What a gem in San Diego! We were greeted and asked kindly to wait "7 minutes" for our server. We asked for a booth as we were tired from our day and was accommodated. We enjoyed the pho tai and the special canh cua (sour soup) with ca kho to (braised catfish) with a bowl of rice. It was a delicious meal that I was shocked to see on the menu in SD. This is a meal you would have in a Vietnamese home cooked dinner. The catfish came in a sizzling bowl. It was perfect. My boys loved the fish (they're not fish lovers at all). We also ordered a soda lemonade which was perfect. The restaurant was large, spacious, clean. Service was excellent. Prices were reasonable. Happy campers!

I came here for the first time on a Friday night for dinner. I was seated right away. It wasn't that busy. I started with egg rolls and they were very good. They came out scorching hot. My pho came out shortly after. It was very hot as well I wish it had more meat in it. I was very full after this meal. Service could've been better. I had to hunt someone down to get more water. I'd come back though.

Overall good experience here. They have a large indoor dining section, which would be good to accommodate larger parties. Staff at the front was fast to greet you and have you seated. I ordered a thai tea, which wasn't overly sweet and paired perfectly with the ambiance! The egg rolls were perfectly crispy and came out hot. My only complaint is I ordered the rare steak with my pho and it was completely cooked by the time it was brought to me (I know that happens sometimes). The broth was flavorful with a good salt level, will come back if I am in the area.

They just celebrated their first anniversary and let me tell you be prepared when you park because the delicious smell gets you once you jump out of the car. Definitely worth a visit in the Point Loma area! Our crispy egg rolls came quickly and so did our main entree. Delicious sauce for both. The waiter was fast and friendly keeping our glasses of water full.

    7/2026- grilled chicken banh mi

Looking for banh mi sandwiches I found this restaurant. It was a large establishment and clean. Ordering over the phone was easy as they had 3 options where I ordered two separate occasions for chicken banh mi, pork banh mi and tofu banh mi plus some spring rolls. This place has the veggies in a separate small bag for you to assemble on your own for the banh mi. It also had a sauce which I didn't try because it looked spicy. I should have. Tried it. It was pretty good but I still like my usual banh mi sandwiches from a well known chain. Service was fast and friendly.

Most Vietnamese restaurants get the stamp of approval for comfort food by default, but Pho Leo stands out in two ways. The first is the ginormous portion that they serve for the Pho Dac Biet. I've never left a bowl of pho unfinished, but I neared that mark during my visit. My favorite topping is a tie between the brisket for its flavor and the tendon for its chewiness. The second is how spacious the inside feels. Each table sits pretty far apart from each other, and there's a ton of natural light passing through the windows. It's the perfect establishment for a large group. I visited on a Saturday afternoon with a total of 6 and the staff accommodated us immediately. Although I only opted for the pho this time, it surprised me how well-equipped this Vietnamese restaurant looks for grilled dishes. I trust the appearance enough to get the broken rice special next time, especially with how much the past reviews rave about it.

Fast service, clean restaurant, great food. Got a big bowl of shrimp pho for $17. Coming back soon to try their other dishes.

Errr, right out of the gate, the way they served the fruit tea pissed me off. First, there's no way for me to eat the jelly because they gave me a regular size straw. The fruit jelly isn't just decoration; if you're offering fruit tea with jelly in it and give me a straw, you have to have the thicker straws with the diagonal cut at the bottom. Giving me a straw where the jelly doesn't fit through it is insulting. Not only can I not get the jelly itself, but the jelly will then get stuck on the bottom of the straw, interrupting me as I'm trying to drink the tea. Second, they gave me a glass, but the glass holds way less than the bottle. Same problem again, the jelly sinks to the bottom of the bottle, so when I pour into the glass, none of the jelly makes it into the first glass. Aside from that, the fruit tea was actually a pretty good consistency and flavor. But did they just buy this? If they made this, why have this kind of setup? It's like they reinvented the wheel to turn it into a square. In my not humble, entitled opinion, no self respecting boba enjoyer should require a glass. They should be content with the large to-go cup. Anyways.....the pho is pretty good. Not the best broth I've had in the last month, but it's fine I guess. The rib is also meaty and tender. All the other meat was good as well. If I have to nitpick something else, I do see a lemon instead of a lime again. Not a huge deal, as I also think lemon is valid. But every time a joint does it, I assume they're trying to cut costs. Also, imo, the lemon works better the stronger the umami of the broth is. On the other hand, I think the portion of bean sprouts and basil is generous enough. Finally, I didn't see a house chili or hot sauce, only sriracha.

Pho Leo & Grill has quickly become one of my favorite pho spots. The pho is packed with flavor, the broth tastes like it's been simmered for hours, and the noodles always have the perfect texture. The portions are generous, and everything tastes fresh. I've also tried several of their other dishes, and they've all been just as delicious. It's clear they take pride in the quality of their food. What really makes this place stand out is the staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive, making you feel appreciated from the moment you walk in. Before we ordered, he even let us know ahead of time that the food might come out late because they are training a new person. That's good servcie to let your guest know ahead of time. BUT THE FOOD STILL CAME OUT LIGHTNING FAST! Great food, excellent service, and a comfortable atmosphere. I highly recommend Pho Leo & Grill if you're looking for authentic, great tasting Vietnamese food!

How did I not know about this restaurant before!!! The place is spacious, nice, and clean. The staff are super friendly. Food is super delicious. They are also very kids friendly, providing us with scissors, and baby bowl as well. I will definitely come back. My baby approves of this restaurant :-)

I came back for their rice dish. By the look at this plate it looks underwhelming but I was full at the end. The pork was freshly grilled and well marinated. The tofu skin was very crispy and delicious. The meatloaf was good and I wanted more at the end. I wish I had more fish sauce but that's okay. Their pickled cauliflower amazed me. Worth the trip.

Stopped by for lunch, I got the chicken lunch special and a Thai tea. Everything tasted amazing, very fresh and flavorful and the price wasn't bad. It was a good portion of food, I didn't leave hungry. The service was fast and attentive. Overall I am happy with the food here and I will definitely come back.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice.
