Chicken pho, spring rolls and meatball pho
    Cristina A.

Such a good experience! The server was super chill & quick to fill our waters & take our orders, he was playing some great music too & the place has such nice decor Definitely a bit more pricey than your quick pho spot - but It was some of the best pho we've had. It came out piping hot, the meat for the chicken pho and the meatball pho was so tender. We also got the spring rolls and veggie rolls and they were both very fresh and delicious. The broth .... I drank every drop despite being so full cause it was that good Will definitely be back!

Open since November 2024, Pho Nom has a clever name and a petite & bustling dining area. We had a 6:30pm reservation and we were seated a little before 6:30 at a deuce in the middle of the dining room. We ordered the egg rolls, chicken pho & pho nom. I also got a Vietnamese Egg Coffee. Yum! The egg rolls came out quickly. They were hot and crunchy but somewhat light in flavor. The pho nom came out next. It's quite a huge dish and the bones really take up a lot of room. Broth was added about 5 minutes after the bowl was delivered. The meat was really challenging to remove from the bones as well. There was no place to put the bones once the meat was removed, so they went on the table which was a little gross. My chicken pho was delivered about five minutes after the pho nom. Both dishes were generously sized & flavorful. The broth on my chicken pho was so good - fragrant and delicious! Our dogs she's also cane with a full plate of basil, limes, bean sprouts, jalapeños, fish sauce & chili oil paste. M. finished his entire bowl & I ate most of mine but I had to take some of the broth home. You can get unlimited (free) refills of broth as well! Jaison & Zidane did a good job taking care of the whole dining room on a busy Wednesday night. They were better about seating people, taking meal orders, & turning tables over then they were about checking on customers once they had their food & cashing customers out, but to their credit, they were doing everything except cooking! I really think it would have helped them if the restaurant had an additional busser or a host who could also help to bus & turn over tables. There is one customer bathroom. Lots of parking in the shared parking lot, but it is a tight squeeze & always busy. You also have to pay to park in that lot now. Street parking is free if you can find it. Peace.

Tried to call to order to go yesterday, phone lines were not working so I went in person & waited during my lunch but it took awhile since they had their lunch rush. I did tell cashier phone lines weren't working Broken rice was so good I was craving it again Next day, I tried calling to order & phone lines are down. So I called Formosa & placed an order with employee there. Picked up my food & asked for water Drank all the water & there's a buggy inside Food is good Service with phone lines being down, bug in drink

I've had this place bookmarked for a while and when my girlfriends asked me where to go, I chose this place which is known for its Instagram worthy surroundings. My friend said that the restaurant reminded her of some of the Vietnamese coffee shops in Vietnam. I loved the flowers and lanterns hanging from the ceiling. At 530pm, no one was there and we had parking! We ordered the following: Green Thai Iced Tea - It tasted like Thai Iced tea but not as sweet, which was good for me. The egg rolls were perfectly fried and had were hot when they arrived. The tamarind wings were sticky and sweet. A lot of batter and it was just okay for me. Finally, we got the Pho Nom. I don't know why my friend said I should get this because it was massive! It had two large beef ribs, sliced short rib, sliced brisket, & beef balls with noodles and veggies. This also had an egg which was in an interesting shape. Kind of like a cake or something. The broth was poured table side but it wasn't super hot. You can ask for more broth. Since there was so much food, we took the rest to go. The bag had all of their restaurants listed in the back with cute characters representing each one. We then realized that they have fridge magnets at each location! Of course we got one. Super cute. Cute place but menu isn't very extensive. They only had one dessert on the menu. I did like that they had cocktails but I decided to pass this time.

This place is not just a vibe, the food here is fire! Every dish was delicious! The pho here is really good. They use high quality meats thinly cut to cook when they pour the broth in. I think the beef rib could've been cooked a little longer. It wasn't fall off the bone ribs. The broth is savory. I don't like it when it has too much star anise or sweet so this was perfect. The clay pot keeps the pho warm. Pork chop rice was good. Came with pork, broken rice, egg, meatloaf, and pickled veggies. The pork was a little dry. I really liked the meatloaf. You can't go wrong with egg rolls. It was chicken and veggies. Crunchy with a sweet chili sauce. Gotta wash it down with the Pandan coconut drink. It was really refreshing and hydrating. Will definitely be back!

Excellent food and service provided by Karen and Linda today!! You ladies rock. Even on a very busy and extremely hot day like today, they manage to keep up their professionalism and friendly smiles... PHO here is AMAZING!!! And the BONUS? Unlimited broth... SHORT RIB PHO AND MEATBALLS: 10/10 The meat was so TENDER. The broth was delicious!!! EGGROLLS: 8/10 surprisingly came after we finished our PHO. It was piping HOT though... PANDAN COCONUT DRINK: 7/10 I never saw BLUE Pandan before? It should be green and it tasted more like bubble gum. I would pass on this drink... AMBIANCE: 10/10 Beautiful decor on the ceiling. There were flowers and lamps everywhere. Very nice vibe... HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

My first time here and I came with fellow board members after our meeting. Most order the pho but I had the BROKEN RICE: grilled marinated pork topped w/ scallion oil, egg meatloaf, fried egg, cucumbers, pickled radish & carrots, nuoc cham. The egg meatloaf was interesting. I don't think I'm a fan of broken rice but overall it was a good dish with plenty of food. I thought it was interesting that they served the pho dishes without the soup broth. Once the bowls were served, they poured the broth into the bowls. I don't think I heard anyone complain. The restaurant was filled and I sae only one server, but he did a good job being attentive and waiting on all the tables. It was a pretty small restaurant with the Thursday night dinner rush.

Excellent we liked it first time here but worth the wait. Thanks again we will come again.

Server: Danny. He was very friendly , kind and patient with us, especially since we had a lot of questions before ordering. First things first, if you're looking for vermicelli noodles, they no longer serve them here. That was a little disappointing because I love that dish, and it looked so good in the pictures from previous Yelpers' posts. Their broth was very savory. I enjoyed it. I added the herbs and they poured in the broth for us. I do wish their broth was hotter though but that's a personal preference because I like hot soup. Their homemade sate was interesting in their bowl. A good interesting. It gave it an extra kick. Did not have to put my usual hoisin and Sriracha sauce. I got the meatball + short rib, and my husband got the Pho Nom. The ambience is so beautiful in there. Flowers all over the ceiling. I also got a lychee lemonade and it was so good. Parking: Atrocious. Their pho is on the pricier side, but I recommend it. The quality makes it worth it.

short rib (boneless) pho wasn't too
    Ashlee L.

Delicious and portion size is also sooo good! The short rib (boneless) in the pho wasn't too fatty but still tender, and I really liked the flavor of the broth. I also liked the noodle texture and how they had cilantro! The hainan chicken was very tender and soft. I love ginger scallion sauce with chicken! The spring rolls were alright. The noodles inside them were kinda thick, so it was heavy and the whole thing deconstructed really easily so it was difficult to eat. Overall, a really solid spot!

    Joyce L.

Wow! Quite the flavorful pho. They're generous with their broth & meat portions, and the rare short rib slices were delectable (cooked by the hot broth)! 10/10 recommend. Con: parking in Convoy sucks.

Leyna our servicer checked on us a few times and was very sweet. Danny was also very kind when he first took our order. Viet coffee- yummy! I really like the flavor. The egg foam makes the coffee very smooth and the coffee isn't too overpowering (I don't feel like I'll have a heart attack) but still packs a lot of flavor. I got the chicken pho and the portion was HUGE. Chicken was tender and the most chicken I've had in a pho. Only thing is I wish the broth was a little more flavorful buuuut honestly still good.

    Andrea N.

Really good pho and drinks! Broth was flavorful, ratios were good, and I love that it comes with sa te and a generous amount of juicy limes! They give a lot of broth and I love that the pho came in a wide shallow bowl, it made mixing and accessing everything easy! I also got the pandan coconut drink and the egg coffee - both delicious and refreshing with a bowl of pho!

The place was crowded with the lunch crowd but there were tables available. No reservation necessary. No waiting lines out of the door. We were seated immediately. The ambiance is of a relaxing dining room where you can actually enjoy conversations without being rushed. It's a nice place to meet with friends and family to catch up over delicious and reasonably priced food. I had well-done steak pho, and my friend had steak vermicelli. We ordered vegetable spring rolls to share one each. Everything was delicious. The well-done steak in the pho was not overcooked. The pho had so much meat, and the condiments were fresh. The soup tasted great with deep garlic tastes although it was salty so I did not really drink it. The service was prompt and attentive. They came to refill our water a few times. We need to go to the cashier and pay. It's in a small mall in Kearney Mesa, so the lunch time parking is tough, but expect that, it's an excellent place.

Unfortunately, over the years, I feel like the quality has really declined. The rice has been cold and hard, the egg rolls just aren't the same anymore, and some of the food doesn't seem as fresh as it used to. It's disappointing because this used to be one of our go-to family spots. We don't come nearly as often anymore, but every once in a while we'll give it another try hoping things have improved. Unfortunately, we've been disappointed more often than not lately. I really hope they're able to bring back the quality they had when they first opened because we genuinely loved this place. Parking was always easy since it's in a big plaza, but with Easy Does It opening, the plaza seems to be super packed lately too.

Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

The squid was also not edible at all, we could barely chew or bite through it. The chicken was really overcooked and fried so much that the meat was super dry and fibrous. And it's not just this one time. We've noticed the same thing when we've eaten here in person too. The cơm tấm dishes always seem to have an off smell and the rice has been hard and cold. They had personalized menus that greeted my party and it wished my friends a happy birthday!! They actually got to take the menus home! This was really a nice touch, I appreciated the details. We family-styled everything which is honestly the way to go so everybody can try a little of everything! It was majority of our party's first time dining there. We started off with some drinks, I got the Non-alcoholic Guava Mocktail and I got to try what was the equivalent to an espresso martini too. Definitely liked the guava drink better because it tasted like guava nectar juice (kind of like Kerns or Jumex). The Expresso Martini had fresh mint in it and it tasted earthy which wasn't my cup of tea. For food we started off with the Heirloom Tomato Salad which was DELICIOUS!! I don't know what they put in the Vietnamese Green Goddess (probably fish sauce since all the dishes basically had this) but it was magnificent and one of my favorite dishes of the night. Then the Scallops and the Black Cod came out. The Scallops came in a set of 3 and we cut them in half so we could all have a taste. The sauce on this was DIVINE!!! It was citrusy but still really flavorful bursting with umami. I'm literally starting to drool reminiscing about it xD We wanted to keep it to use on other dishes because it was so good. The Black Cod was also delicious. It had fried skin attached and a sesame soy glaze. Next up came the Beef Tartare and the Wagyu Steak. The Beef Tartare was probably the least flavorful out of everything we ordered, but it was still well seasoned. My friend said it was really spicy but it might have just been her bite because I didn't think it was spicy at all. I like that the give you the option of leafy greens or shrimp chips to eat it with. The Wagyu though, was an all-star dish. It was the crowd favorite for sure, we all enjoyed not only the steak but the picked baby eggplants that come with it, and the sauce was phenomenal!! Lastly came the Dry Aged Duck which is what they're known for. It was definitely the biggest fish out of all. You were able to eat the duck with two different sauces, one they called a "Fish Sauce Chimichurri" and "Vietnamese XO sauce" which is more so satay. My friends liked the XO sauce but I liked the Chimichurri better. They had actually forgotten about the side of Buttered Rice but I was told it was incredibly flavorful on its own so we still asked for it. It had more than just butter in it, there was dried shrimp and sesame seeds, and it was made with coconut milk or something because it had a sweet but savory taste to it. I saved some of my duck and Wagyu to eat with it which was actually pretty good. Overall I liked that they brought out the dishes from lightest to heaviest and especially after they brought out out 2 sides of Buttered Rice we were all satisfied and full. It was the perfect amount of food. Honestly EVERY dish was different but amazingly dank and I think it's the fish sauce in everything. They were also sweet and kept the cake we brought in the fridge, placed the candles on it for us, and even after we sang they cut the cake for us!! 10/10 would recommend coming here for not only the food but the impeccable service!! Since we had a larger party there's an automatic 20% gratuity already added to the bill, which came out to be $555! (Look at that angel number!)

We came here during Restaurant Week which was probably our first mistake. For $75, it just wasn't…read moreenough food. Looking at pictures from other nights, most of our food was half the size or missing some major component. For example, the egg noodles had only a few very thin truffle shavings compared to what I saw online. They also lacked the real truffle flavor. The chocolate dessert was half of its normal size. Overall, everything is extremely overpriced and lacks flavor. The food was so bland across the board and it felt like we were being skimped out not on just the size but the flavor too. We eat a lot of Asian food and the taste wasn't even close to matching our expectations. All the workers were very friendly, but the food came out very slow. They also gave us a printed out menu for our anniversary with our last name on it which was spelled wrong. I don't care about that, just thought it was very funny. The restaurant was smaller than we expected, but we did enjoy the colors, the layout and the overall ambiance. Wouldn't go back!
