Is my first time coming here and my last time coming here I show up the Sunset open. There was a few people still eating. I was told that they were only suffering food to go when I see clearly bringing out food to people that were sitting on the table obviously, they're not gonna finish your food in 1015 minutes so I was told that I can't sit down and eat at the restaurant so much for a customer service. It'll be the last time coming here or referring people to come here they obviously don't know what customer service means customers are the ones that pay the bills. Came by and was refused service even though it was well before the posted closing time. Feels like the manager just wants to close early instead of running the store properly. It's our first time trying this newish pho place in Fremont, and we were pretty impressed. The inside is nice and new, and their menu has a good variety of pho, grilled meats, appetizers, and desserts. We didn't try their pho this time, but will definitely be back for that. What we ordered: + Papaya shrimp salad - we really enjoyed this refreshing salad with plenty of dressing. It was a bit heavy on garlic for my own personal preference but hubby loved it. + Garlic noodle lemongrass chicken - the chicken was seasoned well and tasty, but there wasn't enough chicken compared to the large portion of garlic noodles. The garlic noodles themselves were disappointing. They were spaghetti noodles with just a hint of garlic and pretty dry. + Wonton shrimp noodles - you get your choice of noodles (I chose egg) and choice of broth (I chose chicken). I really enjoyed the broth and there was plenty of noodles. There's about 3 shrimps, which were good. The wontons were good but they didn't hold together. I found balls of meat filling and empty wonton wrapper floating around. + Egg rolls - this is a standard that we always get with Vietnamese food. It is good, and they give you 6 of them. Decided to pay Pho Mama a visit a day after opening! The interior is a bit small, with lots of two-tops and a couple tables for groups, but they definitely make the space work! One thing that I noticed is there wasn't the usual condiments + utensils on the tables & since we were sat at a two-top there was limited table space and as all of our food started to come out, the table became very cramped. I had to ask the server to come and remove plates as we were eating as it was a little uncomfortable to eat with all the dishes piled on our table. The food itself was very fresh and clean tasting! My partner got the number 5 and enjoyed the saltiness & taste of the broth but wished that there could have been a larger size + didn't really enjoy that the filet mignon was cut up almost like ground beef. I thought that the broken rice riceplate was pretty tasty & clean however, the portion for the price felt a little small. We also got the salted coffee which tasted as though it came unsweetened, but it was quite strong. Overall, the food was pretty good! I would definitely say that this is a pricier pho place & would have liked bigger portions, but other that no real complaints! The service was also great! My husband and I go to Pho Mama like once every two weeks. We used to go so much to a point where the workers knows us and knows our order. We always get the summer rolls but with peanut sauce instead of the special sauce. I would always get either the filet mignon with meat balls pho, the bun bo hue, their vermicelli noodles with short ribs and everytime it is delicious! My husband would get the short ribs plate and sugarcane drink. Always so delicious, only thing is I tried their bun rieu and it's not the typical bun rieu. Yum! We went to this new pho restaurant and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is modern and clean. We ordered the beef short rib pho that had a large meaty rib. Even though it's hot out, the restaurant is nice and cool, so having hot noodles was not a problem. We also got their spicy beef noodle soup (bun bo hue). That was really good and flavorful. We had a party of 7 for luncheon today as appreciation to our instructor offering us a series of lessons. I was recommended by our teacher whose family enjoyed eating here. They offered pretty good service here and the presentation of food, ie #1 beef noodle soup, #58 & # 65 rice plates were all beautifully presented with yummy taste. With all of the recent Bay Area rain gone, we were really in the mood for some Pho. First time visiting this place, it's located inside a pretty crowded strip mall. We came here around 1pm, and parking was pretty scarce. When we arrived, the restaurant was still not too busy, however, by the time we left, every table had already been taken. My wife ordered the beef pho combo. There was a good variety of meats. The amount was decent, but wished there was more. The broth was pretty good, definitely more herbs than others I've had -4/5 I ordered the crab noodle soup. I was pretty disappointed with this one. The soup was pretty bland. I've had Pho Mama's Vietnamese coffee with salted cream a few times (highly recommend btw, strong coffee without tasting burnt), but this is the first time I've sat down to have a meal. I went at 5:30pm on a weekday and was surprised to see 75% of the restaurant was full! Staff were nice. The place is clean--the lights were a bit dim and warm which made it feel inviting. We ordered a broken rice (com tam) dish and pho. The com tam was delicious! The meat was so smoky and the eggroll is taro-filled which is my favorite!! Not sure why this place has such good reviews, probably because it's in the middle of Fremont and a convenient place to go to. But that's about it. The pho is bland. There's too much broth in the bowl to make it seem like a large portion, but they're very skimpy on the meat. And the broth is not flavorful at all. You can barely smell the cinnamon/star anise and it tastes like dirty water, no beef/bone flavor at all. The rare meat is well cooked so it's very tough and definitely not from filet mignon. Probably some cheap cut and that's why it's not tender. I came back a second time after hearing all the rave reviews from everyone around me, hoping that I would get a better broth this time. But it tasted just as bland and the meat was very underwhelming both in tenderness and portion. I will not be coming back. Also the menu is not in Vietnamese... so I guess this place is not catered to Vietnamese people at all and that's why the broth tastes like what it tastes. If you're Vietnamese you'll know this is nowhere near what real pho should taste like. Better go to San Jose if you really want to see what pho is really about. read more

We wanted Pho and found this place through Yelp. It's located near Washington Hospital in Fremont. We came on a Saturday and found parking to be hard. They occupy a place where there are a lot of establishments around the area. After driving around the complex, we were able to park and walk a short distance to the place. Pho Mama is a Vietnamese restaurant that offers Pho, Vermicelli, and rice plates. The place is clean. We were seated right away and placed our order. We had the Spicy beef noodle soup and the House special vermicelli. The service was fast as we got our order within 10 minutes. The Pho was delicious. The beef broth is hot and spicy. The beef was tender The noodles were spaghetti size and soft. I like the seasoning that was included in this bowl. The Vermicelli was delicious. I found out that the owner also owns the store in Union City. This is a good place to enjoy a Pho soup on a cold day. I've heard good things about Pho Mama. I decided to try them today for lunch. I wanted brisket pho and I got it to go. The pho soup is very good, I loved the flavor of the broth, the brisket was very tender, overall great taste. I was disappointed with how much meat comes in the order because I usually spend less at other pho restaurants and get more meat. I'm hoping to give this restaurant another chance and see if maybe there portion is better next time. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and welcoming. Well established and proven Pho Mama from Union City just opened up another spot in a busy retail area in Fremont. And because it is an expansion store, they definitely are trying to upgrade it in both ambiance and food. The place is much more stylish than the Union City one, where it looks like a basic pho shop. This one has more black tones from walls to tables to even their bowls and plateware. I can't remember what they took over in this spot, but they did a decent job at transforming the space to their intention. Spring Roll ($8ish/3.5*) Basic spring roll with sliced shrimps, noodles and sliced pork, but I wasn't loving the combinations. First instead of a basic sliced roast pork, they use slices of their 'bbq'd' pork so it is marinated in that sweet soy, so it made it strong tasting, which takes away from the shrimp IMO. Then there were huge chunks of cucumbers, which I'd be open to, but these were in large proportion, where to me the bites were mostly cucumbers and marinated pork. Also mint was listed on the menu but I didn't get any, which I think would have helped the balance of the roll. I didn't hate the roll but I think it could be a tad better. Filet Mignon and Tendon Pho ($17/3.5*) So this is one of my go-to orders if I visit a pho place initially. I usually get the sliced beef on the side so I can dip the slices into the hot broth controlling rareness in the bites. But upon receiving the order, they put that beef INTO the broth and just put in a separate bowl, so I had 2 bowls of soup. Never had I seen this ever, not even in their Union City location. Not sure if they're new but it could be because they use what seems like hand cut filet meat that it is not in uniform slices but rather random strips. So maybe they don't want to put it on a plate raw as it won't look as good as sliced beef from a slicer. That's kinda my guess, but either way, I wouldn't order this again here, if it keeps coming out like this. Now the broth was good and solid. The tendons were totally fine being in nice sized tender chunks. The noodles were a bit disproportionate as there seemed like there were a ton of noodles. I couldn't eat it all, and that's kinda rare. Seafood Fried Rice ($18/3*) Got this for take-out for future meals and to see how it was. Just meh to me. Shrimps were nice but the other seafood was some squid pieces, halved fish balls and imitation crab. Now I don't mind those processed seafood items from time to time, usually in soup, but to put them in 'seafood' fried rice, just kind of gives off skimping vibes to me. I wouldn't get this again. Beef Rib Pho ($21/4*) The owner told me that this is how they were trying to 'up' the former menu by including this and using filet mignon meat for their pho. This is definitely an elevated pho. Super tender rib meat just falling off the bone. Broth super beefy, maybe a tad salty but the individual sips were impressive. I guess my only gripe was that the rib bone I got was more bone than meat. But it was done really well. And for some reason when I got this bowl, I didn't get the usual condiment of lime, sprouts and basil. First time ever at Viet restaurant where this was overlooked. I was perplexed a bit, so I asked and just seemed like they forgot. But since it was the first time this has ever happened and I've eaten hundreds of bowls of pho, it just seemed like a glaring miscue. I've tried their Iced Vietnamese Coffee and their Lemon Soda and both are legit. Both are over $7 so a meal and a drink here will always exceed the $20 mark. This is a new restaurant with it's original location in Union City. I was happy to see a new spot in this shopping center. It's near the hospital which is nice for those of us who work here in the area and those who are visiting loved ones and want options other than the cafeteria food (not that it's bad)! Trendy and hip ;) my husband is getting a procedure tomorrow and has to do a clear liquid diet so he got one chicken and beef broth.
