Phi( young lady) told me I had to have it with the baguette because they only had 1 more order of order rice and gave me no heads up or other options so I was stuck with something I didn't want. It's my first time to have something just warm and dripping wet meat on a sizzling plate and it didn't taste good. You're basically eating a deconstructed Banh mi except it's not good. Second, service was not good. We saw tables who were just seated before us having their drinks already and one with their food coming and still no one to get our order. We ordered our food and drinks hoping they would come already, as we observed 3 tables having their drinks while waiting for food ( we only ordered Diet Coke and coco cane). They just served us water on paper cups and one plastic cup with lid . I requested to have more cups of water with lids instead because we had 2 kids with us and didn't wanna spill. Guess what, our server again answered us very rudely and said, they only had one cup with lid left. This place was small and not kid friendly if you need your child on a high chair. There are places where service was not the best but still you were given options, and food was actually good and worth coming back for, this one ain't it. read more
